Harper Harlow #5

Ghostly Images

Rate this book
Harper Harlow has ghosts coming out of her ears (thankfully not literally). Suffice it to say she’s got a lot on her plate, though. Between her regular jobs at Ghost Hunters, Inc. – and the secret her best friend Zander appears to be keeping – she has her hands full.
Things only become more complicated when one of Whisper Cove’s oldest residents comes knocking on the police department’s door. It seems Annette Fleming decided to do some cleaning and while in the attic she found some photographs of a dead body, and she has no idea who the victim is or when she died.
Jared Monroe is at a loss when it comes to the photos so he asks his girlfriend for help. Harper is only too happy to oblige – until the mystery they uncover starts spinning out of control. It’s not just about who the victim is or why she was killed. It’s about a tangled web of lies that spans decades and involves multiple people with convoluted motives.
Despite the fact that the murder was committed decades before, Harper finds her future in jeopardy from an enemy she didn’t see coming. If that’s not enough, Zander’s secret threatens to shake Harper to her very core … and the truth is something that might change their friendship forever.
It’s all hands on deck for another wacky ride. Whether everyone survives to enjoy the final stop is anybody’s guess.

I love these stories!

I love these stories! The characters are amazing if I had to complain about anything it would just be that the two main characters mention 'hitting the entry's too much for comfort. It's an everyday all the time thing at times but I guess that's what happens in New relationships but besides that and it's a personal preference I love everything about these and can't wait to see what other books the author has to offer.

The drama continues

There are times when the drama between Zander and Harlow is cute. In this book it is decidedly strange and went on a bit too long. Hopefully, with some of the new developments this will tone down again to merely cute tension between best friends. It is starting to be a bigger distraction from the mystery at hand than the oversweet stuff between Harper and Jared which thankfully is approaching normal levels in this book. Otherwise, the mystery had interesting moments and a surprise unveiling which was pretty good.

Another solid installment in the adventures of Harper. Ms Hart's series is consistently fun and enjoyable with lively, lovable characters. Zander needs a spin-off, though.

The story itself was OK.

I felt like the culprit was just kind of thrown in... the investigation meant nothing because all the players were not known until the end.

Once we met the actual culprit, it was fairly obvious. I prefer mysteries to be just that- a mystery.

There was a childish backstory between Harper and Zander... honestly, you're almost 30, grow up.

Jared continued being passive aggressive and treating Harper like a child (and to be fair, she acted like one).

I keep reading because at this point, I have invested all this time... I need there to be some development in the next coming books, or I am out.

A poltergeist, a ghost and a secret..

Annette "Old Lady" Fleming walks into the station with photographs of what appears to be a dead body and hands them to Mel and Jared. They have little to go on and Mel sends Jared to continue searching the elderly lady's attic just in case there's any more clues.

Sensibly Jared enlists Harper's help and the pair don't just find a ghost but a pile of bones that match. Tess Hillard had a bit of a reputation, 30 years ago it was assumed she'd up and left with a new man, sadly she got no further than the wood behind the Fleming house.. but was she murdered or was it a tragic accident.. Tess isn't talking to Harper and there's very little evidence.

GHI are called out to deal with a ghost, Dorothy, haunting a barn.. the situation is crazy and the team will need to plan this one carefully as Dorothy has a heck of a rage built up. Poltergeists take anger to new extremes and someone will get slimed in the process of sending her on her way.

Meanwhile Zander's got a secret and Harper's about to go postal!! He's never hidden anything from Harper and she's not just angry she's hurt that he would hide something this important.. the row is epic but can Jared keep her calm and reasonable so Zander can explain..

So much fun!

Harper sees ghosts. She stopped caring about what others thought and opened a ghost hunter business with her bestie, Zander. Enter Jared, the new detective in town who doesn't believe in anything he can't see. Of course, sparks fly when they meet over a dead body.

I absolutely love the characters in this book. Harper is awesome - strong in that she doesn't let anyone else tell her what to do or how to live her life, but vulnerable in that her only true friend is Zander, who she both lives and works with. Zander is absolutely ridicilous (and seriously loveable), but 100% pro-Harper, no matter what. They are joined at the hip, and anyone entering into a relationship with either has to accept that. Jared figures that out, and actually does pretty well at accepting Zander's position in Harlow's life. Every one of the side characters are also great, well developed and multi-dimensional.

Episode 5: This time it's an old body, and therefore old ghost, that turns up. Is anyone telling the truth of happened 25 years ago? And why is Zander avoiding Harper?

Highly entertaining paranormal cozy mystery series

This is a highly entertaining paranormal cozy mystery series. Great cast of characters and an entertaining storyline. Harper Harlow is a young woman who lives in northern Michigan in a small town and she can also see and talk to ghost. Along with her childhood friend Xander they run a ghost hunting business where they help Spirits crossover and clear locations of ghosts poltergeist etc. Her boyfriend is Jared a local detective and his partner is Xander’s uncle. They always seem to somehow find their way into investigations of local crimes especially murders as Harper can see the ghosts when it happens. It is a fun and entertaining story with lots of twists and turns in fun mystery. The cast of characters that you will fall in love with and enjoy reading about. Check it out

There is only one really irritating thing about this author that you'll notice after a few books...

All the characters "still" at every dramatic moment. The author needs to find some new descriptive words.

Since I don't normally write reviews unless I have something specific to say, here's the break down of how I rate my books...

1 star... This book was bad, so bad I may have given up and skipped to the end. I will avoid this author like the plague in the future.

2 stars... This book was not very good, and I won't be reading any more from the author.

3 stars... This book was ok, but I won't go out of my way to read more, But if I find another book by the author for under a dollar I'd pick it up.

4 stars... I really enjoyed this book and will definitely be on the look out to pick up more from the series/author.

5 stars... I loved this book! It has earned a permanent home in my collection and I'll be picking up the rest of the series and other books from the author ASAP.

Love!

I REALLY enjoyed this! Not for the mystery, which is a little grimy, but because the unnatural relationship between Jared, Harper, and Zander has finally come to a head. Jared mans up and forces Harper to acknowledge where her choices regarding the two most important men in her life may lead, and Harper accepts it like a woman instead of choosing her childishly defensive default. YAY! I'm hoping to be able to finally enjoy the imaginative writing and quirky interactions without having to fight the desire to slap Zander and and everyone who allows him to get away with his arrogance!

Ghostly Images -A Harper Harlow Mystery Book 5

This segment of Harpers , Jareds and Zanders story gives us a whole lot of drama. Starring Zander and Harlow! Jared gets his part in as well. We are introduced to some new characters. Some really new and some really old. Okay a ghost. Lots of town secrets come out. All this happens during the fight of the century between our friends Har and Zan. We uncover a murder. Had no idea till the end who it was. One new character I believe is going to be a keeper. Lots of twists and turns. A great new episode. Gonna start the next one right now.

If this book had ended about halfway through I would have given it 3-stars, maybe even 2. Luckily the author pulled it out and "fixed" all of the childish issues and petty @#%$ between the Harper and Zander. There was absolutely nothing to love - or even like - about that entire situation. Having Jared sit down and hammer it out with her saved the book. And, for me, further reading in the series. The overriding mystery was almost lost in all the drama and pretty abruptly closed. It's nice to have Shawn join the group. I'm certain that will balance things even better.

Another almost 2 star, see my rant in my last review. Harper always ends up in danger at the very end of the book and the cops aren’t the ones that ever solve the case. Also, her issues with Zander was very lame and added for drama but the reason this isn’t a 2 is again the authors knowledge about her characters. They are steady and consistent. However I am getting tired of the same ending over and over again. If it doesn’t change next book I may mark it a two star and aide the series for a while.

Ghosts & Murder, What Could Be Better??!!

Just like the author, I too, like to escape into fiction & must have a happy ending. Lily Harper Hart never disappoints. She throws in suspense, romance, & a great story line - oh, & ghosts!! I love the ever evolving relationships of Harper & Jared, Harper & Zander, & even Jared & Zander! There are laughs & lots of surprises this time around. Definitely a fun read.

One review said they are just fully reading now because they've spent so much time reading that they don't want to feel they've wasted their time. That's exactly how I feel.

Once again: book starts with them capturing a ghost and horrible banter that is so annoying at this point. Immature drama from almost 30 year old people. Then a life or death moment at the end for Harper.

I skimmed this entire book and still knew what was happening. 🙄

An old murder and a new member of the troupe

An old woman brings in some old photographs of a dead body. While Harper helps Jared investigate, she sees a ghost who brings her to the body. Meanwhile, Harper finds out Zander is keeping a secret - a man he has been dating without talking to Harper about him. Major drama. The odd (but hilarious) triple becomes a quartet.

“I know that I adore her.”

When a woman finds old pictures of what looks to be a murdered woman, Jared is tasked with trying to find out who she is and what happened to her. Of course, there’s a ghost so that means there’s Harper. Can they figure out who did it before Harper winds up in danger again? Great read! Enjoy!!!

Lots of mysteries

This book had more to solve, makes it fun. Zander is so over the top, hope S can real him on a smidgen. Main mystery was good. Looks like the dynamic in the core relationships is changing. For the better. Enjoyed this series, definitely recommend. Told from Jared and Harper's POV.

Good read

Book 5 has humor, mystery, a cold case murder, a few suspects, and an uncooperative ghost. Add in another ghost and a poltergeist and the chaos begins. Zander has a secret and Harper is pissed, and Jared is caught in the middle. This author really knows how to write snarky paranormal. Highly entertaining.

Good mystery

Harper is at it again. She tries to help but she puts their lives in danger. I like the change in Zander's life. It's something different to the former duo turned trio.

A cold case mystery

I really enjoyed the story of this book. We got to know a new character and see Jared and Harper actually work more closely together. This had me going back and forth trying to figure out who killed Tess and was pleasantly surprised it was not who I thought.

Xander is keeping secrets. A woman drops off photographs of a dead woman she found while cleaning her attic. It's a 25 years old missing case. No cliffhanger and happy for now. Good funny mystery series.

Hatred twists humans so far out of alignment and death becomes the only, worst option! It is good that truth will out, at the end. And something good was left behind. Lily is truthful about her determination to avoid sad endings! Thank you Lily Hart!
