Three stars. Wasn't great, wasn't terrible. Sorry for the short review but my house is burning down and I'm currently on fire.

This book came in with a number of donations to Heirloom Books in Chicago where I work as manager. Having followed UFO literature for years, I gave it a read. That was easy enough, the book being just a series of events roughly arranged by theme (dangerous UFOs, abductions, etc.). It became the bedtime book for a few days, an appropriate role as it was rather soporific, the writing style(s) pedestrian and journalistic.
Although slanted a bit towards British cases through the early eighties, there's some effort to indicate the global scope of the phenomena. Most of the accounts are familiar to anyone acquainted with the literature. Most of the accounts are better presented elsewhere. Again, reading this was like reading brief newspaper clippings. No original work appears to have been done, no research, no critical examination--no recommendation.
Although slanted a bit towards British cases through the early eighties, there's some effort to indicate the global scope of the phenomena. A quick read. Interesting.
Most of the stories (or statements) I have heard about before, but there were a few that are new to me:
I knew that there was a failure with a certain communications satellite called the Satcom 3. That it completely disappeared from radar as if plucked from orbit and left no debris from any sort of explosion if it did happen to explode? NASA isn't saying much and some people behind the scenes are implying that a UFO grabbed it to possibly study how far humans are in advanced technology. The Russians had a satellite, the Molniya, also go missing.
There have been dead pilots recovered or disappeared without a trace after run-ins with UFOs (USAF Capt. Thomas Mantell and Lt. Felix Moncla are used as two examples).
And the tale of a Norwegian sailor, Olaf Jansen, being taken underground to live within the Earth for two years...
Even though the book is almost 30 years old, for people interested in decent collections of UFO mysteries do try and locate a copy. Best of all is it doesn't dwell on Roswell all that much like a majority of UFO books tend to do.
Like most people, I'm still waiting for full disclosure from the Govern'mental' folks and the unofficial Meet & Greet BBQ & Kegger... ;-)
And no, I have not seen an UFO (though I sure would like to). Have seen a couple ghosts but that is another tale for another time.

An authentic summary of UFO sightings by distinguished people who do not aspire for Fame, Money or Media Coverage; as they have already earned it all when they had the sighting with other witnesses as well!! Good overall effort in compilation and explanation of facts. A good record for reference.

Um livro datado, destinado aos mais curiosos sobre o tema, que nos permite, à luz do desenvolvimento atual e dos dados que vão surgindo sobre este assunto apaixonante. Uma compilação temática que possibilita, passado o tempo, o estudo comparativo com notícias e dasos publicados posteriormente. Um livro importante ao nível da divulgação.

Some sound plausible, and some sound too far-fetched. I honestly don't know what to believe, but as the book says — "One thing is for sure, we're being observed from outer space."

A pretty good book about UFO & Alien encounters, plus some stories that don't quite fall into either category, but are included for whatever reason.
I thought I'd already read this previously, as UFOs & Aliens seem a pretty popular subject covered by "World's Greatest" books, but turns out I haven't. And I hadn't actually read about maybe half/60% of the stories within, which was equally amazing and much welcomed by me.
The stories both look and sound like something you'd find in the tabloids, I. E. usually pretty short in length & depth with attention grabbing headlines, which is a notable feature of books from this publication.
I enjoyed reading the most detailed story of "The Tunguska Incident", Robert Loosley's curious nighttime encounter - which I'd only heard about previous from a UFO audio cassette of all things! and also the alleged wrecked UFO above The Earth's orbit, first reported by the Russians in the 1960s, which I've only ever read in one other UFO book previously.
Some attempt has been made to arrange the stories/encounters over 9 different sections, but when reading through them all, you don't really notice all that many differences.
Definitely chapter 3 - which covers historical oddities stands out the most, as this has quite a few things that maybe shouldn't be in here. Such as Spring-heeled Jack, mysterious rains and maybe even the village in Canada that entirely disappeared. All of this is probably here for padding, even though, they are interesting in their own right.
There are also some pictures of UFOs and even an alleged Alien, but the ink is so dark and the paper quality is so bad that you can't hardly make out anything at all, and on the pages with 5 separate UFO pictures they weren't tagged very well, but I'd seen them so many times before that I knew which was which, but others may not.
But my gripes overall are very few. This is a very fun read and a good reference book, but I'd say it's probably more recommended to novices of UFOs/Ufology rather than more well-read individuals.

This was the book that inspired little-kid-me to want to become an alien-hunter-slash-conspiracy-theorist. Loved this book back then.

I found this to be one of the best books about UFOs.
