In Deliberate Deception, someone is using a millionaire raffle for murder. Alex Porter investigates the case. The story has action and mystery. Plenty of twists and turns to keep you reading until the end. The main character is sympathetic intuitive and complex. A good read overall for mystery fans. Thanks to NetGalley for an arc in exchange for an honest review.

MWSA Review

“Wow, I never saw that coming.” Just when I thought I was figuring things out, a plot twist hit me – not once, but over and over. Deliberate Deception is an apt title.

Joe Porrazzo knows how to draw the reader into the story and never let go until the last page. Even then, questions arise to pique one’s interest for the forthcoming third book in the Alex Porter Trilogy.

The author stirs politics, crime, greed, and love into the pot and delivers a good read. Good versus evil seems a clear concept until it becomes muddied. Porrazzo gives us an outstanding portrayal of one man’s reaction to morality, immorality, and amorality. Can the lines really blur, or is a clear-cut answer always the right one?

Can love flourish amid deception? Can the sins of the past be forgiven? Alex Porter wrestles with these questions as he races against the clock to stop an unknown killer from an unspecified crime.

The action in Deliberate Deception is non-stop, the dialogue is crisp, and the characters are realistic. It’s the kind of story that leaves the reader wondering what he would have done.

This book builds on real current events to produce a thriller that is full of suspense and danger. Alex has moved to Tucson Arizona and applied for his license as a private investigator. When he goes to help an old friend of Joe, his lawyer buddy, he is drawn into a web of evil and deception that generates from the highest level of Government. The action continues page after page, and there are a few surprises along the way. Alex is much more mature and confident in this book and it leads him to a new love interest and relationships with members of the police force. This is one of those books where the reader can figure things out and then has to hope the investigator can gain the knowledge. The descriptions of the area, the military protocols and the techniques are detailed and very exact. The book is educational as well as tantalizing. You can't stop reading it.

This is a very good action thriller, with lots of action troughout, and it's written in short chapters that are easy to read and follow. The plot is excellent, as are the characters. There are a few redundancies, an unrealistic gunfight, and worst of all no ending. I hate cliffhangers.

Good read

This is a fast pace page turner. That if you didn't read the first book you can still read it as a stand alone. I would recommend this book, it is fun to visualize the place a book takes place. Nice job!

Twisted

Not as shockingly strong as the first novel, felt stunted. The ending is predictable and pedantic. Sorry Joe, I hope the next one is better.

Deliberate Deception by Joe Porrazzo is the second in the Alex Porter series. This time the former Air Force OSI Agent gets a call from friend Joe Prater who is concerned about an old army buddy. The buddy has come up missing. Prater wants Porter to find out what has happened to his friend. This is the first book I’ve read by this author and it was well worth it. The characters really pop out, the plot fast-moving and believable. I definitely will be going back to read the first in the series and give this one 4/5 stars.

I was not disappointed! Great plot and characters...loved the dialogue. Didn't want it to end... but fantastic wrap-up and setup for the book 3 Vionelli showdown. Will Missi be back? Can't wait for the final book of the trilogy.

Great book, I had no idea it was in a series as it was easily read and understood as a stand alone. Book is key gives adequate 'reporting of plot" so no spoilers for me. I read it on a cloudy afternoon as it was hard to put the book down. I give it 4.5 stars because I was not a great fan of the ending or lack of a satisfying one. Otherwise, it would have been a 5. Obviously the author has a lot of experience or researched knowledge of military and law enforcement and other procedural events and has done a wonderful job of keeping the plot moving. It will keep you engaged even though you may discern the main culprit long before the end. Thank goodness he does not give graphic detail of events, sex scenes and if there was profanity in there I am not recalling it as it had to have been well placed and only to make a point. Great read.
Thank you to the author, the publisher and NetGalley for an ARC for an honest opinion. The opinions expressed are my own. Enjoy your read!

"Unique intersection between local law enforcement and this despicable enemy taking into account moral and ethical dilemmas along the way. challenges assumptions about the ends justifying the means, while sweeping you from front to back with excellent dialogue. Fast-paced entertainment."

- "The topic is current and the characters interesting. A great read."

While this clearly was a second or third of a series novel it read well as a stand alone. I liked the characters, although they were predictable for the genre. There is fair balance between plot and character development and while the story is long it moved along well.. I enjoyed it enough that I'm going looking for the others by this author.
