Miami Jones is enjoying the warm breeze of fall in South Florida when he gets a call from his past. His high school football coach has fallen victim to a financial fraud, and not only has he lost his nest egg, but seemingly also his will to live.

Miami must travel back to the town of his childhood, a place of memories both happy and sad, to try to make good on a debt that he knows he can never truly repay.

He won't just face his demons—he's up against Connecticut high society, a growing band of Russian gangsters and an FBI agent who might send everyone to the big house.

Sometimes the hardest cases are the ones closest to home.

Dear Reader,

If you love a good beach read, or a book that makes you feel like you’re relaxing on the beach even when you can’t, Miami Jones might be for you.

Readers say they love the relatable but oddball characters, the tropical locations (although this one takes Miami away from his usual locations and into a New England fall) and a good dose of mystery, without all the usual gratuitous sex and profanity.

If James Patterson, Stuart Woods, Carl Hiaasen, Tim Dorsey or John D. MacDonald are among your favorite reads, then Miami Jones might be right up your alley.

I hope you give him a try. You might just gain a new buddy or two.

Cheers

AJ

In the latest in the Miami Jones series, Jones received a phone call from a woman who he considered to be his sister. When Miami s mom died when he was in 8th grade his father sought solace in the bottle and the Football coach took my Charge of Miami, the coach had Miami go to every Varsity Football practice and game, so the players named him Red Shirt. Eventually Miami moved in with the coach and became a big brother to the coach s daughter. When the coach retired he invested his life savings with a former player and the daughter suspected that the former player was involved in a Ponzi Scheme . Miami flies back home ( New Haven, Connecticut) to help his coach. The interesting part of the story was the Russian mob angle, the author does a great job explaining what happened when the Russian Oligarchs took over the country and how some of them came to America and tried to muscle in on the Loan Sharking Trade. Miami with help from his longtime Mafia friend ( Sal Mondavi ) is able to help his coach and his ex teammate.

Can anything interesting happen in Connecticut? If you are Miami Jones there is guaranteed to be. When Miami was growing up in New England, his dad was a drunk and Coach became hi mentor and father figure. Now, Coach is retired and his retirement savings have disappeared, given to someone coach trusted for investing. If you aren't familiar with what a Ponzi scheme is, you will be after reading this. The tricky part isn't just getting the money back. Coach loved the guy pulling the scam, like a son. Miami needs to accomplish this while keeping the guy out of the mud. Now there are two Russian groups that really aren't Russian. They have money invested, and they naturally want their's back too, with interest. How Miami accomplishes this is nothing short of genius.

Written more for the fans of the Miami Jones character than anything else. While there is a group of 'bad guys' for MJ to deal with, this story is more about his relationship with his high school football coach and others from that time.

One of Coach's other players from the day has involved Coach in a Ponzi scheme. Jones comes up from Florida at the request of Coach's daughter to try and recover the money. Jones involves Sal Mondavi in his efforts. There is more insight into the Mondavi character than has been written in prior novels.

MJ fans will want to read this but others might find it too tame for a Stewart thriller.

A 10 for 10

Well, that looks like the end of the series of Miami Jones mysteries and overall I have enormously enjoyed the ride. The dimes realistic, the bad guys are bad, the good guys are good. I wish it were that clear in real life! But what I enjoyed most were the characters. They seem like stories of real peopleb- and maybe they are. But they are the mysteries of LIFE that we all deal with. Life, death, joy, heartache. They are all there. I, for one, ended the series hoping the best for all these characters. As I lay them to rest I want them to know that they will always be remembered.

Red Shirt was an AWESOME READ!!

It was so nice to get a Miami Jones fix!!
Miami goes back north, to home to see his old Coach, from High School. Turns out, Coach has retired. But not all is well. Miami finds out, that a guy he went to school with and played football with, has scammed Coach out of his retirement money!!
Can Miami solve the problem and get the money back?? Can his friends, back home in Florida help him??
You'll just have to read this book to find out...lol
AWESOME read, start to finish!!

I’ve always loved the Miami Jones series. But I think this one knocked my socks off. You really got to see what made Miami the kind of person he is today. Family is not just blood, it’s also the people you surround yourself with that makes up your family. And Miami was going to do whatever it took to to help them. Well written and definitely kept me interested. Looking forward to another great story.

I have been enjoying the Miami Jones series but in many ways this is the best one yet. It hearkens back Robert B. Parker's Spenser series, but is very much its own. I've missed Parker's Spenser since his passing and am thrilled to find a new series that scratches this itch, but in a much better way. Miami Jones is a much more believable protagonist than Spenser ever was. I have read four Miami Jones books in the last month and am eagerly awaiting more in this series.

Thanksgiving odyssey

I enjoyed learning more about Miami’s history and the people who helped make him the standup guy that he is. As always a great plot with believable twists and turns and with great people by Miami’s side.
Thank you Mr Stewart, for the wonderful characters and the exciting lives that they live. And I never thought one of your excellent stories would make me cry, but this one did.

Sure hoping for more

When I read the last Travis McGee's, it was obvious Mr. MacDonald knew his time with us was near and it was time to tie up loose ends.
Somehow, I see some of that in this book and hope Mr. Stewart plans to continue Miami and Danielle 's journey. All three have a lot of life still to live.

I have read all 10 of the Miami Jones books. I enjoyed each of them. They are not going to replace the greatest literature of all time, but they are truly enjoyable. There is suspense, fun, humor, romance, and some solid detective work in the book. I look forward to hopefully continuing to read these as they are publishes.

Miami Jones is ok

When I started reading this series it was out of desperation. No longer. I am now hooked. As I read each one, I get an education into a new area of the "sporting world" and its criminal periphery. Some exciting, some romantic but mostly fun. Thanks A.J. Stewart i will be around for a while!!!

People, real people. Believable characters. Emotions. Real life.

The story is real, about real
people, with real emotions and believable situations. You sense danger, but even people doing bad things have a sense of right from evil. Love, love Miami's conversations with himself.

Book 10 in the series

Miami goes back East to help his high school coach and mentor out of a bad situation. There are bad guys who want their money back but Miami’s classmate made a bad investment and doesn’t have it so Miami steps in to try to solve the problem. A great story.

A note on "Redshirt"

I have read several of Mr. Stewart's books, and while I have enjoyed them all immensely, Red Shirt was the best. Mr. Stewart has a way of bringing a story out and putting you into it that is difficult to describe. I would recommend Red Shirt unconditionally. I would also recommend any of the other books. I have read by Mr. Stewart.

Great main character

You can always enjoy this author's wit. The main character of this series is an observer of life and he makes remarks or thinks funny and ironic things about what he sees. Very enjoyable reading.

I have enjoyed A.J. Stewart’s Miami Jones series from the first book. Red Shirt is no exception. The growth in Miami as he has dealt with his friends and the adrenaline fueled stories come together in an exciting way every time. Of course it helps that A.J. Stewart is a Very good writer.

Always a fun read

AJ never disappoints. This series always keeps me reading. Realistic down to earth characters. A different setting and a glimpse into Miami's early years. Can't wait for the next one.

A very good read

This series may not win an editor's award or be turned into a movie - BUT, it is a very good read based on a character who is contagious to follow through his many adventures

He needed to say " Thank You ".

A compelling story of old friends, old places and old mentors. I like that Miami is a person. Not an action hero, but a person. I felt the feeling of the people and the place. A well written book that takes you to the story. I think you'll like it.

Miami Returns North

A Thanksgiving-time tale of Miami returning to his Nor'easter roots for a case. A case with a lot of heart. A case that's one of his best adventures ever. A lot to be thankful for in this tale. Bravo!

A great story that has plenty of twists and surprises but also takes the reader back to Miami’s childhood and does a wonderful job of showing how Miami’s childhood helped mold him into who he is as an adult! A very enjoyable adventure and a great look at Miami’s past!!

This was a great book

I enjoyed reading about Miami Jones's past! It finally made sense about some of the past references he would make about his childhood and why he didn't want to return to his hometown.

Canned turkey

Retirees being taken advantage of pisses me off probably because I am semi retired. In this story more of MJ's backstory is revealed and more about the influencers in his life. Sal plays an important part in this story!
