City girl Alana Brendt accepts a one-year contract as an event coordinator in remote Yakima, Washington, to reboot her career. So what if she padded her résumé a little…doesn’t everyone? Then she discovers she has to lead trail rides and whitewater adventures, not just coordinate them. Add a litter of puppies underneath her rickety farmhouse’s porch, and Alana is desperate enough to accept help from the local vet…the gorgeous, sexy, outdoorsy vet who is absolutely not Alana’s type. At all.
Veterinarian Tegan Evans avoids the tourist side of Yakima, venturing there only when an animal needs her. Tourists only break your heart. Still, she can’t resist helping Alana, who, despite being in over her head with rambunctious puppies and a job she is barely qualified to perform, seems determined to make a success of things.
Alana and Tegan both know they don’t belong together. Only problem is, they’re falling in love.
Karis Walsh is a native of the Pacific Northwest and an adopted citizen of Texas. When she isn’t wrapped up in a book—either reading or writing one—she spends her time with her animals, playing music on her viola or violin, or hiking among the prickly pears.
This was an enjoyable piece of fluff. I’ve been a Walsh fan for a while. Her writing really works for me. Even though her books are more low-key, not a lot of excitement or drama, they are comfortable stories which is a nice change of pace. Walsh is also really good about using the setting and her character’s jobs very purposefully which really adds to the reading experience. Her choice of places and jobs are almost never exciting, but it doesn’t matter as she sucks you into the setting and the character’s lives and you can’t stop reading. I don’t know any other author who constantly does that like Walsh does so I have to give her some major credit.
There have been a ton of reviews for this book already so I’m going to keep mine on the shorter side and I’m skipping the summery. I really don’t have much to complain about except I wish the book was a tad longer. I was enjoying this beach read so much that I wanted more. There is nothing new or groundbreaking here, but there is a ton of cuteness with puppies and a good romance. And a little surprise but I actually laughed out loud a few times. I found the dialogue between the two mains to be well done and funny in parts. I have read a lot of books by Walsh and I don’t remember funny dialogue before but I will happily take it.
This is my second good book in a row so I hope that is a sign of more to come. If you are looking for a good summer beachy read this book is for you. If you are new to Walsh this is a good book to try to see if you enjoy her writing.
This is one of the cutest books I’ve read in a long time, and not just because there are animals (but also because, you know, puppies).
After being betrayed by her boss, which, according to her, is worse than being betrayed by a girlfriend, Alana ends up in Yakima, Washington, far from the deluxe hotels she’s always aimed to work for. Refusing to be bitter about the situation, she does her best to do right by her new boss, a sweet guy who’s way in over his head with his new dude ranch. Tegan is the town vet and understands right from the start that Alana is out of her element. At first wary of her, she soon realizes that Alana could very well be the one who will break her heart.
I liked Alana from the start. She’s smart, kind, sweet, open-minded. Tegan is also really nice and of course they are meant for each other. The romance is really sweet and as I’ve written before, I don’t mind the instalove. I’ve been there, I know it happens.
Another thing I like so much about this book is the way Karis Walsh describes the surroundings, the trails, the beauty of nature. It reminds me a little of Gerri Hill’s novels, another author who’s so good at sharing how much she loves nature. This book also reminded me in particular of one of my all-time favorite Hill novels, No Strings, as the characters in both enter a relationship knowing it has an expiration date and trying (and failing) not to mind. The impermanence makes for great angstsy moments.
This might not be as obvious a 5-stars book as others I’ve reviewed recently, but I can’t give any less to a novel that makes me laugh out loud in joy and brings tears to my eyes the way this one did. So sue me, I don’t care.
I received an ARC from the publisher in exchange for an honest review.
This book got me with the Cover :) so obviously theres a lot of puppies, horses and some other cute animals! This was a very smooth read, very fluffy if i may say. What i loved most about it is the banter between the 2 MCs. i have to say Karis Walsh did a brilliant job with the dialogue between them, and it started from the first time they even met. Alana & Tegan are such a cute couple that i could go horseback riding with them any given day :)
So my rating for this book is 3.5 but i am rounding it up to 4 because i really liked both MCs and felt their connection. The only thing i would've liked to see is a climax to the story itself. i think it was too smooth for my taste! i recommend this book however, read this book it if you are on the beach or you don't want drama and want to be entertained on a very lazy and sunny Sunday. Don't read it if you are looking for a deep, emotional read, park it until you want "fluffy" :)
Alana 'fudges' her resume to get hired on as an activity planner for a yet-to-be-opened hotel in Yakima. Now she is expected to hop on a horse and do trail rides with guests. Only problem is that she has never been on a horse before.
Tegan is the local Yakima vet. She goes to the hotel to administer some shots to the horses and can sense something is off with Alana.
The writing had just the right amount of description to set the scenes.. I felt as if I was on the ranch with them.
The relationship between Alana and Tegan was sweet and grew naturally. The writer gave them valuable time and experiences together that made their connection believable.
The end seemed a little bit rushed to me. But it was sweet nonetheless.
I recommend this to those who want to read about romance, ranches, hospitality, horses, and puppies.
I received an ARC from the publisher for an honest review.
This is another enjoyable read by Walsh even though the tropes are fairly common. Alana takes a job as an activities manager at a ranch having been fired from her city hotel job. She doesn’t really have any choice so she intends to make the best of it until she has restored her reputation. What she doesn’t count on is having to actually take part in the activities she organises like trail rides on horseback, kayaking and other very outdoorsy requirements. When Tegan, the local vet, comes to the ranch to do check-ups on the horses she realises immediately that Alana has no experience whatsoever. She has to figure out whether to tell the affable ranch owner or not.
I thought the title was a funny and clever reference and much more enticing, for me anyhow. The reason Alana lost her job is also really humorous and would have made a fantastic prologue to lead in with a bang. Even though the story line is not very unusual, the connection between the main characters made it worthwhile. I love it when characters talk about their pasts and the stuff they’ve had to deal with openly so that it’s not all shrouded in angst and mystery. The banter between Alana and Tegan was open and quick-witted.
Tegan and Alana are likeable characters and the secondary characters are entertaining too. ‘Sit. Stay. Love.’ is gentle, light and fun. Definitely a lazy Sunday read.
Book received from Netgalley and Bold Strokes Books for an honest review.
Sit,Stay, Love is a sweet, feel good romance, a perfect beach read. This is also the kind of book you want to read after a rough week at work. Alana is not a con artist, merely a woman desperate to regain a foothold in the hospitality industry. I admired her plucky efforts to fit in with the Yakima locals, to learn how to ride horses and her reluctance to take on the care of many puppies. I loved her self-confidence around Tegan and Chip. She knows what she wants and is not afraid to give advice when asked or take charge when needed. Tegan is also a caring, compassionate and confident woman who is willing to overlook Alana’s temporary status to forge a relationship.
Sure there are bumps along the way but there are also lots of laughs and some gentle love scenes. This might be my favourite book by Karis Walsh. Sometimes you need a nice light romance to brighten your day. This brightened a challenging month for this reader.
Well done.
ARC received with thanks from publisher via NetGalley for review.
As an okay fan of fluffy romance, I really did go into this book with the lowest of low expectations and was just looking to be entertained. I can’t really pinpoint exactly where things started to go downhill but the gist of it is I was bored for the first half and extremely frustrated in the second half. The author’s writing was appealing, the banter was occasionally witty and fun, and the side characters were great, but these positives were completely overshadowed by the unconvincing romantic connection between the main characters, and how quickly the leads fell in attraction/think about a future together - about 9.58 seconds after a couple of meetings.
The activities one can take part in Yakima, the horses, the puppies, and the positive points above were the shining 2 stars in this story. As a self appointed handygal in my family home, I was there yesterday assembling 5 standing fans "helped" by the 4 demon like lil tigers aka my nephew's 5 months old kittens so the puppies scenes in this were relatable and puts a smile to my face all the time.
This book received good/great reviews/ratings, don't listen to this woman who still spends a shitload of money on bad erotica because curiosity has yet to kill her brain cells.
The horses, the ranch, the puppies that weren't rats everything was just okay. I didn't connect to this book at all except the occasional laugh and didn't feel any chemistry between the MCs. Took them seconds to be captivated by each other.
I've decided that Karis Walsh is a sure thing when I want good romance read. Add rescue dog and a litter of puppies and you've got me hooked.
This is a fish out of water kind of story and a good bit of the low key humour is around Alana's adapting to the added responsibility of leading the outdoor activities including leading trail rides, whitewater rafting and fishing rather than just planning events for the future ranch guests. Luckily, the local vet, Tegan, is on hand to help. Originally coming to the small Washington town to rebuild her tarnished reputation and return to the big city hotel jobs she is used to, Alana slowly begins to build the connections and attachments she didn't know that she has been missing. Alana and Tegan are sweet, easy to relate to and you can't help but root for them. Although there's the dark cloud of Alana's plan to only stay for a short time in her new job, Walsh doesn't overplay the angst card as both characters openly acknowledge it. The romance happens over a short period of time, but Alana and Tegan spend much of that time together and there's a nice rapport between the two that starts with attraction, moves to friendship and then to romance.
This is a pretty quick read - and left me with a smile on my face. The banter and antics were not as laugh out loud as Love on Lavender Lane, but I quite enjoyed this one.
4 Stars for this pleasant romance by Karis Walsh. First off – how can anybody resist that cover? Walsh has become a favorite author and she doesn’t disappoint in this book. This is one of her fluffier romances, with minimal angst. Which was fine by me.
Once again, she blends a romance with animals. She has horses in her Tacoma Mounted Patrol series and dogs in You Make Me Tremble and Blindsided and now in Sit. Stay. Love., there are horses and puppies.
Alana Brendt literally grew up in the hotel business, living in the hotels her parents managed. She doesn’t want to be a hotel manager like her parents, but she enjoys and excels at event planning. Unfortunately, her boss at a large hotel, laid all the blame on Alana for an unfortunate mix-up which leaves Alana searching for a new job. She accepts a one-year contract as an Activity Coordinator at a soon to be opened lodge/ranch in Yakima, Washington. She assumed she would just be planning events from her desk but when she arrives, she learns that the job also entails leading trail rides, care of the horses plus accompanying guests on rafting trips. Alana explains to Tegan “I didn’t lie, I fudged.” about her qualifications on her application.
Alana meets the local vet Tegan Evans on her first day. Tegan arrives to give the horses vaccinations and was expecting help from Alana. She quickly surmises that Alana has zero experience with horses but agrees to teach Alana as much as she can about riding and care before the first guests arrive in a month. They become friends then more than friends but with the specter that Alana would be leaving at the end of her contract.
Alana is very likable (as is Tegan) and she has an amazing work ethic, in spite of her initial deceit. She helps ranch owner, Chip manage the grand opening, taking care of details, contractors and the like, on top of her regular duties. But at the end of her contract - will she stay or return to the city to work in large hotels?
Did I mention cute puppies??
*An ARC was sent to me by the publisher Bold Strokes Books through Netgalley for my honest review.*
Alana moves to Yakima, Washington for a position as activities director for a brand new dude ranch. In a desperate move, she lied on her application and doesn’t really have extensive experience in riding horses or leading rafting trips. What to do, because the owner, who is officially the sweetest guy ever, welcomes her and her expertise with open arms to the ranch like a long lost family member. But Alana’s always been good at thinking on her feet so she figures with a few YouTube videos and some hands on tutoring from the hot, local veterinarian, she’ll be fine. And after all, she’s just sticking around until a better offer from an elite hotel comes her way. The only fly is that darn wonderful vet, Tegan, who makes staying in this town a real possibility.
It’s a sweet book and you root for everybody to get what they want but the hardest part is always deciding what you want. My favorite passage (Alana speaking): “People always seem to be looking for something epic, don’t they?” she asked. “Something huge that will change their lives and make everything better. But maybe even the smallest shift in perspective can make all the difference.”
There was no doubt in my mind that I was going to read Sit, Stay, Love by Karis Walsh. The moment I saw that gorgeous furry face with the sad eyes, floppy ears, button nose, and cute little red eyebrows on the cover, I was hooked. Then I saw the author’s name, and I was even more hooked. I didn’t even read the blurb that went with the cover. This could have been a book of Ms. Walsh’s grocery lists for the past year, and I would have gotten it. I can’t help it. I’m a sucker for a cute furry face.
Thankfully, this is way better than a compendium of grocery lists. It’s actually a lovely, feel-good romance that will leave you smiling long after you close the cover. The main characters, Alana and Tegan, are likeable and well-developed, as are the secondary characters around them. The setting is beautiful and perfect for the story. And the animals…oh those adorable animals. We have horses, a cat named Charley, and lots of puppies with a poor, long suffering but attentive mama dog. The puppies and their mama play a major role in the tail…oops…tale since they help to bring Tegan and Alana together.
This is a sweet romance about two lovely people growing together and falling in love as they help the people and animals around them. There is very little angst, but a lot of friendship and love. If you are feeling down or having a bad day, this is a good story to read. If you are having a good day, this novel will make you feel even better. No matter what kind of day you are having, you should read this book…just buy the book. Trust me.
I received an ARC from NetGalley and Bold Strokes Books for an honest review.
That’s in exchange of an honest review that I received (via NetGalley) an ARC of « Sit. Stay. Love » from BSB (Thank you for that) … So, here it is !!
My rating : 3.5⭐️
The story, sets in remote Yakima, Washington focuses on city girl Alana Brendt who accepts a one-year contract as an event coordinator to reboot her career after being fired from her former job place and local veterinarian Tegan Evans who avoids the tourist side of Yakima, venturing there only when an animal needs her. Alana has always put her career first and, to get the job, she wasn’t ashamed to fudge her experience in her cover letter when she sent her resume. When she arrives to her new home what she thought being rats runing under her front porch is, as a matter of fact, a momma dog and her litter of 6 puppies … Despite their 1st meeting which didn’t go that well (they met right after Alana’s arrival on site when Tegan came to the ranch to administer some shots & dewormer to the horses and sensed something was off with Alana), since it’s the logical thing to do, Anala comes to Tegan with the litter asking for help. Tegan had her heart broken by passing through women but she can’t resist helping Alana, who, despite being in over her head with rambunctious puppies and a job she is barely qualified to perform, seems determined to make a success of things. Neither of them searched for a relationship but it seems their heart didn’t get the memo …
The Pros : ° the cover … Seriously : look at this cutie !!! 😍 ° the breathetaking settings … they were so well described that I had no problem to picture them in my mind’s eye. (I love that !!!). And now I want to visit the place since it actually exists … ° the numerous animals 🐶🐕🐩,🐴🐎, 🐈 … (since I grew up in a farm so I’m used to be surrounded by all kind of animals and I love when there are plenty of them in the books I read). It’s something I love with Karis Walsh’s work (based on what I’ve read …), animals have always a huge place in the story the tells us …
° the author’s smart-ass humor. ° some interesting secondary characters … mainly the furry ones.
The cons : ° The story was interesting enough & quite entertaining at first, but the writing style was a bit repetitive at times about a couple of topics, so it got a bit monotonous after a while. (for example : Alana’s « should I stay or should I go attitude » …) ° I’ve read more inovative stuff written by this author. I mean, don’t get me wrong, that’s a sweet story but it isn't really mind-blowing. ° the too short time frame on which all the novel happens (only one month, not a year) which makes the events happening too fast to be believable and put this novel in the « insta-love » category, one thing I’m not into… ° the lack of real character development (mains or secondaries …) & drama ° Alana’s miraculous gift to fix everyone’s problems in no time … it’s too good to be true even more based on the little real time that elapses since her arrival and her meeting with the locals. ° the too rushed end of the novel …
If I had to make a very short and quite different version of my review, it’d be something like this : Did I enjoy this book? => Yes and no … Did I find the characters believable? => Yes and no … Is this book now included in my « must be re-read »-list? => Not for now, maybe someday … Will I purchase the paperback? => Maybe someday … Would I read another book by this author? => Yes because I like Karis Walsh’s work, a lot : I’ve got several of her novels in paperback over here (some I’ve read & loved, some others to be read ASAP). Would I recommend this book => Yes … to everyone but as a priority to all those who like quick reads, the insta-love « romance » books, stories about horses and ranches, veterinaries stories, and, of course … puppies !!
Hey guys and gals, some of you will love the book, some won’t like it at all. There’s only one way to know for sure if you’re able to look after the litter… => Grab your own copy and make your own opinion …
I'm not even going to lie, what brought my attention to this book was definitely the cover. I'm drawn to literally anything involving dogs and I'm happy I am because I ended up loving this book.
This book basically involves everything I love, ladies loving ladies, horses and dogs. I always enjoy books that are set mostily outside and in the nature and especially books that involve animals.
This was my first read by Karis Walsh although I've had some of her older novels on my TBR for a while. After reading this though I'm definitely gonna get to those sooner.
I really enjoyed the writing, the characters were great and well thought out. I always enjoy getting to know the characters past and find that in a lot of novels they're very brief and not really well planned out but not in this one.
I don't think there was one single thing that I disliked about this book which is actually rather unusual for me! It was simply an amazing book and I'd definitely recommend it.
quick tip: listen to Already Home by Brandi Carlile & Ha*Ash after finishing this. The lyrics go so well with this story I'm kind of shook.
Sit. Stay. Love. by Karis Walsh was my first book from this author, and I do not regret picking this up. Not only is the cover adorable, but the story is just as fluffy and sweet! It’s the perfect book to read by the pool or on the beach.
City lover Alana has no choice but to move to small country town Yakima in Washington after getting fired from her previous job for a “mistake” she wasn’t entirely responsible for. The hotel industry being what it is, Alana’s reputation is shot, and nobody wants to hire her. Determined to do what it takes to rebuild her name, she fudges her resume just enough to get hired as the activity coordinator at a soon-to-be-opened ranch. Upon arriving in Yakima though, Alana realizes just how out of her depth she is when she learns she will not only have to plan activities but also lead them. She hates the outdoors and knows nothing about horses or fishing, but she’s willing to learn if it means she can go back to her regular life. But is her old life really worth it if it means leaving behind Tegan, the beautiful veterinarian and the litter of puppies?
I loved this book. It reads like a rom-com and if this was ever turned into a movie, it would be hilarious. I mean, the book was funny enough, but the visual of Alana trying to get on her horse without the helping block and then trying to open the gate… LOL!
The romance between Alana and Tegan develops pretty quickly, but not unnaturally. It’s sweet with very little angst. Even though the ending is predictable, I didn’t find the story to be cheesy or overly cliché-ed. I really appreciated the maturity and honesty between the two MCs. From the start, Tegan was aware that Alana had every intention of leaving Yakima as soon as an opportunity presented itself. There was no bitterness or resentment toward each other at any point in the story, and that was honestly really refreshing for a story with this trope.
The writing is good. The prose and dialogue are fluent, and Walsh descriptions of the ranch and the trails are detailed enough for the reader to be immersed in the story, but not to the point where it’s endless and distracting from the characters and what they’re doing.
I particularly liked Fitz, the horse, just because I have a cat named Fitz and I’m biased to the name. It made me smile every time he was mentioned 💕
If you’re in the mood for a sweet romance with a bit of humour and a handful of puppies, I definitely recommend you give this one a chance! It was everything I needed when I picked it up.
Thank you to Bold Strokes Books for providing me with a free copy of this title via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
A solid and perfectly nice contemporary lesfic. It was on Kindle Unlimited.
Good characters and storyline that I would recommend for a casual, feel good read.
It follows the formula and does what it says on the box that is lesfic, I did just wish for that bit more emotional depth. But it's a fairly quick read, that hits all the right notes, so I would absolutely recommend it.
If there was ever a book that should not be afraid to be judged by its cover then this is it. The cover is just puppy cute and so is the book.
Karis Walsh does a wonderful job by creating a stunning surrounding. Her description of nature is very vibrant. The main characters are very likable. The animals make for great supporting characters. The two main characters had great chemistry and the dialogues were awesome. I could have read more of it for sure.
Now for the things that I felt fell short is the span of time in this book. Meaning that the plot played out within one month which placed this love story firmly in the insta-love category. Which is fine but it does make every character development a bit unbelievable. I don't think it would have hurt the story and it's overall believability to give it a bit more time to evolve. Which would in turn also have helped in terms of having less repetition. e.g. Alana's "should I stay or go" thought process. Plus the ending didn't feel as round because it felt a little rushed.
I recommend this book to anyone who doesn't want to read too much drama for a change. This would be a great hammock read for a lazy weekend.
This is my 9th book by Walsh. For me, Walsh is consistently a good read, and I always enjoy her books. I never love them but they are enjoyable. I usually save her books for a weekend read, and this one was no different. Her books are sweet and cute with usually good settings and likable characters. Walsh's books are not too deep, it's all romance and puppies but not that deep intimacy you find in other with some other authors. If you love Walsh you will love this book. If you want an easy sweet romance for a weekend read, this is your book.
ARC received via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
I’ve been pretty burnt out on this month’s books, so this was a breath of fresh air. I’m a fan of Walsh’s books and this is (thankfully) no exception.
This features MC Alana, who has moved to a small town in Washington to get a fresh start after somewhat of a disaster in her last job, and she’s maybe, sorta, kinda fudged her qualifications, and discovers that this will be a problem, given that her new job requires her to actually be able to do the things she claims she can do. Tegan is the local vet, who through a series of circumstances ends up helping to bail Alana out of the situation she finds herself in.
Both characters are interesting in their own right, and even more interesting when they’re together. By virtue of the set up, they spend a lot of time together, so even though the book doesn’t cover a huge amount of time, I still bought into their relationship. I also enjoyed the secondary characters, especially Chip and Dez and their relationships with the respective mains. Chip especially surprised me towards the end, and I was glad he wasn’t as clueless as he sometimes seemed. Plus, there’s also dogs, well, one dog and six puppies, and you can’t go wrong with that many dogs!
This is a nice sweet romance, that’s light on the melodrama (there is some but it honestly felt plausible rather than the usual contrived crap we get served at the 75/80% mark). I’m glad I saved this til the end of this month’s pile, I needed the pick-me-up. 4 stars.
I felt like I was led up to a point and in the end that point was disregarded in the process. A lot of things could have been used more specifically, that could have benefitted more than the preparation to something, that wouldn't actually even happen in the book. Ending felt rushed and brushed off as happily ever after, even though no time has gone that could even point to that.
I loved Sit. Stay. Love. How can you go wrong? Strong female veterinarian, city slicker on a horse ranch, romance and horses. All the makings of a great story. Loved it.
Alana Brendt was a rising star in the hospitality industry. Or, at least, she was until a very bad mix-up occurred involving two different events at her hotel. I do not recall the exact incident now, been a while since I read the book, but it was something on the level of accidentally sending a real high level politician or clergy (bishop, say?), to the wrong room – a room where a bachelorette party was occurring; and sending the stripper into a rather conservative gathering. Technically it was the boss’s fault, but she, the boss, artfully dodged the blame and slapped it onto Alana. So Alana’s basically blackballed from the industry. Which is probably why she ended up the situation she ended up in, but let’s not get ahead of ourselves.
The book doesn’t actually upon with the above incident, no, it opens with Alana arriving at her new job location. At a ranch type place. Or and adventure hotel. Or whatever you call those type of places. She’s there to take the job of coordinator. Or . . . whatever that job is called. Unfortunately for her, probably due to her not reading closely enough and using a padded resume, but the job actually consists of a lot more hands on involvement. The kind wherein she leads people on horseback rides, and white water rafting, and the like. She knows how to set those things up, she doesn’t know how to actually do those things.
Before I go any further, there’s this puppy on the cover. A cute little puppy. So, hmm, what have I written so far that’d correspond to a puppy, eh? Is Alana supposed to also be leading puppy chases or something like that? No, the puppy is both indirectly and directly connected to her work. Her job, you see, comes with a place to live. Hmm, while writing this up I’m having a strong realization that I probably did write a review for this at some point that is now missing. Because I recall writing about Alana hearing the sound of rats – hiring an exterminator, having said individual give her a box of ‘rats’, unkilled, and the rats being puppies.
Which leads to a remeeting with the other main character in this book, Tegan Evans – Veterinarian. They’ve already had a bad first meeting – the kind wherein Alana ‘just knows’ that her job might be in jeopardy because of Tegan Evans experiences and . . . ability to see Alana attempting to do stuff with animals. But even with that first bad meeting, Alana needs the puppies checked over, so she further jeopardizes her future by hurrying over to have the puppies examined. Oh, and momma doggie.
I’m not a dog person, but the puppies and momma doggie were cute, interesting, fun to read. I also, apparently, liked the relationship and romance between the two leads, though it’s been too long to dive into too many details. You know, beyond the part where the two have a romance. Heh.
Rating: hmm. I rated it 5 stars but didn’t put the book on a rating shelf. So something near 5 stars.
3.5 ⭐️ I think I got suckered in by the cover of the adorable puppy and hoped for a bit more depth or drama or character. It’s a sweet story of a townie thrown into outdoorsy life and love with the local vet. There’s puppies. And a few minor characters that are fun but are not really having a life of their own. It’s - to me - the literary equivalent of comfort food. It’s lovely and nice and makes you feel happy, but it’s hardly adventurous or eye-opening or outrageously fun. There are very detailed descriptions of everything apart from the romance and the relationship is more tell than show. Where the book shone for me was the description of Yakima, Washington. It felt like being out on the trails, experiencing small town and rural life, and I could almost hear the cry of the hawk. Sounds like a great place to visit.
I received an ARC copy of this book from the Publisher via Netgalley and voluntarily leaving my review.
Enjoyable Read.
Alana takes a job that she really not qualify for because she got fire from her job and it's funny how she lost the job to begin with.
Tegan is the town vet who goes to the ranch to check on the horses realize that Alana is out of her element.
As Alana tries to do right by her new boss Chip who seems to be way over his head about running a ranch you could tell he loves his animals.
I like the romance between Alana and Tegan as they help each other out the dialogue between them was great I like that it wasn't a lot of angst that it was cute romance and the puppies were adorable.
3 stars. I enjoyed this book but it had some negatives. This book was about Alana, a city girl who gets fired from her event coordinator job in Philly. She takes a job in Yakima, Washington. She lies on her resume to get this job, including lying about how she can ride horses and that she can fish. She learns her new job at Chip's farmhouse she has to learn trail rides and white water rafting adventures. She is desperate to keep this job and takes lessons in horse riding from the local vet, Tegan Evans. Tegan takes care of the horses at the farmhouse and helps Alana when she finds a litter of puppies under the house she is staying in. Alana and Tegan get close quick but Tegan does not want to get her heart broken.
This book was okay, but they knew each other a month and their relationship evolved so quickly. They start to think about dating and boom, it happened. I liked the characters in this book and even the drama made sense so it was a decent novel. I just didn't like how quickly everything evolved. Tegan and Alana have great chemistry that evolves throughout the novel. The only thing I did not like is that some of the book seemed the be not that descriptive. I felt like there sometimes needed to be more added to the novel. It was a very quick read. I would maybe recommend this novel. It was not my favorite book, but it was not the worst.
I definitely enjoyed this sweet, funny romance. I absolutely loved the author's last book and thought I'd like this one at least as much but, alas, not quite. While there was good chemistry and I liked all of the characters - even the secondary ones - it was a bit too predictable with the job situation and I felt like I was just waiting for it to happen because it seemed so obvious.
I'm glad there was no "is she or isn't she" or community issues with the f/f aspect of the story, and the angst was pretty low-level. Loved that the couple were upfront in their communication and expectations! With all of that out of the way, I could enjoy their relationship and love the doggies.
I'll be waiting for the next book by Ms. Walsh.
Thanks to Netgalley and BSB for the opportunity to read and review this one!
