Hockey star Brett Sillinger's never been afraid of a little trouble. But when his personal life ends up in the tabloids, he knows his career is on thin ice. Luckily, a new team decides to take a chance on him. All he has to do is keep head in the game. But when temptation walks up wearing black knee-high boots, looking for one night of nameless, no-strings passion, well, what's a guy to do?
Chelsea London is looking to misbehave. What's being good ever gotten her, besides getting dumped and passed over for a big promotion at work? But her one delicious night of rebellion has unexpected consequences--her hot one-night stand is the latest addition to her father's hockey team. And suddenly, one night of bad-girldom isn't nearly enough.
But one false move, and Brett might spend this season in the penalty box...
I kid you not my iPad was at risk over overheating here as Taryn Leigh Taylor combines light and easy romance with hot and steamy sexy-times between a couple whose chemistry blazes bright from the moment they set eyes on one another.
Better hold on tight, Red. I’m about to blow the house down.”
What starts out as a good-girl-bad-boy one night tryst involving no names is soon tipped on it’s head when Chelsea London, the Montana Wolfpack’s events director realises the man who showed her the very best of times is the teams newest signing, Brett Sillinger. He needs to keep his head down and his focus on the game, she wants to rebel a little having being recently dumped, and neither can stay away from the other.
There’s no getting away from the fact that this did come with an air of predictability, but that doesn’t detract from the fact that Taking a Shot delivers a little bit of everything and I devoured it. Taryn Leigh Taylor is a new-to-me-author and having discovered this is a spin-off from her Harlequin Between the Books series, I’ve already been on a one-click spree, ready to dive in for more sexy hockey player action and I’m hoping we’re treated for more from the Montana Wolfpack in the future—there’s definitely a wealth of possibility.
I promise to give you multiple happy endings first.”

Taking a Shot is the first book I have read by Taryn Leigh Taylor, I love a good romance based around sports men and/or women, and the Montana Wolfpack ice hockey team offers up plenty of potential for future books (here’s hoping).
One night with a handsome stranger…
No Names.
No commitments.
No regrets…
Bad Boy of Ice Hockey Brett Sillinger has been traded to the Wolfpack and the message is clear upon his arrival, in that any erroneous drama, screw-ups or tabloid scandals will potentially mean the end of his career.
He wasn’t in Montana to get laid… He needed to keep his head in the game…
So finding out the woman he had a no-strings ONS with on his first night in town is the team owner’s daughter, does not get him off to the stay-under-the-radar start he was hoping for.
"Being good all the time has gotten me nowhere."
Especially as the chemistry between them is off the charts, and they for some reason keep ending up in compromising positions, which often end up with them being naked with each other…
"It’s too late to change what happened, and now I don’t want to stay away…"
I really enjoyed this one, the only minor whinge I have about it is the fact it reminded me of so many other books I have read based on the same themes. Because of that there’s not much about the story-line that wasn’t easy to predict, but I really liked both of the characters, and the author keeps you interested and engaged in their story because of that, and the fact the plot was quick paced and everything moved along steadily. The drama was low-key levels, which is something else that I appreciate, but it was relevant but not overplayed when it did happen.
He’d spent so much time moving, he’d never realized the value of stillness before…
I am hoping that the publisher and the author have more ideas for the Wolfpack in the works, the basis for the Team has been well set with this one, as well as plenty of secondary single characters that could be paired off in future books.

I'm a massive fan of Taylor's previous hockey books written for Harlequin Blaze so when that Harlequin category closed I didn't think I would get to enjoy any more in the series but thankfully we now get to enjoy Brett's story in a spinoff series.
Hope there are more books to come about the Montana Wolfpacks!
So I am so excited to review this book. It's been a while since I read a steamy romance book and I have to say that this made up for the lost time. In the book we follow hockey star Brett who tries to get back at his feet after some publicity scandal. Fortunately, he is accepted in a team. However, he sleeps with the boss's daughter, Chelsea, and then can't seem to get her out of his system and mind. But if people find out, then that would be the end of his career. I have to say that I really enjoyed the setting and backround of this book. The characters are really well-written and they have the depth and personality to make them unique. I think that both of them are perfect fits for the story. I love reading about their connection. It's impossible to ignore. You know sparks and fireworks and everything. I really enjoyed 'watching' their relationship blossom and become something more and something that both of them couldn't deny. The steamy scenes that this book has don't disappoint the reader. If not they are really pleasing to read. Although, if you aren't comfortable with reading them then this book isn't for you. I really liked reading them. One thing that I loved about this book is the support that Brett's teammates show him after some situations that really put him under the spotlight. I don't know anything about the friendship between teammates since I haven't been a team before but I think that I loved this part of the book. People supporting people in order for peace to exist.
Wow, just WOW. this book will have you hooked from page one. And let me tell you it did. It was paced out perfectly never did i feel rushed while reading this book. I finished this book in 2hrs, it was that good. Love love love.
Brett was not my favorite in his sister’s book, but I loved him in this book with Chelsea. Sexy, romantic, and fun. Cannot wait for more books from this author!
FTC DISCLAIMER: I RECEIVED AN E-ARC FROM THE AUTHOR THROUGH NET GALLEY. I VOLUNTARILY OFFER MY HONEST REVIEW OF THE BOOK, THOUGH IT IS NOT EXPECTED OF ME! RECEIPT OF THIS BOOK IN THIS MANNER DOES NOT AFFECT MY OPINION OF THE BOOK OR THE CONTENT OF MY REVIEW!
I'd never heard of this author before, but she asked for ARC readers in one of the Facebook groups I'm in and I thought I would give it a try. I was actually surprised by the book!
The first thing I noticed about the book is actually something somewhat detrimental to it. There were references that this book was part of a larger universe that had been written previously. For someone as OCD about series as I am, this meant that, in my mind, this was not a stand alone book, and I needed to go find those previous books before I could fully enjoy this one. Unfortunately, I had already started it, and knew I had to get it done on a schedule, so I stuck it out and read the book, but it was an annoyance for me.
All that being said, once I pushed past the annoyance, I actually really enjoyed the book! There was plenty of sizzle between Brett and Chelsea, and while the romance moved quickly, the readers weren't really short changed because of it. I loved how Chelsea found the courage to stand up for herself and her relationship with Brett to those she loved, and how they eventually came around to her side of things. Brett was a great character, and I loved that some of his depth of character was explored. It's not something you see often in a sports romance book!
I must say that this is a good introduction to the author's work! It's made me interested in seeking out her other works to find out what the whole story is!
Taking a Shot is the first book I’ve read by this author but apparently, reading more information about the series, I’ve found Brett was one of the most requested characters fans asked to get his own book. And I can definitely see why. Brett and Chelsea have undeniable chemistry that you can almost feel popping off the page. As a first read, it caught my attention and held it for the entire read.
Brett Sillinger is a hockey player that is on the back end of a very illustrious career. After a few bad choices, including a disastrous marriage, he is starting over at a franchise in Montanta. After landing in his new “hometown” he makes his way to the hotel bar to relax and unwind thinking he’d find himself alone. Too bad a marketing convention had just let out and the men hightailed it to the hotel bar. He was starting to use that “cursed” word again when a gorgeous woman bumped into him spilling his drink. Well, this could change things.
Chelsea London was tired of being the good girl. Tired of having lists and clipboards and doing or saying the right thing all the time. After her ex broke up with her for being too “boring” she finds herself on a mission. A one night stand kinda mission. It goes against everything she feels right down deep in her soul but she needs to try something wild for once. She picks the perfect spot, a hotel bar with lonely men attending a marketing conference and away she goes. Too bad these men are totally not doing anything for her libido. She wants fire, she wants spark, instant attraction that happens once in a lifetime. Bump And there he is.
Brett and Chelsea, though seemingly opposite on paper, find themselves in all too familiar surroundings and expectations. They both fight the attraction they have for one another tooth and nail but realize in the end, they are who they both want and need in their life. Fairytales and clipboards, who knew they made they best combinations.
4.5 star read for Taking a Shot (Montana Wolfpack series) from this reader. I received a copy without expectation for review that I enjoyed very much. I will be adding this author to my go to list of authors for the future. Any and all opinions expressed above are my own.

I have to say that this book really surprised me. I chose it because of the cover and because it was a hockey romance and that is my favorite kind of romance to read. The author did a really great job writing this book and getting the message out that it is not okay to cyber bully people in anyway. This book was about Chelsea and Brett. Both of them were a little broken inside because of things that happened in their pasts and also because of things that people said and did to them. Chelsea was a really great person. She was sweet and she really only wanted someone to love her but she didn't realize that is what she was really looking for. Brett was this hot hockey player that many people judge because of past mistakes he made. He was given a second chance in his hockey career and he was determined not to blow it this time. When Chelsea and Brett meant it was in a bar where Chelsea was looking for a guy to have a one night stand with. Fate took her to Brett. Chelsea got her one night stand and she left in the middle of the night without even exchanging names or phone numbers. The next night she ran into Brett and again and things really heated up. This book was just amazing from start to finish. It was a story about 2 people that were looking for something in life and ended up finding something that they really were not looking for and really didn't know they had. It is about these 2 people finding a peace of mind they didn't know was possible but fighting against it. It is about so many other things. So much miscommunication and misunderstandings that it leaves you reading and reading until you realize the book has ended and then you are just sad because there is no more to read. I really really hope that Taryn Leigh Taylor writes more books about the guys on this hockey team because I was left with the feeling of wanting more and that means it was an amazing book. Thanks NetGalley.I voluntarily reviewed this book in exchange for an honest review.
Hockey denfenseman Brett Sillinger likes to push the limits on the ice, and off, but his latest little mishap has cost him a spot on the team, and lots of money in divorce court. After having his name splashed across the tabloids there aren't many teams that will take a chance on him because of the negative publicity and his wild antics as of late, but then he gets the call that he is being sent to Montana. He decides it's time to take this opportunity he's been given and make the most of it, first thing he needs to do is slow down on his partying and and focus on hockey... no distractions! But his little plan takes an unexpected turn when a gorgeous woman with undeniable charm pulls up a seat beside him at the bar... so much for no distractions!
Chelsea London is the quintessential good girl, always doing what is expected of her, never straying from the plan put in front of her, and never doing anything wild or questionable. And for a while this life has worked for her, but then she goes through a eye opening break-up and it leaves her feeling a little restless, and in the mood to walk on the wild side, just for a night or two of course! When she sets out on her little mission of fun she never expects it to completely change the course of her life... but it does, the moment her eyes land on Brett she is a goner!
Taking a Shot is sultry little literary romp that delivers on many fronts; it's brimming with emotion to speak to your heart, steamy times to weaken the knees, and has a beautifully crafted story line to take you on a thoroughly satisfying literary escape!! This was a very impressive first time read for me, it scored some serious points, being that it centered around hockey for one, but the characters were downright AMAZING, and of course the writing was completely absorbing, I devoured this one in a matter of hours. I was beyond excited to discover that this was the start of a new series, I cannot wait for the next installment, and have the opportunity to meet more of the men from the Montana WolfPack series, especially if this is any indication as to what will be waiting for me! Highly recommend this one!!!
I requested an advanced copy of this title from NetGalley, and I am voluntarily leaving my honest opinion.
A planner, so much so that she researches and plans her one night stand. The bad boy, who once traded from his NHL team, is determined to screw his head on straight and play the straight and narrow. One night, one unforgettable night is all it’s going to be, right?
Chelsea London was tired of being the “good” girl. She had worked so hard to do everything so right and make sure that everything was just so and where had it gotten her? She didn’t get the promotion that she was sure she would. She had a very staid relationship until he broke up with her for his TA. She needed one night. One really good “bad” night to let her live.
Brett Sillinger didn’t mean to turn into the bad boy of hockey, but a cocky kid with no one to guide him? What happened happened and now he was paying for it. A divorce, a trade and now threats that if he doesn’t keep his nose clean he was done. So sitting alone in his hotel contemplating his next steps when she shows up, one more night can’t hurt, can it?
One night, one anonymous night, that was all it was supposed to be. What happens when that one night turns into more? What happens when fun and games turn into feelings and reality?
Ms. Taylor has gifted her readers with a book about romance and consequence. This novel takes the reader in from the moment you open the cover and keeps you wanting to turn the pages faster to learn more, while being sad that the pages are fewer. This isn’t a hockey book or even a hockey romance though, while it does briefly touch it this is more a story about two people who have to figure out who they are and how they are moving forward. There are great twists throughout the storyline but the one near the end will make you want to get up and do something (after you finish the book that is). This is an outstanding novel and well worth a trip to one click land.
when bad boy brett sillinger gets one last shot at a team to keep his hockey career alive in taking a shot, he's determined to avoid distractions and the unwanted media attention that got him his reputation in the first place. the truth about brett is that he's actually a really good guy whose image problem has little to do with who he is as a person, and more about how circumstances out of his control have made him look bad.
meanwhile, chelsea london wants to take a walk on the wild side. a one night stand should be enough to prove to herself and her lame ex that she is not boring. she doesn't know the man at the bar is the latest addition to her father's hockey team. even more confusing is the intensity of the connection between them. it's supposed to be just one night. but somehow she keeps finding her way back into brett's bed. into his life too.
the more she sees of him, the clearer it is that brett doesn't deserve his reputation. he's one of the good guys. maybe she'd been looking to walk on the wild side. but there's something about the wildness between them that is oh-so-good.
i really enjoyed this hockey romance. brett is such a sweetheart of a guy, and you really feel for him when things go sideways. because a lot of what goes wrong is entirely out of his control. and his relationship with chelsea is beautifully developed.
**taking a shot will publish on september 10, 2018. i received an advance reader copy courtesy of netgalley/entangled publishing (brazen) in exchange for my honest review.
Taking A Shot, by new to me author Taryn Leigh Taylor, is a hot, well-written sports romance. The two main characters, event planner Chelsea London, and professional hockey player Brett Sillinger, spend a passionate night together. The day after their one night stand, they find out that they both work for the same hockey team, of which Chelsea is the owner's daughter. Due to the antics of Brett's ex-wife and the paparazzi, Brett is lucky to still be playing hockey. He has to earn the trust of his new teammates and keep his nose clean, which means staying away from Chelsea.
Chelsea has always been a "good girl" and never upsets the status quo. She is in charge of planning and overseeing the team's charitable events, and ensures that every detail is perfectly executed. She is a workaholic and a perfectionist. When her incompetent brother receives the promotion she believes she deserves, Chelsea decides to shed her nice reputation for an evening of lust. She and Brett have an amazing chemistry, which evolves into much more.
Chelsea and Brett make a nice couple, and I was cheering for them from the moment I felt their feelings for one another. Ms. Taylor creates the perfect balance of plot, passion, and character development. Overall, this is a sexy read with two main characters that compliment each other with their differences. The only thing missing is an epilogue.
Complimentary copy provided by the publisher via NetGalley.
I LOVED this book. The chemistry these two had was amazing.
I could relate to Chelsea in so many ways. She is the dependable, hardworking, overlooked “yes” woman who has always been a good girl. After a devastating announcement, she decides that for one night, she isn’t going to be the good girl. This is how she meets Brett.
Brett is a man who can’t catch a break. Some of his issues are of his own doing but for the most part he is a good guy who gets himself into situations that don’t paint him in the best light. After being traded he is at a hotel bar one night where he meets a woman that is the opposite of what usually interest him.
I loved that he knew right away that this wasn’t her “normal” thing but he indulges her. He gave her the sexy times she so desperately wanted. He allowed her to be “naughty” in a safe way. We as a reader know that he is a good guy.
When these two strangers find out the next day that they must work together, this is where the fun begins. Both are trying to prove something apart all the while the chemistry is pulling them together.
I loved Chelsea's character. Her tendency toward overcompensation ("'I made breakfast.' So. Much. Breakfast." LOL, yes she did...) and babbling when nervous paired with her desire to be a "bad girl" when she's really anything but was endearing. Brett was the perfect hero for her, and their back-and-forth conversation had me LOLing over and over again. And their chemistry? Spot on!
Add in hockey, and really, what more can you want?
Brett's the younger brother of a character from an earlier book by Ms. Taylor (Lainie from Playing Dirty), which I not only added to my TBR but picked up a copy of before I was much past the 50% mark. So though this was my first book from this author, it definitely won't be my last!
Rating: 4 stars / A-
I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.
I ended up loving Taking a Shot and I need more books in this series NOW! There were a couple of chapters very early on that meandered a bit, and I came very close to DNFing but I am so glad I persevered. This ended up being fun, sexy, romantic, and just all around an enjoyable read. Brett is 100% my type of hero (alpha, a little vulnerable, a lot fun and sexy - SO SEXY) and I loved how his teammates came to support him in the end. Great use of secondary characters right there, and I definitely want to see more than a few of them get their HEA's. I also liked that Chelsea's relationship with her dad had some conflict without going overboard and that it took very little for him to come around. Shanna annoyed me to no end, but she redeemed herself by the book's conclusion, I thought. Also thought the author dealt with the leaked video of Brett in a clever way; definitely could have taken a been there/done path to resolving it but this was well done. Mostly, I was thrilled that these secondary plot points stayed secondary to the romance. Really hope there isn't a long wait until the next book in the series is released!
Chelsea and Brett heat up the ice in this premier book of the Montana Wolfpack series by Taryn Leigh Taylor!
Right from the beginning, Taking A Shot grabs you and you won't want to put it down! I loved the bar-scene awkwardness when Chelsea dresses up for a one night stand to meet a stranger, can't get a drink, and then ends up hooking up with Brett, who "blows her house down". Then when he ends up being a new player on her father's hockey team. and the heart dropping realization of the relationship of their jobs...AWESOME! The banter added into this book with the hockey players gave me some laugh out loud moments, and the nickname "Red" for Chelsea was sexy and perfect for her!
This book has all the feels! From anxiety, lust, heartbreak, love, sex, drama...aaahhh...soooo good!
Taryn does an amazing job writing hockey books (which happens to be one of my FAVORITE genres!) The supporting characters and a prelude to their upcoming stories were great and have me anxiously waiting the next books in the series!
Charity worker Chelsea London just wanted one night of rebellion after her brother got the promotion that she wanted when she meets a guy at the bar and spends the night with him without giving her name leaving in the morning without waking him up.
Hockey player Brett Sillinger knew he was on thin ice because the Montana Wolfpack was the only team interested in giving him a contract after his former team released him. Brett wanted just to lay low but he meets a woman at the hotel bar and after she spent the night he meets her the next day at the team’s headquarters.
If you like Catherine Gayle and Toni Aleo hockey romances, you will like Taryn Leigh Taylor. The Montana Wolfpack series is a spin-off of her Portland Storm series.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
We have Brett and Chelsea, they have a wild night together only to realize later on that they have to work in the same company and that she’s the boss’ daughter. A big no-no for Brett.
I liked these two, you could tell there was real chemistry between them and that it was pretty much impossible to stop even though the had to. There were some ups and downs for them, but all in all it was fun and sexy times for them.
There was a situation at the end, that happened to Brett and I was happy for Chelsea’s reaction and help. It really could’ve taken a turn for the worse. I was glad she found her passion again, and that Brett finally realized he wasn’t ‘cursed’.
All in all, a fast and sexy read.
*Thank you to Entangled Publishing for providing a copy for which I’m giving my honest opinion*
I always love discovering authors whose writing style makes me happy and Taryn Leigh Taylor is just that kind of author. This story is very well written and while it's a fairly classic storyline she crafted characters that made the whole thing feel fresh and fun. Brett is the typical sports bad boy who has let his bad behavior get out of control. He knows this chance with the Wolfpack may be his last so he plans on keeping his head down and staying out of trouble. That plan goes right out the window when he realizes the woman he shared a passionate night with is actually the coach's daughter. Chelsea stepped out of her good girl world right into trouble but what a fun sexy way to do it!
A girl trying to be bad and a guy trying to be good. They meet and the chemistry is instant. They never realized that they would be seeing each other again. Boy oh boy do they see each other again. Chelsea is inexperienced and always the good girl and Brett has a reputation in the tabloids. What a combination when they get together and they try and keep it a secret. There are insecurities, challenges, and confidence busters and builders in this story and it has a happy ending. i love the re-introduction at the end of the story.
This was my first read by this author and I would continue to read Ms. Taylor in the future. I do recommend this book.
I received this advanced reader's copy in exchange for an honest review.
Taking a shot is the first book by Taryn for me. And if she keeps writing this way she will have me as a true follwer. Im a huge hockey fan so when i see hockey romance i get excited. Some do it right and some should never touch.... but this is done oh so right.
The story is interesting. Brett had been traded thanks to some poor personal choices he has made. Now making a home at a new team and everyone is waiting for him to mess up...well its not easy. Chelsea is good at being good. When her life seems to spiral her venture into being bad ends up being oh so right.
These two have great back and forth and their chemistry is great. The battles they are gonna face are not easy and seriously this book could have gone south very badly. It did not and was very good. Cant wait for more.
This is a highly entertaining, sexy romantic read. Jake & Chelsea indulge in a hot one night stand after she picks him up in a bar. Their chemistry is hot & intense. Unfortunately, as they discover the next day, their lives are intertwined. Jake is a new player for the Montana Wolfpack hockey team. He has a reputation & is on the verge of no team picking him up anymore. He needs to keep his head down & concentrate. Why can’t he keep his mind off of Chelsea?
Chelsea is the new Event Director for the Montana Wolfpack. Her father is the Coach & she took the job to help him get over her mother’s passing & his depression. The job maybe a bit beneath her & a little boring but she’s determined to do a good job. She keeps finding herself in strange situations with Jake. Why can’t she stay away from him?
I loved this book! The plot was fast paced. The dialogue was witty & sexy. Some of the situations they found themselves in were hilarious. I hope we hear more about the Wolfpack!
Taking A Shot by Taryn Leigh Taylor is absolutely amazing. What started out as a one night stand becomes a happily ever after. How is that possible? Out of this world chemistry, Sexual tension that can stroke a fire. Brett and Chelsea are amazing together. These pages will burn your fingers as you are reading them. You can't wait to find out the next place Chelsea is gonna turn into a bad girl and drag Brett to. I absolutely adored this book!
Taking a Shot is a sexy, flirty and fun story—exactly what I would expect from Taryn Leigh Taylor! I loved getting to know Chelsea and Brett. Their chemistry was off the charts but watching them fall in love despite trying not to, tugged at my heart. The path to happily ever after is not without its pitfalls so when I wasn’t panting or laughing, I was attempting to read through misty eyes.
I loved this story and can’t wait for more from this author!
I received an ARC from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
Taking a Shot (Montana Wolfpack) by Taryn Leigh Taylor Chelsea's looking to spread her wings. Brett is trying to tone himself down. When the right people meet at the wrong time, there's bound to be chaos. Like finding out your one night stand has a connection to your everyday life that could blow up in a very big way. Taking a Shot jump starts the heart with sex appeal, laughter and happily ever after. A fun way to get your flirt on.

It was hot some action some hockey playing everything rolled into an awesome read! Definitely don't miss out on this book! Thank you NetGalley and entangled publishers for sharing this book with me!
This is the first book that I’ve read by Taryn Leigh Taylor and I just loved this book. Brett might think he is cursed and ruins everything he touches but that soon changes when he meets Chelsea. Chelsea might be a planner and might have a to do list that she always follows but when she meets Brett she realizes that she doesn’t always have to follow a list. Brett and Chelsea are so cute cute together and I am glad even if they started off as a one night stand they still got their HEA. Taking a Shot is a must read!
***Received this ARC by NetGalley as an exchange for an honest review.
A good girl goes bad for one night. Chelsea London is tired of her boring life. For one night she will unleash the wild girl in her and hook up with a stranger. She finds the perfect prospect in Brett Sillinger. After a night of untamed passion, Brett thinks he'll never see the beautiful stranger who rocked his world. He couldn't be more wrong. Chelsea is his new boss' daughter. The girl means trouble in a good and bad way. And he should definitely stay away from trouble. Taking A Shot is a must-read steamy romance.
When it comes to Brett, Chelsea just can't help herself at times, “oh, God. I just molested you in an alcove during a work function.” Chelsea dropped her head against his shoulder. “I’m so sorry.” Brett likes to show his woman it's okay to get handsy with him, “you’re brilliant, and beautiful, and way too good for me.” He settled her palm against the front of his pants. “That’s because of you.” Brett gives some darn good analogies, “****jobs are like pizza. There’s pretty much no chance of you doing it wrong, because they’re all good.” I liked this book, I loved Brett.
