The ups and downs of this book was a lot to take. Blake and her guys have been through the ringer. It’s in Blake’s point of view as per the usual. I wish there was some kind of divider to show when a scene changed. It just goes into another paragraph like a normal scene. For example, they will be sitting down to dinner with everyone, and Blake has a bit of conversation with other characters and the next thing we know, they are training before bed talking about something else.
Jace is the older Bell brother. He was Blake’s music teacher in the first book before they learned she’s Amanda, the girl that was in the “institute” with them as kids. She goes by Blake now, her uncle/father (that raised her before he was killed) changed her identity when he broke her out of the institute. He shacked up with Heidi, and when he was murdered, she turned into a cold hearted, druggy. She sold Ella, her uncle’s biological daughter (he died before they knew Heidi was preggo) for cash to support her drug habit which happens in book 2. Jace notices her bruises coming to school, and tries to help. Thankfully, it comes out that her and Jaxon (the younger bell brother) talk in the minds and have been having conservations since she was ten. After her father/uncles funeral. She’s sent to a mental institution and they misdiagnose her thinking’s it’s all in her head. Blake carries so much weight on her shoulders, taking care of Ella, her baby sister, or cousin. Blake is taken to a university where she finally gets to meet Jaxon as an adult. She doesn’t remember the institute at this point. She also gets to meet Remy, a quiet big guy. His gift is strength. He disappears frequently when emotions run high. Blake also meets Troy, the womanizer in the group, who all know the score. He is the last guy to make a connection with Blake. A connection is another word for Bond. Which doesn’t happen until either the end of the 3rd book or the start of this one. Troy is also martial arts trained, with a somewhat military smart even though he was never in the military. He owns a security company, and they took a couple jobs in California. Blake meets Anna, who instantly attached herself to Blake, this is before Blake saves Anna from a bullet, getting a nasty graze on her arm. Its here that she meets her last connection, Lincoln, a handsome actor. Blake has to really battle her inner jealousy, seeing the girls in the base dress and act around him was hard to read. I felt her pain like it was my own. They moved on from Remy, Jace, Jaxon, Troy, Noah and Drake. Noah is the medic in the group, his ex is Stacey-who is a complete nasty ass witch to Blake. Blake in the first book jumped to telling the guys to continue seeing their gfs. It was rough reading her thoughts. Thankfully got a do-over in book 2. She was so naive in so many ways when it comes to a relationship. She got to know Tamara, Troy’s on and off again girlfriend. She was a wicked witch, and her n Stacey band together with Rose- Drakes girlfriend in making Blake’s life hell throughout the first 3 books. It drove me nuts to hear the stuff being said to Blake in jealousy, and the guys rarely speaking up. They would express how they weren’t interested in theirs and anyone else’s besides Blake’s advances. They still touched them anytime they could. Blake caught it a few times, and we got inside knowledge on how much it hurt her. Drake her silent support, the chef of the group, but also super tech smart, was the hardest one to watch, he has a guilty conscience and is the last one to make the decision to end his current relationship with Rose. Blake feels guilty overall, knowing that she’s the main reason they are ending their relationships, their connection that she can barely reconcile. 2 connections is a lot in their community, and she now has 7 with Lincoln. So a total of 8. Turns out she’s a by product of test done so her grandmother could have a baby. Her mother. Her mother gave birth to 5 kids. Which is unheard of. 2 is max. Which means Blake’s mom, genetically altered enough to allow her to have more children than normal. All but the last was abandoned, have an emerged gift. Micah the oldest at 15 I think, can portal with people to different places. Kade, can read peoples minds, Alex has dreams and can draws them out. He was terrified of it when he came to them all. He taught Ella how to draw out her premonitions that her Precog gift supplies. She saves them all in numerous situations when her 7 year old self tells them all that something needs to happen. They all listen. Lincoln is last to be added in Connections. He shows up at the mountain, only to criticize her for pushing to hard when she was already injured. Their trust builds naturally. Then she’s kidnapped n finds she preggo. Finally they mind speak but she’s unable to tell them where she is. She’s wearing the “Halo” device. Shocks when the user uses their gift. Thankfully help is on the way. What a dramatic ending. I need more!
