I’m one of those child actors that could have gone off the deep end. My friends say I’m fairly well adjusted, maybe playing the role of Baby Grace Ingalls has something to do with it.
Four seasons on the set of Little House on the Prairie with Michael Landon as my pa is something I could never have dreamed up. In fact, it’s shaped my life in unimaginable ways and it’s not going away either. Now after 40 years, I’m still a lover of bonnets and wide open spaces… Pa would be so proud!
My first book, A Prairie Devotional, has delighted Little House fans from all over the world. And now, my next book Red Tail Feathers releases August 13th of 2023. It's a memoir about finding grace in every chapter of life.

The author and her identical twin sister played Baby Grace on the Little House On the Prairie TV show. Wendi was strongly affected by the content of the episodes, and especially by Michael Landon. The book is based on 75 episodes of the show in 91 devotionals.
Wendi experienced the trauma of a brain tumor and protracted recovery from brain surgery, in which her faith and the love of a devoted husband gave her the strength to become rehabilitated. She is the kind of person with whom you would like to share a Bible study group.
The book is printed on sturdy card stock, and includes illustrations that look like woodcuts based on the original Little House series. I strongly recommend that anyone who would enjoy uplifting stories of the love of God and family read this book.
I have wanted to read this book ever since I purchased it for several family members and friends. I finally picked it up on a quiet day and had to keep reading it steady once I started. While this is a devotional book, I also labeled it as an autobiography because Wendi tells personal stories from her own experiences, not just on Little House, but her own health struggles for example. She lets readers know what she has been up to since Little House. Therefore, I wanted to add, this felt part autobiographical while I was reading it.
This is now one of my favorite devotions in part because I am a HUGE fan of Little House- the original books, the expanded book series (with Martha, Charlotte, Caroline, and Rose), and of course the TV show. I have visited Walnut Grove and several other Little House sites, and I have even met Wendi more than once! (True Little House fans will wait in line for hours- not just once!) Obviously, I adored her format with each devotional focusing on a specific Little House episode. She lists the episode titles and offers a quote from one of the characters. You do not have to be a Little House fan though to enjoy this book. I gave this to a friend who did not know much about the show, but she still liked it. Wendi gives a brief summary of the episode, so readers can get the gist of what is going on. Then she always ties it to every day life. She relates her own personal experiences and sometimes it is just as simple as describing one of her own bad days. Then she ends with a Bible verse and asks a few pondering questions.
I greatly appreciated how relatable Wendi is. She is very down-to-earth. I felt like I was simply visiting with her at times. I can't even express how grateful I was for her words as I went through some of my own bad days. She reminded me of the big picture and I felt better after reading it; to me, this is the best judge of a good devotional book. I would recommend this for not just someone looking for new devotions but also fans of Little House. My one complaint is I wish she would have made some of the devotions a little longer, and I simply wanted it to keep going. Ninety-one devotions was not enough. Wendi, if you ever happen to read this, could you come out with a volume two or an expanded version with enough for an entire year? I would be forever grateful. :)
Recently I received, and have been so privileged to read, an advance copy of Wendi Lou Lee’s upcoming book A Prairie Devotional that’s scheduled to be released in the coming days. Let me tell you, that while reading, I had not been able to put the book down. This is such an amazing and inspiring read that all you will want to do, is stop what you are doing and read through it all. The book is an excellent addition to your reading collection even if you are a fan of the tv series Little House on the Prairie or not. The book incorporates real life triumphs and struggles from physical, emotional and spiritual instances that each one of us can certainly relate to. I highly recommend obtaining a copy of this wonderful inspiring book, “A Prairie Devotional” today.
4.5 stars It's so neat to hear that one of the actresses from Little House is actually a Christian, and was inspired to write a devotional based on the episodes. This was an insightful devo!
I love the tie in to the themes of the series Little House on the Prairie with everyday faith filled lessons and Wendi's experiences and words to pull it all together. As it's a daily devotional and I just got it for my birthday I'm not yet done but far enough in to confidently say I've enjoyed every page. I recommend it not only to Little House fans but those looking for a great every day devotional to dig into on a daily basis.
I snatched my MIL's devotional over Mother's Day Weekend and enjoyed a few chapters before returning it to her coffee table. She surprised me with my own copy on our next visit and I've enjoyed it a lot. As a family we've been rereading the LHotP series this year and are nearly done. So now we are eager to enjoy the show. This devotional ties in real life stories from Wendi's life, as well as memories of production and lessons from the show.
My 100-year-old mother-in-law loved the Little House on the Prairie series, so she was thrilled to get this devotional book by Wendi Lou Lee, who played Baby Grace. Each of the sweet devotions is based not only on one of the episodes but also on Wendi's life experiences. This beautiful hardback book makes a great gift!
If you are a Little House On The Prairie fan, you already know Wendi as “Baby Grace”, and you will not miss this wonderful little book. In it, you will find many stories about the TV show, the people who made it and the characters you have been fond of for 45 years. Plus, if you are a christian, a Jesus follower, or someone interested in religion, you will discover how Wendi Lou Lee’s deep faith and her love for Jesus and God, shape each moment of her life. The expression of her faith, and how she lives it as a modern young woman, mother of two teen kids, is really at the core of her writings. But her relation to it remains subtly described (ocurring at the end of each chapter as a starting point to a more profound thinking, if you are willing to dive in it).
But even if you are not religious, you can relate to everything she talks about, because really they are things that everyone is experiencing in one's life, whether you’re married or single, whether you have children or not, whether you’re struggling with bills at the end of the month or not. Wendi uses stories, memories and anecdotes from the TV show she was in as a baby girl, each one prompting her thoughts in relation with her own life, and thus engages the reader in a series of questionings (nothing too heavy, you won’t be depressed after the last page, quite the contrary !) about his own thoughts, actions and insecurities.
As it is written in a lively, modern and simple style, you really feel a connection with the writer, and you feel just as if you were casually chatting with her for hours in her drawing-room. Despite her young age, Wendi has had her share of hardships (going from losses of dear members of her family, parents’ divorce, health issues leading to delicate surgery, to deceiving romances, insecurities, sense of competition with her twin sister, etc) and also her share of happiness with her loving husband and her two children. It’s the life of somebody who doesn’t hold everything for granted and her experiences are interesting to read about, whether they are sad, funny, scary or soothing.
So indulge yourself and read Wendi Lou Lee’s book ! You will be surprised at how eager you are to know more page after page, and you will wish it would be longer.
As a lifelong fan of the beloved television classic series Little House On The Prairie, it’s been wonderful over the last decade or so to see so many of the cast members put their life stories to paper - Alison Arngrim (Nellie Oleson) and Charlotte Stewart (Miss Beadle), and three of the Ingalls sisters themselves, Melissa Gilbert (Laura), Melissa Sue Anderson (Mary) and Melissa Francis (Cassandra)... and now it’s the turn of the littlest Ingalls sister, Wendi Lou Lee (who fans of the show will know played the role of Baby Grace, alongside her twin sister Brenda) and her beautiful book A Prairie Devotional. And simply put, it’s a wonderful read.
This book fell into my hands at a time in my life when I was going through a really difficult time with a bout of depression, and to say it lifted my spirits on the afternoon I started reading is an understatement. I read the whole thing in one sitting, cover to cover, and felt focused, positive and happy.
The book feels as if you’re sitting with Wendi in her home, sharing teapot tea and a plate of freshly baked scones, having a good long chat together. Wendi’s strong faith shines through in the pages of this book, and it doesn’t matter if you aren’t religious yourself - her memories, her stories, her life experiences, the good, the bad, the painful, are all here, and it’s remarkable how she bears her soul and draws upon experiences from the show, and certain characters and episodes, have shaped her into the incredible woman she is today.
There are moments in this book that had me nodding and thinking: “Same here!” and I think that will be the same for anyone else who reads it too. Moments of joy, moments of regret, things we still think about from high school, incidents with loved ones, friends and family, everyone who reads this will recognise something similar from their own lives.
Fans of Little House will want to have this book, and I sure will agree with me that maybe Wendi will put pen to paper for a second instalment. It’s a book to give your mind and soul a boost, and it will do this for sure.
What an amazing book! I agree with the other reviews: this book is a must-have for any Little House fan. Wendi Lou Lee’s approach is very interesting, because it is very different from all the books written by the other actors of the show. There is nothing about Hollywood in this book. It is totally about the Little House on the Prairie values (although there are some anecdotes about the show and the actors, as well). Each chapter connects one Little House episode with one biblical verse! This is very well thought... and very uplifting! You rediscover every Little House episode in a new light, you love the show even more.... and you love life even more!! Also, what makes is even greater is that, very obviously, the author, Wendi Lou Lee, lives with the Little House values in her own life. It’s already very clear in her interaction with fans on social media and in Little House events. And you can feel it in every line of her book. She obviously put a lot of love in this project. And it’s a real success!
This little book may change your life. With simple insight into our everyday lives, Wendi Lou weaves the wisdom given by Little House on the Prairie characters into our everyday struggles and joys. She shares her own experiences, brings in Bible verses and ends each short devotion with a few simple, but thought provoking, questions. Take a step back in time to the simple days of the 1800's and then right back to today as Wendi encourages you to live a good life, be a better person and depend on God and family.
Written by one of the actors who played Baby Grace on the television series, Little House on the Prairie, this devotional is a lovely trip down memory lane for all of us who are fans of the tv show and the book series. Lee seamlessly weaves back and forth between her own life and stories from the show, writing 91 short devotionals about the wisdom and love that God teaches us regarding relationships, life experiences, and community. God's love for us and our love for each other is timeless - just like the stories and lessons in A Prairie Devotional.
Loved, loved, loved reading this devotional with my kids. It brought back sweet memories of watching the show as a child and listening to my mother read Laura Ingalls Wilder's books. But even better, it started beautiful conversations with my kids on lessons so easily taught through the Little House on the Prairie show. I love how Wendy wove little snippets of the show and God's Word together with stories of her own.
This was a delightful book of 91 devotionals. I enjoyed her stories about her own life as well as the series. Seeing as she was 1-4 years old she didn't really have stories from the series but the way she integrated the series was very warm and comforting. She also gave me some major insight into something I have dealt with all my life (fearing nightime and being alone) which is amazing.
Who doesn't love Little House on the Prairie? Wendi, who played Baby Grace on the show, does a great job of weaving personal stories with LHOP episodes. From being an identical twin to fighting brain cancer to becoming an author, Wendi's stories resonate, inspire, and entertain. Perfect devo for daily reading, and a beautiful hardback book to give as a gift!
I'm part way through this lovely devotional and have already found it to be relevant for my walk with God. I appreciate the true stories Wendi Lou Lee shares along with the way she mentions the specific TV episodes that inspired her words.
This is a wonderful book, I so enjoyed reading it. It is inspirational, and you also learn some interesting facts about the Little House on the Prairie! I will be recommending this to my friends and family. I read many devotional books and this is definitely a new favorite.
The 91 devotionals are filled with scripture plus stories from Little House and the author's life. It's an inspiring and uplifting read for Christians and Little House fans alike.
I loved watching Little House when I was a child and I recently re-watched and read the books again, so finding this devotional was a treat. Encouraging, convicting, and always pointing you to Christ, I highly recommend.
This is a great devotional, especially for fans of Little House on the Prairie television series. The devotional is spiritual and pulls from specific, noted episodes from the show, plus gives insight into Wendi Lou Lee's experience on the show.
This book was fun to see devotionals attached to episodes of Little House on the prairie. I will be honest my rating is more about that and the person I read it with but some of these really not no,e with me.
This was excellent. Each day includes a Bible verse and a correlating episode of LHOP. There's insight to the behind the scenes action of the show, and a deep example of how God has worked in Wendi's life.
Wonderfully inspirational with Bible verses and the author’s story also weaved with Little House on the Prairie episodes. The author portrayed the character Grace in the television series.
