Inside every human on this planet is a genetic time bomb that’s already started ticking. A gene planted inside of us seven million years ago by a being known as the Caretaker has mutated causing many of today’s common disorders, first in the brain and then in other less complex organs. Next it will spread to the reproductive system, leading to the eventual annihilation of mankind.
The only one who can save us is the Caretaker’s son.
From a race of near-immortal asexuals, the Caretaker’s son must adopt human form to fulfil his mission and save our race. Having studied humans from afar all of his life, the Caretaker’s son is excited at the prospect of his brief visit to Earth, but once in human form he is subjected to the full gamut of human emotions—something he is ill-equipped to cope with.
I guess that you would call this book more of a Sci-Fi romance and I was a little nervous to read this, mainly because Sci-Fi is not my go to favourite to read and I somehow find myself losing interest for that reason alone. That being said I was very very surprised in a good way as to how much I enjoyed this tale by this new to me author. We have Blake, a hotel receptionist who wills the clock to tick down quickly toward the end of his shift, when he meets a mysterious and quite frankly confusing individual who we shall call Ray. Their first interaction is certainly very unusual and the banter if I should call it that- certainly on Blake’s part is really very amusing. It turns out Ray is on a time sensitive mission that he is very focused on and will not be deterred. From here Kass Barrow takes us on an entertaining and witty ride that is both compelling and engaging. Her writing is very articulate & eloquent with a witty turn of phrase making for an pleasurable read. I also enjoyed very much the historical elements to the story, which only served to increase the overall atmosphere, a helpful tool I imagine with this trope in particular. I did wonder however if we would get the HEA that I absolutely crave with the books I read and I will not be giving anything away today! So if you are worried just as I was of trying something new then I urge you to at least give it a try ... you might just find a nice surprise, just as I did.
I was hesitant to read this as I usually don't read sci-fi books but curiosity won out. The start is great and you can't help but laugh. The story progresses with Ray and Blake forming a friendship of sorts. Ray has a time sensitive mission to complete but things get complicated. The story includes little of history facts which Ray tells to Blake. I feared the story wouldn't be a happy one towards the end but the author pulls a rabbit out of the hat for a beautiful HEA story.
Blake 26 yr old hotel receptionist bored until ending of his shift a handsome young man comes in. He swears hes being pranked by his friends. Ray is definitely one of the kind alien sets out to help man kind, who totally loves his coffee..
I'm not sure I really cared for this. Set in Britain with british english... that's not the problem. Ray really didn't do it for me as an alien. He's portrayed as super innocent and yet he's 2 mil yrs old and spent time watching Earth at different intervals. Plus, he strikes me as a whiny bratty baby.. especially when telling Blake that he doesn't want to be mortal.
AND... there's no sex. There's a little action... finally... at the end but by then I'm like over it.. This really didn't do it for me.
Sweet and funny story about Ray who comes to Earth to save the human race and falls in love with Blake. I like how the writer used some historical facts and persons (f.i Leonardo da Vinci) and gave it/them clever and funny twists.
