Craig Feigh is a talented Children' Picture Book Author and Speaker. He is most noted for his highly acclaimed LITTLE BIT & BIG BYTE Series incorporating "technology related" characters.
ALL Craig's books are unique in that they are professionally illustrated utilizing vibrant computer graphics, have a hidden object to find on each page, include a B&W coloring page at the end, and teach a life lesson.
Modern day fable for kids. It reminded me of my childhood when I used to read Aesop's fable with animals characters filled with morals for us children. Now times have changed and kids like to use smart phones than to actually read a book. This book is an answer to those who want to make there kids read.
Plot of the book is simple, siblings go on a beach to have fun but their fun turns into travesty when Big Byte gets under influence of Vi and Russ and goes for surfing. What I liked most about it is charcters and illustrations. Each page of the story is illustrated in such a way that it feels like reading a computer screen except it's not. All the characters are part of computer or related to it. Even their pets. And they are all so cute. Sharp edged illustrations were the plus point of the story. Even there is challenge which asked reader to find certain sign in all illustrations made it even more fun. It's really a fun and light read. #BookwithApurva
This is a children's introduction book about cyberspace. Very well made sketches and colours funny characters easy for reading. Children will love and gain knowledge from books like this .
A great introduction to cyberspace for young children with fun characters, exciting pictures and an innovative approach to learning about the world wide web. The tale follows brothers Little Bit and Big Byte as they go for a day trip to the beach with their pets, Click and Browser. They meet their friends and soon begin having fun. Unfortunately, they don't take notice of the important signs warning them of danger and soon become at risk of being harmed. The children enjoyed this book a lot with 70% of them rating it 5 stars. They found the 'bone-finding' aspect fun and loved searching through each page trying to find them. To ensure online safety at our school the children are told that if they see something they don't like they should turn the monitor off (if using a desktop computer) and tell a grown up straight away. This approach has been effective for many years and the children are familiar with it and are happy to do so. They are also made aware that if an advert pops up telling them they should 'click here' and 'win' prizes, they shouldn't because it is most often an opportunity to cause harm to the computer. All children from the age of 4 are taught this and they react well to this approach so this book was great for sparking informative and meaningful conversations about internet safety and the importance of being careful online. Although it's a child friendly book there were occasions when words needed to be clarified for the children to understand which suggests that although it fuelled great conversations to allow further understanding it would prove to be difficult for some children when reading alone.
RA aged 7: I liked when Click was bouncing because it was quite funny for me. Even if the internet can be very fun it can still be very dangerous. TD aged 7: I liked when Browser was playing tricks. AM aged 7: I liked the part where Big Byte, Little Bit and Joy went to the beach because I thought it was good when they were on the surfboard. I didn't like when they were bouncing on the bed because I didn't think it needed to be in the story. MM aged 6: I like when Little Bit and Big Byte jump on the bed because it's really funny. AnM aged 7: I would say that I liked when they went to the beach because it's relaxing at the beach and I like the sea. I didn't like when the sharks went near Big Byte because they would eat him. I learnt that some things aren't suitable for small children so we should never click things that we don't know about. My favourite characters were Browser and Big Byte because Browser was sensible and I liked Big Byte because he was in the waves but he would accidentally click something if he was on the internet which is bad. EJ aged 6: I liked it when Click was jumping on Big Byte because it was funny. YW aged 7: I learnt that when something is dangerous just don't click it because it is not safe.

Today's children are exposed to smartphones, computers, and many other Internet-enabled devices from birth. Children as young as 2 can turn on their parents' phones and navigate to their favorite apps! In this scenario, a book like Little Bit and Big Byte is quite apt.
Illustrations: It is a clever idea to introduce a hidden object game in each page of the book. A bone has been hidden in the picture, and the reader needs to find it. I feel this activity gives the child an added incentive to look closely at the pictures, and consequently think about them more deeply.
Each page is designed to look like a computer screen, so that the reader feels he/she is reading the story on desktop.
I felt the illustrations were slightly busy. Fewer objects in the frame would make it easier for younger children to appreciate the pictures.
My child, who goes to nursery, loved the colorful illustrations, but would get frustrated looking for the bone--possibly because there were too many things happening in a single frame.
Writing/Plot: Quite a lot of technology-related characters are introduced, such as Click, Browser, Joy, Byte, Kay Board, Vi, Russ, and so on. I loved the puns, although I'm not sure younger children will understand it unless explained.
It is a fun story about a day at the beach, building sandcastles, surfing, and playing frisbee--something all children can relate to. A pertinent warning about dangerous viruses trawling the World Wide Web is given in a manner that children will understand and enjoy.
Some pages have more text than the others. This was not an issue for me, but may be visually off-putting for a child. The vocabulary is simple and appropriate for young children. Some difficult words like "nefarious" are explained within the story.
Final Thoughts: This is an informative book suitable for slightly older children (Kindergarten level), who have begun to use the Internet. It will help familiarize them with computer-related terms like browser and click while entertaining them with a fun, relevant story. Parents of younger children can read the book to them, complete with sound effects.
Little Bit & Big Byte: A Day at the Beach Craig T. Feigh
“This book is a fantastic way to tell kids…don’t go surfing if you don’t know how.”
Little Bit & Big Byte: A Day at the Beach by Craig T. Feigh is a colorfully illustrated children’s book depicting love-able characters and their pets that introduces children metaphorically to computers and the dangers of surfing the Web. Creating word pictures, namely, that the Web is much like a huge ocean, parents can use this book as an aid in educating their children about computers and the Internet.
Simple, fun and cute, children will make the connection to the Internet and the main parts of computers with each page. A hidden image of a bone on each page makes the book fun and interactive (secretly my favorite part). With adventure, Little Bit and his crew set out for a day of play at the beach. Little Bit Romie, the main character alongside Click, Browser (the “chip’s” pets) go to the beach with his big brother, Big Byte. Joy, his sister, Kay Board and Webster also join in at the beach to build sandcastles.
With little notice, trouble comes through sly characters Vi and Russ, who are looking to crash any party. The author creates a unique and creative “day at the beach” which is saved by a big wave…thankfully. Memorable and inspiring, this little book will help children understand to surf intelligently and with skilled “know how.”
Children and parents alike will love the illustrations, giving way for parents to teach their kids about computers. The author has presented an ingenious way to speak the dangers of surfing the Web to young children that they will enjoy.
This little book comes highly recommended to all parents when beginning to educate their children about computers, or when school starts children on computers.
“Little Bit & Big Byte” by Craig T. Feigh is an adventure story about two brothers and their sister and their trip to the beach. You meet many “punny” friends along the way and you also learn about internet safety via two strangers at the beach—Vi and Russ. Each page in the book is created to look like a computer keyboard and monitor, so the reader feels as if they are looking at a computer to read the book. The illustrations are detailed and colorful and you get the extra joy of looking for a bone that is hidden in each picture. The flow of the words feels choppy on some pages and almost poetic on others which makes it a bit difficult to read aloud to a child. I would recommend this book for older children who can read and are beginning to use the internet. What attracted me to this book was the "technology-related" slant. It was very creative of the Author to have two Computer Chips as the main characters in a Children's Picture Book. I also like the reference to other computer themes (CD, Joy Stick, World Wide Web, Browser, etc.) as other characters. Make sure to check out the antics of the little Crab. Little Bit & Big Byte have a fun time at the Beach and enter a sandcastle building contest. During the course of their project, the villains (Vi and Russ) challenge them to go surfing. Taking the dare, Little Bit & Big Byte get swept out to sea and almost lose their lives were in not for huge wave that sends them crashing to the shore. We learn a lesson about the dangers of "surfing the world wide web" in a colorful way as the illustrations are professionally done. Some of the terminology is for older children, but ALL ages will enjoy finding the hidden bone on each page (I know I did) and coloring the Black & White addition at the end.
Though I'm not a kid,I was interested to read the book because of the attractive cover(I know it's not fare to judge a book with its cover). When I finished the book,I felt amazed. It is literally a great way to get introduced with the functions of computer for kids. The way it depicts the works of various computer related devices or computer virus, you'll really be impressed. All the characters here and their functions in real are arranged and described so well.Personally when I first started to learn about the computer related terms and functions,it was not so interesting. But if the children read the book, they will get a primary knowledge about the things, besides they will be interested in the things. Moreover this book contains some additional features which will surely amuse the children like a brain game and picture coloring. There are several books for the kids out there. Then why should one particularly read this book? The answer is,this will not only give pleasure to you, you'll get a lot of educational things to learn. As per my opinion, this book can easily be included in the school textbook list for kids. The illustrations, the style of writing, everything is perfect as it should be in a book for kids.Lastly I must congratulate the author to write an interesting educational storybook, which can satisfy all readers along with kids. Also the illustrator must be praised for making the book attractive. However there is a sequel of the book which is more interesting.Whoever reads it should try that also.
Very cute story that utilized computing terminology for names of the characters and situations. The graphics are crisp and paper very nice. I read it to a younger grandson attached to this account, but the elements of idioms are still a bit above the comprehension of lower grades students and some middle school students, unless they are highly familiar with computer terms. The idioms would be interesting for those who are familiar with computer terms, but then the short, simplistic story would not hold the interest of older and would therefore not be considered reading material for their required level reading lists.
I would encourage the author to perhaps instead target possibly middle school age with a graphic novel (or chapter book) with longer, more complicated story line concentrating on two to three characters introduced at a time with subject matters including "Bullying, hygiene, diet (body image), making friends, avoiding danger etc.. Ram=Bully, Click = falling for click-bait (something that isn't what it seems), Kay-Board struggles with body image, etc.. Trojan = how to protect oneself from gun violence.
If targeting younger grades, keeping with sight word lists and shorter passages is paramount, and also insuring the student can read or it be read to them within the 20min read national program.
Craig T. Feigh brings a delightful story to life with his computer related characters. What a great way for kids to learn a little more about the intricacies of the computer world! I read this story aloud to my boys, and they loved it! Vi and Russ are two of the notorious characters, and if you are not careful, they can get you into a lot of trouble! Little Bit and Big Byte are looking for some fun at the beach, but they just might find more than they bargained for!
Absolutely delightful, and a fun read! If your kids are interested in computers, or you are looking to introduce them to the world of technology, then you need to start here. The illustrations are fabulous, and this book held my kids attention the entire way through! They wanted to know what happened next! Definitely looking forward to the next book by Mr. Feigh!
Little Bit Romie lives in Cyberville. His father is CD and his mother is Nettie. He has a big brother named Big Byte and a little sister called Joy, who is as thin as a stick. Basically, this is a story, a quite imaginative one, about computer and technology.
One day at the beach, they're meant to have fun, but something's happened. They got their lesson about meeting strangers (they might want to harm you) and taking risks (you have to understand the risk before taking it).
The story is simple and fun. The pet characters are really amusing with their silliness. But the point of view is a little odd because the using of the first-person and third-person is confusing.
I love the illustrations. They're attractive with pretty sharp colours. The pages' layouts appeared like computer screen, that matches the theme.
This Children's Book unlike others in the same genre belongs to 'today', the new world. The fairy tales and supermans are a passe and capture the fantasy of kids, but this one tweaks the real things into imagination plus makes them learn on the go!
The world inside computers, the names of characters, their descriptions are all so relatable for the kids. Somethings which they listen and see day in and day out. All characters are described to make kids learn about their features and uses.
Parents can very well use this book to impart the basic knowledge of the technology. This book very cautiously and carefully creates and places itself in this new genre of Children Book/Literature. The story is basic but weaves the imagination without making it feel awkward to relate to the real world.
As an adult, I loved reading it and would definitely recommend!
Little Bit & Big Byte: A Day at the Beach is a picture book that's meant to both entertain and inform. Directed at kindergarteners, it follows Bit Romie, his older brother Byte, and little sister Joy as they spend a day at the beach. If it isn't obvious yet, they all live in Cyberville, inside your computer!
Craig T. Feigh does a good job spinning together a fun tale while introducing beginners to parts of the computer. It's easy to follow, keeps you interested and is a super quick read. I was impressed. This does a far better job of informing kids about computers than the drab school books they are often assigned.
Also, I absolutely loved the illustrations by Patrick Carlson. They are full of life and will never let you take your eyes off the pages! There's also an additional black and white page at the end that children can color in!

Educative, entertaining and fun is how I would summarise the book. 'Little Bit and Big Byte' has a contemporary theme - a story where characters and situations are named after computer parts.
My children had a good time looking for the image of the bone 'hidden' in each picture. The illustrations are delightful, very colourful and cheerful.
When it came to reading aloud the text, I felt that it was difficult to understand the story or to grasp the puns. It's good for an adult with a working knowledge of computers but children need help to fully grasp the story.
The best part: it has a moral for the readers without being preachy.
Pick this book for the lively illustrations and to give your children a headstart on certain computer related terminology.
I recommend Little Bit & Big Byte: A Day at the Beach to everyone from 2- 102.
Little Bit & Big Byte: A Day at the Beach is the first children’s book I have seen that introduces young ones to the terms and concepts of computer use.
The story is wonderfully written and illustrated. The characters are engaging and well developed for such a short story. Parents can subtly re-enforce concepts like unsupervised surfing, viruses, peer pressure and more.
There is a hidden dog bone on every page, what a fun little tidbit for kids and parents.
Little Bit & Big Byte: Go Green is the next book in this series. You can’t go wrong with these stories from Craig T. Feigh.
Little bit and big byte is a short pictorial children's book. Specially good for upper kindergarten going children who has some knowledge on computer hardware and technology. This book depicts an adventurous story of Little bit romie who lives in cyberville along with his parents and elder brother named Big byte and a younger sister named joy. Their pets that introduces children metaphorically to computers and the perils of surfing the web. All the characters of this book are well illustrated. I had fun reading the book. I am rating this book with four stars. Thanks to the author for writing such an amazing technology related book for children as well as for their parents.
This fun little story is an easy read and introduces us to Little Bit, Big Byte and their friends. There's even a game of "find the bone" hidden among the illustrations. I was given a copy of this book for free, in exchange for my honest review, and I was delighted by the characters. The only thing I would have changed is that I would have made this an anti-bullying story, but I'm hoping the author will possibly use the same characters and do that in the future. The second book, Little Bit and Big Byte, Go Green teaches children how to recycle, and it is evident that the author is improving, but this one still warrants a five star rating for creativity.
This book suits the millenial kids well because it's relatable. Even as an adult, I find it cool. Utilizing the computer-based words, the fun pun, a witty humor, but still presented in great illustration, provided with not only adventure, but also moral values.
From ESL/EFL point of view, I believe this book is still the right choice. For children, for adult. It's still a great reading. Not only it uses simple words (so it'd be easy to understand), it also offers vocabulary input.
There'd be the sequel to the series. I cannot wait to see it already.
Little Bit and Big Byte: A Day at The Beach is fascinating. The illustration is colourfull, even adult like me found it very attractive. The characters are computer-related that close to children's life nowadays. What makes it different is in every page, we must find a hidden picture or logo. I found it interesting because we are not only read the story but also challenge ourself to find the hidden logo. The story is located in a town called Cyberville. Little Bit has mum and dad called Nettie and CD. It also has big brother named Big Byte and little sister named Joy. They go to the beach because Click and Browser, his dog and cat are chasing the birds there. When they arrive, there is a sandcastle contest, so Little Bit, Big Byte and Joy decide to join the contest to make friends. Kay Board and Webster are their new friends. Then, Click point towards the two little bugs, Vi and Russ. They are going surfing at the danger area. Big Byte and Kay Board insist to join them although Little Bit and Joy have warned them. What will happen to Big Byte and Kay Board? You are able to find the answer on the book!
Very cute story with wonderful illustrations. The characters have clever, fun names and well-developed at the beginning. I also love how the author has included a hidden image on each page to keep younger children engaged in the story. This is an imaginative way to learn about the inner workings of a computer. I especially enjoyed how Vi and Russ caused trouble. The only reason I am giving it 4 out of 5 stars is because I thought the ending was too abrupt. I wish the author had expanded a little more on the lesson that the characters learned from their surfing experience.
This book is so cute and very well draw. This book is a little average into the beach with little bit and he's big brother, little sister and with their pets.
It's very well written for little kids and the children will laugh and their will love this book.
You must pick up this book if you have little children and have reading time with them. The kids will love it and you as well.
We received a free copy as winners of a Goodreads giveaway. I read it to my 7 and 5 year olds. They loved taking turns finding the bones, and it has a lot of computer terms throughout the books. It's a lot of info that probably went over my kid's heads, but as we read it more and they get more familiar with computer lingo, this will be a fun book to practice terms and talk about what each of those names (byte, browser, etc) means in relation to computers.
Interesting concept of making computer terminology fun for children while warning of the dangers of surfing the web. The illustration was good, the pun and witty humour were nice. But when I read it to my 5-year old son, he couldn't relate with it beyond the terminology. the concept of seeking out a bone on each page did hold his attention though so I would say that was a clever way to keep kids involved. It was an easy read to well done to the author.
As a computer science student who has a little sister that finds it hard to understand what her older sibling does; I enjoyed reading this book with her a lot. It’s very interesting and introduces children to the world of technology in a fun way! The illustrations are super cute and creative. And we loved the idea of the hidden bone on each page! Made reading the book even more fun.
The book is amazing for children. I like the concept of the story . The illustration are cute and colorful gives excitement for the children. And it has a moral lesson too! Overall, I like the book and highly recommended for teachers who are involve in teaching children.
This would be a fun book for kids, especially those who would be into computers. Great illustrations, fun extra things like a bone to find on the page and a crazy crab. There is a lesson in the book as well. I think kids would enjoy it.
This is a cute story, but I doubt younger children with get the many puns. Still, it is appropriate for children of all ages and middle schoolers and teens will love the puns.
A bit confusing to read on a tablet. The picture comes first the next page is the story. I rather read a story then look at the picture that was read. My first Little Bit & Big Byte book. I most likely won’t get another in the series.
I would recommend this book to children learning about the internet. It's a fresh and funny way to introduce various topics such as Vi and Russ (virus).
