Stuck writing for the dull society pages, journalist Darcy Delacorte sets her sights on getting an interview with reclusive millionaire Micah Laine. While she expects the broody tycoon to be a challenge, she isn’t prepared for his dark charm or his price for the sordid details of his past—a price that begins with her spending a week alone with him. Micah may be a loner, but he’s not a monk, and there’s something about Darcy... He decides that if Darcy wants him to reveal his secrets, she’s going to have to reveal a little of herself. The bigger the revelation he offers up, the bigger the cost he’ll demand from her—a secret of her own, her wildest fantasies, a kiss. And that’s only for starters... But when Darcy reveals a vulnerability Micah never expected,he knows he should get away fast, or be in danger of losing his heart.

Two souls. Two stories to tell. One island. Seven days. If you’re fond of a story which has a brooding hero, a lady who is harbouring her own secrets, brings some revelations along the way and is very steamy to boot, then Nightingale most definitely ticks the boxes.

description

This isn’t my first foray in Jocelyn Adams’ writing, but the first contemporary romance I’ve read by her and I have to say her writing style is perfect for a modern day love story, creating just the right amount of angst and pain and balancing that with touching and passionate. And when journalist Darcy Delacorte shows her interest in writing about reclusive philanthropist, Micah Laine’s charitable foundation, she doesn’t expect him to call her bluff: he’ll share his story in exchange for a week of her company at his island home.

“I intend to explore every dark corner of you while you try to do the same to me.”

Micah and Darcy’s attraction to one another heated the pages nicely and, as they begin to open up to one another on a deeper personal level, it brings a warmth to their story that pulls at your heart. And whilst it all takes place over a relatively short period of time, it actually feels like these characters have known each other much much longer.

“I feel like I’m slowly waking up from a bad dream, and every time I open my eyes, you’re there like the dawn.”

Whilst I can’t deny that it was a little predictable, particularly heading towards the end, there’s no denying that Nightingale was another enjoyable story from Jocelyn Adams and I look forward to seeing what she brings her readers next.

This book surprised me. I loved the whole premise and it was an easy read from the beginning.

Darcy is a reporter looking to make a difference in the world when she gets her big chance to interview Micah Laine, the millionaire, playboy, who was recently held captive in Colombia and came back a changed man. The rumors are rampant, but he won't open up to the public. He starts a foundation to help find those kidnapped or held captive and rehabilitate them once found.

Now it is up to Darcy to reveal the true Micah to the world as she gets to know him on a remote island (while also hiding behind her own demons) with no chance of interruption or paparazzi.

I really liked this book!

Thank you Publisher and Author
I Give this Book 2 Stars

Would I read more from this Author? Hell to the No.

This was ridiculously boring, unless your into extremely slow moving books. The Lead is annoying and can’t take a compliment to save her life, she’s waaay to defensive. Lead Male was like dating the cowardly lion, was absolutely boring.
This book is not at all like the synopsis makes it out to be.
The sex scenes took FOREVER!
I rate them 2 out of 5, because it took so damn long to get there and then it just got to eye rolling level predictable.

I've had this random book on my Goodreads TBR since the first year I was active on here- many years ago now. I've started a digital TBR shelf purge on here a few times and this title survived each time so I decided if I was going to keep it around then I needed to read it already. Nightingale is a short book which isn't a bad thing but in this case it did mean there weren't a lot of pages available to really flesh this story out. Since the characters are in a forced-proximity situation for several days I suppose there was a time limit in which the romance could take place anyway regardless of pages but it definitely felt a bit rushed.

I was really hoping for a grumpy/sunshine relationship between these two based on the MMC's personality when we are first introduced to him. He is described as being brusque and short in his replies, a person who isn't easily trusting based on his past trauma, and he secludes himself often and hides his face with his hair when in public. Yet he did a nearly immediate 360 when confronted with the FMC- even more so once they were secluded together. The author attempted to make it more believable by revisiting his trauma and revealing the FMC's as well. It became a source of comfort and bonding between them but even the actions of the FMC completely contradicted her words and thoughts. I don't know- I don't want to spend too much time harping on this point but I just feel that if the foundation had been built a bit sturdier and the relationship had been given more time to develop this could have been a great story and I'm just sorry for the missed opportunity.

Nightingale does touch on mental health quite a lot and there are many healthy discussions being had by the characters- this part was pretty well done in and of itself. The backstory of both characters was also quite unique. I'm not sure having both characters suffer from PTSD was a good idea- mainly because the chances of these two happening upon each other outside of a situation that purposefully brought together people with similar mental health issues is pretty slim. That being said, I get why the author made that choice. An ordinary woman who couldn't relate to him in that way was likely to fail and we needed progression to drive the story forward.

I enjoyed the ending of this book a lot. I really like how the author brought the novel to a neat close and the way she portrayed these two MC's as happy and learning to heal. Nightingale definitely wasn't a bad book. There is a lot to like about it and there are definitely people out there who will end up loving this story so I do recommend it if it sounds interesting to you. It was just a pretty middling book for me.

Oh my goodness, this book was amazing! On a scale of 1 to 10 for swoon-worthiness, it gets a 20. If the author had asked me what kind of hero could make my heart skip a beat, Micah Laine would be it. Look up "tortured hero" in the romance dictionary - his face is there. I loved how Jocelyn Adams wrote a book reminiscent of the classic Beauty and the Beast tale and made it genuine for modern day. While some reviewers seem to think it's slow and blah with the sex, I found it to be sweet and highly sensual, making the intimate scenes all the more heartfelt and emotional. Quite frankly, I wish more authors wrote sex in the way Jocelyn Adams does, because it would make me feel the character's emotions in the moment so much more.

Micah Laine is a mystery to the public. After escaping from Colombian kidnappers a year ago, rescuing several others at the same time, and coming home with a terrible scar along the side of his face, he has no desire to revisit his time in that horrible place. When Darcy Delacorte, a blogger and aspiring journalist, comes to him hoping to use his story to further her career, he believes she is just another vulture out to plaster his past all over the city. He challenges her with a deal: stay with him at his secluded cottage for one week, during which time she can ask as many questions as she wants...as long as she lets him ask for something as well. But he gets more than her bargained for as his time with her becomes more intimate and his secrets become less hidden. She is warm and carefree, but she has scars of her own. When his final secret is unveiled, will she still want him?

Micah was, as I said above, a fantastic hero. While he had every reason to be cold and callous towards Darcy, given her profession and his troubled past, his warm heart and generous compassion won out in the end. He not only began to heal himself, but he cared enough to heal Darcy as well. Darcy was a character I feel many of us could relate to, and I enjoyed reading about her quirks as well as her passion for her profession. She knows that she represents what Micah hates - the media - and she puts in a lot of effort to make sure he's comfortable with everything she asks of him. They both made a supportive couple who showed that healing is never one-sided, and that perfect someone could be hiding in the least likely of places.

As soon as I finished this book, I went to look up what others this author has written. It is clear to me that this is an author I could read again, and I am eager to do so. Brava, Jocelyn Adams! This book is a must-read.

This book just blew me away, it was another "what the HELL did I just read" There are a few reasons aside from the story itself. The cover gives nothing away, the blurb doesn't really go into what this fantastic story is really about and so I decide to take the leap into this one. Well holy hell, what a leap and what a fantastic story this is.

It's not what you think, it's not any image you can conjure up. You just read and go along for the ride. The characters are phenomenal, the few side characters are great. The backstory is WOW and that's all I am saying. The plot is seamless and moves along quite well and then there is a bit of romance. What I'm not giving you is the storyline, the author didn't and I'm not either. Her writing is fantastic. She gets inside their heads and takes you with her.

Read the book! There were so many things that were said that I highlighted. Which I feel more comfortable elaborating more on when the book gets released. And a more in depth review.

My advice, go for this book. Read it as it is and let it wash over you. Don't let the cover or the blurb distract you, just jump in.

I'd give it 10 stars if possible.

Three reasons why you should read 'Nightingale' by Jocelyn Adams:
1. The romance.
2. The story.
3. The characters.

What I loved most about this book was the way the author captured the pain and struggle of a person that went through a traumatic experience.
Most importantly the inner strength of these characters and how they coped with the pain and the past.

This is also a love story, a beautifully done love story because it tells us about two people that grew up knowing what true love is, but who lost hope in it along the way.

The characters were elaborate and interesting, flawed and strong. Darcy and Micha are both survivors and I think that's what drew them together in the beginning.

This book was overly sweet and a little cliché at times, but overall it was a very pleasant read, with plenty of cute and funny moments as well as sad scenes full of anguish.

I recommend it to everyone who is looking for a relaxing book that keeps you hooked until the end.

Nightingale by Jocelyn Adams is the story of Darcy Delacorte and Micah Laine.
Micah has only been home about a year after escaping Colombian kidnappers along with helping to save people. Micah has turned in to a recluse mystery type person with scars on the outside and inside. Darcy is trying to get her career in journalism started and feels that Micah would make a great story to help that goal. Micah is reluctant to do the story thing she is just another user type journalist. So he sets a condition on the interview that she has to stay with him at his recluse place..and that if she asked a question...he gets to ask her to do something as well. But they both start learning more about the other...each having their own secrets.
Enjoyed their story!

Nightingale by Jocelyn Adams was a steady-paced read full of feels. Darcy and Micah are perfect for each other; both struggling to find their way as they deal with the blows life has dealt them. Couldn’t get enough of this story and wasn’t ready for it to end! Nicely done Ms. Adams!

NIGHTINGALE has much more substance to the story than the book's blurb was able to resonate to the reader. However, I love reclusive hero stories and was drawn into wanting to read it by that fact alone. I was not disappointed. It was like a modern day Beauty & The Beast Fairy Tale.

Micah Laine has been home for a year, after being held captive in Colombia. Somehow he had escaped and managed to save several other captives and bring them to safety with him. He returned a changed man. He now was scarred on the outside as well as the inside. He just wanted to be left alone & wouldn't share his heroic story with anybody, especially the annoying press. All his energy was now put into the charitable foundation he had started. The goal was to help return people that had been captured and held hostage. Also to help with their rehabilitation once they returned home. His days of being a rich playboy were all behind him now. He trusted very few people, so you can imagine when his beloved elderly assistant Maggie, told him she wanted him to be interviewed, he was a skeptic. “This woman isn't like the others with no scruples. Darcy is a blogger I have been following her for some time, she has old-fashioned values. She wants to write a piece about the foundation for the Toronto Today newspaper, and I want you to let her.”

Micah trusted Maggie and wanted to help the foundation. These are the only reasons he found himself leaving on a week long private trip to give an interview to the pretty Darcy Delacorte. They would be alone at his secluded cottage without another person around. It was his sanctuary. They were both surprised to find they were both damaged and had lots in common. Both suffering at the hands of their past ghosts. She had her own scars. They found comfort with each other, but at the end of their week together, they would be going their separate ways or would they?

Darcy is a reporter but she is tired of writing meaningless articles for the society page. Darcy wants to make a difference in the world. Darcy has been promised more if she could get an interview with Micah Laine. Micah was a millionaire playboy who had been kidnapped and held captive in Columbia. Micah managed to escape one year ago and freed several other people at the same time when he escaped. When Micah returned home he was a different not man and he would not open up in public. No interviews in any form.Micah also now has a long scar on the side of his face. But Micah did form a foundation for those who have been kidnapped or held captive and help them to be rehabilitated. Micah believes Darcy is just another person who wants to plaster his past all over the place. Micah challenges Darcy with a deal to stay with him for one week in his secluded cottage on a remote island. During this time Darcy can get to know Micah she can also ask as many questions as she wants to. As long as Micah is allowed to ask for something also. Darcy is warm and carefree but she also has secrets.
I enjoyed reading this book. I liked the plot but this did drag for me at times. I liked a lot how Darcy tried to make sure Micah is comfortable with all she asks of him. I loved the back story and felt this was well written. This choked me up at times and made me smile at others. Micah and Darcy are definitely good for each other and help each other heal. I really liked that Darcy and Micah didn’t rush right into a insta love/ lust relationship. I loved how Micah came back and started a foundation to help others who had been kidnapped or held captive. I loved the characters and the ins and outs of this book and I recommend.

Nightingale by Jocelyn Adams (Ebook) I am a pretty big Jocelyn Adams fan, and while this is not my favorite book by her, I think it will stand out as an ambitious, thought-provoking effort to those who enjoy deep themes and slow-burn romance.

Micah is a rich former playboy who has been brutally disfigured after being held captive by a Columbian drug lord. Darcy is an ambitious reporter who nails the interview of a lifetime when Micah finally agrees to reveal what happened, and how he and a small group of captives escaped. She finds herself falling for Micah over the week-long interview, and ends up questioning which is more important to her… printing a story that rockets her to fame, or protecting the secrets of a man who used the horror of an unthinkable experience to refocus and devote his resources to saving people’s lives.

I really liked how Darcy didn’t take the easy way out and sleep with him right off the bat to get him to talk. I enjoyed watching them get to know each other, and how their very different lives had so many similarities that I could actually believe they would fall for each other despite the class lines.

There’s not really anything to complain about here. If you enjoy a more realistic romance, where people take the time to fall in love before falling into the sheets, this book should be a winner for you.

in order to get the story that will launch her career as a serious journalist, darcy delacorte agrees to spend a week in the with reclusive millionaire micah lane. previously known as a playboy, he's retired from society since his abduction and subsequent disfigurement by a group of columbian drug traffickers.

both darcy and micah are hiding plenty of secrets between them. the only way micah agrees to open up is if darcy answers his questions in turn. why he wants to know about darcy, he's not sure. but he sees something in her, and wants to know if he can trust it. he's found himself used and taken advantage one time too many.

but darcy wins him over. and the more time they spend together, micah proves himself to be the nightingale she'd stopped looking for.

An interesting read. The book is well done and it has some intriguing characters. It just wasn't a favorite of mine. It took a while for me to really get into the story. Overall though not a bad read.

Darcy Delacorte is a reporter tired of writing meaningless articles for the society page. She's been promised more if she can get an interview with Micah Laine. He's a playboy millionaire who has been all over the news after his escape from his captors but so far he's declined any and all interviews with the press. Darcy is determined to get him to agree but is she willing to pay the price he's asking??

After some grandmotherly persuasion by his receptionist, Micah Laine agrees to at least talk to Darcy Delacorte about the Coming Home Foundation. Her proposal to him is simple:
“So what are you proposing, exactly?” Her pupils dilated, darkening the shade of her eyes. “Let me write a feature piece on the foundation, including only enough details about what happened to you in Colombia to make sure everyone reads the article, hopefully stopping the water-cooler speculation about it. And believe me, there’s a lot of speculation. Show them the man; direct them to your cause instead of to the pain you’re entitled to deal with in private. If I get it right, you get your life back. And if you’re the guy I hope you are, maybe we can be allies in this fight.”
This is an enjoyable read where the characters have depth and the storyline is intriguing.
I was a first-time reader to Jocelyn Adams, and now I look forward to reading more.
