The book of Nahum is a prophacy against Nineveh. This is a book about The Lord's terrible wrath against His enamies and how no man can stand under it. Nineveh must fall and The Lord shall lift up the House Of Judah. I highly recommend this book.
Such a great image of the power of God, and how He will bring peace and righteousness to the earth.
“The Lord is good, a strong hold in the day of trouble; and he knoweth them that trust in him.”
“Behold upon the mountains the feet of him that bringeth good tidings, that publisheth peace! O Judah, keep thy solemn feasts, perform thy vows: for the wicked shall no more pass through thee; he is utterly cut off.”
“The Lord is slow to anger, and great in power, and will not at all acquit the wicked:”
oof. God (and the prophet) are not well-pleased with Nineveh. This book needs to be read in conjunction with Jonah, where the warning of the Lord results in repentance and forgiveness. But Nineveh, later continuing its evil empire ways, eventually reaps the consequences of its actions and is destroyed. So end all empires. Let the reader understand.
Many perhaps do not realize this book of the Holy Writ is in some ways a sequel to the book of Jonah though the latter was written some 70 years earlier. The great revival in Nineveh had long been over and Nineveh had returned [albeit a different generation] to its heathen ways and persecution of God's people, hence the pronouncement of God's judgment upon them. God is merciful but God is also holy and this time Nineveh did not repent and thus the judgment of God would fall on them.
