Now, let's talk about this specimen of a man named Shayne...
Shayne Silvers writes the "Nate Temple Series" which features a foul-mouthed, flawed, young wizard with a chip on his shoulder attempting to protect St. Louis from the various nasties we all know and fear from our childhood bedtime stories.
Nate's been known to suckerpunch an Angel, cow-tip the Minotaur, and steal Death's horse in order to prove his point. His utter disregard for consequences and self-preservation will have you laughing and cringing on the edge of your seat.
But he has a lot to learn. Namely, how not to be so big of an A-Hole.
Shayne holds two high-ranking black belts, and enjoys conversing about anything Marvel, Magical, or Mythological. You might find him writing in a coffee shop near you, cackling madly into his computer screen while pounding shots of espresso.
I said it since the day it first showed up and I WAS RIGHT!
Ahem.
Book 11 of the Nate Temple series follows the same increasingly compressed pace as some of the more recent Templeverse installments (the Phantom Queen Diaries in particular) and to start, that is really the only thing that in this instance does deal a particular hit to the book, not in lack of quality or cohesion, but rather that it feels like there was a bit of wasted opportunity to cram in just a few more sub-plots and return to Silvers' typical behavior of ramping up all possible stakes even further.
The environment the bulk of the story takes place in, Fae, feels woefully under-utilized in this regard as well, lacking any real engagement with the Faeries whatsoever and dropping the longstanding threat they represent to Nate for the plot at hand. Given some of the events of the story that would be understandable, but given how many other over-arching plot threads Silvers managed to fit in already, it felt like tugging that particular thread and establishing a bit more groundwork for future engagements with the Faeries might have been to the series' benefit.
The series throws a few more twists into the mix, though it could be something of a matter of my longevity with Silvers' writing that I could tell which twists would make a longstanding impact and which ones would be amended in a more timely manner. That is not to say there is no emotional gravitas to the events in question, far from it as the ending once again sets on a precipice of new territory that requires a whole rearrangement of powers that be and who and what is on what side for what reasons. It's another roller coaster in microcosm, and has fittingly high loops and low drops all along the way.
The action holds palatable tension, though a fair amount of the spotlight goes again to internal struggles and mental/emotional juggling acts throughout the story with more than a couple older themes being drawn up again to hash over, some resolved, some not. I don't find myself thinking the story needed more action per se, but again, rather there was potential for a bit more to be worked into the midst of things that just wasn't, in favor of pushing the plot points at hand.
Overall though the book managed to break new ground as much as hit a now almost nostalgic note of escalation mania that Silvers' writing is taking more and more as a central characteristic, even if its not always pushed to the forefront of a particular story each and every time, and as usual the next one is always eagerly anticipated.
The publisher’s blurb promises that if you like Jim Butcher, Kevin Hearne, Steve McHugh, Michael Anderle, Ilona Andrews, Patricia Briggs, Shannon Mayer, or K.F. Breene then you’ll love this book. I have read many books by all of those authors and pretty much uniformly enjoyed them. None beat Shayne Silvers and the Nate Temple tales. I used to have what I called my “Dresden Test” that used Jim Butcher’s Dresden as the ideal and compared books against those of his Dresden series. That test is long gone. It’s been replaced by my Templeverse test that compares books against the Nate Temple stories. This latest, Legend: A Nate Temple Supernatural Thriller Book 11 (The Temple Chronicles), is s perfect example of why that is so. Wonderfully complex yet easy to follow, filled with action and thrills, twists and turns, surprises and revelations, and populated by superbly crafted characters that (gasp) have real emotions, this is one heck of a wonderful novel. But for the fact that I’m literally dictating this review to my husband from my hospital bed I could go on and on with praises. The book definitely deserves it. Since I can’t do that I will simply note that the book is most definitely one to read, and it is easy to highly recommend. It should be no shocker that I’m definitely looking forward to the next book in this series.
After what I thought of as a lull in his usual thrilling style, Legend hit my Kindle, and with twists, turns, tears and titters, Shayne Silvers brought Nate Temple back with a bang! There are so many revelations and emotions running through this book that you spend your entire reading experience riveted to the page. holding your breath waiting for the next shock to hit. It's been a long time since I've been this entirely captivated by TempleVerse, and I'm thrilled Shayne is bringing intensity, shock and WTH! back into Nate's story.
I've been a fan for a very long time, have liked every book he's written, but Legend brought me back to the love I've had for his mastery of the written word. He's back with words that touch my soul, words that will stick with me for a long time to come. Phrases like "the screaming silence of grief" struck my heart like it was aimed right at me. So, Welcome back, Shayne Silvers! You're definitely back in the groove and I'm right there with you devotedly following every word!
Very Very Well Done, Master Silvers! Waiting with bated breath for the next Holy Cannoli volume of TempleVerse!
To make a long-lasting series enjoyable to me is the ability of the author to let me in to watch characters ' growth as the series progresses. I am talking about series that are more than a trilogy. If I am not seeing even a smidgen of growth by Book Four or Five, I won't be reading beyond that. Obviously if the author is publishing books numbered in the teams, then I am in the minority.
That's ok with reading Shayne Silvers. You will get personal growth handed to you by the buckets. He has a caustic wit and, boy, can he write! His characters are unique and his plots devious.
I suspect a person either loves Shayne Silvers and Nate Temple, or you would love to see them dropped off of a very high cliff. I know which choice is mine. I leave you to make your own choice.
I'm pretty sure I cussed Shayne several times reading this book. I also laughed so hard my dog and housemates wondered if I was okay or having a fit of some type. I f@#$ing love this damn book!
Reveal parties, Gods attacking, DEAN!!!! Alex goes badass as hell. A broken Bifrost to fix.., Then there are the tears and more tears and denial. Nate's so going to be in trouble when Ashley hears the story. And then there's Alice. Nate has a son (Alex) and I'm pretty sure he just got a daughter, (Alice). He seems to collect children from Fae.
After that ending, WTF comes next because that asshole (Shayne) just blew all of the Den of Freaks' theories outtakes the freaking water ( and he's laughing manically about it)!
My only complaint about the books of this series is that they are incredibly short, quick reads. Each one is like a delightful little snack but leaves me hungry for more.
Just wow! Legend is epic, with all of the reveals, action, heart-wrenching, and WTF packed into these pages. In retrospect, WTF is correct but understating the matter. Basically, take a huge amount of WTF. Wrap it in a rainbow. Call Grimm. Watch the impending explosion, splattering rainbow-gut-soiled WTF all over the place. Then try to read the entrails of the exploded rainbow-sullied WTF to divine the future in the TempleVerse. THAT is Legend. You may need a safe word.
A rollercoaster tossed inside a hurricane inside of a tornado and this still doesn't begin to describe the picture. I laughed,I cried, I was worried...wow...just wow
I don't know what the exact chronological timeline of the Nate Temple books is; how long has actually passed in his world since the series started, but with everything that's happened to him, revelations about his family, secrets from his past, new powers, old powers, old loves, new loves, fight clubs, betrayal and the possible destruction of the Earth (more than once), it's a wonder he's even sane. Legend simply piles on to what's come before as Nate finally returns to Fae to confront the truth about himself and winds up having to deal with much more than that. Silvers has overcome the story-telling inconsistencies in earlier books to warp-speed through each and every page with more action and trouble than most books cover in their entire length. In fact, if I have any real criticism with these books is that too much happens too fast; not only does Nate not have time to process the flat-out crazy things that happens to him, but the reader doesn't either, leaving us all hanging on by our respective fingertips as we're pulled along in Silvers' story-telling wake. There's no chance to consider, no chance to go back and re-read anything because the next installment is just around the corner. Most would call it an embarrassment of riches and maybe they're right, but it can be overwhelming. Still, none of this is an excuse not to keep riding the whirlwind. If you've enjoyed the Templeverse series up to now, then you're going to love this one as it delivers huge apocalyptic spoonfuls of what you came to the party for in the first place, thrills, chills and spills told on a grand and glorious scale, featuring a truly charismatic and entertaining hero, told by a writer whose just coming to the top of his game. Legend (wait for it) ary.
Shayne Silvers works his customary magic, in the second visit by Nate Temple to the Land of Fae, in Book 11 in the Templeverse series.Legend.
And there are certainly plenty of legends - and legendary figures to choose from - as Nate not only has his own unicorn, Grimm, but has a fight with Thor the Norse god, who with his heroes has come to conquer all who stand in his way, whether Fae, Witches, dragons, werewolves, vampires or King Arthur's knights. Who is Wylde and why has Nate sought him out? What does Wylde do in the woods? What powers does he possess and how will he use them? What is Mordred's secret agenda? Will he help Nate or target him? How does he feel towards Wylde?
This exciting new chapter in the Templeverse world will see bad guys and good fall in an epic battle for supremacy in Camelot - and St Louis! While it answers many questions from the earlier books, Legend will pose still more, while taking you on an emotional rollercoaster ride that will leave you spellbound and unable to put this excellent story down til you've reached the end - you have been warned!
Legend : A Nate Temple Supernatural Thriller - Book 11
This story isn't one of my favorites. The story was surrounded by lies, upon lies, terrible deaths and deception, slow moving and sometimes confusing with who really was who. Nate continues to wallow about his lack of powers, magic or Fae. Nate was in hocks to the King of Hell, but he also was owed two out of Hell free cards. Nate, Gunner, Talon, Alice and her mother Alvara head to Fae land, while Alex and Grimm head off chasing rainbows. Rainbows, yup, you won't believe it. The showdown between Nate and Modred falls apart, which was very disappointing. We find out Dean isn't who we have been lead to believe and Alex is now someone new too. Let's just say it was lucky for Nate that he had those two free cards, or this story would have had a real bad ending. No Callie, except to be mentioned in passing by Nate, once again disappointing. Two special characters do show up in a delightful and hilarious visit to a bar. Over all I guess I was hoping Nate would finally become stronger with his magic and less whinny, but that wasn't the case. Kathy Barber Doyle - 4/16/2019
What do I say that I haven’t said before? This book was a gasp-inducing story from beginning to end, just like it always is. I love how you never know what quite to expect, but then when you think about it, the signs were there all along. As I’ve said before, I am a very fast reader, and I know I miss a few of the subtleties. However, that in no way hinders my enjoyment of these wild, fun, non-stop action books. No, I can’t really go into many details because at this point in the series, almost everything is a spoiler. Just start at the beginning and hold on tight; you are in for a legendary ride! I highly recommend this book and series! I was provided the e-book which I reviewed voluntarily.
There are books that stand out in a series, that you return to again and again, that are something more because they demand something from their readers—Legend is just such a book When you are on book 11 of a series it is very easy to fall into the pattern of writing what your readers want to read. Shayne Silvers, once again, goes against the grain and takes our favorite wizard, Nate Temple, to a place that none of his fans ever wanted to see him end up. However, in doing so, he managed to birth a Legend forged in fire, tempered by heartache and grief, and sharpened with resolve. In fact, 2 Legends were born with thus book—Nate and Shayne. This. Changes. Everything.
Ok, yes this was a good book if you like magical action and snarky humor (the snark is back, thank goodness). There is also a lot of heart in this one.
In this book:
Gunnar learns he is going to be a daddy.
Nate has a fight with Thor in which the Bifröst (the rainbow bridge that connects Asgard to Midgard) is killed by Nate’s unicorn, Grimm. This leads to the necessity of a quest to rebuild it, which has to be done in Fae.
Magical beings are disabled and killed in Fae, some of them permanently. Most of these are the good guys. It is all very sad.
Alex comes into his own. And Alice proves to be very helpful, and kind (Alice is my favorite character in this book).
And we finally find out who Dean the butler really is.
The latest addition to the Templeverse takes the reader back to the land of Fae for more fun and mayhem Temple style. . After Mordred, King Arthur’s illegitimate son, fled to Fae Nate has to come to terms with his split lives and go in after him. Much is revealed about why Nate’s parents did what they did and a few more truths come out about some of the key players. This one is an edge of your seat page turner guaranteed to keep the reader engaged and rooting for our foul mouth irreverent wizard to get his stuff together and do what he does best... blow stuff up. This one is definitely not all rainbows and unicorns, but they could possibly make an appearance in Silvers’ twisted way.
In this magical episode of the Templeverse saga, the reader is mesmerized by The writing style of Shayne Silvers. The storyline is well-written, epic story-telling, SNARK!! There are answers, more questions, a growing family, surprises unfold more of the past secrets, some sadness and fantastic world-building. Shayne's written words come alive for the reader and thoroughly entrance them in the most addictive way. Absolutely wonderful characters, and as often as I've said before, these books should be on everyone's Must Read List As soon as I've finished one of these stories, I'm eagerly anticipating the next in the series. I love this series to distraction!!! I voluntarily read an ARC and this is my honest review.
I’m actually very confused right now. This was a very emotional book. I’m not used to feeling sad after reading books by this author. I’m never pleased when a key character dies but I’m not the author. I better get over myself. The key thing about this book is I feel it wasn’t finished. We’ve been dealing with stuff from this character for a few books, I’m getting tired of it not being resolved. The only thing that changed was a key character and a secondary character died. Nothing was resolved. I’m conflicted and half angry. Not the author is happy that I’m angry kind. The I’m getting disgruntled with this crap kind. This was originally posted in Audible and is a duplicate. Btw Audible version is FABULOUS Give it a try
This is a fast paced captivating story that's really difficult to put down! I love the unique characters in this book and the dangerous adventures they go on. Nate is determined to find answers about his Fae childhood, but what he discovers is so much more. I love that no matter what happens, Nate gives his all to protect his friends, his family and his city from threats they are under. Each new book in this fascinating Nate Temple series is better than the last! This book is action-packed, with danger, adventure, suspense, magic, gods, loyalty, loss, secrets revealed, Fae, humor, friendship, twists and turns and more. I can't wait for the next book in this intriguing series!
Of all the books in the Templeverse, this book took took me on an odyssey of emotions leading up to the epiphany that this author is truly gifted with verse and each book brings to light a new story that is more incredible than the last. Shayne Silvers takes us yet on another adventure of self discovery through his very engaging characters. He takes us through the simple things in life and the most complex of decisions. If you are looking for a series that will draw you in and make you feel a part of the adventure, this is the series for you!
This book blew my mind. I have always loved the Nate Temple books from the beginning. But this one. Wow. Just....Wow. With this latest one, Shayne Silvers has outdone even himself. This book grabs you by the feels and doesn't let go. It takes you on a rollercoaster ride of magic, mayhem, and, well, rainbows. Pieces of Nate's past click into place for him and we discover revelations that will simply shock you to your core. You cannot put this book down once you pick it up! Read the entire series: you won't regret it! This book was just so awesome that I think I will remember it for the rest of my life!
My mind is blown away by the plot twist and reviled secrets in this book. The "OMG I CAN'T BELIEVE" moments really will leave you breathless. Nate needs to get his memories back from his childhood in Fae and remember how to access his Fae born powers.... but the cost for this may be one that the billionaire King of St Louis doesn't want to pay. He also need to clean up a rainbow crisis or face the Norse gods wrath. Grimm, Alex, Gunnar, and Talyon all set out to help Nate save the day. Legend made me laugh hysterically, grind my teeth in anticipation, and ugly cry with sorrow and happiness. Well done Shayne. Best Book Yet.

Mr Silver's is the writer that just keeps on giving. I'll happily confess to being a fan. This is the eleventh time Nate Temple and his wacky crew have amused, bedevilled and amazed me. I won't go into detail here. Just know thatbyou should expect a dollop of tear jerking, a pinch of anger, some twists and a lot of turns. Nothing is ever as it seems. The paceis frenetic and then it speeds up. Yes Nate is not prefect. But he's perfectly not perfect. A total nob who is simultaneously a legend. enjoy.
Nate has holes in his soul, and gaps in his memory, but that's standard fare when you have lived two lives, one in this world and one in Fae. The problem is that when echos of one life come into the other, it makes Nate go a little crazy. To unite the two halves of his soul, Nate is headed back to where this all began. Hopefully by facing his past, he will become more powerful in the present. Along the way, Nate finds clues and allies that were in front of him this whole time, and confrontations that may be more deadly and dangerous than any he has ever faced
This book is amazing and startling in its revelations.
Legend lives up to it's title. Nate Temple at his best! There are many defining moments to the character of Nate Temple in Legend. The struggles he faces as well as the myriad of clues to who he is that he has unearthed in this story is mind boggling. This story takes you on a roller coaster ride of emotions and the strengthening of childhood bonds leaves you breathless and racing towards the finish line. The best story in this series yet!
Wow. Just...wow. So much going on in this book. Starting with a fantastic cover. There are lots of laughs, and alas, lots of tears. This one got all up in the feels. The surprises, oh my. My mind is blown, and can’t even begin to contemplate where it goes from here. There are a lot of errors in this book I was a bit surprised about. I’m also wanting some of the things to not drag out as much as some of them are. The next story, can only imagine. I am impatiently:), waiting for Callie’s next book. Nice job!
...dary! No, seriously. He is! If you’ve gotten to this point, dear reader, do yourself a huge favor and just get this book. What are you waiting for? Well if you want to know more about it...
Nate has big problems...
He’s two halves of a whole in Wylde Fae and Nate Temple, which is really affecting not only his mental state, but his magical abilities. When something catastrophic happens, he has to put himself through the ringer to try to repair the damage that was done. But it won’t be easy, and because of his impotence, he really can’t do it alone. Especially with the looming threat of Mordred to contend with. A revealing and heart-wrenching adventure awaits you in Legend that will leave you hungry for what’s to come!
I can't get enough of this series! I started reading this series out of order because I read the Feathers and Fire series first and wanted to find out what was going on with Callie since the two series are connected. Once I started the Temple Chronicles I couldn't stop. Each book in the series gets better and better. I love the personalities of all the characters, and how all of their stories connect. It's rare to find a book that can make you laugh out loud. This series has it all, humor, mystery, action, romance....hopefully with Callie, lol.
There's a lot going on in this book so keep your wits about you. Not one of my favourites of the series but I can kinda see why we needed to go there (you know, to Fae and all that). Lots of loose ends here and that is the trade mark of the Templeverse series, you never quite know where the author will go next. I would really love Callie to take up a bit more screen time in Nate's world, sigh a girl can dream. Sass, laughter, tears, they are all here is this latest episode in the life of Nate Temple and I look forward to the next installment.
The story is building into something so gripping that I am having to find jobs in the shed to get in reading time! I don't want to put the book down. Nate/Wylde is a hilarious, big hearted, smart, spoilt brat, what's not to love?! Thrown into multiple impossible scenarios all for a big plan that he has not been told about. Amazing group of friends surround him and help him throughout, throw in magic, money, every type of mythical legend and foe you can think of and you have an idea of the story. Love it.
The Legend has arrived. Shayne Silvers newest book will have you reading non stop and you will be drawn into his book like all of the others He has written. One giant rollercoaster. You will not see the end coming. You think you understand everything that will happen??? Bam.. another surprise... The last surprise will have you shaking your head and whispering to your self OMG what is going to happen next
