McKenna Prescott is the queen of picking the wrong men. When her latest boyfriend dumps her, she decides to devote her time to “exploring herself” ( drinking wine and ordering sex toys online) and starting her freelance makeup business. That is, until an embarrassing delivery mix-up puts her sexy, gruff neighbor in her path... Beckett Walsh is married to his job...which is a deal-breaker for the woman he’s supposed to be marrying. Even worse, his would-be father-in-law has pulled support from Beckett's startup and now Beckett stands to lose everything. But the gorgeous, crazy makeup artist from down the hall has an equally crazy but mutually beneficial if he convinces his sister to hire McKenna for her high-society wedding, McKenna will teach him about what women want so he can get his fiancée back. All he has to do is make sure he doesn’t fall for the wrong girl.

Fun, light hearted romance with lots of sparkles!
I enjoyed the writing style alot, thought the chemistry between McKenna and Beckett was adorable and loved the fact the they supported each other. I loved McKenna and loved how she was so confident and ambitious, she was my favourite .
However the downside of this book was the characteristics of Beckett which were fun and cute at the beginning but then he turned annoying and the reasoning behind him wanting to get back to his ex really bothered me,sadly he didn't redeem himself fully by the end. Which then leads me to the ending of this book that i thought was so rushed and anticlamctic it had potential it could've been better.
But overall i still think it's cute and enjoyable read.
Trouble Next Door is OK read. It has that rom com feels about it although the comedy is lukewarm.
Miss London does not take the story further. I want to see more dramatic plot or something funnier. I am bit diappointed with this book. Overall it is a light and short story.
This book lost me more than once... It just didn't connect with me. At some point, all I wanted was to finish it already, in order to move on to another book. A more interesting book. I wanted more action, more suspense. But it was so basic... Sorry not sorry, but 2 stars are enough for my rating on this book.
Just imagine, you've been dumped by your boyfriend after discovering you've chosen the wrong man yet again. That's what happened to make-up artist McKenna Prescott. She's fed up of always doing that so now she's going to make time to learn more about herself - starting by ordering some sex toys to experiment with! The only problem is she was slightly - okay, very - drunk when she placed the order . . . . and got the apartment number wrong. Now she's going to have to collect her package from her handsome neighbour and entrepreneur, Beckett Walsh, preferably without him discovering what's in it!
Beckett is so focussed on his job that his girlfriend has broken their engagement - and her father has withdrawn his financial backing from Beckett's latest start up venture. He needs the money to make his plans work. When McKenna offers to teach him about women so he woo his fiancée back again in exchange for him helping to get his sister to hire McKenna as her wedding make up artist, it seems he has a good plan . . . . but as he and McKenna work together and get to know each other, deciding on who should be partners is open to conjecture as love intervenes in unexpected ways!
I've enjoyed many stories by this talented author and have to add this one to that list! The author brings her characters to life, helping readers empathise with their dilemmas, angst and turmoil and creating a great read that I have no hesitation in highly recommending.
I requested and received a copy of this book, via NetGalley. This review is my honest opinion after choosing to read it.
An overal fun and lighthearted romance that I thoroughly enjoyed reading. It wasn’t the best of the best, but a fun pick as an ‘in between book’ that you can just pick up anytime and continue where you left off.
I loved this lighthearted, flirty story. The characters were charming and engaging, and the story flowed effortlessly from the humorous first pages to the swoon-worthy HEA ending.
From its hilarious beginning to the sexy and sweet ending, Trouble Next Door is So. Much. Fun! I had an absolute blast reading McKenna and Beckett’s romance – it was energetic, flirty, sexy, and even heartwarming at times.
Beckett is a serious hero in need of a shakeup. His childhood made him crave stability for himself and his family and he’s completely focused on making the app he’s working on a success. To launch said app, he needs funding and since his ex-fiancée’s father was his biggest investor… Well, things aren’t going too well for Beckett at the beginning of this book. I admired his intelligence and focus and the clear love he had for his family. Beckett definitely has his flaws, but at his core he’s a kind, loving man who is trying to do his best. His world is knocked off-kilter by McKenna, which made me grin more than once. She’s bright, sparkly, and has a larger-than-life personality that I absolutely loved. McKenna is stuck working the beauty counter until she can launch her career as a makeup artist. She’s got talent and determination, but after years of her family beating her down because she doesn’t fit their mold, she is somewhat vulnerable. Her passion for her work and her love of makeup shines and was actually one of my favorite things about Trouble Next Door. When an author really enjoys something and incorporates it into the story, it comes through, adding extra life to the book.
As individuals, McKenna and Beckett are great. As a couple, they’re dynamite. Even when they start out as friends, with McKenna trying to help him get his ex back, they have great chemistry. They’re supportive of one another, they actually listen to each other talk about their work and goals, and that’s fantastic. Add in sizzling chemistry that can’t be denied and it’s easy to see why I absolutely hated having to put Trouble Next Door down. The characters, the romance…there’s such a bright, popping personality to this book that I smile even just thinking about it.
Trouble Next Door is the first book I’ve read by Stefanie London but there’s no way it’ll be my last. I loved Ms. London’s writing; the humor, romance, and character growth was on point and I will definitely be glomming up her backlist. There are some books that just make you happy when you read them, and that’s what Trouble Next Door was for me.
FTC Disclosure: I received this book for free from the publisher in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.
This book has both on-screen sex and cursing (including f-bombs). If those things will cause you to leave a bad review, you might want to skip this one.
I confess to not at all understanding the whole makeup world (which would horrify McKenna I'm sure), so I went into this story a little unsure of whether I would enjoy it or not, but I should never have doubted Stefanie London. This story was everything I enjoy from her and more. This book had a tremendous amount of chemistry between the hero and heroine from the get-go, and it had the kind of subtle humor that I've come to expect from Ms. London. So many times I found myself highlighting things that made me smile while reading and I LOVE that.
The characters in this book were fabulous. I loved that Beckett wasn't the usual swaggering, obnoxious pig (that the genre now calls an 'alpha' as if that term magically makes jerkish behavior sexy?) hero, he was a seriously good guy who loves his family and his job, and who is struggling to balance everything. Even though he made a short-sighted and boneheaded move out of desperation, I understood his reasons and had faith that he'd get his 'stuff' together. The biggest surprise for me was how much I liked McKenna - I connected with her in a way that I honestly didn't expect. Her fear of putting it all out there and failing was something that I could relate to in a big way, so I enjoyed watching her blossom and shine as the book went on. She was absolutely fabulous.
I would highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a romantic comedy about opposites attracting, and finding your place in this big, bad world. If you've never read a Stefanie London book, this is a great place to start. If you're a fan of her other books, you're going to love McKenna and Beckett.
I requested and was granted an ARC of this book via NetGalley and the publisher. I was under no obligation to write this review, I did so because this book is great.
Stefanie London has done it again with a must read that will leave you laughing and lusting for her new hero. I will never look at a box from Amazon the same way again.
A book that proves geeks are sexy and achieving your dreams is easy if you believe in yourself.
Great chemistry, funny one-liners and a story that moves fast! Happy Reading
I received an ARC from the publisher in exchange for an honest review.
According to my Goodreads, this is only my second book from Stefanie London and this is a shock to me simply because I know I've seen her name around and thought I must have read a lot from her but I guess I was just delusional. Ha! But I will say that Trouble Next Door, Stefanie's latest release, was an enjoyable and comedic read.
If you're looking for a romantic comedy, Trouble Next Door is definitely the book for you. I can't stress the amount of smart and witty humor that was included in this book. There were so many moments between our hero and heroine, Beckett and Mckenna, that my mouth would twitch and I would smirk. These characters definitely worked well with each other and had the chemistry romance readers look for.
Let's talk more about our resident makeup guru, McKenna. She recently was dumped and have sworn off men for a period of time only to have her package containing her new battery operated boyfriend to be delivered to the wrong house and to the man that could basically be her inspiration for her fantasies. I liked McKenna simply because she was free-spirited and different. She comes from the classic case that her parents are well educated and her siblings are all doctors and she's deemed as the "creative" one. I saw the struggle she went through to find acceptance from her parents for her career choice and ultimately deciding to accept the fact that maybe she doesn't need her parents to approve of her. There was a line that Beckett said to McKenna that really resonated with me and that was "some people aren't meant to fit in boxes." And that's exactly what Beckett and McKenna are.
Finally, we're moving onto our broody hero, Beckett. He doesn't really talk much so he can be seen as a cold man but in honesty, I don't think he's cold. I think he's just that into talking. He seems to think before he speaks which is different from McKenna because she rambles and goes on a tangent. Anyways, Beckett is different from a lot of heroes I read because well, of one reason. He's not rich. He needs funding asap for his wealth management app he created with his company or else he would be really struggling to help his mother out financially. And because things went sour with Beckett and his investor's daughter whom he was dating for a long period of time, all the funding has been pulled and now he's left with no choice but to try to win his ex back. I know. Readers, we can already tell Beckett is not in the right mindset. He's thinking realistically and rationally but definitely, not thinking with his heart.
Okay, so the reason why this book isn't a perfect 5/5 is because you know how sometimes you're driving down the road and you see a speed bump? You're anticipating the bump, knowing the inclination and then the dramatic fall of your car? That's basically how the climax works. We see McKenna and Beckett finally getting it together and you just know there's going to be conflict that will pull them apart. The thing with Trouble Next Door was that yes, I went up on the speed bump but the fall was just a small one. A blip. And I was back on the ground.
And it's not bad. No. I really liked how Stefanie handled Beckett in terms of this situation. She didn't follow the generic root of characters and having them lie to heroines about why they can't be together just so that there could be more angst or heightened emotions. Stefanie made Beckett honest and rational when it came to breaking things off with McKenna. I appreciated it. The only thing would be that from him breaking it off and realizing he made a huge mistake, it was kind of rushed. There was a slight time delay and then he went, nope. I made a mistake. Bye. I'm going back to McKenna. At least, that's what it felt like to me.
MY RECOMMENDATION:
If you're looking for a light and fun and funny read, pick this one up!
Tempting reading often appears at the most unexpected times and leaves a lasting impression. With a laugh out loud storyline and a heavy dose of heart, Trouble Next Door has much to offer. McKenna is a tad needy and Beckett tends to be a bit too clueless. Nothing good can come from this combination, but it turns out to be gold. Amidst the over the top wedding and the equally flighty personas, McKenna and Beckett learn about themselves and each other. It only takes some soul searching to show a person is most beautiful, when being true to themselves. Inspiring words to live by.
Thank you to NetGalley for giving me an ARC of this book. The review below is purely my own opinion.
For me, the blurb of this book was so much cuter and better than the actual story :-( I'm not so sure what was missing but as I began reading, I found myself getting bored with the pace, the plot, the characters. Sigh. Which is why it took me so long to finish this book. It wasn't bad... I'm just meh about it. Sorry. Not keeping this one.
This was the first book of Stafnie's I've read, and it won't be mu last. This was a slow-burn, emotional, quirky, steamy contemporary romance that had me at "Mr. Whopper" (you'll understand once you read it!)
McKenna and Beckett met under some...unusual circumstances, and it was a little sit-com-ish and I wasn't sure if I would like this book (romcoms aren't really my thing).
But I am SO so glad I stuck with this because I so enjoyed McKenna. I loved her sense of humor and how she was honest about her thoughts and feelings. Too often, the heroine in romances I've read pulls the "I'm feeling a certain way, but I'm just going to keep it to myself and not tell anyone, even though it will cause SO much drama" thing, and it frustrates the heck out of me. Not in this book!
Similarly, Beckett was honest with McKenna about, well, everything from why he didn't talk much to how he really felt about her.
I felt that Stefanie did a fantastic job building up to the love scene, and also building up the feelings between McKenna and Beckett. I also liked McKenna's friend Emery, and I wonder if she has her own book?
I would ABSOLUTELY read more books in this series or by this author!!!
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book McKenna is a make-up artist who works in a department store but really wants to run her own business, so when she is dumped by her boyfriend (oh she is so good at choosing the wrong guys) that she has decided to think about herself so self-loving is what her life is going to be from now on no men. But when her special package is delivered to her neighbours place, getting it back starts a new chapter in her life. Beckett is a quiet IT geek and a workaholic he is a family man and is always responsible but when he is dumped by his fiancé and this leaves his new project hanging in the balance, he is not thinking when he opens up a package that is delivered to him and what a shock he gets when he opens it, but this package is going to change his life in such a good way. I really loved this story Beckett and McKenna are so very different in their personalities although they both have issues with their families, but are both so good for each other the sensual sizzle between them is hot but of course there are ups and downs Beckett needs to get back with his fiancé so cannot possible fall in love with McKenna and McKenna has sworn of men remember it is all about self-loving, but cupid doesn’t work that way and these two end up with a fabulous HEA that left me feeling joy and happiness, I highly recommend this one a fun and sexy story
Off men after having been dumped yet again because she's 'not marriage material' cosmetic counter worker and wannabe makeup artist McKenna strikes a deal with her grunting (but insanely gorgeous) app developer neighbour, Beckett.
His sister is about to get married to someone who's someone, doing the wedding makeup would be an in for her business. He's also been dumped, and along with his fiance he's also lost 2 million dollars in support from his would-be father in law. They can help each other out. He'll put in a good word to his sister, and she'll help him get his fiance, and monetary support back.
These two are adorable, and I'm completely biased with Melbourne being my capital city.. love reading the familiar characters and places.
Oh WOW what a fun story this one is, it had me laughing out loud so many times but also just sighing as two people who are so very different come together in a sensual exciting and beautiful way. Although neighbours they are not over friendly that is until they are bought together when a special package McKenna Prescott orders online is delivered to the gorgeous Beckett Walsh’s apartment.

I fell in love with Beckett Walsh the minute he stepped onto the page in Stefanie London’s Trouble Next Door. I loved that, despite his tendency to be blunt, to take things literally, and his utter confusion over what women say versus what they mean, he did his best to win the heart of the woman he wanted—and I forgave him for wanting the wrong woman at the beginning of the story. The heroine of Trouble Next Door, McKenna Prescott, was a fun, contemporary woman trying to take charge of her life despite getting no help or encouragement from her family. Her first step toward taking charge sparked an embarrassing and hilarious mail mix up, but kicked off a fun, romantic read.
I highly recommend Trouble Next Door for anyone who loves nerdy but oh-so-sexy heroes, witty banter and swoon worthy happy endings! And if you’re already a fan of Ms. London’s stories, this is one not to miss.
I received an ARC of Trouble Next Door in exchange for an honest review.
Trouble Next Door is the perfect title for this book. It pretty much says it all. I loved this novel! It has romance and fun with a sexy spin all rolled into one story. McKenna and Beckett are complete opposites on the surface, but as you read on, you'll find they have more in common than you think. I highly recommend this one for anyone who loves a fun romantic comedy with lots of heart. Another great novel by Stefanie London!
Trouble Next Door by Stefanie London is the story of McKenna Prescott and Beckett Walsh. McKeena comes from a smart family but she is more of the creative one in the bunch. But Mckenna is going through a break up where she decided to take a break from dating...but did order a 'stress reliever' that accidentally got delivered to her neighbor Beckett. Beckett is working on getting his ideal into reality when he goes through a break up with the investor daughter So Beckett is having his own issues. Their story was a little different then the normal rich guy with working girl. Beckett is trying to get his company on good footing...so he isn't well off. This is also a really funny romance that I really enjoyed.
Trouble Next Door was an adorable read!! I loved the McKenna was a makeup artist- I'm not much of a girlie girl but the author made me want to be. I loved how Beckett truly loved McKenna for who she was.
Great read by a gifted author. Look forward to reading more by Stefanie London.
I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.
I've wanted to read this book since before the book itself had a publicly available title and release date. Knowing that author, Stefanie London, has a make-up artist background, to me, it was always going to be interesting to see the spin put on the job with a heroine. So many scenes that made love love love this book. The opening scene... OMG that was unexpected but a perfect set up to the entire book. Can I just say I want Beckett's app and I think it would do fabulously if it actually existed.
Trouble next door is a super fun read. I loved the banter between McKenna and Becket. The whole bit at the start with the delivery mix-up was hilarious, definitely a good romantic comedy. But there are lots of feelings and emotions too, especially at the end. A great read, I recommend it.
Cute opposite attracts story. McKenna is a free spirit make-up artist. After she gets dumped yet again, she gets drunk and decides to go on a self-love regimen and orders $300 of sex toys. In her drunken state, she transposed her apartment number and her package arrives at Beckett’s apartment. Beckett is a hot nerd programmer who has been recently dumped by his fiancée, and her father’s backing for his latest app has been pulled. McKenna goes to pick up her package, and of course Beckett has accidentally opened it. After the initial embarrassment, they decide on a quid quo pro. Beckett recommends McKenna as the makeup artist for his sister’s high society wedding and McKenna helps him get back his fiancée. McKenna is a sweet character. Beckett is more complex, he feels that he has to deny his own happiness to help out his family. This is a fun easy read.
This is a fun, quick read that I absolutely loved. It starts with McKenna ordering a "self love" kit that gets delivered to her neighbor, Beckett, by mistake. You know a book is off to a good start when you begin by laughing at that.
I enjoyed reading about both McKenna and Beckett and loved their interactions. If you enjoy fun contemporary romance, you will love this book. Put this one at the top of your TBR list, you'll be glad you did. The author is on my must read authors' list.
When neighbors McKenna and Beckett start this book, it is under hilarious and crazy settings. He gets her "personal" package delivered and opened it. McKenna literally wants to die, when she goes over to ask for it back. Then she realizes he has opened her delivery and knows what it is inside. Their relationship only gets better from that point on!
Beckett is a no nonsense workaholic who is kind of like Sheldon Cooper, with an Austrian accent! When MeKenna barges into his life, his word is turned upside down by a women who he badly knows, but can't seem to get out of his mind,
McKenna is a make up artist who is looking to mark her mark on the industry. She is tired of no one taking her seriously. When she meets Beckett, things change for her. Spending time with him is making her realize, she is starting to develop feelings for the guy who she is supposed to be helping,
This was a fun read. I love contemporary romance. Something light and fun always out a smile on my face!
McKenna Prescott is done with men and in a moment of clarity she decides to order herself some pseudo boyfriends that she can keep safely in a drawer at home. What she never expected was to be knocking on her gruff neighbors door and having him know the contents of her box.
Beckett Walsh is trying to figure out why his fiancee dumped him and with her father pulling the funding from his app, he is back to square one. Determined to get his ex back he ends up getting help from McKenna, he needs to stay focused on getting his ex back but everything about McKenna is a distraction and he finds he has never been happier then he is with her. Can Beckett what is in front of him before it is too late?
Witty and full of surprises. I thought this was one of those books you pick up and just giggle through out. McKenna is radiant and draws you in right away. I liked that Beckett is completely opposite and they work. Checking out more from this talented author.
Heather's review from Smut MattersAnother really charming read from Stefanie London. McKenna (I will absolutely spell that wrong at least once in this review because I have a niece named MaKenna), Prescott, having been recently dumped, has sworn off men to focus on herself. Which - haven't we all. It rarely works out the way we think it will. In order to aid herself on her journey of self-discovery, she drunkenly orders a bunch of sex toys, which are delivered to her neighbor instead of her. Because, in her drunken state, she typed her transposed some of the digits in her apartment number. That's our general setup, and while we've certainly seen "mis-delivered packages, hijinks ensue" before, what follows is pure Stefanie London.
First, a quick note - if you don't follow Stefanie on social media, you should. She loves makeup. Seriously - loves it. So much that I was surprised to realize that this is the first makeup artist she's written. And she loves to experiment with it. I love seeing what she comes up with, because I love seeing people take risks and try new stuff with their makeup. My own style is mainly "which color of everything most closely matches my own skin so you can't even really see it?", so seeing Stefanie try these amazing eye looks and new lipsticks feeds my pretty-makeup-loving soul and makes me wish I had any idea what I was doing.
Back to the book. McKenna and Beckett Walsh are neighbors, so they know each other in a vague, nod-in-the-hall way, but they've never spoken. Not until McKenna needs to knock on his door to ask for her box of sex toys. After a quick couple of conversations, they realize that each of them can help the other. McKenna is willing to help him figure out how to get his ex-girlfriend back, and Beckett will put in a good word with his sister, Kayla, who is engaged to a member of a big deal family. McKenna realizes that if Kayla will hire McKenna to do her wedding makeup, it could be exactly the boost she needs to launch the freelance makeup business she's been trying so desperately to get off the ground.
I just... I just really liked these two. Beckett can be seen as cold, but he's really not. He's just more comfortable observing and using as few words to express himself as possible. He's singularly focused on getting his own business, a financial app, off the ground, and he has no room in his life for anything else. Which is why his girlfriend left him in the first place. He's constantly worried about his family, his mother in particular, and he just doesn't want anything to get in the way of what he feels is his responsibility.
McKenna, on the other hand, is a force of nature. She has no filter, no pause button. She tends to say exactly what's in her head without thinking it through. She lives her life out loud, her whole sparkly, glittery self, and she has no time for anyone who wants her to tone down and get a "real" career, whether that's the asshole breaking up with her at the start of the book or her family. Together, they were just so charming. And funny. And sexy.
My biggest problem with the book, the main reason it was four stars instead of five, is Beckett's determination to get his ex-girlfriend back. He knew that they didn't belong together, he knew that he didn't love her, but when they broke up, Sherri's dad pulled his offer of seed money for Beckett's business, and the business couldn't make it without that money. It's just not a great look for Beckett, deciding to sentence himself and Sherri to a lackluster life because he needs that money. He knew what he was doing, he just decided that it didn't matter as much as getting his app up and running. His family needed that money, and he didn't care what he had to do to get it.
Obviously Beckett eventually pulls his head out of his ass, but the fact that he even entertained the thought of using Sherri that way rankled with me a bit. But I do love a quiet, stoic hero, and he never actually went through with his plan to get her back, so I eventually forgave him.
Overall, this was exactly what I've come to expect from Stefanie London. Beckett and McKenna were adorable to watch fall in love, their story was funny, charming, and sexy, and really what else could you ask for?
McKenna Prescott is a very determined woman and will do anything to get her freelance makeup business up and running. So, when an opportunity presents itself to ask her neighbor Beckett Walsh to convince his sister to hire McKenna for her skills as a makeup artist for the woman's high-society wedding, Beckett decides to help her especially with what she's offering in return. Will McKenna be able to help Beckett win back his ex-fiancé, or will their plan backfire and give the pair a shot at happy ever after instead?
Ms. London's books are an absolute delight to read and this story was completely enthralling, fast-paced and a story I couldn't get enough of. Really, I was completely hooked right from the beginning because of the heroine's dilemma and how it leads to her coming face-to-face with the hero. Will the heroine be embarrassed because the hero knows what she's come to his door to get? Then again, what a better way to get over a break-up than to order what she does.
The dialogue was well-written, compelling and the perfect combination of intense moments and playful banter that had me loving this couple, especially how the heroine tests the hero when it comes to whether he's any good at dating. Will he succeed or fail? Moreover, both the main characters are incredible and I loved every moment the hero and heroine interacted, as McKenna gets Beckett to be more personable instead of bogged down in his work. I also liked how determined the hero was to take care of his family, even though it doesn't seem fair to him. Will he finally realize that he's not his mother's keeper? Yet, what I liked most of all about the hero is how driven he is when it comes to his work, even if his plan for getting his new app started makes him seem like he's willing to settle for mediocre happiness instead of true love. Luckily, that all changes with spending time with McKenna.
While the heroine, she's the black sheep of her family and it made me feel sorry for the way they treat her. Why couldn't they realize that she was happy with her life? Furthermore, she's strong and brave by continuing to put up with her family's constant judgment when it comes to her life. I also liked how determined she was to get her freelance makeup business up and running, because it's the only way she'll be completely happy. Yet, what I liked most of all about the heroine is how much she challenges the hero and gets him to see that work and helping his family shouldn't be all he has in his life.
Overall, Ms. London has penned a remarkable read in this book where the chemistry between this couple was powerful; the romance nicely-detailed and full of passion; and the ending had me charmed by the hero's determination to win back the heroine because there's no way he can live without her in his life. However, it was the epilogue that wrapped this story up brilliantly, as the hero is incorrigible when it comes to the two of them and their adventures at weddings. I would recommend Trouble Next Door by Stefanie London, if you enjoy the opposites attract trope or books by authors Sarah Ballance, Kadie Scott, Avery Flynn and Tawna Fenske.
Starting a new book, especially by a new (to you) author, is always a minefield of questions. Will it be any good? Will I like the characters? Will it be as good as the blurb makes it out to be? Well, when in the first few pages you find this: "God, of all the bloody packages to go missing..." and the package in question contains adult toys; you just know the book is going to be funny!
Stefanie London is a new author for me, but Trouble Next Door certainly won’t be the last book of hers that I will read. One star is automatically given for Stefanie being an Australian author (I will ignore that she is currently living elsewhere) and successfully basing her book in an Australian setting. I have been lucky enough to read a few new (to me) Australian authors this year, and I’m so proud that the world is starting to recognise the gold mine of talent we have here.
The remaining stars are purely based on the quality of Stefanie’s work. Trouble Next Door is a lovely light read, but not emotionally bland. We are presented with the full range of human emotion: humour, love, embarrassment, confusion, betrayal, lack of confidence, indecision, and just a little angst thrown in for good measure.
I really enjoyed Stefanie’s writing style. It flowed very well, and the switches between the two POVs of McKenna and Beckett were smoothly done so it simply flowed from one to the other. Characters were very well done. It was easy to sympathise with both McKenna and Beckett, and both were genuinely likable people. Secondary characters were developed enough according to their role in the story. This book did not feel one dimensional or flat. All the characters were very much alive on the page.
I very much enjoyed Stefanie London’s Trouble Next Door and would have no hesitations in recommending it to someone who is looking for a light read with heart.
