When I began reading this book that had been read by over a million others since its first publication in 1990, I was unimpressed after reading the preface and introduction. But it was good that I continued reading. By the time I got to chapter five and the revelation of the author’s Seven Realities of Experiencing God, I determined that this was not only one of the best books I’ve read on the Christian life, but one of the best books I’ve ever read. Even in my old age I have found a new and refreshing relationship with the living God that brings excitement and great joy to my life. More so it has given me a strong commitment to knowing and obeying my Lord by the power of His Holy Spirit—something impossible in my own strength. Not only that, but I have made adjustments in my life to find new ways to serve in the body of Christ. And I am strengthened by Scripture knowing where my strength comes from as given in Isaiah 41:10:

“Fear not, for I am with you;
Be not dismayed, for I am your God.
I will strengthen you,
Yes, I will help you,
I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.”

In his closing remarks the author expresses his hope that his reader has come to a deep sense of God’s presence and activity in his or her life. “That is the heart of the book—to move you from merely being religious to having a vibrant, real, growing (love) relationship with God (thru Jesus Christ).” Note: I added the words in parenthesis to even be more personal. As for me it can be said, Yes and Amen! Ephesians 3:16-21

I leave you with this quote to consider that it may lead you to read the book in its entirety:

“Created for Eternity, Not for Time

God did not create you for time; He created you for eternity. Our lifetime on earth provides the opportunity for you to become acquainted with Him and to choose to enter a relationship with Him. Time is a period during which God wants to develop your character into His likeness. Then eternity will have its fullest dimensions for you.

If you merely live for time, you will miss the ultimate purpose of creation. If you live for time, you will allow your past to control and limit your life today. Your life as a child of God ought to be shaped by the future (what you will ultimately be). God uses your present to mold and shape your future here on earth and throughout eternity.”

There is also a study workbook to accompany this book and I intend on working thru it…

Ehh.. not a horrible read. It seemed to be repetitive at times. It also resembles some other books that I’ve read.
