A Love For Tomorrow

Rate this book
When Christian talk show host Serenity Williams's fiancé calls off their wedding because he can't deal with her popularity, she determines that she will never fall in love with another pride–filled, ego–driven pastor. Then, Serenity's producer asks her to interview the charismatic Pastor Phillip McKnight, who has recently gone through a divorce. Serenity feels that this is her chance to expose the arrogance of ego–filled pastors to the world. But Pastor Phillip is broken and humbled from his experiences, and the surprising humility of this man causes Serenity to want to un–break his heart. However, Serenity will need the Lord to fix her heart and change her mind about male preachers before she and Phillip can become all they were meant to be to each other.

What do you when you have dated someone for over five years and he calls off the wedding?
What do you do when your wife tells you she wants no parts in your ministry and divorces you because she wants your money and not you?
Inside these pages is a candid look at how a PK (preachers kid) deals with the hurts that occur in ministry that translate into her personal life. Serenity Williams comes from a family that is loving but has done a lot to shape an influence her ministry and life. She loves her talk show and the times she shares God's word but she has a couple of hangups that are holding her back from being all God has called her to be.
Pastor Phillip McKnight, is a former NFL superstar who has traded in his cleats for spreading the Gospel and bringing souls into the kingdom. Who would have forseen that the whole left by his ex-wife would take a minister to help him in forgiveness and humility.
Fabulous read on how God can heal us from our most awful hurts and lead us to new truths..

The writing was strong and well structured.
Despite that the characters were unrelatable. Wealthy people may make for a good imaginative story or an escape in romance, but in reality it comes off as pompous when the woman can drop $200 or $2000 without blinking. And it goes against her character as a leader in a Christian ministry.
There were some elements that I found that were contradictory to the Bible and its teachings.

Overall, the story was okay.

Inspirational ✍🏾 teaching story

The lesson that most influences and impacts me while reading the book of the series was to be friendly and open after speaking about the gospel of Jesus Christ. Be like Jesus and do not worry about getting hurt.

There is a book #2 to this series, "A Promise Of Forever Love" Yvonne Milner's story. Do not know why but it does not show as a Kindle edition but I have it.

Vanessa Miller’s Second Chance Series, book 2, “A Love for Tomorrow” is one of my favorite reads of the series thus far. There are several valuable lessons to be learned in this novel.

Serenity Williams and Michael Randolph dated for five years, had marriage plans for the last three years of the five years in the relationship that went sour because of his ego-driven motives and persona for his church ministry. This divided the couple to go their separate ways. Later, Michael wants an interview on Serenity’s televised ministry program and also announces his new marriage plans to Karen. Karen is the opposite of Serenity, who will not challenge Michael’s competitiveness or someone that will overshadow him and his ministry like he feared Serenity would. Serenity once asked herself while in the relationship and after meeting Pastor Phillip McKnight, “How long do you have to wait on God to work on somebody?” Yet, we have to work on ourselves, not asking God to change someone else to meet our own agenda.

Serenity knew since a young girl that God called her to minister the gospel to many, yet she started a TV ministry based on her own understanding instead of becoming a Pastor in which is her true calling. Like most of us, she allowed fear to take hold of her true ministry by being cautious of not undergoing disappointments and losing church members like her father and brother did as pastors. She also is afraid of developing meaningful relationships. Not only does Serenity fear “intimacy” with God, but also walking into her destiny.

Serenity Williams and Pastor Phillip McKnight are facing past relationships that require healing, restoring, and allow the Holy Spirit move in their situations by letting go and let Him perform miracles in their lives. Pastor Phillip McKnight has to let go of his past marriage, ex-wife Chantel, and a love before he came to Christ, and seek closure of this old relationship before moving into a new one. Serenity has waited on a man she believed was her husband. Michael only reminded her of his position in the Christian ministry, not wanting her to overstep him although she’s anointed with God-given gifts and abilities for the occasion. These two, Serenity and Phillip, see how their past lovers get involved with another person to replace them to meet their own needs, or trying to come back in their life when things look promising for them. I enjoyed reading this novel because this couple has a chance for love regardless of their past choices, past relationships, and past desires. We change when we look at things differently and accept our calling.

I really enjoyed this second book in Vanessa Miller's Second Chance at Love series.

Serenity Williams is a good friend of Melinda Johnson's, from Miller's first book in the series – Yesterday's Promise, which I previously reviewed. Melinda was engaged to a man who didn't believe that a woman should be a minister. She used Serenity's relationship with her fiancé to prove that a man can, and should, support his successful, and Christian, woman.

This second book starts off with Michael, Serenity's fiancé, calling off their wedding just a week before the big date! She's devastated, as any woman would be.

Pastor Philip McKnight is an ex-football player who is interviewed on Serenity's religious television show. He's the first man she's interviewed on her show. He's a single father raising his daughter alone. He's trying to recover from his divorce.

Serenity has endured many hurts, and is a little (okay, a LOT) jaded when it comes to relationships. So, when Pastor McKnight takes an interest in her, she doesn't appreciate it. When she's told that she's stand-offish when it comes to her studio audience, she doesn't appreciate it. She needs to mellow out – and maybe, just maybe, Phillip McKnight is just the man to help her along. If she will allow him to.

Like I said, earlier, I enjoyed this book. The characters were fully developed and Vanessa Miller made Phillip McKnight another one of those good men who are hard to find...

It's been a long time since I've read an entire book in a day. But I knew I would be in my stylist's chair for several hours so I picked up this book from my to-read book basket and cracked it open. Once I got going, I kept going (reading, that is). The book was very good; light, meaningful, and not as predictable as I initially thought it would be. Phillip McKnight joined an ever-growing list of male lead characters that I wish would come to life and set their sights on me, because it seems like men that pursue their desired women as relentlessly as he did ONLY exist between the pages of books. And I love my family dearly, but I found myself wanting to be a part of the Williams clan. They were quite relatable. The protagonist, Serenity, kind of wore me out with her hot and cold attitude, not only towards Phillip but just in general, but I can certainly relate to not wanting to deal with a certain group of people after having one such person from that group wrongs you.
A lot of books with that have a spiritual undercurrent come off as preachy or dry, but thankfully this one didn't. It shined a light on the difference between preachers and evangelists, which a lot of people tend to think are interchangeable, and how flawed even the most fervent lovers of God can be. I can definitely say I would recommend this book to others, and I can say I would read it again.

Although "A Love for Tomorrow" is the second book of the Second Chance at Love series, it can easily be read as a stand alone book. The characters are well developed and the storyline is so well done, that one doesn't feel like they are missing out on anything.

This book is a bit under 250 pages and is a quick and engrossing read. I enjoyed the struggles of the main character, Serenity Williams. Being a woman pastor, she is in a man's world and finds complications with her chosen career and her love life. She vows never to marry a pastor, because two pastors in the family just don't work. The storyline is very realistic and the struggles and insecurities that surround Serenity really ring true. One gets to see the "other side" of being a pastor from a woman's point of view. Serenity was also a pastor's child, so she brings that point of view in besides, and along with that, the complications and feelings of growing up in the church system.

Vanessa Miller has a wonderful and captivating writing style that I thoroughly enjoyed. I will certainly be reading the first book of the series!

In A Love for Tomorrow by Vanessa Miller, readers are introduced to Serenity Williams a popular evangelist. Serenity is engaged to be married to Michael Randolph a prominent minister who decides a week before their wedding that he cannot go through with it. Serenity is heartbroken, confused and decides that she will never have a relationship with a preacher again until…

Pastor Phillip McKnight is preparing to be interviewed by Serenity Williams and he is nervous. Pastor Phillip is not sure what to expect but he is honored to be doing the interview. Once he meets Serenity, a spark ignites within him that makes him want to know more about her. Serenity is not easily convinced and Pastor Phillip soon realizes it will be harder then he suspected to win Serenity over.

A Love for Tomorrow is about looking into your past to heal your future. A person may not realize how much baggage he or she is carrying and how much it affects their well-being. Learning to let go starts the healing process, which is expressed very well in this book. The characters are well developed and readers will be able to relate to them. I recommend this book to others.

Serenity let past church hurts prevent her from developing close relationships then being dumped by her fiance' weeks before her wedding did not help. Michael being a minister turned her off from wanting any type of intimate relationships with men of the cloth. Enters Phillip McKnight former NFL sensation turned a sensation for the kingdom who falls helplessly in love with Serenity but she must overcome her personal demons if they are ever to be. Such a heartfelt story line. I really enjoyed this novel. Vanessa has the ability to take God's word and display it in a way that it comes alive on the pages of her novels. Loved this one just like all the others I've read. Just goes to show that in the kingdom we all have some issues that if unresolved hinder our growth and walk with God. The message was really displayed! A few grammatical errors along the way but a very good novel. Keep up the good work Ms. Miller, I will keep reading!

First of all, this is my first read by Vanessa Miller and while I enjoyed this book, I cannot recommend it because it defies what the Bible says about the role of women in the church. From a purely "I'm reading this because it's a good book, not filled with smut and foul language" standpoint, I could recommend it.

Serenity has just been dumped by Michael because he can't stand her being in the limelight more than he. She moves on with her life, further builds her career, and when the chips start to fall, who's there for her? Why did the chips all anyway? Could it be that bridges burnt can haunt you?

I read this book in just under 2 hours. It's a super fast read for a rainy day!

Many thanks to the publisher for providing review copy!

I enjoyed this book. It wasn't fantastic but the storyline kept me interested. It had a great lesson about how past hurts can destroy the future, and it's really what I needed. It also has a great reminder that the truth will set you free and help you move forward. It truly helped me see how in unforgiveness can truly hinder not only your relationships, but your ministry.

This book was okay. It felt rushed to me. The story make up was good and is relevant to real life; however, the events surrounding just didn't flow well for me.
