Chronicles the life and career of the community organizer, Harvard Law School graduate, legislator, and civil rights lawyer who is known for his work on voting rights and employment discrimination cases, and was selected to give the keynote address at the 2004 Democratic convention.
"4.5 stars" I thought that Barack Obama: Working to Make a Difference was a very well-written biography of the man who will be our next president. Having read Barack Obama's books, Dreams From My Father and The Audacity of Hope, I can say that the information contained in this biography for kids seems accurate and complete, except for the mis-spelling of his oldest daughter's name, which is listed a “Maile” in two different places in the book and should read, “Malia”. The book also doesn't mention that President-elect Obama's youngest daughter, Natasha, usually goes by the nickname, “Sasha”, but that is a relatively minor thing. The book covers the time from Barack Obama's birth to his Senate win and hits all the most important points, though there is nothing of his time in the Senate or his campaign for the presidency. Overall though, in my opinion, this is a great book for young readers to learn more about the man who is soon to be president, and even though I didn't learn anything new, adults who are unfamiliar with his life story to date may find it useful as a quick primer. Barack Obama: Working to Make a Difference is part of the Gateway Biographies series, an extensive series of biographies of famous people written just for young readers.
This biography on Barak Obama provides glimpses into the life of our leader. This book gives descriptions of Obama’s emotional life growing up. It addresses how Barak dealt with the relationship he had with his father. The author presents the reader with the senator’s success and failures objectively. Throughout the book there are sidebars providing interesting insights that are not mentioned in the text. The book also includes photographs of Barack’s personal and public life experiences and relationships.
I read Barack Obama: Working to make a difference. This story gave us the life of Obama family and his school years This informational biography story also walks us through Obama life from beginning to being the president. I learn a lot of things that I didn't know about Obama. There were great pictures to go along with the story. This story is good for children age 4 to 8.
I enjoyed reading this biography of our present President. I liked how this book was printed even before Obama became president since I feel that this way we can learn more about him. I liked how the author mentioned both the successes and failures of our now President Obama.
I recommend this book to people that would like to know more information about he 44 president Born in Hawaii and brought up for a time in Indonesia, Barack Obama graduated from Columbia University with a degree in political science and a specialty in international relations. He worked as a community organizer in some of Chicago's toughest neighborhoods, helping church groups create job-training programs, before going. In Harvard Law School, where he graduated and served as the first African-American president of the Harvard Law Review. After law school, Obama organized one of the largest voter registration drives in Chicago history to help Bill Clinton's election, and worked as a civil rights lawyer on cutting edge voting rights and employment discrimination cases in federal and state courts. Obama is known as a man who lives by his convictions and so highly thought of that his colleges selected him to give the keynote address at the 2004 Democratic convention. What I also like about this book is that it shows parts were Obama had fails and successes.I also learned a lot of new things about this book I also enjoyed reading this book because I didn't know much facts about Obama and I learned new facts about him.
