He’s the heir to an elite hotel throne. I’m an artist with a dark past.
In the public eye, he’s straight… but not when he’s with me.
The Terrance Hotel is high society. Cutthroat. Everything I usually avoid.
I’m only working here for the money, then I’m getting the hell out.
But for Adrian, the hotel is his empire.
He’s back in town to inherit, and now he’s my boss.
Quickly becoming my obsession.
That old spark between us? Now it’s pure, white-hot fire.
I know what he tastes like. His lips, his skin, his tongue.
He was the first man I ever kissed, back in school. It was our secret… and then he left.
I became a monster on a road to self-destruction.
Now I’m trying to erase my past.
Adrian knew me back then, when we shared a secret that his family never knew.
He’s being pulled into this wealthy, golden cage. His family demands him to be their legacy—straight, and certainly not with a rebellious, artistic heathen like me.
He’s off-limits.
But I’ll watch this whole world burn before I let him go.

Still Yours is a 85,000-word MM romance about two men who don’t belong together, but would die for each other anyway. It takes place in an elite hotel owned by a rich, dysfunctional family, and is the first book set in the Mistview Heights world, but can absolutely be read as a standalone novel.

~2.5~

This book had a promising beginning, but fizzled as the story progressed.

Josh was a pushover, a trait that wasn't in line with his tough guy, been there, done that persona.

Adrian's personality was flat and not well developed. He was still scared of mommy and daddy ten years after striking out on his own.

I didn't believe in the relationship. Some of the dialogue was painfully cheesy. The guys used each other's name a whole lot.

The plot related to Josh's former hookup Cheetah was ridiculous. I don't buy for a second that the executives would have allowed such extortion. Also, I wanted to punch Cheetah in the face.

I'm being negative, but the story wasn't all bad. There were a few sweet and hot moments. The epilogue was very nice. Um ... yeah, that's all I can think of.

A little ridiculous in terms of grown folks acting like kids. The premise was a little far fetched for me in terms that I just don't believe in that much blind duty to crazy parents. Adrian really needed to act like a grown up much sooner than he did. Overall not bad.

This book is so contrived. Mistview Heights is in New York, and the idea that people would give a shit about an upscale hotel owner being gay is utterly ridiculous. It's a much bigger issue that he's dating a housekeeper on his staff. Even so, the fact that Adrian and Josh are so obsessed with each other after having spent a few hours together ten years ago, is too much to believe.

Author Raleigh Ruebins presents some familiar category romance themes in Still Yours: a second chance at first love, a host of obstacles before the happy ending, and the core conflict being Adrian's denial of his sexuality.

Adrian is set to inherit ownership of the Terrance Hotel, a place founded by his grandpop under a very different business model to the way the hotel is operated now (Adrian calling him ‘grandpop’ is a clear indication of the warmth and hominess we should associate with the sort of man Grandpop was and what he brought to his business). Under Adrian’s parents' influence, however, the property has become synonymous with luxury and serving an elite clientele. In other words, the Terrance is as puffed up and pretentious as Adrian's parents are, and they are obsessed with the hotel's image as well as the family's interests—not in Adrian's or his siblings' best interests but for the Terrance brand.

At issue at the outset of the story is that eighteen-year-old Adrian wants nothing to do with the Terrance, his parents, or the city of Mistview Heights. Adrian's post-prep school plan is to move to Oregon to escape his future as heir to the family business. Even if it means he does little more than scrape out a meager living, it will be his life lived on his terms. And his plan worked, for ten years, but Adrian is twenty-eight now, effectively broke, and his parents are retiring and no longer willing to tolerate Adrian's prodigal son routine. So he, with no few misgivings, returns to Mistview Heights and the scene of his greatest regret, to the place where he, in order to save his own skin all those years before, humiliated Josh Crane and broke his heart.

Josh is as familiar a character as Adrian to anyone who reads in this genre. He was the kid in high school everyone ignored. He was the nerdy outcast who was also an incredibly gifted artist. Josh had plans to attend a respected art school, which he did. And then dreamed of making a living creating and selling his work, which he did not. Instead, Josh became a drug addict whose past keeps coming back to haunt him, even though he's clean now and is gainfully employed in hotel housekeeping at the Terrance. Coming face to face with Adrian upon Adrian’s return rekindles Josh's memories of their first beautiful disaster of a kiss and the forgiveness that ten years of perspective has offered him, blunting the hatred he'd felt for Adrian all those years before.

Ruebins serves readers an angsty romance complicated by Adrian recognizing but refusing to acknowledge that his sexual relationships with men, not to mention his deepening feelings for Josh, means he isn't altogether as straight as he's attempting to pass himself off as being. Adrian believes his only path through life, as the owner and front-facing representative of the Terrance Hotel, is to marry a socially well-connected woman then spend the rest of his life making nice with investors and the wealthy old patrons of the hotel. And if it means sacrificing Josh again in the process, well, needs must, which leads to one of my primary issues with the story: Adrian’s infantalization.

I absolutely understood the author’s aim in presenting Adrian as rudderless and beholden to the family legacy, but it would have worked better for me if he’d been younger than his twenty-eight years. I had a difficult time respecting Adrian for not standing up to his parents, especially his overbearing mother, which is not the fault of the author but, rather, is my own personality and personal peeves influencing my relationship to the character. What kept Adrian from being completely irredeemable was the fact that he was trying so hard to do the right thing even as he grew more miserable by the day for it. Adrian has a soft heart, he never acts out of malice, and it's imminently clear he isn't cut out for the sometimes incompassionate actions required of a business owner, which also went a fair way in my ability to tolerate his constant kowtowing to his mother. Until, finally, he's had enough and takes control of his future, coming out in a public way even though he knew it was too late to claim Josh for his own.

Overall, there were more things I enjoyed than disliked about Still Yours. If I take one more minor issue with it, it's a technical one in the author's overuse of ellipses and em dashes, which forced too many mental pauses that made the dialogue read unnecessarily choppy. Apart from that additional and admittedly personal grievance, this novel achieved its storytelling objective, offering a nice bit of escapism.

William Shatner used less ellipsis

Oh my.... there...were...so...many...ellipsis! Can these people speak without pausing like William Shatner every half sentence!? The story was ok.... I guess. Nothing special or notable about it. Adrien is a rich kid who didn’t want to be rich and was oblivious to his sexual preferences for his entire adolescent life, then lived deep in the closet for 10 years. Josh is an ex druggie artist who works for the hotel’s house cleaning staff. They met one night when they were 18 for a couple hours and destiny was made... apparently. For me, the overwhelming number of ellipsis used in this story made everyone appear weak and uncertain...ALL THE TIME. Plus, the way they spoke, using phrases like “You do not” instead of “you don’t” made everything seem even less appealing. They’re in their late 20, not 70+. It’s 2019, we don’t do proper grammar; in casual conversation as the very least. I probably wouldn’t read another book by this author.

💕🔥Really enjoyed this one, especially the opening chapters and the last few.
Plenty of angst and drama between openly gay artist Josh who has been through the wringer, including drugs, heavy partying, and the end of his artistic career, and moved on, and conflicted, privileged businessman Adrian who wants to keep their connection secret to maintain his heterosexual image. I loved artist Josh and tolerated hotel magnate Adrian for Josh's sake. Adrian could be a real jerk at times! If only an "I'm so sorry" always mended things.

With a good plot, plenty of stolen, intimate moments, some supportive friends, a rocky relationship to parents that needs some rapprochement, a spiteful and self destructive blast from Josh's past, and a hard fought HEA, this was not my favorite book by the author (see the Under the Stars or Rose Falls series for some of my favorites) but it was a moving yarn that hooked my emotions as I rooted for Josh. The part about his mom's hearing aid was one of the moments that firmly cemented my affection for Josh, a good-to-the-marrow hero.:-)

I read a complimentary advance copy of the book; this is my voluntary and honest review.

2,5 stars, rounded up

The beginning was promising - I liked the style and that's always important to me when I read a book by an author I don't know yet. I don't know what exactly happened, though, because I stopped really enjoying it after the first glance in the past was over and the characters were grown up - well, at least physically. Can't speak for their mental age, because they didn't exactly act like adults most of the time.

Josh - the ex druggie artist - is supposed to be badass and hardened by his past, but he's a bit of a pushover. Adrian is also a pushover - I mean he lived on the other side of the country to escape his shitty family, but when they wave with a couple of bills he comes running back to run a multimillion company even though he doesn't even know the slightest bit about the hotel business (apart from the stuff he knew from living there as an apparently unwanted kid...)
Alora has a degree, experience and really wanted to do this, but the parents want Adrian? Why? I really don't get it. Besides, Adrian is an asshole and a coward. I really had a hard time liking him... it just got slightly better when he finally stood up to his horrible parents.

Then there's this weird thing about Cheetah, Josh's ex-hookup.

I guess I'll try something else by this author, but this one wasn't all that great story & character-wise.

* I was given an ARC copy in exchange for an honest review *

It is a good start for a new series and I can't wait for Mason's story!
It is a love story about second chances and it is very fairy tale-y, like a modern, m/m Cinderella :)
This is a story about Josh, sexy, out and proud talented painter with complicated past and a shady "friend" meeting his high school crush - rich, deeply closeted hotel owner. Their chemistry is great, they are pretty likable (even though Adrian WAS a little bit annoying with his inability to make the right decision faster) and I was glad to see them happy and in love in the end.

This is a sweet, romantic and enjoyable book that made me smile and laugh. It is well written and fast paced. In the same time it is not the most believable story, I wish Josh and Adrian had spent more time together before meeting again.

I fully recommend it to everyone who needs something relaxing and sweet.

Raleigh Ruebins is a very good writer. I would like to give her 5-stars but she uses the word "that" constantly in her writing when is totally unnecessary. It becomes a distraction. When you read her books, delete the word "that" - except when it is in a quote of someone speaking - and you will see it reads better without it. I have read two of her books and they are great stories. She has quite an imagination. They seem so true to life and the struggles we go through. "Still Yours" is a story of something someone goes through. It's very real. I am reading Mistview Heights, #2 and I find it just as intriguing. That said, I think that if she would carefully consider that the distraction that gets into her writing could be carefully eliminated, that would help the person that reads her work. I WILL continue to read her works. I write this as an author myself with a cum laude degree in Creative Writing.

This is a great start to a new series and I really enjoyed it. Josh and Adrian come from completely different worlds but even ten years after they first meet they cannot deny the chemistry between them. Josh has overcome so much to get to where he is now and he deserves someone who can love him without having to hide. Adrian doesn't think he can be himself and take over his family's hotel. Their journey is full of angst and obstacles but they have a chance at an amazing relationship if Adrian can face his fears and Josh can forgive him. I love the ending and I am looking forward to reading Mason's story.

I voluntarily reviewed an advanced reader copy of this book. Josh and Adrian go way back. After Highscholl separates them they re-meet by accidentally a decade later. The both of them still worlds apart. When push comes to shove the basic question is whether Adrian will stand by Josh's side or if his legacy will force him to neglet his self... A very comforting though ruled-by-a-conservative-family story I enjoyed reading.

Still yours is a second chance romance. Adrian and Josh go their seperate ways after high school and an unexpected turn of events find them back together. Adrain is still hiding who he is and trying to be what his family wants him to be. Josh is a recovering drug addict just trying to get his life back.
Adrian finally choices to be who he is meant to be but, is it to late to win Josh back.
This is a sweet heartwarming read.

I was thrilled to start a new Raleigh Ruebins series and it didn't disappoint. I loved it and can't wait to read more. This story was beautifully written, full of emotion, some steamy bits and had me in years. I couldn't put it down.

Adrian and Josh's story starts with a magical night at the end of secondary school, a night that send them on different paths. Ten years later their paths cross again, giving them a second chance of being together.

It took me a while to get into this, every time I thought something interesting was going to happen it just kind of fizzled out making it take forever to take things to pick up. The second half was definitely better but I still felt like some of the conflicts were just kind of glossed over and forgotten about but at least some of them were addressed. I also expected Sean to play a bigger role but he's hardly in this and that left me scratching my head.

Love lasts!

I really enjoyed this story. I don't usually go for the ' we haven't seen each other in years' tagline. But this book has changed my mind. These two men each grew and matured in their time apart. There feelings for each other never went away. And the journey they took back to each other was painful, beautiful and sexy. Great read! I could not put it down.

Josh & Adrian...That was crazy!

R.R. does it again, and this time in Mistview Heights Book 1, with Josh and Adrian!

This romance was 10 years in the making (from meeting at Adrian's graduation party), sharing their first kiss with each other, to drug use, denial, fear, friendship, to finally love, and it was all so worth it!

More than 3 strikes, Andrian should be dropped for good!

I'd say since Josh keeps giving in to the crap Andrian gives him, it's time to say enough is enough and GOODBYE! I'm also
done reading this book on page 177. See/hear it too much in real life, why would I want to read about it.
