As you may have noticed, I just use this entry as a placeholder for any novel-length fic I read (~50k words or longer) that doesn’t have a Goodreads entry already.

2/22: I keep promising myself I’m going to read some published books next but goddammit the fic in this fandom is so good SO YEAH I guess I’ll just keep reading hockey romance novels for the foreseeable future. the 82k fake-dating emotional slow burn fic I just finished might be one of the best pieces of fic I’ve ever read and WAHHHH my HEART. I keep yelling “GOD!! THE JUNK DRAWER!!” aloud to myself in my apartment when I think of the final scenes. I cannot believe that people produce these gorgeous novels for free, just as like, a love offering to the fandom. TO ME PERSONALLY, IT FEELS LIKE.

2/28: stayed up way too late finishing this gorgeous and painfully tender 78k coming-of-age / coming out fic. I’ve been reading a lot of romance plots but this one was intriguingly (and refreshingly) more of a deep character study. it was so moving and good. no regrets about how tired I’ll be at work tomorrow.

3/3: as a birthday gift to myself I stayed up very late rereading one of my favorite 100k fics. so good!
3/6: 55k x-men crossover hockey AU (plus a bunch of assorted 8-12k fics)

3/19: after taking a break to freak out over what’s happening in real life right now, I’m back on my hockey bullshit! just finished the most stunningly gorgeous 55k canon fic. god there’s nothing I crave / connect with more than that internalized homophobia coming-of-age angst, and this was a GOOD one. hurt my heart a bit 😕

3/22: finished a gorgeous, dreamlike postwar Harry/Draco fic (~20k) along with maybe a dozen 5-8k hockey fics. I’m going to see if I can ease back into reading published fiction this week with Woolf’s Between the Acts—I think the last couple weeks I haven’t had the attention span/emotional bandwidth to read much besides fic.

3/25: uh maybe I should start a new book entry to keep track of these? anyway I’m rereading Linsky’s wolves in the NHL verse for the millionth time because it’s Perfect and I crave the escapism. tonight I read the 76k alex/dylan one. it was great.

3/29: 67k WIP that I will not be offering further details on bc I’m embarrassed I read it and embarrassed that I enjoyed it 😂
3/30: oh just read the wolves in the nhl 45k tyler one for probably the 20th time

4/4: 45k jamie POV wolves in the nhl

4/11: jfc just finished a time travel fic and I feel like I got punched in the throat GODDDD my fucking HEART

4/15: reread the time travel fic because why not and then went back and reread another 60k fic by the same writer. will my brain be able to read anything that isn’t fanfic by the time quarantine ends? tbd

4/17: 70k hockey fic that was really just about growing up gay in the evangelical Christian Midwest. definitely didn’t experience A LOT OF FEELINGS about this fic or anything!!

4/24: very long Harry Potter fic (returning to my roots)
4/25: oh man I did nothing but read fic today - 50k friends to lovers; 30k ot3; a handful of 15k fics

5/1: 95k hockey canon fic
5/2: assorted shorter fics (80k in all)
5/5: 70k hockey fic
5/10: 78k hockey fic (accidental bond)

6/11: ah shit I forgot to update this. umm 50k mafia AU plus a bunch more I’ve forgotten now

6/25: omg just finished a 220k fic that was basically, uh, a really epic version of little house on the prairie but with hockey men. zero regrets it was amazing.


7/28/23: ahahah I had no idea I was keeping such a detailed list for a while there????? in 2020 maybe???
anyway just reopened this because I read the little house on the prairie AU again. Excellent as always.
