Another exciting Zombie novel by Thomas S. Flowers. Matt Weight does a great job narrating, as well. :)

This short novel is unflinching, gore-soaked zombie mayhem at its best! Add in 1980's technology and fashion, make the setting a tropical island, and you've got a book that could well be a novelization of a lost Lucio Fulci film.

Thomas Flowers' writing is succinct, gruesomely descriptive, and action oriented. Two relatable main characters with clear, yet separate objectives, and cinematic story-telling is what makes "Island of the Flesh Eaters" so much fun.

The first novella that I've read this year has the potential to be the best novella of the year!

Just released yesterday, I read this one last night, and it is a near perfect read! There isn't a slow point in the story. Coming in at just 100 pages, it reads like a movie playing in your head (and you can read it in the amount of time it would take to watch a movie).

The story is totally engaging, as are the characters, and the descriptions are nauseatingly wonderful. I enjoyed this one even more than Flower's Planet of the Dead.

A great little novella length, zombie horror. A nod to the 80s. This direct to paperback release is an awesome ride full of blood, and that gritty VHS horror we all love. Thomas nailed it with this, and I'm looking forward to jumping into his other works!

Awesome read! I've been on a break from the zombie genre the last couple years so this was the perfect way to get back into it. The story was full of action and flowed easily. Even being such a short read I was still able to connect with the main characters. I've already ordered the sequel, City of the Flesh Eaters, and Flowers other zombie book Planet of the Dead. I can't wait for more of his flesh eating freaks! 4/5 zombie skulls 💀

An Enjoyable Read!

This book is for fans of the zombie genre and quite enjoyable. It also proves that the strong and well armed may not fare as well as the weaker and ill equipped. It may just hinge on pure dumb luck or being in the right place at the right time.

I received a free copy of this book for an honest review.

I love zombies, anything zombie-related. So, when I saw this book advertised on Audiobook Boom, I was all eager to learn more. On that note, this was an interesting listen-to (audiobook version). I wish it would have been a little longer though, at least giving the reader a clue as to how the zombie outbreak started. Given the island had drugs going back and forth to it, or so I’d assume, I’m guessing it started with the drugs? I have no clue though. I’d also be curious to know why the author decided to have his story take place in the ‘80s.

The narrator did an alright job. He wasn’t able to do a female voice that good, but… His accent for Jesus—the Mexican dock worker was funny since he wasn’t able to do one either. It sounded like it would have come from someone who’d been in America the majority of his, lived with an American family, so his accent was barely there anymore. There were also words that he pronounced too correctly or questionable. The narrator sounded like he was American, at least having English as his native language (no hint of an accent), yet there were words that he pronounced “button” as in but-ton (which sounded weird) or “exhaling,” and adding in a “z” so it sounded like ex-zaling. I didn’t understand that.

I forgot who said it, but someone compared Mary (the zombie version) to a “dead living girl.” For some reason, I just found that funny. It made me think of Rob Zombie’s one song “Living Dead Girl.”

I’m always on the lookout for mistakes, so when the narrator said, “We don’t get paid enough to get ate,” it made me smile. I don’t know if the author just used the wrong word in the script or if it was the narrator’s mistakes, but that was one of those random things that stood out to me. Otherwise, the story flowed nicely.

My only real question/comment I had was in relation to when the two characters were going back home. They were wondering how they'd get anyone to believe them. Yet, they had Billy with them the entire time on the ship. If they hadn't already come to terms with using him as evidence, what did they have planned for him, if anything? And they seemed to have forgotten about the previous boat captain who'd been a zombie and had bitten at least one of the dock workers. So, when they saw all the chaos going on, it wasn't surprising that the zombie...whatever it was, was spreading.

Here we have a somewhat gruesome, yet typical zombie tale. All contact is lost with a group of young adults on holiday at a Caribbean Island resort. A Special Forces team is hired to investigate. What they find on the island is much more than they bargained for. Will they find the party goers? If so, will they get off the island alive? And what will they find when they get home, if they get home? Not a bad tale, just short.
