Harper Harlow #4

Ghostly Worries

Rate this book
Whisper Cove is stuck in a heat wave, although it’s nothing compared to the fire stoking between Harper Harlow and Jared Monroe. They’re happy and enjoying themselves … until a face from the past resurfaces.

Jason Thurman and Harper had a brief fling in high school, and when he returns to town to open a restaurant he’s hoping they can revisit their relationship as adults. Harper has no interest other than friendship in the amiable man, but he seems determined despite her protests.

When a body drops at his restaurant, Harper finds herself in a unique situation. The deceased woman died horribly, but she’s completely unlikeable and helping her is harder than Harper ever envisioned – mostly because she’s keeping secrets from the only people who can solve her murder.

Between Jason’s unwanted attention, a brewing fight with Zander, and an enemy no one can pin down, Harper has her hands full. Jared is by her side, but jealousy is getting the better of him even as he fights to do right by his blonde.

When the end comes, will Jared be too distracted to realize who the enemy really is? Will Harper’s insistence on believing Jason is innocent be her ultimate downfall?

Only time will tell … and the clock is ticking.

The characters are likable and the banter is charming. I love the relationship between the three main characters, but the rest is fluff🙂. That is OK, since just as at this time, I can only handle fluff, so such is necessary, but the supposed mysteries are always very secondary. I will stick with the series because I really enjoy the friendship between Harper and Zander. The stories are very formulaic, but at the moment they hit just the right note with me. If you like the chic-lit vibe, this is perfect. Since I have very similar friend dynamics, the stories make me smile all the time. Worth the time to read just to be in a good mood 😀😀😀👍

I just love this series!

I love the three some of Harper, Jared, & Zander! There relationship is so unique and I understand it being a poly woman that you can have more than one soulmate no matter what dynamic the relationship is. Harper and Zander's friendship makes me laugh and smile. I love the characters in this book!

The Backchat gets Boring

I was amused by the first book, less amused by 2 and 3 and for this one, was pretty much done with the silliness. Two adults acting like 4th graders wears pretty thin when the rest of the plot doesn't make up for it. The final scene with them under the table and Zander accusing the murderer out of annoyance with Harper was the last straw. No more of this series for me.

I know its just a story but. . .

It was not believable. When I read a book I like the story to be believable and this wasn't. Never mind mind that the cop boyfriend is a wuss. But when harper found out what could have been information to get the killer, she didn't go to the police. She went and told the suspect the information. And automatically believed him on his story. Everyone knows a murderer is going to tell the truth. NOT. But when the cop finds out what she did he (honestly what a wuss) kept apologizing to her and the suspect! Come on! Sorry this book could have been good but wasn't.

I am not sure why I continue reading this series. The more I read of Amanda M. Lee/Lily Harper Hart, the more irked I get.

Why are all the characters the same?

Can we please see some variety?

This wasn't much of a mystery. It was pretty obvious once again who the culprit was.

Don't get me wrong, I enjoy her humor. I love sarcasm and sass. What I don't like is damsel in distress syndrome.

Men do not need to save women.

Women do not need to be submissive.

Please make your heroines self sufficient and the love interests actually respect them.

I have really enjoyed the series but this one was kind of a let down. Too much nooky and childish arguing and not enough about the victim and the killer. The ghost rarely showed up and there was a very sketchy background for her. It was totally hard to feel any sympathy for her character. I finished because it was still fun but a let down compared to previous books.

Another disappointment. The ghost stories are not very focused. There was so much bickering, I just lost interest.

So much fun!

Harper sees ghosts. She stopped caring about what others thought and opened a ghost hunter business with her bestie, Zander. Enter Jared, the new detective in town who doesn't believe in anything he can't see. Of course, sparks fly when they meet over a dead body.

I absolutely love the characters in this book. Harper is awesome - strong in that she doesn't let anyone else tell her what to do or how to live her life, but vulnerable in that her only true friend is Zander, who she both lives and works with. Zander is absolutely ridicilous (and seriously loveable), but 100% pro-Harper, no matter what. They are joined at the hip, and anyone entering into a relationship with either has to accept that. Jared figures that out, and actually does pretty well at accepting Zander's position in Harlow's life. Every one of the side characters are also great, well developed and multi-dimensional.

Episode 4: An old high school fling from Harper's past returns, and Jared is not happy about it and the ghost of dead mean girl is not helping with her murder. Fun times!

I've said this in all of the other reviews: Ellipses!!!!! Just...WHY?!?!?! Stop already! You can make a sentence and statement without the use of ellipses. Authors do it all the time.

And once AGAIN, she was a victim in a life or death situation. I just would love a series where we can have a constant dialogue with the spirit. This one was nearly nothing.

I'm really hating Zander at this point. It was funny in book 1 but it has gotten so repetitive and they are so incredibly toxic. Not just for each other but literally for all other relationships around them.

Harper is an idiot. There. I said it. This character is written in such a hypocritical format its ridiculous. She has feelings of wariness but does things anyway?

I honestly want to read the books just to see if the author changes any aspect in them, the start of the book being them in trouble with a ghost case, Jared and Harper discussing how much they adore each other, Zander being completely irritating, then Harper ending up a victim at the end. That has literally been every single book. Does it change?

Harper's high school boyfriend,

Jason Thurman, returns to Whisper Cove and bumps into the GHI team as they complete the clearance of a house he's viewing. Zander's particularly unhappy as he's been grimed and Jason always did manage to "steal his thunder".

Later Harper takes a trip to the lake, conveniently close to Jason's new restaurant, with Zander and they discover a body. Rosie Sawyer, a dental hygienist, has been strangled and her body left under the deck of the restaurant.

With Jason making his intentions towards Harper plain, Rosie refusing to reveal the name of her lover, and some entertaining squabbling between Zander, Harper and Jared it's not a certainty that they are going to solve it.. the killer won't hold back though and is determined to keep their identity hidden at all costs.

Ghostly Worries ( Harper Harlow Mystery Book 4

Enjoyed this episode from the series as much as the others. It gets right into it at the beginning. The deceased was really a horrible person. It was hard to feel sorry for her at first. The story progresses and she gets worse. Didn't have an inkling about the identity of the killer till the very end. I thought the person was to obvious so I ruled them out. Big mistake. Sometimes things seem exactly like they are. Jason and Harper are still so cute. Harlow and Zander still squabble like cats and dogs. I find their banter to be extremely funny. They're like siblings but better because they're not. Not everyone can say they have a super good friend like Zander. Jason is great as usual. Can't wait to find out what mischief our threesome get into.

Since I don't normally write reviews unless I have something specific to say, here's the break down of how I rate my books...

1 star... This book was bad, so bad I may have given up and skipped to the end. I will avoid this author like the plague in the future.

2 stars... This book was not very good, and I won't be reading any more from the author.

3 stars... This book was ok, but I won't go out of my way to read more, But if I find another book by the author for under a dollar I'd pick it up.

4 stars... I really enjoyed this book and will definitely be on the look out to pick up more from the series/author.

5 stars... I loved this book! It has earned a permanent home in my collection and I'll be picking up the rest of the series and other books from the author ASAP.

Entertaining paranormal cozy mystery series

This is an entertaining paranormal cozy mystery series. A fun cast of characters and an entertaining storyline. Harper Harlow is a young woman in a small town in northern Michigan. She also has the ability to see and talk to ghost. Along with her flamboyant best friend since childhood Xander. They run a ghost hunting and eradication business. Xander’s uncle is a local police detective as well as harpers boyfriend is his partner Jared another police detective. Harper and Xander always seem to get tied up in whatever crime Jared and his partner are investigating. Always a fun and entertaining story with lots of twists mystery and fun. Check it out

Ignore all logic

Not the worst series I've read. It seems the author is relying heavily on using the relationship between Jared and Haper and constantly being mushy to make the books longer. Also, very unrealistic expectations. Anyone with half a brain knows none of the cases solved would even make it to prosecution because Jared and Mel both openly share information with Harper and Zander, which I a huge issues since they openly tell everyone else vital information about the cases being worked. Would probably read more if these were a little more realistic and entertaining, not unrealistic and over the top.

It pains me to give this series a 3 star, especially after a few 4 stars and one 5 star. Still loved the banter and the added ‘thunder stealer’ IYKYK. However it appears to have the same trope ending. Harper and Zander find themselves mixed into the investigation, then they are told to back out, they don’t and find the killer who puts them in danger. I would like once for the police officers to actually solve the case themselves, and her not to be in danger. Also that scene at the dentist office was hilarious and the only reason I’m not giving it a lower ranking. I feel this series has become too predictable but we will see!

Another good read

I was worried when I started the first chapter, that things would be super angsty. However, I was relieved that things remained good where they needed to be.

I like that Jared and Harper have a slowly progressing, healthy dynamic, with lots of honesty. Too many rom com books rely on miscommunication and out right lies to create plot tension, and it drives me nuts!

This is one of the few series/books I have read where the couple is healthy about communicating and I really appreciate it!

another entertaining read by lily harper heart!!
I love the dynamics between all the characters. Harper and Zander are a hoot, even when they are being super dramatic and fighting with each other.Jared is like the perfect guy, even when Harper starts to act like a nut job..
The side characters also make me laugh out loud.. they are just as fun as the main characters.
Now on to the next book in the series!!! lol

Ghostly Worries (A Harper Harlow Mystery book 4 by Lily Harper Hart

This was another winner. I highly recommend all her books and different series. She writes wonderful characters and great murder mysteries. I have read all her different series and loved them all. I had thought this was going to be a really cute series. Each book has been less about the ghost hunting and more about how much banter Harper can have with Zander and lovey-dovey she can be with Jared. The last part when Harper and Zander were under the table was just too much. The same back and forth multiple times and all of it was just plain childish. Not certain I'll continue with the series.

Great story

Love the murder mysteries but I'm wondering how many times Harper has to come really close to dying before she realizes investigating murders is really dangerous.

She is not a cop, going to question a possible murder Suspect alone is stupid. Questioning any possible suspect without anyone knowing where she is and what she is doing is also really dangerous and stupid.

Sorry I like my stories to be believable.

“And all is right with the world,”

So we have an ex boyfriend, a dead body, and a jealous best friend, what more could a girl ask for? Harper is once again in the middle of the action when she finds a dead body. It’s Jared to the rescue, if he can wrap his brain around the ex factor. Super read! Enjoy!!!

Madcap fun

This is chaotic fun! Harper and Jared have a lot to contend with: a murder, a potential relationship snag, and Zander being Zander, for a start. There's plenty of slapstick humor on the way to untangling appropriately placed red herrings and unmasking a killer. The next story should be interesting since a possible BIG new talent is left unexplored...

Good writing

while I still enjoy the story, the squabbling is getting a little old..... I get that it's their thing but it seems like half the story. Perhaps it would be so bad if I didn't read 4 in a row.

Fun mystery

Harper gets her and Zander in danger, again. A new man has come to town. I like his character and the added camaraderie to the group. I hope he stays. I plan to continue reading the series. It's a light fun well written mystery series so why not continue.

Thunder Stealer!

I laughed so hard at Zander on the thunder stealer comment. I'm loving the series. Things are humming along with Harper and Jared, except for the periodic Zander sized bump. Great mystery lots of laughs. Highly recommend. Told from both main characters POV.
