I has absolutely no idea what to expect from this book, all I know is that it sounded just interesting enough to read. And I loved it. Who doesn’t love a comedic love story filled with ups and downs and a mostly ridiculous feud?! Every girl who hasn’t had a boyfriend is likely to relate to Morgan. It reminds me of something Lane says to Rory in Gilmore Girls Season 1 Episode 9: “Those who can, do. Those who can’t, teach.” (Regarding whether Rory & Dean are BF/GF or not)
Morgan knows she can’t actually promise love, but who’s to say it won’t work out, for a while at least. But stories like this always help me think about my relationship and what my partner and I could be doing better or differently, and I love that. That beginning spark is always so special, don’t lose that. Ok, I’m getting tired and my brain is beginning to stop working, so I’ll stop this now before more word vomit spills out.
Btw definitely an addition to the “recommend” list.

I received a complimentary copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review.

If there's one thing Morgan Jones learns after her disastrous attempt at playing matchmaker for her fellow university students, it's that you can't predict love. This charming collection of four novellas tells the story of 21-year-old Morgan as she starts a matchmaking business and tries to match up her friends and clients even though she's never had a serious relationship herself. After a mix-up with the matchmaking list sends her clients on unexpected dates with unexpected matches, Morgan struggles to find a way that she can impart her knowledge of love and matchmaking without messing up her friends' love lives.

Disastrous Dates has all the feels of popular romance-gone-awry stories from the contemporary To All The Boys I've Loved Before by Jenny Han to the classic A Midsummer Night's Dream by William Shakespeare. There are several adorable couples in the book, but my favourite is Dominick and Harmony from the second novella. They go on one of Morgan’s mixed-up dates and try to make the best of it, but their contrasting personalities get in the way: Dominick is sweet and shy, while Harmony is outgoing and superficial. It’s cute to see their relationship develop in the second novella and carry on through the third and fourth novellas.

Disastrous Dates is a fun, quirky read that highlights why you can’t judge a person by their first date.

"Sick of swiping?

Let the Date Maker help you find your soul mate!"

Sign me up!

Morgan Jones is a college student who wants to make money doing something she loves. Haven't we all been there? As a college student my self I relate entirely to doing anything for a little extra cash; okay, not anything.

I loved the detail Kayla put into the story. Details from how Morgan relaxes after a long day to how she finds the perfect couple. Describing the sprinkler dance move, loved it. The way Morgan interacted with her roommate was absolutely realistic. Sometimes you love them, but many times you hate them especially when you live with your best friend.

This series was fun and fast to read. I devoured each book in one sitting. If you love fun and fluffy romances check this one out.

I read these as individual installments. You can see my review for each book.

This collection of novellas is so cute! Morgan is good at setting friends and classmates up on dates, and low on cash so the perfect opportunity arises to make some money doing what she is great at! She takes the swiping and unsettling first dates out of the mix!
But after a scathing article comes out against her dating service, she thinks her business is sunk! She gets all the matches out but not all of the matches turn out quite like she planned. Each novella chronicles one of these disasters. It proves that not all mistakes are worth it in love, but some certainly are!

Disastrous Dates: The Complete Collection
The Date Maker

By: Kayla Tirrell
Narrated by: Sabrina Schloss

This is a terrific collection, a series of four novellas, the stories are told in chronological order, starting with “The Date Maker”. These books are intended to be read as a serial. The storylines unique, interesting and well written. e campus. The characters, college students, are well developed, realistic and likable. The lead, Morgan Jones, is the “Date Maker”, she has a knack for matchmaking and starts up a dating service on campus. Her intentions were to help people find love and to make a profitable business. Then comes Declan Adams, he threw her off of her game and she miss matched some dates. The 2nd book “Meet Your Match” tells us of Dominick and Harmony’s disastrous first date. They are opposites and wrongfully matched, she was expecting Pax, a jock not Dominick the nerd. The 3rd book “The Grudge Match is Lacey and Trevor’s date, Lacey is aware of the miss-matched dates but Morgan, her best friend and roommate convinces her to go regardless. Is it another disastrous date in the making, well no spoilers here, so be sure to read these cute, fun stories. “The Maker’s Match” is concludes “The Date Maker to Disastrous Date serial. I loved these stories, there was a lot of heart in them. Thank you Kayla Tirrell!!

I liked this one—cute storyline with interesting characters and a few sweet romances. I really liked the premise of this collection of stories.

Morgan is an ambitious college student with a knack for setting people up, and decides to make a business out of it. Even though Morgan makes mistakes, I believe this adds to the “realness” and believability of her character. Sometimes she made mistakes on accident and sometimes she knew she was wrong, and that’s what makes her character interesting. I get tired of reading about perfect heroines and knights with fake flaws like “she cares too much.” Give me some real characters who have real reactions to the situations in which they find themselves—like in this book.

Also, I like the ensemble cast and how you get to see the situation from multiple points of view without it becoming boring. Even though this was a positive, I kinda wanted more of Morgan and Declan’s story. As much as I enjoyed seeing the world through the other characters, I’d miss the two of them when they were gone. Good read!

I received this audiobook in exchange for an honest review!

In this story Morgan creates a match making service called the date maker. At first people were happy with her dating service until she got a bad review from an un happy customer named declan who Morgan couldn't help but feel attraction to. To make matters worse, she accidently mixed up all her matches and once she realized it she hoped it didnt end up a huge disaster. This story goes back and forth between different character povs and while they go on the dates they weren't suppose to go on. I really enjoyed this book and once I started it, I couldn't stop listening and finished it all in two sittings! it was an adorable, cute and fun story about how things aren't always meant to go as planned and the person you least expect just might be your real perfect match!I enjoyed following the experiences the characters had with their disasterous dates.I cant wait to read and listen to more from this author!

This was a sweet and funny romantic series! Morgan is a college student who loves setting people up and figures she can make some money off of it along the way since her part time job isn’t cutting it. She creates The Date Maker in hopes of helping people who signed up to find their perfect matches and fall in love. Each book in this series is intertwined and consists of either disastrous dates and/ or matches you never would have expected. loved the characters, how realistic they were, and that they’re capable of change and growth in the situations they went through. I really enjoyed this series and flew right through it!
Sabrina did an amazing job with this narration! She manages to bring every character, emotion, and moment to life with her performance. I was hooked from the start and I loved the voice variations and depth that she gave each character.

It's my first time listening to Sabrina Schloss and I have to say I enjoyed the way she presented the book. I got so involved in the story that I almost forgot the narration, which I know is an odd thing to say but I don't know how else to explain it!

I really enjoyed this book, it's like watching a disaster movie, you know it's gonna happen but you have to watch anyway. It made me chuckle so many times with the things that happened. I would say it's a lovely light listen. The characters are great and I loved watching how what happened to them changed them and their attitudes. A really enjoyable listen.

I enjoyed this sweet YA romance series. The characters are all intertwined throughout all four books, so it makes it fun to see the different perspectives on all of their relationships as the series unfolds. A few parts were a little slow throughout the series, but overall it was an easy read and a relaxing kind of enjoyable to hear about college romance and the "perils" involved in some matched up dates.

I received an audiobook code for this series as a complete set, from the author, but all opinions expressed in this review are my own.

The Blurb is not entirely accurate about the longevity of Morgan’s knack for setting up people – She set a couple of friends up in high school – the distinction needs to be clarified here because she created this business to set people up based on some high school successes; bearing in mind that she knew the friends that she was setting up with each other. In this newly established business (based on former successes) she does not always know one or both of the parties that she’s setting up.

But fortune favors the brave and so there she goes! Her approach to this new endeavor is more whirling dervish than organized and indicative of any real skill – as is evidenced by her emotional responses to people she interviews – if she doesn’t like someone and considers them not up to par in the first minute of an interview, then she immediately decides not to help them without giving them the benefit of constructive feedback.

I read these books as individual parts of a whole – stepping stones if you will. When I read a series, even one that is part of a compilation book, I expect some development and growth and overall, I got none here.
While there are the same group of characters featuring in every book, Morgan’s roommate shows more growth than she does and that is largely due to the fact that she has to deal with an awful betrayal from her best friend. Morgan also has an irritating habit of blaming others for things that go wrong with her enterprise when in actual fact, it’s her own lack of integrity, organizational skills, consideration, forward thinking and maturity that causes most of her issues. These are things you would expect of a 21-year-old girl/woman who is working her way through college with a full load and a part time job.

That being said, Declan started off as a complete idiot and I was pleasantly surprised at his willingness to take ownership of his mistakes, and to rectify them and I was not at all surprised by Morgan’s inability to have a mature conversation with him about it.

It’s a light, airy book that has a few moments of real funny mixed with moments that are more simple/idiotic. There’s no lesson of an overarching principle or growth or discovery that would keep me going back to this book and it wasn’t as funny as I expected it to be; so I can’t go back for that either. So, I won’t be reading it again.

But this is just one person’s opinion in this time and place. If you are looking for an easy read to pass time that doesn’t require too much mental or emotional investment then this is a good option – because sometimes we need something undemanding to escape from the norm.

Disastrous Dates

When Declan’s bad flirting skills turn into a huge misunderstanding with the Date Maker Morgan Jones it turn into a battle between the two and disastrous dates for all of Morgan’s matchups. Will they be able to get past their horrible first meeting? And will Morgan be able to save her Matchmaking business?

The four books were really light and fun to read/listen to. I felt that I toggled between not really liking the side characters all that much, to ok I can deal with them. I really didn’t have a strong like for any of them until the final book. I felt like the two girls weren’t really the most supportive of friends and were quite shallow. Since the characters were all college age - and let’s face it we still aren’t the most mature the -I don’t feel like that took away from the story as much as it could have. The series is a clean read that is perfect for YA/New Adult readers.

The first book (The Date Maker) is an intro into Morgan and her matchmaking scheme. Books 2 (Meet Your Match) & 3 (The Grudge Match) are two set ups gone horribly wrong, and although they are two separate books they are happening during the same time frame. The final book (The Maker’s Match) is the conclusion of what happened between Declan and Morgan.

The audio performance by Sabrina Schloss was very well done, and I look forward to finding other narrations by her.

Not too bad.

3 1/2 stars for me. Morgan seems a bit ditzy for some reason. I don’t know if it’s because she is trying to get it together when things are out of place or the way she talks to her best friend. I liked her best friend more, Lacey in fact. She seems like a person you would enjoy her company. Whatever it may be, Morgan is all right person in the end. I didn’t might about the story line with all the other characters. Overall, it’s not half bad but a bit predictable. What kept me going is the sense of humor it got in this book! The audio narrator did such a great job!

This is a fun story about an alternative way of dating.
It is actually 4 parts of a series rolled into this one audiobook.
The characters are believable and typical to the teenage college setting.
Although this is probably aimed at a much younger audience, I still enjoyed it.
The narrator was well suited to the type of book.

I loved this book! It was the perfect bubbly, clean rom-com to take me out of myself and into Morgan's world! It kept me laughing at her antics and sympathizing with her too. While the situation may not have been, Morgan's actions and reactions were realistic in many ways to real life, which made the book funnier and more believable. All those times when you want to seem pulled together and that you look like you know what you're doing but you just look dorky and scatter brained - Tirrell had that covered. Those times when you try to think up elaborate schemes of why you're doing something (or did something) and wind up digging yourself a hole, when if you'd just told the simple truth the first time it wouldn't have sounded that stupid and would have all blown over in a heartbeat? - They're all here. With Morgan's friends and fellow students to round out the student body, this is a compilation of 4 novellas that actually reads like one novel. The transitions were seamless to me. I had a great time reading this book and would recommend to anyone needing a good romantic comedy!

I listened to the audiobook version of this book.

I liked that each set of dates had their own 'book's' but while listening, it honestly felt like one full length book. Everything just flowed so nicely, each book just more like a new chapter than anything. I thought the story in its entirety was absolutely adorable and so much fun. I could imagine some of the various dates and disasters throughout. I loved all the characters and the writing. I also love how the Morgan owned the mistakes and continued working through things. I also like the rivalry between Morgan and Declan.

Excellent narration, the narrator does a great job differentiating between all the couples and characters. They brought this story to life and made it a nonstop listen.

An enjoyable collection of four short stories woven in a series. These four stories are all interlinked and bounce back and forth, if not happen at the same time as one another in an alternative way of dating. These lighthearted fun stories have the couple going thru ups and down with twists and turns as they stumble through various forms of disastrous 1st sets of dates. The characters are interesting, realistic and capable of change and growth thru college age situations of dating setups.  It is well written thru multiple POVs. I voluntarily listened and reviewed this ARC that had great storytelling thru narration. I love the voice variations as each character is brought to life with depth and emotion given to each.

(3.5 stars) - fluffy entertainment

This is a lighthearted & fun YA enemies-to-lovers story. Morgan believes she's hit on a great way to supplement her limited college student income - matchmaking.

It's all downhill from there - which leads to some confusing & sometimes amusing situations.

There are a few things that didn't make sense - why did one of the guys sign up for the service when he had someone & why was that someone ok with him dating someone else? And Declan & Morgan's attraction didn't seem well enough supported to endure all that transpired between them.

However, it did succeed as an amusing diversion & I enjoyed reading it.

*Language: a few h*lls & d*mns

Combining matchmaking and college isn’t without it’s problems!

I listened to the audiobook so I’ll review the voice and performance as well.

Voice: clear pronunciation and intonation. She really brings the story to life.

Story: For some reason I did not like this as much as I would’ve liked. Maybe the dating service thing is just not for me, I don’t know. I might just have problems with the main character’s prejudice. But the fact is, some things didn’t add up for me. But luckily listening to this story wasn’t a hard task either so it’s a neutral 3 stars for me.
