Fredrik Diem helplessly watches the love of his life being brainwashed to fall in love with someone else. The United States became the Community, a government which always knows what is best for citizens. The Community created a paradise that was perfectly balanced, racially, sexually, and with a perfectly equal distribution of income. The Community decides everything, what people eat, where they live, what job they work at, and even... who they love. When Fredrik and Laura first arrive there from New Zealand, they are amazed and excited. But then, Laura begins to change. Every night she is programmed, little by little, to love Fredrik less and less, and to fall in love with a seductress named Mary Elizabeth. At the same time, Fredrik is being slowly reprogrammed to fall out of love with Laura, and to fall in love with a sensual older woman named Madeline. Every night, during SleepTalk, Fredrik and Laura lose a little more of their love for each other, as sinister mind control techniques are used to make them irresistibly attracted to partners chosen by the Community, not themselves.Fredrik wakes up and realizes what is being done to them. He fights to win Laura back. But is it too late? This book has a number of scenes of men and women being seduced in explicit ways.
Brave New World is one of my favorite books. I like what the author did here and found the ideas very interesting and thought provoking. Using now and push all the “if we let gays marry that will leads to animals or more” arguments really go all the way. The bestiality was hard to take and not just once but over and over really disgusting. I get it, eating the dead no longer is that provocative, so did for shock value. Was revolting. There are warnings here and there as we lose the freedoms around us this book does make one ponder how far trump and his ilk will go. Something less destructive then Fox News is featured prominently here as a sleep brainwashing tool and would be hard to know where reality stops if really got this far. Read if you like good sexual encounters, but would be 4-5 stars if didn’t have so much animal abuse.
Not much of a story. Mostly just a long diatribe by the author against every left wing thing he can think of, dragged out with several extremely long and repetitive seduction scenes.
I can’t tell how seriously this book is meant to be taken. On one hand, the situations are too absurd to be taken seriously in any way, but they are also too hamfisted to be funny, at least to me. It does have a joke about goofy names, but after the first couple of times, the joke gets old quick.
From reading this I learned that liberals are pro-bestiality and that environmentalism is dumb. Sorry, but I just don’t think that that is a deep insight on any level. The views on social justice extremes were occasionally interesting to think about, but this book is way too long and all of the interesting ideas could have been condensed.
I do like some of his other books but this one fell flat for me, I’m sorry to say.
Simplistic writing. The author depicts a future a few hundred years from now that some would like to see develop tomorrow. These same Social Justice Warriors and arbiters of peace, environmental, political correctness, racial equality, etc. will gladly kill anyone that disagrees with them. Don't want to create a spoiler review but if the way things are trending bothers you read this. It will make you laugh and give you the sads. Love the name creations. Reminds me of a 60's hippie drug flashback.
