I wanted nothing to do with love. I’m done. Broken in so many places I’m unrecognizable—even to myself. Lost. So f***ing lost I don’t know what the Hell I’m doing now. I’ve succumb to the darkness that has kindly offered me solace. I had to peace out at like 40%. This book is simply not my cuppa.
The angst meter was off the charts high. The heroine was a victim of sexual, emotional and domestic abuse for much of her life and it was detailed on page for chapters. So yeah, not something I want to be reading in a romance novel. I don't like my romances fluffy -- can't stand them sickly sweet or too treacly -- I actually like them rather grounded, but I don't want to go blow my brains out either.
The hero was way up in his feels all the time. His ex-girlfriend and mother of his kids who he's know since they were six apparently cheated on him and is getting married to the new guy and wants them all to be friends. He's hurt and wallowing and drinking and crying and fucking all over the place. The writing for him, in his first person POV felt like I was reading his journal, written furiously in purple pen. It was a little to too overwrought for my taste:

It just made me want to stare soulfully at my navel and rail at life.
Also I was a little confused by all the contradictory descriptions of the heroine's skin tone. When we first meet her in the space of a few pages she is described with "skin is like mocha, rich but smooth" but then a few pages later "her tan skin pales in what looks like horror" and then a few pages after that "she turns a beautiful shade of pink." Later he is seen "running [his] fingers lightly along the lavender marks that mar her soft caramel skin." The heroine herself marvels at the hero's "creamy skin a beautifully stark contrast to my cocoa tone." But then the hero later says something dirty "knowing full well that she will turn as red as her cocoa butter skin will allow."
I think I could have gotten past some of the prose and the inconsistency with the descriptions hence me making it to 40% mark and I even skimmed ahead a bit to see if it lightens up, but the tone of the book waaaay too angsty for me.

I could not put this book down, and I have no shame in saying that I am a little bit in love with Cole.
Cole is a broken man. He has lost his way, lost his whole damn life and is drowning in alcohol and meaningless trysts to block out his heartache. But even when he is being an asshole, you can’t help but like him and route for him to see the light. That light comes in the form of Angeleigh. Angeleigh has had a hard life, a horrendous life at times, so when she meets Cole it sparks a hope in her that she thought was lost. Both of them have to deal with issues that will either make or break them. They both have to fight in order to survive.
The ending left me on the edge of my seat, literally.
A phenomenal second book by Andrea Hopkins. Mind Blown.

I’m so glad Cole got a story & his happy ever after. Great characters, I really felt for them through the book. It was also nice to revisit Evie & Jake too. A fab read, thank you.

Evie is Cole’s ex, the mother of his children and she did a number on him in the first book, basically destroying him. She’s marrying the guy she left him for but seems to think they can work things out and still be okay. Obviously it’s far from okay, and we find him trying to drown his sorrows and get rebound sex wherever he can. He's not really caring if he can get his life back together again…until he meets Angeleigh. Given her history of abuse you’d think that she would have liked someone more like the old Cole but no, she yearns for the broken, depressed and belligerent man he’s become and hopes he’s the one to save her. The author gives warnings about the very adult and frankly quite disturbing graphically described scenes and they are warranted. This is not my usual kind of reading but I have to give credit where it’s due, it’s well written and on the mark.

Whew! This book… THIS BOOK! OHEMGEE THIS BOOK! Every emotion. Every. Single. One. All wrapped up in these pages. Andrea ripped my chest, took my heart out, smashed it, then picked it up, put it back together and healed it. I am so in love with Cole and Angeleigh! These two broken souls who survived so much tragedy and heartache, they found each other at their worst and healed together. Their journey was no fairytale whatsoever, this is a heartbreakingly beautiful story born from the ashes of some very messed up situations. I loved it so much, loved their love, their connection, how deep they fell for each other, the protectiveness for one another, the chemistry (holyyyyy s** they were hot!) and the patience they had while they were healing, finding themselves and each other. I laughed, I bawled like a baby and found so much hope! I need to keep reading this series because it’s absolutely addicting!

4.5 Stars for this sexy, emotional tale
After Cole and Evie’s messy split, Cole is a wreck of epic proportions. He turns to drugs, alcohol, and sex to numb the pain, but threatens to lose himself in the process. That is, until he meets Angeleigh, who is more deeply scarred than Cole and Evie put together.
And while she may have already lost herself to the abusive relationship she’s in, the undeniable pull of instant attraction between her and Cole begins to wake Angeleigh up. But will her sadistic, controlling boyfriend really let her go?
In a story that toyed with my boundaries of comfort (trigger warnings: sexual abuse, alcohol/drug abuse, domestic violence, and other related topics), we get a front seat to painful moments in these would-be love birds’ lives, showing what exactly they’ve gone through to get to the lows they’re in. And why they’re exactly what the other needs.
These characters are so realistically written in the detail of their pasts, the realism of their reactions and decisions, and the emotions their tale evokes, there’s so much here to love. My only reason for not giving this a straight up five stars is that I felt there was a lot that could’ve been trimmed out, and I found myself skimming in places as some of the overexposition threw me out of the mood. But when the action was rolling and the steamy scenes were underway, and there was plenty of both, I was absolutely riveted by Cole and Angeleigh’s tumultuous romance.

I’m so glad Andrea gave Cole his own book. Let me warn you—it is hauntingly heartbreaking & definitely contains some sensitive topics. Besides Cole’s pain and struggle to overcome heartbreak, is Angeleigh, who had a TERRIBLE life. I spent most of the book crying over what she went through... but in the end, their love healed them both. That’s what love does - it heals your deepest, darkest wounds. Cole deserved it after what he went through & this book healed my broken heart for him.

Cole's story was filled with ups and downs. At first I was mad at the way Cole was handling everything but then everything changes and he finds himself again along with finding his Angel. It was nice to catch up with the characters from the first book. Excited to see what is in store for the group in the next book.

I loved Cole’s story
I really did wonder how he would deal with his pain and come out of his self-destructive phase because this book deep dives straight into it all from the first chapter! It was wild, raw and so heartbreaking but so worth the read.
And then came Angeleigh ❤️
Her trauma was brutal but her will to survive was everything.
These two really were perfect for each other and I loved how their story felt genuine, especially with how Cole realised and acknowledged what true love felt like.
Now I’m about to throw myself headfirst into book 3 😍

Broken and Mended
CW/TW: Alcohol/drug abuse, domestic violence, rape, abuse flashbacks, lots and lots of happy seggsy times.
My poor heart ached for Cole. After his life imploded, he went on his own personal self destruction tour. Whatever alcohol, substance, or willing woman he could find to temporarily ease the pain he'd partake in them. That's until he literally ran into his neighbor Angeleigh, his Angel, his own personal beacon of light calling him out from the darkness. He was smitten, but she was skittish because her demons were as big, bad and as real as his were. The two eventually become friends and share their hurts, their trauma, their pain, their brokenness, and when thrown together by more drama they become each other's saving grace. This book put a pain in my chest, had me crying into my Kindle- both sad and happy tears, turning up the fan, and smiling like a fool because everything works out for everyone involved and it is beautiful. Cole and Angeleigh were each other's souls counterparts and it showed, I loved this book so damn much.

Better than the 1st...
I had a hard time getting through the 1st book Falling In, not because the writing was bad but I'm not a fan of cheating even emotional, and Cole was so good to Evie; after reading Falling Out, I now realize they weren't meant to be! This story of 2 broken people finding a home in each other touched me. I loved it and can't wait to read what's next!

Loved the hero. Loved the heroine. This book was full of traumatic content that pulled on my heart strings over and over again. I was so happy to see Cole find love again, especially in such an incredible women like Angeleigh. Their chemistry was thrilling, even if it was a little on the instant-love side. Sometimes, when you know... you know. I felt like that was how these two were. The way Cole stepped up to protect and care for this woman he barely knew, showed what kind of man he truly was and how big his heart was.
Some of the silly phrasing like "mother trucker" became redundant, but for the most part I found this read utterly enjoyable. A deep, haunting, compassionate love story between two broken souls.

Two books into this engaging series and I’m officially an Andrea Hopkins fan! Her characters are unapologetically real and emotionally driven. They make you think, love, hate and empathise, and she writes in a style that draws you in and keeps you captivated. I was sooo happy this book focused on Cole and was rooting for him to find happiness. Loved Cole. Loved Angel. Loved this book.

Just. Amazing
I didnt think that this could be better than the first book but jesus...it was! Angeleigh is so beautifully broken and has been dominated and abused by men who swore they loved her until she was run down by Cole coming out of his apartment. What unfolds is 2 beautiful broken people finding the strength in each other to heal
