All Hearts on Deck: One Last Christmas

Rate this book
When you’ve only got one last Christmas, you’ll do whatever it takes to make it perfect.
Bailey
My older brother and his family are the most important people in my life. He took me off the streets when I ran away seven years ago. When he asks me to be the guardian of his kids in the event of his death, I promise him never to let our mother get custody of his kids.
A year after his death, I’m struggling to keep my niece and nephew. Thanks to my boss, and the cruise tickets he gives me for Christmas bonus, we’re able to get away temporarily. And I’ll try not to think that, I may have done the one thing I promised myself never to do again, for those tickets.

Arthur
Money and men are my two vices. The first is easy to make, the second never stays. Given my bad luck with men, I should stay away from my handyman, Bailey. He’s too young, too goodlooking, too perfect. When I gift him two tickets for a Christmas Caribbean cruise, I have no intention of following him, but Bailey breaks our professional relationship when he shows me just how grateful he is. Following him on that cruise, I have every intention of picking up right where we left off, but Bailey comes with extra baggage I’m not sure I can handle. Do I dare pursue his heart on deck when he’s made it clear he’s a package deal?

All Hearts on Deck is a 60k+ word Christmas novel which can be read as a standalone. It follows the secondary character Bailey from book 2 of the Till There Was You series.

I loved Bailey, from his first appearance in Ollie on the Out
(Till There Was You #2).
I won't lie, as much as I like Drew, I really thought these two would hit it off, at least once. Even til the end, there was residual tension. But alas, sometimes what the heart wants, the heart cannot receive. Bailey's life took an unexpected turn and he found himself back home and working for the very rich Arthur Parrish. Arthur was attracted to Bailey, finding ways to watch the younger man as he worked around his home.

"Well, what if you could be a parent? Would you want to?" ~David, Bailey's brother.

Life never goes as expected and Bailey was floundering after his brother's death. Father to his twin niece and nephew, he was struggling to survive considering how much he had on his plate. With the holidays coming, he needed to make it the best possible as the new year could bring changes. So imagine his surprise when his boss offered him cruise tickets.

I hated the thought of him falling for someone else. ~Arthur

He had everything he needed...well, not really, but after all the drama, Arthur could not understand his attraction to his employee. He had been crushing hard on the young man, and he let so much of that attraction push him to do what he did. Now he was hooked...line and sinker. Bailey was under his skin. But Arthur never thought one night would change everything.

There were more secrets to be discovered.

One cruise, closed quarters and nowhere to run. These two found themselves building something wonderful. Yet, all the secrets surrounding Bailey was about to be revealed. Would they survive, or would they implode?

I have enjoyed the writings of Gianni Holmes and was excited to finally see Bailey get his happy ending. I won't lie, I expected big fireworks. I think I wanted what "Till" had. What I got was two men trying hard to connect. Yes, there was some chemistry, and a homophobic mother whom I wanted to thrown under a bus and redemption of epic proportion.

Addendum: As per the author request, I reread the published story and I can personally say, the extra scenes and the the epilogue really pulled the story together in a way the ARC didn't. I am glad I got an opportunity to do this and I am able to readjust my ratings based on this.

I voluntarily and honestly reviewed this book without bias or persuasion from the author.

In Alabama, we see Ollie's ex-classmate, Bailey who has dropped out to care for his brother's children.
Bailey, 23, brown hair and eyes, is guardian

to twins Reggie and Gina, 6, after his brother David's and his wife's deaths, and works as maintenance man.
Handsome wealthy Arthur, 38,

hired Bailey a year ago for his palatial home.

The Christmas bonus was given to Bailey after he fixed the sink. At the bank, Bailey noticed a mistake, and went back to the mansion. It was nearly Christmas, the first one since the kids parents died, and Bailey wants to make it a happy one, even amidst the tears and emotions.

Bailey is strong and dedicated, caring and patient and the twins are wonderful characters. Their sitter is Emily, a next door neighbor. Bailey's mom is a menace, homophobe, and causes chaos, because deceased David had borrowed money to buy his house, and she intends to take it away from Bailey and the kids.

Bailey trades the Christmas cruise tickets Arthur gifted him, for accommodations with the twins and sitter, too.

Arthur shows up on deck and the men are going to explore their sexy times if they can.
We watch the cruise fun, misunderstanding, and an issue with Bailey's past that rocks Arthur. We see the interactions, the kids joy, Bailey and Emily's friendship, and much more. I liked these men, separately and together. Their sexy times are scorching hotness.

(there are mistakes like hair color, and spelling Author instead of Arthur, but I don't mark off for those.)

This is a delightful holiday story with a few bumps in the road.
We end up feeling good, and very happy.

It's entertaining, unlikely, but fun, and interesting. That's fiction, right?! We get Christmas happiness.
ENJOY !

🔥🔥🔥Heat Level: 3.5

A highly recommended ‘real’ read that just so happens to be set at Christmas!!!

OMG! From the outset, this book had a grip on me!
Wonderful writing style, with endearing characters, some real life struggles and a HEA that made everything okay in the end.

The hints to the family tragedy Bailey had suffered gripped me from the blurb, to the prologue through many of the early chapters. Oh my, I've got to admit I got a bit misty! Gianni’s writing style made Bailey’s (and Gina and Reggie’s) feelings so real for me and I could feel my heart breaking for those kids! I think having a young son myself I could relate, in a way, to the sadness he would feel if anything happened to us or my profound sadness if anything happened to him!

Vague Spoilers below...

Gianni’s wonderful writing style kept me guessing as to Bailey’s back story, while endearing him to me with his emotions and nerves around Arthur. Arthur came across as an endearing ‘bear’ with love to give and a few demons of his own to face. I really enjoyed how the story played out and while Gianni could have made it grittier, darker and could have stretched out the story, it didn’t feel rushed or too short. As I am obsessed with details and realism in many of the contemporary stories I read, I loved the connection between Bailey and Arthur. It felt real and authentic and while there is a moment when I wanted to yell at Arthur for his attitude/response to Bailey’s past, I don’t think their connection could have felt more real once they found their way back to each other.

I think it helped that it’s mentioned that Bailey and Arthur knew each other for almost a year before starting something so that added to the authentic feeling of their ‘speedy’ connection. Can I just say their physical connections are hot, hot, hot! (I must say I especially enjoyed their first time in Arthur suite on the cruise, whoa 🔥🔥🔥) But I must say all the sexy times just fit wonderfully within the story and didn’t detract for the progress or come out of the blue they were just seamlessly intertwined 💜

Some extra notes:
With my insane need for details I still managed to found some ‘gaps’, leading to unanswered questions (as I usually do) but with this story my questions are inconsequential and unnecessary for the story and connection between Bailey and Arthur. My questions are; what was Bailey studying at Collage? How did David and Suzette die? Things like that…

One more thing I just have to say because it need saying. Bailey’s mother can go to hell! While I know she’s a fictional character, the way Gianni wrote about her made her, feel so real and was so unbelievably horrid, I can’t believe someone could be so evil and spiteful to her own sons! I’m so very glad Arthur ‘spoke’ to her and she will never go near those beautiful children again!

Anyway that's all from me now

Thanks for reading 📚!

This is a great feel-good story, and a perfectly sweet way to wrap up the “Till There Was You”-series.

I loved that we get to see Bailey find his happily-ever-after too, because it was a bit painful to see him pine for Ollie like that, knowing nothing could ever come of it. He’s a very likable character and I really wanted him to find happiness too.

Bailey has had a difficult life, which kind of surprised me, because he seemed so put-together and positive in the previous book. Though of course, some of his hardships were still to come at that point. I think it’s great how he took on the role of single parent, sacrificing his immediate future to take care of his brother’s children. Gianni Holmes has a real knack for writing raw, emotional scenes, and she doesn’t hesitate to bring conflict and hurtful bias to the doorstep of her characters. A touch of ugly reality to intrude on the holiday spirit and the magic of true love, ultimately making the HEA more satisfying when it does come. For Bailey, all of that is mostly caused by his mother, making it even more painful for him.

Arthur has his own reasons for being wary of love and he finds it hard to trust Bailey at first, and a little later, and … Though in his defense, appearances can be deceiving and he can be forgiven for jumping to certain conclusions. I especially loved the moment where Arthur tells Bailey that he is all in, wanting a relationship with Bailey, even knowing that that also means making room for Gina and Reggie in his life. That’s a defining moment for Arthur. He reacts quite badly, however, when a certain secret from Bailey’s past is suddenly revealed. Bailey’s reluctance to share that particular part of his life is understandable, but secrets always have a way of coming out with the worst timing. And that’s exactly what happens here. Things look very bleak before they get better.

But they do get better and the ending is super sweet and hopeful. Totally recommend this story!

Money Can’t Buy Love!

Going commando, a drinking crutch, and the old trope-dysfunctional families are pieces of the Bailey & Arthur story. This was an odd story to me. The writing style seemed bit choppy, the sentence structure seemed more England English. This was another insta-love relationship that I didn’t quite buy. I didn’t feel the connection between the MCs. And, the sexy times seemed rushed and desperate. Did they ever have sex in a bed? I also didn’t buy the ‘big-secret-reveal-by-the-jerk’ scene. It was too convenient. I gave this story a 3⭐️⭐️⭐️ rating because it’s an average read.

Have you ever come across a book when, checking out the blurb, you think "there's absolutely no way these two have any chance at a HEA ending?" Well, that was me, but I figured I'd give it a shot. I am SO glad I did!!! This was a fantastic, bittersweet, engaging, poignant, intense, emotionally charged, grab-you-by-the-feels, powerful, beautiful, wonderful, and sexy story. I was hooked from the very first page, and I must admit I wanted to open up a major can of whupass on certain characters. I would recommend getting this gem ASAP.

All Hearts on Deck is the last book in the "Till There Was You " series, but can be read as standalone without any problems.
The base idea boss (very rich!) x employee (in need) is nothing new, but the story the author created, surely is. The story is really original. I enjoyed every page of the book, and never got bored for a second.
Baily is a very good guy, working hard, caring for the people important to him.
Most of the story centers around him so we dont learn a lot about Arthurs background, but its clear that despite his social standing he has his insecurities, not at least because he is not the typical sixpack, hot confident billionair but more the older teddy bear guy, with a very good heart as well.
The two of them dont have it easy to built something up, and despite there insta attraction to each other they do have a rocky start, but at the end i feel they are just right for each other.
The book lies a lot of focus on family values or in some cases the lack of them.
I found it very emotional, especially the second half of the book.
It was an awesome read. THX !

This was such a beautiful read. I haven't read any of the other parts in this series but I was easily able to jump in without feeling like I was missing anything. Bailey is a wonderful man with a huge heart and dark past that breaks my heart. The way he is with the children is awesome. His mother on the other hand, gets no love from me. What a rotten person. I was white knuckled as things between Bailey and Arthur went through tension, secrets, pasts deeds, my word there was so much between them to overcome. I won't get into details of how things end, because I don't like to spoil but wow, each time I thought I could breathe again, something else, something worse. Wow. I should also mention there was smoking chemistry with some very hot sex scenes. Love. I need to go back and read the first two parts now. If you are looking for a beautiful M/M romance with tension and real stakes this is a great story.

I've been a fan of MC Bailey since he became a lovingly protective best friend to Ollie in "Ollie on the Out" (Till There Was You series, Book 2), so I was totally onboard for his story and some Christmas romance and a Caribbean cruise to boot.

With all that Bailey had gone through in the past and his present situation in this book (no spoilers), from the get-go I was rooting so hard for his happiness - so much so that, ironically, I had much less sympathy for Arthur and his relationship hangups that he continually projected onto Bailey. Not too far into this story, I'd already become wary of Arthur with his quick rushes to judgement and knew another big shoe would drop toward the end of the cruise - which it did, with a thud - and Arthur's swift reaction to it just put me off him all the more. I was happy that Bailey and his family found their HEA, but Arthur still never fully won me over.

(And the Ollie/Drew appearance at the end was glorious! A Merry Christmas, indeed.)

I love love love Arthur and Bailey. They are not only hot and sexy together, they are sweet and make an adorable loving family with those kids. They have their obstacles to overcome but they have a connection much stronger that secrets and jealousy. The story is well told, entertaining and the perfect addition to the Til There Was You series.
I received an advanced reader's copy of the book and I am voluntarily leaving my honest review and recommendation.

Love, love, love this Christmas story. Gianni Holmes did a fantastic job with All Hands on Deck. Bailey and Arthur are the perfect couples. I love any stories with kids and she didn't disappoint with this one. Bailey made a commitment to take care of his brother's kids if anything happens to him. He's a struggling college student who was kicked out of his mother's home because of his sexuality. He had to do what it takes to survive and his brother pulled him off the streets. Bailey does what it takes to keep his family to together and to keep his mother off his back.
Bailey's mother is a piece of work and I love the fact that Arthur came to his rescue. The kids are just are sweet as they even with the grief they had to endure. I hope you enjoy this book as much as I did. It has romance, sweetness, a lot of angst, and the sex scenes are hot.

All Hearts On Deck is a great boss/employee romance.

Bailey's raising his niece and nephew, but is close to losing them in a custody battle. When he takes them on a cruise, with tickets given to him by his boss, Arthur, he never expects to find love.

Arthur's had a crush on Bailey for a while, and was hoping for a romantic cruise with the younger man. As the two men navigate their way through their feelings, they have to deal with wrong assumptions, fears and secrets.

The two men are complete opposites, in age, wealth and responsibilities. Following as they try to come together, and try to figure out if there's even a way to do so, is a fun and entertaining journey. Gianni Holmes did a great job with this book.

Although I haven’t read the other books, Bailey was a new character to me.
And this story had me hooked from the first page!
It gives you the emotional ride you crave and ends with the warm fuzzies you need this time of year!!!!!
❤️
Arthur and Bailey’s chemistry sizzled from afar until one afternoon they tested their connection.

And damn if they didn’t have a hot connection!!!

But as they get on the cruise for Christmas and neither of them have contacted each other, stories are mixed up, passion is in abundance and Baileys past comes back to haunt him!

I fell in love with both of the MC’s.
Baileys past hurt and you really felt for the man. And Arthur you felt for him and being alone!
But together they now have the best future together with their family ❤️❤️❤️❤️

Love realized on a Christmas Cruise!

What a great story! I loved it! This is set at Christmas, but it isn't just a Christmas story. It is a story for the ages. It shows how love can be all forgiving, all encompassing, enlightening. How family is everything.
This is Arthur & Bailey's story. Employer & employee, they fall for each other without ever knowing who each other really is. Bailey is raising his late brother's twins. Arthur is rich, lonely, and oddly clueless. When a Christmas Cruise throws all their secrets into the open, mistakes will be made by both men. It will take two cute kids, a crisis, an overbearing, selfish grandmother, hot sex and a lot of love for these two men to find their HEA. You will love this book!
This book contains adult themes and language, mm sex, and is intended for mature readers only.

I am totally addicted to Gianni Holmes' stories. This is the third in her Till There Was You series. Bailey (best friend of Ollie from Book 2) is doing what he can to provide adequately for his brother's twins after David & his wife passed, having promised to not let the twins' grandmother raise them as poorly as she did Bailey & David. He is currently working for Arthur as pool man & groundskeeper.
Arthur has been captivated by Bailey for nearly a year despite their slight age difference. Wary due to past relationship failures, he approaches cautiously. Grab your copy and follow Bailey & Arthur through their difficulties, missteps, and a Christmas cruise as they find love and more importantly, a family.

A bittersweet ending

Gianni Holmes wraps up the Til There Was You series in spectacular fashion. Bailey finally gets his HEA, although it was anything but smooth sailing. Bailey and Arthur were total opposites except in one thing, they both wanted to be loved. This was a great emotional rollercoaster of read as the characters dealt with loss, kids, a lack of communication on Arthur's part, and Bailey's past which comes back to haunt him. This was a fantastic way to end the series, although I wouldn't say no to a reunion book featuring characters from all of the books.

Absolutely love this story! It is an emotional roller coaster that is a spectacular ride to a beautiful HEA. Bailey finally gets his true love with Arthur. They are exactly what each one needed in their life and they truly make a perfect family. I admire Bailey, he made a lot of sacrifices for his niece and nephew and is truly willing to do anything for them. It's a beautiful, heartfelt story with lots of bumps in the road. I'm just sorry that this series is ending, I would love to see more of all of the couples! I voluntarily reviewed an advanced reader copy of this book.

The Cruise!

Bailey works as a Maintence man now instead of finishing his Education. His Brother passed away and left him custody of his Twin children. Christmas was around the corner and Bailey wanted the children to be excited about it. Arthur, Bailey's Employer is very attracted to Bailey and constantly watches him, cleaning the pool, trimming the hedges etc. Getting together as a couple has lots of hurdles to jump over until they find happiness. I hope there will be more stories in this series.

I really enjoyed All Hearts on Deck and I thought story was interesting. Bailey and Arthur were good MCs and I liked that they really came from two different worlds, never mind a great age separation. I love kids in stories especially at Christmas and when you add the evil mother/grandmother, it just gets better. I was a little confused on the setting, but I finally nailed it down to Alabama. I’ve never been on a cruise, but it sounded like a lot of fun. I would recommend this book.

Sweet

A great book that made me cry and cheer for Bailey all at the same time. Bailey with a past that he tried to forget so that he can raise his brothers kids without them being taken away by his mother, but also falling in love with his boss. Arthur is a bear that can’t stop thinking about Bailey and then finds out about everything but doesn’t seem to know how to handle all of it.
This book kept me wanting more but know that it’s a happy ever after.

A gay man is given the utmost challenge when his brother and his wife die, leaving him to look after his twin niece and nephew and having to deal with a nasty, know-it-all, homophobic, conniving mother, but all is not lost, enter a love interest and maybe things will end happily... Read it and find out.... The story is interestingly told and is a quick read. It has my recommendation!

Wasn't sure if I'd like this story when I first started reading. The first interactions between the older Arthur and the younger man Bailey, seemed a little off since I thought Arthur came off really cold and aloof. But that demeaner was just hiding a heart of gold. I really loved these two together and the twins were so cute and important equally to the both of them. Really didn't see the need for the neighbor/babysitters drama-really didn't care about her at all but she played only a small role so it was ok. 5***** for a hot holiday read!

2.5 stars. This book had some holiday warmth and sweet twins, but I never really felt the connection between the two leads. Physical chemistry does not equal instalove; these two had little in common and didn’t talk enough for me to relate to them very well.
