Book Title: Inside the C-Suite: 21 Lessons from Top Management to Get Your Way in Business and in Life
Author: Jayaram Easwaran
Format: Paperback

Book Title:
The title of the book ' Inside the C-Suite: 21 Lessons from Top Management to Get Your Way in Business and in Life ' clearly explains that the book is about 21 stories taken from the corporate world.

Book Cover:
The cover image of the book is attractive with the title in large font and catchy turquoise colored letters

Inside the book:
Inside C Suite is a collection of 21 short stories, which are inspired by some events and incidents from the real corporate world and is blended with a good amount of fiction. For a corporate employee who is always keen to know what happens in the top management level especially at the CXO level, what kind of risks and pressures the top people undergo, what happens in the meeting rooms, how does business run, why are mid-level and top-level people often criticized by the employees for their attitudes and such things, this book is a perfect one to have a read.

My Review:
I have been into Software Consulting for 11 years and right from the campus interview and selection I have tuned myself to fit into the corporate life. I still remember it was in the year 2006 when I landed in my first IT job in the then Satyam Computers. The buildings, the people and the mentors were all so well versed that it was a complete paradigm shift of world for a fresher like me. It was during the training and mini-project time when I first tasted the jolt of a professional. I had to compose myself and adapt to the situations. Then came a promotion and in four years I have donned the role of  Team Lead and thus the real corporate world welcomed me.

The war room meetings, the long mail trials, and con-calls had a toll on me mentally and physically. At that point in time, I have been asked to report to a new manager from another location and it was an eye-opener. Whatever the author Jayaram has scripted and illustrated in each of his stories is an almost a real-life reflection from the corporate world. There were some instances when the managers and higher management people were cursed by the employees for their lurking attitude or straight forward approach. But people fail to understand that the CXO people undergo extreme pressures everywhere in order to run the business well.

In this book, the author has presented the readers with 21 short yet very effective stories that talk about the decision making approaches, pressure tackling ways and, relationship lessons that the top-notch management in any company adapts under any type of situations. This book definitely will change the thinking attitude of any employee and create a positive impact on their peers. Last but not least, I truly appreciate my peers with whom I have worked and thanks to the author for penning this wonderful book.

This book packs in byte sized experiences/anecdotes from various echelons of Corporate Life. It becomes increasingly clear that as we move up the corporate ladder, managing egos, inter-department dynamics and personal relationships becomes more important vis-a-vis competency and skill.
Several lessons/anecdotes reminded me of similar incidents in my young, 6 year old career path.
It is crucial to understand and comprehend varying interests of the varied people, which can range from downright pettiness to stellar ambition; and sometimes, nothing can stand in their way. That might be critical for organizational buy-in (or in some cases, survival!)
Yes, it's a cliché, but "uneasy lies the head that wears the crown" - or in this case - who sits in the corner office(s). Part of the game.
In this day and age, with unfettered access to knowledge - someone's people and inter-personal skills will become a true competitive advantage.
Nice read. Food for thought. Can the author make it to 210 instead of 21 please? :)

Discovering the book “Inside the C-Suite (21 Secrets from Top Management)” by Jayaram Easwaran was no less than Serendipity.

I was aboard Air Vistara flipping through the inflight magazine, and that’s where the name of this book caught my eye in the Reader’s Choice section. The title intrigued me and I thought to order a copy right away, lest I forget. I was on the payments page of the Amazon app, when the stewardess announced, closing all doors for departure, and the plane began to taxi on the runway. The announcement to turn off all electronic devices soon ensued. Seeing me fiddle with my phone, an Air hostess walked up to me and politely requested me to switch off my mobile phone. I told her what I was doing on my phone, and that I would turn it off as soon as my order was placed. She smilingly conceded to my request and walked past me. (On recalling this incident, I feel amused to see myself as a kid pleading with an elder to allow him/her five more minutes as if to finish a game.)

In the corporate world, one question that’s often asked is, ‘What does it take to reach the top and stay there?’ Be it the fancy MBA in a hurry to occupy the corner office or the hard-working manager slogging for years or the sycophant who flatters his way up the corporate ladder, the C-Suite is the ultimate aspiration for everyone.

Taking you right inside the C-Suite, Jayaram Easwaran presents twenty-one stories based on real incidents during his three-decade career. Each story has a message that addresses the most pertinent problems of our work lives. Stories about the dilemma of being virtuous when the stakes are high, the pitfalls of judging a book by its cover, the dangers of blind ambition, ego squabbles among the top brass and many others make this book a treasure trove of wisdom. Quoting Anand Mahindra, ‘a must-read for all aspiring to do well in business and in life.’

Inside the C -suite is just collection of few stories. Don't get misguided by the title - on getting guidance of handling critical tasks in C suit level. These stories have been generic.
If you have time - read !!

First of all thanks to Harper Collins for being so thoughtful and sending me a copy of this book.
Inside C-Suite is a game changer in the genre of Business Fiction. Unlike most Business Fiction which use plots of frauds, corporate politics, rat race to get ahead etc, Inside C Suite is actually a collection of 21 short stories, which are fictionalized but can't be any nearer to the truth. If you are a working professional who is always curious about what actually happens at the CXO level, what all go inside the swanky board rooms, why few mid/higher management professionals get ahead while others are left lurking behind, this collection of short stories is perfect to have a tête-a-tete with. There are ego clashes and back-bitching, there are cunning ways to get your way around and hilarious comebacks to save your face. The book will further establish the fact that you possibly already know- your soft skills, people management capability and the communication style has much more far fetching consequences than you can think. I enjoyed reading these stories and I am sure you will too.

Short book with 21 anecdotal stories concluding in simple lessons for work & for life. Different stories of courage, honesty, ego clashes, politics at the top and how people dealt with the situations. Good one-time read. 3 stars.

Just finished reading the book. Jayaram is a master story teller. Great observations, woven into very meaningful stories, full of insights, yet no preaching.

Keep them coming.

Stories of Typical Indian Company politics. Nothing related to the Name of the book. Completely useless.
