Really enjoyable book, detailing the early years in Mbappe football career. If there is one negative it would be that Mbappe is young and in the early stages of his career, Mbappe will play football (if he stays injury free) for the next 10 years, so this book does not give a career story on Mbappe. Thus said reading about Mbappes early years is brilliants, feels like chapter 1, 2, 3 from a larger book that will eventually cover his all career. Thus said, I loved this book, again well written, short chapters that makes you want to keep going and read the next chapter. Great book, just sometimes think that it is better to write books about football once they have completed their career, because you are not getting the entire story of their career. Well worth a read. Editorial standards are excellent. Adictive book, you will not want to put it down once you pick it up.

Mbappe is a hard working, devoted professional footballer, now world renowned. As his life as a child is described by Matt and Tom Oldfield, one thing jumps out at the reader. Phones. As explained in Mbappe’s Biography, “Mbappe is an example of discipline in a world where screens captivate more than training.” This type of sentence is emphasised many times during the length of the book. In today's modern world, screens are so relied on, they become the drug of the 21st century. We should all learn from Mbappe about this, as his drive to be better is so overpowering that phones and screentime become irrelevant. These days, not only kids such as Mbappe was, but also adults are so attached to their mindless scrolling and various fancy functions on their screens that their motivation to stay active is close to zero. The successful, world class athletes seem so out of reach, but all they did was force their phones away and go train. It seems so simple, but such a small number of people, such as Mbappe, can actually separate from their screens. As Dr. Shermaine once said, “Your cell phone is a prison cell. The world outside is freedom. Set your bars down.”

For many, mental strength is the same as hard work, but in fact, during this book it is proven that they are two completely different things. Translated loosely from French, this is how Matt and Tom Oldfield understand Kylian Mbappe’s mental struggles; “Kylian is doing his best to improve, but his coach's comments are starting to get to him. At this rate, he's worried Monaco won't even offer him a professional contract at the end of his training. He's talking to Jires about it because he knows he understands his frustration. “All you can do is ignore what's hurting you and keep working hard,” his big brother advises. “You'll see, everything will work out in the end.” Although Mbappe is extremely hard working, this proves that his mental strength is sometimes not good enough to reach your physical goals, which is important to know when you set a goal yourself. Always remember to mentally prepare and practice, as it is proven by Kylian’s big brother that a physical goal requires a strong mentality.

In summary, always try to force yourself out of your addictive screens, as the reward is definitely worth it. When you do, remember that mental strength is as vital as physical strength. Phones themselves can actually sap your mentality, and multiple researches prove that screens can actually hinder your mental capabilities. Essentially, this means the more you go on your phone and think, “I’ll do that tomorrow”, the more you are caught in an endless downward spiral of phone addiction. If that happens, try to force yourself out of your phone, and remember, if Kylian Mbappe can do it, so can I.
