Baby Gravy

Rate this book
It's been four years since I saw my best friend's sister.

Back then, I wasn't ready for forever -- and Autumn wanted one thing: a bun in the oven.
Now, I'm home from the Marines and am ready to give her everything she craves.
I'm hungry as hell and it's time for our second helping at love.
When I join her family for Thanksgiving dinner, she wasn't expecting me to be there.
And she comes with a date.
I missed out on giving her what she wanted last time -- I won't make the same mistake twice.
I'm not leaving this holiday without giving her my baby gravy.
She knows she wants it: thick and creamy and finger lickin' good.
The season's about gratitude, right?
Well, I'll give my girl a reason to thank God I'm back in town.

Dear Reader,
I saved the juiciest piece for you!
This one is deliciously insane and a little more punny than you're used to.
Don't worry, this lil' story will make that drive to your in-laws as sweet as candied yams and sexier than basting that bird!
XO, frankie

Trying to get my Jessa Kane/Alexa Riley fix with this short novella 😬😬😬😬 massive miss though! The spice was so cringe I was laughing maniacally.

when he said “Her lips are like pillows of mashed potatoes”

when she’s thinking about their future Thanksgivings and he says “I’m the one who can give you the real gravy, Autumn.”

that’s legitimately funny.

I’ve tried reading from this author before but I just don’t think we’re are match.

Some of the similes were just too much for me. See an example;

"Her lips are like pillows of mashed potatoes. Fluffy and warm. I kiss her soft, knowing my girl has been hurt enough by me already, and the last thing she needs right now is for me to go rough.

Her lips part, and her tongue finds mine and I melt like butter against her. "

Just too many food references for me. 2.5 star rating. This book just wasn't for me. But, it was a short and sweet drama free thanksgiving story.

Extra Serving of Blessings

I liked this but not as much as other books by Frankie Love. This Thanksgiving has extra servings of blessings and toasts being given. It's a crazy, over-the-top quick read. Russet returns to town with an agenda - win back Autumn's heart. It doesn't matter that she walks in with another guy.

Continuing on my reading spree of clearing books off my devices and focusing on quick reads, I next decided to read Baby Gravy by Frankie Love. Frankie Love happens to be an author I really enjoy as more often than not her book characters have this genuine feel about them and you know they really love and care for one another and are nice people that you as the reader can't help but cheer on. In Baby Gravy, Russett is home from the Marines and it has been four years since he was last here. Four years ago he was a bad boy on the wrong track and decided to straighten himself out. In the process, though that meant leaving behind Autumn - his best friend's younger sister and the only girl he ever loved. Now he's back and ready to settle down and will do anything to win back the girl of his dreams. Autumn though is in a relationship and has brought him home for Thanksgiving dinner, not realizing Russett would be there. They see each other and the sparks are still strong and of course wham-bam hookup time and bye-bye Autumn's jerk of a boyfriend. We then get an HEA of course with this quick romantic instalove story. One of the things that also made me laugh in this book was the hashtags that accompanied it, so I thought I would share them with you.

Baby gravy is a short story that is a part of the second helpings short story series. This story is short, fast paced and a nice read. I read this story within half an hour and was satisfied throughout. I like Autumn and Russet. They both had a little romance in the past but Russet had backed off and left for the army/marines. The chemistry between Russet and Autumn was clear to see. I liked that Autumn’s family was on board and accepting of Autumn and Russet’s love.
I liked that Autumn and Russet got their second chance at love.
The storyline for this book is easy to follow and it is a nice read.

This short story is part of an 11-story (sort of) series by various authors called Second Helpings (similar to The Cocktail Girls and Halloween Honeys ). Each (save one, in my opinion) is a second-chance story of couples who reunite at Thanksgiving. Each entry is the series is a short story of 30-50 pages, or so, and run from medium to high heat. All stories are stand-alone and can be read in any order. And, I don’t think I give anything away to say they’re all served with a happy ending. While none are horrible (I didn’t hate any of them), some are better than others. (All stories in the series are listed below.)

Baby Gravy by Frankie Love is the story of Autumn and Russet. Russet broke Autumn’s heart when he left for the military four years ago. He knows he made a mistake and is back to get Autumn. Russet’s best friend, Autumn’s brother, has invited him to Thanksgiving dinner with the family and he’s not going to let his chance to win Autumn go by, even when he sees she’s brought her boyfriend with her.

I’ll start by saying I love most of what I’ve read by Frankie Love, short and long. This story doesn’t disappoint. Russet ran away to the Marines because he was scared of what Autumn wanted (forever!). In 30 pages we get enough back story to let us know they love each other and belong together. There was only one line in the story that I didn’t like, but it isn’t enough to ruin things. This is one of my favorites in the series.

Other titles in the series:
Alexis Adaire - Wishboned:Second Helpings
Tessa Blake - Man-Berry Sauce:Second Helpings
Sher Dillard - Roll Play:Second Helpings
Olivia Hawthorne - Cold Turkey:Second Helpings
Sierra Hill - Whipped:Second Helpings
Dori Lavelle - Dirty Dessert:Second Helpings
Tracy Lorraine - Cheeky Trifle:Second Helpings
Frankie Love - Baby Gravy:Second Helpings
Derek Masters - Double Stuffed:Second Helpings
Laney Powell - Hot Apple Pie:Second Helpings
Vivian Ward - His Meaty Drumstick:Second Helpings

From Tessa Blake’s book (Man-Berry Sauce:Second Helpings): Thank you so much to all my co-conspirators for making what started as a dumb dirty joke into an amazing, fun project. I love you all!

From Tracy Lorraine’s book (Cheeky Trifle:Second Helpings): You know that moment when a friend says something as a joke but then it somehow takes on a life of its own? Well, that’s the Second Helpings series. What started off as some tongue-in-cheek Thanksgiving book title ideas turned into a series of sexy shorts, so thanks for that, Alexis Adaire!
This was a very quick, very fun, little project that had us all crying with laughter. So I want to say thank you to all involved for making me step outside my comfort zone and come up with this sexy little short. All normal service can now resume, until one of you has another idea, anyway.

The heroine is virgin (of course, why wouldn't she?). The hero is in army and definitely not a virgin. Four years ago when heroine was 18 she wanted to be with him, be his wife and have his children but he didn't want that at all, but now that he has returned back home he wants all those things!?
Wow!
He just apologises and confesses that he still loves the heroine and she just accepts him backs and also understands why he wasn't ready to settle down - because he wanted to sow his wild oats (her words not mine). I mean are you fucking kidding me??

Ok..

Non do 5 Stelle, Perché sarebbe assurdo. Non è da cinque. È un voto medio per una short story tenera.

Pass the gravy, baby!

Baby Gravy is the second chance for Russett & Autumn. They were in love once but Russett left. He wasn't ready to settle down. He needed to do some growing up so he could be deserving of Autumn. Now he's back and he's coming for the girl he left behind. Love second chances & HEAs ❤️

Second Helpings are collaborations of short stories by different authors sharing a Thanksgiving theme & second chances. I've read the other collaborations by this and the other authors and loved them (The Cocktail Girls, Halloween Honeys). These individual short stories are quick reads. Their brevity doesn't lack romance, steam or that 'Awww' feeling when your heart melts.

Baby Gravy By Frankie Love

Spice: 🌶 🌶 🌶 🌶 🌶

Goodreads: 🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟

I saw this short story mentioned on TikTok and had to read it. It looked equally sexy and Funny. If you want a short story that is sexy and punny try this one. Our Hero Russet is a changed man. He has returned to his hometown for Thanksgiving.
Russet who was once the teen bad boy is now a discipline and decorated Marine. While on leave he returns home to his Best Friends Tanner's house. Tanner's younger sister Autumn will also be there. Autumn and Russet were once a couple, and Russet hopes to rekindle their romance while in town. If you are looking for a short spicy holiday read, pick up Baby Gravy it will not disappoint. My Spice Rating is a FOUR for strong sexual content. My Goodreads rating is a FIVE.

WOW Just WOW What a sweet Thanksgiving love story.

When Russet came home on leave he had one thing (person) on his mind. He had broken Autumn's heart when he joined the Marines and left, four years ago. He could only hope she still wanted all that she wanted before he left.

Autumn wasn't sure how Russet would react to seeing her again after 4 years apart. It only took one hug and then a meeting in the hall for her to get her answer.

This is such a sweet story and although it was a very short book it says all that needs to be said when a man and woman love each other.

Great job Frankie Love xoxo

Talk about a Thanksgiving treat! This short, and I mean very short hot and steamy thanksgiving romance is the perfect desert for this holiday.

Love’s story centers around Russet and Autumn. Autumn wanted it all - house, white picket fence, tons of kids. She wanted all of that with her brothers best friend Russet. Russet was never the best kid growing up but knew he had to do better in order to deserve Autumn. Now back in town for the holidays, Russet it ready to claim him woman.

Even with a little bit of drama we are able to sink our teeth into a real love story. I can’t wait to read the rest of the books in this series.

This is a very quick and cute holiday read.

Autumn and Russ spent the summer together unbeknown to anyone else especially her big brother and His best friend, that is until he broke her heart when he left to join the military. Russ left to make something of his life so that he could return to her and give her the life that he thought she deserved.

Its four years later and Russ is back on leave and ready to claim his girl but will she still be waiting for him or will she have moved on. But he has faith in the love that they shared and he can now offer her all that he couldn’t four years ago.

It’s a very fast paced short story.

Very right to the point. Not much fluff or build up really. It’s nice if you are prepared for that. I prefer a bit more to a book. By a bit I mean a lot! I really can’t call this a book though it’s so short.

I would like a short story like this when I’m between other books or if I’m super busy with work and don’t want to ruin another book I really want to read but I can’t give time or attention to. So I will buy a few more of Frankie Love’s other books for just such occasions.

It was a nice story. Could have used a bit more sweetness to if I had to criticize it.

Characters: Russet and Autumn

Spice rating: 🌶🌶🌶🌶 out of 5

Russet is on vacation from the military visiting his best friend and his family.

Autumn came home for Thanksgiving with her current boyfriend in tow.

4 years ago Russet and Autumn had a thing one summer, so as soon as Russet sees Autumn he lays it all on the line.

This was a super quick read, honestly I wished that the author put in their romance before Russet got deployed, so it expanded their romance more. I felt like I was reading the ending of a book, rather than a novella.
Also the food puns in here were funny, but a couple made me cringe a bit. Still a good read for Thanksgiving

Short story. Not safe.
Hero and heroine were together kissing by the river, she says to him that she wants to marry him and have his kids. Hero decides that he is not ready for that and leaves her.
Hero left the h for four years to be in the marines and thought that 'fucking around and becoming a man was important'.
h still a virgin but dated this douche bag.
At Thanksgiving H comes back, kisses h proposes, she forgives him for leaving and they go straight to fucking, saying that she understands that he needed to 'sow his wild oats'.
So I am glad that this was a very short story, but I hated every bit of it.

A very well written short story with nice storyline and plot. Likeable characters that are well described and develops nicely through the story. I liked this very well written short but captivating and heartwarm story. It is written so you can almost share the feelings of the main characters.
He has been friends with her brother for years. Then he left for the marines after they had a steamy kiss. Now they meet again and their fate has its own will.
Absolutely great chemistry and passion. A story that is enjoyable and engaging to read.

I really enjoyed this story. It's a short second chance romance between Russ, Grayson's best friend, and Autumn, Grason's little sister. Russ left to join the Marines. Four years later he is back and wants Autumn to be his. He knows that she wants a family and he's ready to give it to her. Russ joins her family for Thanksgiving dinner, and even though she brought a date he is going to let her know how he feels. He wants her to be thankful that he's back in town.

I recommend reading this book.

A super short, but sexy second chance romance! Russett and Autumn (love those fall themed names!), spent a summer together as children, but Russett had some maturing to do. Autumn always knew what she wanted, so she waits. Then he shows up for Thanksgiving on leave from the Marines! This short is full of passion and hope. It takes that warm Thanksgiving feeling and charges it up with the excitement of finally getting what you want. Baby gravy, yes please!!

I know this was supposed to be a quick, cute romance but I still couldn't help but wish he had to do some grovelling before she forgave him. Also didn't appreciate the implication that he knew he loved her all along but left anyway and was with other women. Annnnd still a little confused...did he leave because he thought she wasn't old enough to make her own decisions or because he was afraid of commitment?
