Gifted Connections #4

Gifted Connections 4

Rate this book
Every time I think I’m finally getting a handle on my life, I learn I couldn’t be more wrong. I discovered life had a way of laughing at me and telling me…watch this. It wasn’t enough that I was reunited with a mother I didn’t want to be reunited with. Apparently, my gift thought having six men wasn’t enough either. I felt like I finally understood the importance of cultivating, maintaining, and nurturing my relationships with them. Now, the curveball.
Inside me laid yet another gift. A gift that demanded I find my seventh connection. Some of my connections struggled with it. I struggled with it, but we had no choice. If I didn’t, my health, the health of the men I loved, was in jeopardy. Now it is a race against the clock to find the mystery man and hope he is willing to make this connection before it is too late.
Amidst all these changes I feel like I’m losing one of my best friends when I need her most. My sister, Ella, is struggling with her own demons. Horatio hasn’t rested as he continues to make our existence even harder. Life continues to march on while I figure out a way to hold on or lose myself.

Ok, as of March 11, 2021, this series does not have book five out yet and this book left off on a big cliffhanger. Seeing as this book came out two years ago, I definitely thought I was going into a completed series.

I really did enjoy this series though. This book was thick and had a lot going on, and I was surprised when I was slowly getting closer to the end and the end was not near. I definitely felt like this book could’ve been shorter, but I did enjoy even the mundane things it kept mentioning.

Blake has a seventh connection out there, and they go in search of him so that they don’t lose their gifts as they were slowly starting to. Turns out, he’s famous and a manhoe who is sleeping with Troy’s ex (who also was with Noah, shocker 🙄). I actually ended up really liking him, I thought he brought out a different side to her we hadn’t seen yet.

I’m glad to see she has more support around her as far as adults go, but sometimes it felt like she wasn’t as in charge of the kids as she should’ve been. Like she was content to just let Will parent them, especially Ella.

So, a lot does happen in this book. There are small details that could’ve done without, and as with the other books, there are way too many characters that at times I just zoned out reading their names. However, I can’t deny that all her extended family and her friends add something to the group dynamic, and it is quite enjoyable.

This series could do with some intense editing, I even volunteer to do it. It’s a great group, and there are real growing pains within their group that I liked reading about.

I really hope book 5 releases this year, I am anxiously awaiting the outcome of everything and everyone’s fate!

What is happening?

Well, absolutely nothing changed in this book compared to the last one except now Blake got kidnapped and all that went with that. 401 pages and about 395 were wasted because it was just a continuous repeat of all the stuff from previous books but she added another connection. And obviously that was not very noteworthy. There is no reason this story couldn’t have been wrapped up without all this extraneous mess. What’s worse is that it ends on a cliffhanger and the author hasn’t written the next book in two years. I agree with the other reviews about the author needing a new editor. I’m starting to wonder if English is her first language because some of the wording is a little off but not insurmountable. Grammar had ZERO to do with this review. It got two stars for being monotonous and a waste of my time.

I swear there is like 150 characters in this story ..wtf!?

The author needs to curb her enthusiasm when it comes to creating new useless characters ...seriously it is tiring to try and remember what’s her/his name and why he/she is in the story to begin with !

I honestly think the author used all the names in the English language thats how many characters she has....

The problem with creating an uber powerful protagonist is that you have to create an even more powerful enemy otherwise there won’t be much of a challenge and that is exactly what happened here ..the challenge was not convincing enough ..

So the book was ok and hopefully half the characters will die in the next book to make it smoother

Oh wow!

Alright, let me just say I LOVE the new guy! He fits in with the others simply because he DOESN’T fit in, and I’m here for it. Like this entire series, things are getting even more complicated.

I’m exhausted! Seriously. How can this book end like that? Book 5 is going to be epic.

Ok, so, the first 10% of this book was slow. I almost put it down but am glad I pushed through. Once it picks up speed, well, I had to hold on tight and not fall off the roller coaster. This series gets better with each instalment.

Hire a New Editor

I want to rate this higher but Oliver you need a new editor. There are a number of times when the subject verb agreement is off, you will say something and then immediately repeat it, sometimes in the very next paragraph, and if you are changing the scene, say having the group all sitting and talking about now that they know Blake's connection is with Eva they at least have a starting point you need to do something other than a space between paragraphs before you jump to a scene with Remy ripping off his shirt. When you change the scene within a chapter you need to skip a line have a dash, a line, a symbol, something, skip another line, then start your next paragraph otherwise you lose the reader. Oddly enough you randomly do this once or twice after the 90% point in the book but that it. Overall the editing really went down hill as the page number increased.

Beyond that, remember Blake is an 18 year old girl, yes she has been through a lot and had to grow up quickly, but it's weird when she calls the kids, who are just a few years younger than her in some cases, "the children". It verges on creepy. Stop writing her as though she is a 60 year old woman. you do this on more point than just with the kids but it is off and disturbing. Blake for all her hardships is 18 and you.should see.moments of that. You also seem to be forgetting that Jemmy is like 16 and Jax is only 18. You also have the actual adults keep bringing.up things in front of the children , like can they train with the adults, that Will would never bring up in front of the kids and put Blake.on the spot. It is highly inappropriate. Remember the personalities of the characters you have created as you write the scenes. You also seem to.have completely abandoned the whole needing to recharge through means after using their powers and completely ignored how this is impacting the little ones who are using their power very young and very often. Polish and fine tune the story a little more before you release it and you will have something really amazing.

Read other books from this author in the future: yes

The fourth book of the series has now been published and whoever believes it to be the last book will be taught a better lesson. And of course the fourth book ends with a cliffhanger.
And as you can see at the end of book 3, there is a seventh connection. In order to solve the health problems of Blake and her men and to regain their abilities, the seventh person has to be found. This is what most of the book deals with. Otherwise it's about Blake's organic mother and her siblings, a resurrected Greg who is the organic mother's husband, and other family complications.
Except for the fourth Cliffhanger, the book is worth reading.

Deutsche Rezension:

I didn't like it and somehow I still read it because underneath the things I didn't like I still enjoyed the story.

Where to start?

- too many characters (not the first time I say this). Distracts from the story and the harem. The harem is big enough to entertain so it's not necessary to also know about every side characters life and drama. A spinoff series would have worked better instead.

- very little happens in this story regarding the "villan". They go on missions constantly that have me confused as to why this "911 emergencies" happen. I dont fully understand the villans purpose and his desire to have blake. I do but I dont.

- thanks to the introduction of linc we had to repeaaaat all the story of blake (that apparently is set in less than 2 months... what?!) And I had to fast foward those moments because it was the 3rd time reading them!

- blake takes too long justifyinggg everything. "I am wearing no make up because *3 paragraphs of explanation* and when a similar situation happens again she does the same thing! Is like I get it you are so cool and very down to earth (I like it but ugh)... move on!!!

- harry. I have no idea what happened here with his powers and the solution of blake and linc. I was like what???

- blake is constantly making random revelations that she later explains where this things come from or why she is talkimg about them. Once or twice is refreshing and new. All the time? Gets old! And has me confused.

Frig

The ups and downs of this book was a lot to take. Blake and her guys have been through the ringer. It’s in Blake’s point of view as per the usual. I wish there was some kind of divider to show when a scene changed. It just goes into another paragraph like a normal scene. For example, they will be sitting down to dinner with everyone, and Blake has a bit of conversation with other characters and the next thing we know, they are training before bed talking about something else.
Jace is the older Bell brother. He was Blake’s music teacher in the first book before they learned she’s Amanda, the girl that was in the “institute” with them as kids. She goes by Blake now, her uncle/father (that raised her before he was killed) changed her identity when he broke her out of the institute. He shacked up with Heidi, and when he was murdered, she turned into a cold hearted, druggy. She sold Ella, her uncle’s biological daughter (he died before they knew Heidi was preggo) for cash to support her drug habit which happens in book 2. Jace notices her bruises coming to school, and tries to help. Thankfully, it comes out that her and Jaxon (the younger bell brother) talk in the minds and have been having conservations since she was ten. After her father/uncles funeral. She’s sent to a mental institution and they misdiagnose her thinking’s it’s all in her head. Blake carries so much weight on her shoulders, taking care of Ella, her baby sister, or cousin. Blake is taken to a university where she finally gets to meet Jaxon as an adult. She doesn’t remember the institute at this point. She also gets to meet Remy, a quiet big guy. His gift is strength. He disappears frequently when emotions run high. Blake also meets Troy, the womanizer in the group, who all know the score. He is the last guy to make a connection with Blake. A connection is another word for Bond. Which doesn’t happen until either the end of the 3rd book or the start of this one. Troy is also martial arts trained, with a somewhat military smart even though he was never in the military. He owns a security company, and they took a couple jobs in California. Blake meets Anna, who instantly attached herself to Blake, this is before Blake saves Anna from a bullet, getting a nasty graze on her arm. Its here that she meets her last connection, Lincoln, a handsome actor. Blake has to really battle her inner jealousy, seeing the girls in the base dress and act around him was hard to read. I felt her pain like it was my own. They moved on from Remy, Jace, Jaxon, Troy, Noah and Drake. Noah is the medic in the group, his ex is Stacey-who is a complete nasty ass witch to Blake. Blake in the first book jumped to telling the guys to continue seeing their gfs. It was rough reading her thoughts. Thankfully got a do-over in book 2. She was so naive in so many ways when it comes to a relationship. She got to know Tamara, Troy’s on and off again girlfriend. She was a wicked witch, and her n Stacey band together with Rose- Drakes girlfriend in making Blake’s life hell throughout the first 3 books. It drove me nuts to hear the stuff being said to Blake in jealousy, and the guys rarely speaking up. They would express how they weren’t interested in theirs and anyone else’s besides Blake’s advances. They still touched them anytime they could. Blake caught it a few times, and we got inside knowledge on how much it hurt her. Drake her silent support, the chef of the group, but also super tech smart, was the hardest one to watch, he has a guilty conscience and is the last one to make the decision to end his current relationship with Rose. Blake feels guilty overall, knowing that she’s the main reason they are ending their relationships, their connection that she can barely reconcile. 2 connections is a lot in their community, and she now has 7 with Lincoln. So a total of 8. Turns out she’s a by product of test done so her grandmother could have a baby. Her mother. Her mother gave birth to 5 kids. Which is unheard of. 2 is max. Which means Blake’s mom, genetically altered enough to allow her to have more children than normal. All but the last was abandoned, have an emerged gift. Micah the oldest at 15 I think, can portal with people to different places. Kade, can read peoples minds, Alex has dreams and can draws them out. He was terrified of it when he came to them all. He taught Ella how to draw out her premonitions that her Precog gift supplies. She saves them all in numerous situations when her 7 year old self tells them all that something needs to happen. They all listen. Lincoln is last to be added in Connections. He shows up at the mountain, only to criticize her for pushing to hard when she was already injured. Their trust builds naturally. Then she’s kidnapped n finds she preggo. Finally they mind speak but she’s unable to tell them where she is. She’s wearing the “Halo” device. Shocks when the user uses their gift. Thankfully help is on the way. What a dramatic ending. I need more!

MCs:
Blake/Amanda, Jaxson, Jace, Troy, Remy, Noah, Drake,

Subpar Synopsis:
A young abused girl (Blake) with compulsion abilities meets her connections, fated companions that (when fully bonded) support and increase their gifted abilities. Her connected (Jax, Jace, Troy, Remy, Noah, and Drake) introduce her to the gifted community and their vision of helping each other while living peacefully with nons, or non-gifted individuals. They endure the trials of a relationship where she functions as the nucleus navigating a romantic bond with all 6 guys. Blake also finds out that there is another group of gifted that have a God-like complex run by Horatio (). They intend to change the world to put gifted in charge and wipe out nons completely.

Thoughts:
This is the second series (the other being Seeking Asylum) I've read by this author and I gotta say.... it's a bit of a carbon copy. There's a lot of repetitive themes throughout both; so much so that I didn't go into this knowing it was the same author but it quickly became apparent. There's a plethora of side characters and, more annoyingly, a hefty handful of two-dimensional "mean girls". They're always whorey, jealous, dingbats that the FMC out-maneuvers and then it comes back to bite her in the ass. It just reads very immature and boring.

As far as the MCs go... Blake was well-written but the guys really didn't take off until book 3 for me. Their slutty pasts and the fact that Noah continues his relationship prior to the time-reversal felt disloyal and cheaty to me. All of the guys (exception of Drake) were whores and it just kept getting reiterated over... and over... and overrrr.... Enough already. Aside from that, their actual personalities were well-done. They felt different from each other and were able to grow with each other and Blake.

Writing and grammar would have to be my most annoying complaint throughout this books. They. Are. Rampant. I can look past it usually but these errors were on almost every page and they often contradicted what was being said or who was saying it, etc. It also felt like half the chapters were dictated to Siri or something (ex: affect vs. effect, affinity vs. infinity, new vs. knew). A lot of repetitive phrasing was throughout. Another person commented in question of maybe a language barrier and that might explain it but the frequency really took me out of the world and made me reread and backtrack too many times to count.

The biggest disappointment of this book, despite all of my above criticism, is that it seems it will remain unfinished. This author has the ability to write amazing, lovable characters (assuming she likes them). The story was just getting interesting as well. If this series hadn't evolved in book 3 I'd shrug it off but where we leave off? Ugh... that sucks.

Series Overall: ShrugI genuinely don't know how to rate this. If I rated it up until this point, I'd say 3.9/5. Problem is... the series is unfinished with no end in sight and I can't rate it this high without any hope of closure so my final score is 1/5.

Confused, but it still a great series

Ok. I’m going to moan on a bit because I feel that this is an epic series and a strong, very likeable MC. I would be 5 stars but the formatting and editing let it down. There needs to be some sort of symbol or even a new chapter when jumping to a different scene - it confuses the reader the way it’s set out at the moment. For some strange reason there is a symbol in the second half of the book but the use of a ? Sign in a box just looks a bit silly.

There are so many characters now that I can’t keep them all straight I think we need more of a description and reintroduction to some of them in each book. It’s seriously frustrating when there’s a bunch of characters name and you’re constantly thinking errr who’s that again? I’m probably going to get the first one again and read them back to back (no hardship). A family tree would be good at the front of the book.

Read on Kindle Unlimited *may contain spoilers **

First I want to say W O W thank you SM Olivier for sending us back to this world. I love the characters SO much.
In this book we’re back in Blake’s head following the realization that she has ANOTHER connection. I didn’t expect to love him so much, but I totally do! He keeps Blake grounded. Instead of giving in to her every demand he makes her think and even tests her patience. Blake also needs to work on that anger 🤷🏼‍♀️
I will say that I had a hard time connecting to Jemmy in this book and Ella was hard to connect with as well. Hopefully they fix their issues!
I love Blake and the boys! Can’t wait to read more! Waiting for the next installment, I’m an avid fan 🖤🖤

Noooooo!

How could you do that to us?!?!? When I saw only four books in the gifted collection I felt sure that I would leave knowing a happy ending. Why can't you forewarn us before we leap headfirst into their lives that there's going to be another one. I might have spaced the books with other's if I'd known, rather than ignoring the housework, feeding the family and walking the dog to get to their happy ever after. Please S.M. get writing - the Easter break only has one more week and then I have to go back to work. It's bad enough ignoring my family for Blake and her guy's, fitting you into a work schedule too will be harder!!! Please at least give us a potential release date so I know to keep an eye out. You're really, really mean...

Thank the stars, I kept reading the story even when i thought it was getting boring because now its very interesting and the plot is so good.
In this book, Blake and her guys perform a few gigs for Troy's company and find out about her last connection. Due to her last incomplete connection , she and all her guys are losing thier gift ,it has become difficult. But they have all the loyal friends and their connections in this dificult time.
Blake completes her connection and the gifts are returned to them , which makes them all very poweful .Thwy now help on the missions and bring pregnant girls, children who were abused by Horatio.
A cliffhanger where Horatio is finally successful in kidnapping Blake.

Great story, Poor editing

I love the storyline here and can't wait to read the next book....but I can't give the book 5 stars for one,and only one, reason; poor editing. Please, find an editor that doesn't make simple mistakes with grammar and repeat word choice. This entire series is riddled with simple mistakes that are taught how to be fixed in grade school.

If a reader is able to get past that (which I have been) than you truly have another wonderful book for the series. Although, at this point, I'm ready for the tale to end. There's only so much drama a plotline can take before it just makes the story ridiculous.

Yowza!!!!

Run, don't walk to read this!!! Only if you've read the first three in this genius series!! Be warned however it ends with a doozy of a cliffhanger, so prepare your need to shake your fist at the ceiling and scream WHY?!?!! LOL. As usual Blake and her crew get into all goes if situations, and we gain a few colorful people in their tribe. But where this book and will definitely leave you shocked, breathless and desperate for MORE, MORE, MORE!!! Families are complicated, but my goodness does Blake and hers rewrite that term and then some! It's worth every single moment!

Outstanding and Incredible Story

This story just gets more interesting and intriguing as it goes along. I am truly loving the pace that naturally flows. An the way the Author has wrote the characters u can’t help but Accompany them on this amazing journey of discovery and danger.

***** 5 Star Reading Material
I have read author S M Olivier’s work so I knew she is an incredible writer. I just was not expecting to be so absorbed into this unbelievable and creative story. The characters themselves add an endearing element to it that you just get more drawn in with every page.

I’m so upset. What the heck. This was published in 2018 and she never felt like finishing this story. I will never, I repeat never read anything by this author again. This is just nuts. I know life happens but really. It’s now 2024 and you still haven’t figured out how to end the story. As an author we count on you, we trust you, we put our faith in you to finish what you start. No one wants to start a series that ends on a cliff hanger. Especially when we read 4 books to get there. That is a great deal of time to be invested in something the author doesn’t feel is worthy enough to finish. Shame on you.

A few mistakes

There's a few mistakes in this one, enough to halt reading and making you go back and try to figure out what is happening. There's something else that bugs me, something will be mentioned that hasn't happened in the book but is written as though it has, it makes you stop and think when did that happen, only for it to be explained in the next paragraph. It's really disconcerting when you're reading and suddenly you feel like you must have missed a bit somehow. Maybe that's just me though

Growing with each book..

I am so ooo sad that the next one is not out yet...I hate cliffhangers!
When I started this series I thought the author must be young as the writing seemed juvenile but the story was intriguing. As I've read each book it seems the writer is growing with the books. Kind of like J.K.Rowling did with each Harry Potter. Now I'm hooked! Ugh and the idea of waiting for yet another book is depressing!
I am excited with this author as they are most definitely a talented story teller! More sex would be nice but that's just me being thirsty!

BEWARE - Unfinished Series

Beware of starting this series. It appears to be complete (book 4 of 4) but ends on a giant cliffhanger. Since this book was published over 5 years ago, I’m assuming chances of any sort of conclusion are slim to none. This is the second series I have read by this author, the second to end on a cliffhanger, and years since the book was published. Definitely will not be reading anything by this author in the future. It’s getting 2 stars instead of 1 because up until the end, the story was good (if you ignore editing).

Excellent

Wow! So much going on! So much excitement! I love it that Blake found an 8th connection, and what a connection he is! SM Olivier has written a wonderful book with badass women, strong supportive males and family. There is so much going on that it draws you in you can’t wait to see what happens next. Surprises, twists up down and sideways. This is a wonderful fun story that I love from beginning to last sentence. I’m looking forward to the next book in this series!

OMG These books just keep getting better and better!
Arggggh cliff hanger warning lol
I really love the dynamics of Blake and her connections, and the story just keeps me hooked and wanting more!
Less Horatio in this book, (or is there?!) and we mostly concentrate on Blake’s other connection, and their gifts getting weaker, as well of course as family dramas, and the kids get a better voice in this book too.

Seriously recommend this series, it’s fricking awesone!!

This has been an amazing series so far!

There are moments in the story that has me laughing out loud but there are others where I just want to strangle Blake!!

My only criticism, and I can say it is not solely about this book, but at times the female leads tend to be slightly whiny.. come on ladies are we really that bad?!?! (Not a question I will ask the husband 😂)

Very excited about the 5th book.

NOT happy there is another cliff hanger, and now, I have to wait for the book. I stupidly thought this was a complete series, and now I am paying the price. I just hope that I even remember this series when the next book comes out. I have enjoyed it immensely, and the story just continues to grow. I have noticed that the characters have developed more, there are more layers to peel back and I like that. I do not want a stagnant series.

Great but another cliffy

So SM Olivier is skilled at having her stories take massive turns. The story is good, great even, interesting, but through all these books the need for a copy editor stands out. I don't detract anything from my rating for that, because like a fly at a picnic you shouldn't let it ruin the whole thing. It may be a major problem for other readers though. I'm going to check the release date on this and hope the next book is coming out soon.

Omg

You did not just do that?! That cliffhanger!!! I hope that what she fears, isn't true and that maybe she saw it wrong or maybe some powers were used to change the scenario...please! The 7th guy, I wasn't sure how it would work out since we're used to the six, but somehow it works...and he's so amazing as well. Now I begin the wait for book 5

After every book I think what more could possibly happen and where is the book going to go, and everytime it gets even better. The cliffhangers are killers and the wait between books makes me want to pull my hair out lol but it’s worth the wait, absolutely love these books and love all the characters!
