An adrenaline pumping, nerve wracking, intense thiller that will leave you breathless. Frank took his son hunting and what was supposed to be a pleasant time of bonding turned into an absolute nightmare. Out in the middle of nowhere, on their own property, They stumble upon a group of trespassers trying to get rid of a secret so damning they're willing to kill anyone that sees it. Get ready for a relentless page turner as Frank dares to fend off the assailants, while racing to get his son help before he bleeds to death.Chris Miller tells a story that any father could relate to. Trespass has what it takes to be a thriller best seller.
Chris Miller is a native Texan who has been writing from an early age. He began publishing in 2017 with his first novel, A Murder of Saints, and since then he has published several novels—including the Amazon bestselling Splatter Western, Dust—and has also been inducted into many anthologies. When not writing, Chris enjoys playing guitar, watching movies, and reading. He is first and foremost a family man and is happily married to the love of his life (and best friend) Aliana. They have three beautiful children and live in Winnsboro, TX.
Not the longest story, but this one still packed a punch. The wilderness is a frightening environment. Much like the ocean, you never know what to expect from it, and it’s always a good choice to not take it for granted. Here, we have a group or hunters in the woods and our lead, Frank, brings his young boy, Cory, along. They stumble upon a terrible situation that pushes Frank to his absolute limits. Testing his patience, courage, and even the boundaries of his fatherhood, too. The entire story kept me on the edge of my seat and was absolutely riveting from start to finish. Great use of the setting and it had a near perfect pace, too. The ending was a little too abbreviated for my taste, but it was still a good conclusion. This is my first, but will definitely not my last, outing with Chris Miller.
This is approx 70 pages and the game of cat and mouse in the final third did have tension and some heart stopping moments, but overall I never got past how unappealing the author made Frank as a protagonist. It was only a few sentences of “banter” in the beginning but the author could have gotten the same point across without being both homophobic and insulting to women. YMMV.
Damn this was so fucking awesome. Chris Miller is a bad ass storyteller. This is I guess you would call it a dark gritty psychological survival thriller but holy shit Miller knows how to do it. His razor sharp writing had me in this one so deep I couldn't turn the pages fast enough. What a bad ass read highly recommend this.
The author's note in the beginning, where he pretty much dedicates this story to his kid, made this story much more intense and very real. Imagine you're hunting, and come across other hunters. Shady hunters. Doing something they probably shouldn't be doing. The weather is terrible. Rain is making it hard to see, but you do know that everyone is hunting with guns. Then BAM- all heck breaks loose. How far would you go to save yourself, or better yet, your own flesh and blood? I think true horror, for me at least, is horror that can happen in real life. This story can definitely happen in real life. I know it's short, but despite it's brevity, there's plenty of character put into these characters to the point that I was ALMOST emotional. Note the ALMOST (yeah, because maybe my heart and soul is made of a lump of coal). I highly recommend this one.
It was a shitty day as the author said at the beginning of the story. The first intention was hunting deers, but it turned in the nightmare. This story took a deep impact on me, I had felt like I am on the roller coaster waiting to fall down. Frank has survival instinct but love for his son keeps him in the game because bad guys will do everything to destroy him. He found something that should not be discovered and he did not mind his business, now he needs to pay. Funny nicknames The bearded man and The mustache man make story hilarious, black humor is strengthening the impression. Hats off to the author.
This is an intense read of basically one event that happens over an afternoon when a traditional hunting trip turns ugly. Any parent will be pulled into the heart-wrenching decisions that the main character, Frank goes through. I read it in one sitting as I was not going to leave the characters in the woods without finding out the ending.
This was a quick brutal thriller about some guys who find themselves in the wrong place at the wrong time while out on a hunting trip. Miller knows how to build the tension and drive it home with an emotional punch. I’ll be reading more from him!
Survival thriller that will have you thinking twice about hunting Well narrated and fast paced definitely check this one out I received a free review audiobook and voluntarily left this review
The story did have you holding your breath with anticipation at times. The story had some repetitive phrases throughout it. I would have 4 starred the book, but I did not like the disrespect shown to women and homosexuals. I understand that there are many "mancho" guys out there that act that ignorant, but I think the author could have used different methods to convey their discrimination.
Trespass is a short sharp stab of a thriller that makes the heart race. The action and tension in the book doesn’t let up from the first page to the last. This novella contains interesting characters but it’s greatest strength is the action and cat and mouse game. This story shows what it is like when the hunters become the hunted. I highly recommend this book.
This was a decent and quick book with a well-paced and intriguing plot. However, I would classify this as a suspense or thriller rather than a horror. Although the hunters became the hunted, I did not experience strong dread, shock, or revulsion. As a result, it simply seemed like a book with an exciting crime storyline. Overall, the book was satisfactory.
I listened to this book on my way to and from work each day. I had no idea what it was about and was kind of dreading it once it started. But I hung in there. I am a city girl through and through. I have never hunted or done anything like that before. That being said, I really liked this book!
The story is about a group of men that go out on a hunting trip utilizing a lease purchased by one of the men. The build up and anticipation of all characters is great! While on their lease, they run into some other men that are obviously hiding something. From there the story escalates and just does not stop. Chris Miller did a fantastic job using descriptors. For someone like me that has no idea about hunting or the outdoors, I felt like I could really follow what these men were doing and their actions taken. This was a quick read for me as the audio book only took a few hours to complete. Check this book out! The imagery Miller creates is worth the read for sure!
Short, but fast passed brutal read. Definitely not for the squeamish.
I'm usually not a fan of short stories or novellas; however, this was a breath of fresh air and a cure to the reading funk I was in. This read was brutal. Miller is definitely a creative and dark writer, mixing brutal imagery with beautiful wording in a voice and style very much his own. He definitely painted characters I hated and loved to hate in this story of a parent's worst nightmare come to life, and what a parent would be willing to do to save the life of their child. I can't wait to read more by Miller.
Was not disappointed with this read. Went quite quickly, not terribly long, however in a short span you are quickly involved in the lives of Frank and Cory. The visuals were incredibly vivid and the anxiety of finding out what will happen to these characters stays with you until the end. In particular as a parent this is a horrifying book. Would absolutely recommend to any horror or thriller lovers. 5/5
“Thing is, though, I just can’t let ya run off and tell the coppers about what ya seen out here…”
“Trespass” by Chris Miller gets 4 out of 5 stars.
This is an intense, fast-paced novella about being somewhere at the wrong time. Frank, his son and friends head out for their annual first day of deer hunting but things go awry when they stumble upon three guys in the woods. Hell breaks lose when they discover what those men are doing and they have to fight for their lives.
This book brings out the possibility that it could happen in real life which makes it scarier. The writing was easy to read and detailed. As always, I wish the book was longer but it all worked out in its few pages.

Dang this one packed a punch. I had to stop reading a couple times. I wasn’t sure if it was to savor what I was reading or to let the ‘holy moly’ subside a bit.
I absolutely loved the hunting trip meets Wrong Turn vibe to this book. It kept me engaged throughout.
Not something I would normally read. I bought this because he is a local author and wanted to read something quick to get a feel for his stories. Although I don’t care at all for the storyline, also feel like I’ve seen a movie, or three, with a similar storyline, it was well written and didn’t leave any questions lingering.
Fast paced adrenaline rush of a story. The terror Frank felt was palpable and the ending made me cry. You can't go wrong reading a book by Miller. Intense terror that pulls you into this story of the hunter becoming the hunted.
Although it was a short read, it was a nicely paced thriller. I don’t necessarily have anything bad to say about the book, it just wasn’t something I was overly blown away by. I did appreciate the ending coming full circle with the characters and not ending without knowing the full outcome.
