From the ex presenter of the cult TV show Dirty Sanchez, Matt Pritchard, comes the BBC's first ever (and long overdue) vegan cookery programme. In Dirty Vegan, Matt is set a challenge to create vegan food for certain groups of people with specific nutritional needs - a women's rugby team, OAPs, teenagers and emergency services (mountain rescue). He examines the science behind the ingredients, such as egg alternatives, and cooks 2-3 recipes per episode.
In this television tie-in, Matt shows you just how easy and cheap it can be to go vegan and how the right nutrition can help you perform better in all aspects of life. Discover more than 80 cracking recipes for proper healthy vegan food - none of this Michelin Star sh*t - such as the Full vegan pile up, Squash & shroom momos with yuzu dip, Crispy bang-bang tofu, peanut & chilli stir-fry, Creamy peppercorn & mushroom pie and Maple, orange & chocolate baklava.
Chapters include: 1. Morning Kickstarters 2. Quick Hits & Gobfuls 3. Rabbit Food 4. Belly Warmers 5. Proper Main Munch 6. The Main's Best Mate 7. Sweet Stuff
3.5 stars. Picked this up from my favourite Oxfam bookshop. Lots of easy, basic, low cost meals, tried several and have all worked well. Nice book for getting ideas for quick family meals. Nothing groundbreaking but good everyday food. An enjoyable book to look through to get inspiration for what to cook.
I am not a Vegan, but I see here why some people will be come one if this sort of grub available. I collect interesting cookbooks with outstanding recipes like The Scarlet Salad, Aubergine & Tahini Giant Couscous Salad, Piri Piri Tomato crispy Chickpeas, Crispy Bang Bang Tofu, Peanut & Chilli stir-fry, Jackfruit Red Pepper goulash, Four/Five/Six-Bean Chilli, Sun -Roasted Pineapple with Coconut cream, Victoria Orange sponge to Vegan cheesecake lots of great Recipes that are easy for people to make no over the top crazy expense prices for ingredients that no bugger can ever find even got big wallet. I hate cookbooks use ingredients that no normal person can buy. This has good print, dozens of photos with funny recipe titles. Mall Pritchard looks like lead singer of Heavy Metal band & has more tattoos than Ray Braduary's Illustrated Man. This book is from BBC Welsh series 1-4 which is available to download on iPlayer until 9/2/19. The series is short but Shame wasn't on BBC 2 but Think from how good both sales of the book & the quality of the show it go into longer 2nd series that be on BBC 2. The book has all extras like lot of TV books, but If can I tell you to get TV series as its new look on Vegan fresh & exciting biggest thing was in ep.2 when used chick pea water that you chuck out to whip up for stiff egg peeks & his chocolate cakes at the WI show..
„Dirty Vegan - Vegan satt.
Despite spending my career trying to protect the environment, I am yet to totally embrace the vegan diet and I'm willing to admit I doubt I ever will. But if anything was and is likely to convince me, it is this book. Not only does Pritchard avoid the usual condescending/preachy tone that many books and programmes end up having, he has also created and pulled together a great collection of recipes with ingredients that you will find in a majority of kitchens. Yes, there are one or two extra ingredients that need to be bought specifically but 99% you will be familiar with and/or already have in your kitchen if you cook at all. For me this is a massive selling point as I avoid any recipe book (vegan or otherwise) that expects me to stock the equivalent of a supermarket in my kitchen, so bravo Pritch. I'm yet to try the recipes but I have so many tagged for trying it would've been easier to mark those I don't want to try! And each recipe is written in the same asy carefree manner that Pritch has on his show and has the feel of your mate giving you a few tips on eating better while keeping the enjoyment of food as high as ever.
Loved the language used, felt at ease in following the well laid out recipes and methods. Also loved hearing more about the author and how they have come to write this book.
Best vegan cookbook I ever came across! Most vegan cookbooks use complicated ingredients and lots of meat substitutes, but most of recipes in Dirty vegan can be made using stuff you already have in your kitchen. The dishes are still beautifully inventive, super tasty and so far I (and my family) loved every recipe I've tried.
Some new and interesting recipes, some pretty tame and basic. As an intro to vegan cooking, I guess that's fine. As an established vegan was hoping for a bit more, but there are some recipes here I look forward to trying, and some new ideas. Good pictures, easy to follow.
I haven't cooked any recipe from this book yet, but there are more in here that I want to try, as in every other cookbook I ever owned. The ingredients sound amazing and tasty, but not too fancy, nevertheless often with a bit of an unusual twist. The pictures are great and even with having the same issues here, as I have with every cookbook, namely that not every meal is illustrated, there is actually a huge amount of pictures shown. If I have tried something out, I will probably increase my rating to five stars!
This book was provided to me by netgalley in exchange for an honest review.
Seit kurzem interessieren mich vegane Rezepte ungemein. Guten Appetit.
I'm not a vegan and frankly I only purchased this because I loved Dirty Sanchez so thought why not?
Firstly, Prichard doesn't bang on about being vegan like he's a Welsh Moby and it is about the food.
I'd eat most of the stuff in here but some of the more obscure ingredients may be a laugh to source round my neck of the woods which is why it's only a four star.
But if you want something different, give it a go.
I have made about 6 recipes from this book so far and each one has been a winner. I'm vegetarian but would like to cook more vegan food. My partner (who eats meat) equally enjoys making and eating these recipes! They are uncomplicated and the ingredients are easy to get in the supermarket. My favourite so far is probably the crispy bang bang tofu, it takes like take away but nicer!! Will probably end up buying the sequel.
I'm not big on cookbooks and I had not heard of Matt before reading this one. However, the premise of finding quick and 'dirty' vegan recipes seemed compelling. I didn't quite get that part right or I misinterpreted the title because many of the recipes require up to 10 or more ingredients. That's not my understanding of a quick meal.
I should mention that I DID find a few recipes that I adapted and have found the way into my diet so it wasn't terrible.
Tasty-looking food and it covers a wide range of meals, but apart from the snacks the meals are relatively complex compared to other cookbooks. Good for an experienced cook who wants to move into vegan food, less good for people trying to get into plant-based diets and needing some quick fixes.
This is a really good vegan cookbook filled with a great variety of recipes. The ingredients are easy to source and the instruction are easy to follow.
