Yellowstone: Survival

Rate this book
Our world has ended five times.
It's been fried, and then frozen.
Gassed with poison; smothered with ash; and bombarded from space.
Extinction is the rule. Survival is the exception.

The Yellowstone Series, a new disaster thriller from critically acclaimed author, Bobby Akart, takes the reader on a thrill ride as a cataclysmic event of extinction level proportions ticks away like a time bomb, awaiting its moment. Millions of people visit the Yellowstone National Park every year blissfully unaware they are on top of the greatest killer man has ever known - the Yellowstone Supervolcano.

Mankind had lived in the very shadows of the Earth's volcanoes for centuries. Even with advanced technology issuing warnings of the potentially catastrophic impact of volcanic activity, we built homes and businesses nearby; boarded tour buses to visit them; and failed to plan for the volcanic winter that necessarily resulted for the eruption of the largest among the - the Yellowstone Supervolcano.

Following the eruption of Yellowstone, resources were scarce and the battle for survival began as man faced off against man for water, food, and medical attention. If Earth's greatest killer didn't take your life directly, it did so indirectly through starvation and dehydration.

Those who remained fought amongst themselves to survive.

Know this. The eruption of the Yellowstone Supervolcano will be more than a spectacle to grab our attention. It will be the end of the world as we know it.

PRAISE FOR THE AUTHOR

"No one, and I mean NO ONE, does it better! Mr. Akart knows how to write a thriller that is too realistic for comfort."

"Vintage Akart ... he scares the wits into you, and then shows you how to survive the greatest threats to our existence."

"When an author can bring out so many emotions in a reader, it is the sign of some damn fine writing."

"Emotional and action packed with plot twists that keep you hooked."

"Packed with suspense, drama, and raw emotion ... Akart has a firm grasp of the science and uses his masterful storytelling skills to shift between the plot and the learning experience which is a trademark of his novels."

ABOUT THE YELLOWSTONE SERIES

Volcanoes are the Earth's way of letting off steam. While most people look at volcanic eruptions as natural disasters, the fact of the matter is, without them, the Earth would explode. Deep beneath the surface of the planet, excess heat builds up, finding a way to vent. Like an overcrowded bus on a hot summer day, the overheated magma stews in its own madness, allowing pent-up frustrations to boil over, until it releases its fury - its HELLFIRE - upon the world above.

Yellowstone is the most potentially explosive, violent, deadly, active volcano on our planet and scientists agree, a catastrophic eruption is inevitable. Yellowstone is extraordinary in its potential and is quite simply, Earth's greatest killer. You've been warned.

Bored now...

I was hoping for an end of the world survival thriller, but what I got was high jenks and shenanigans.
Ashby and Jake are just too cute and sweet for words. Seriously, their loving banter makes me want to throw up. They are in a very serious situation, what with the supervolcano blowing up, and the end of the world, (and the sharks. Let's not forget the sharks) so you'd think they'd be more worried and concerned. But no, love will conquer all, yada yada.
This is one of the most unrealistic EOTWAWKI books I have ever read, and that's saying a lot, cause I've read some real stinkers. Also, this book is full of chuckles. Yes, the word 'chuckle' was used twenty-four times. That's twenty-three times too many.
Results: I wanted a book about destruction by volcano. This is not that book.

Brilliant

I really enjoyed this series. Filled with accurate information. Follow this series around Dr. Ashby a volcanologist and Jake who was a Yellowstone Park Ranger until it's explosion. This series follows them on a journey from Yellowstone to the islands of the Pacific Ocean just of the Mexican coast to find safety.

Yellowstone Survival finishes the series, with this last book being a bit of a let down. Yes, there is plenty of action, getaways, near death struggles, but everything is focused so much on Jake and Ashby, that Yellowstone is somewhat forgotten, except for a few blurbs toward the end.

Mainly an adventure as Jake and Ashby cannot get away from folks trying to hurt or kill them, as they take the yacht south to Mexico, hoping to get fuel and make it to South America. However, with bumps along the way, we finish the series on Isla Socorro southwest of Cabo San Lucas, which is home to yet another volcano.

Ashby and Jake are fleeing the continental United states along with hundreds of thousands of other people. Mexico supposedly has an open border agreement with the US but the scenario doesn't go quite as planned.

Between finding reliable transportation, evading newly released murderers and convicts, as well as not starving or dehydrating, life on the run is highly stressful.

Until the successful end of the series, prepare yourself for murder, mayhem, Hollywood style stunts and more anxiety than the Evening News! Fabulous end!

Once again, author Bobby Akart has taken us on an epic journey of survival when one of the biggest threats to mankind decides to let the world know it is not happy. The Yellowstone caldera rears its ugly head and causes mass destruction and death, leaving nothing in its path but obliteration and mayhem. As we follow the two main characters, Jake and Ashby on their trek away from ground zero, we learn that the caldera was not the only thing to be afraid of when the shtf. They found out the hard way that nowhere is truly safe and to trust no one until they can prove themselves. As the two of them travel to hopefully find some respite and a safe haven, they are met with many unthinkable situations that have them questioning their fellow human beings and surroundings. It made me lose faith as I read along, seeing what depravity comes out of a time of crisis when we should all be coming together to help each other survive. But as with all of Bobby Akart’s books, the realism of what happens at times like these is nothing short but a lesson on what to look for, how to prepare and to remember…there is always hope if you keep the will to survive. This final book in this series is one of the finest I have read. Not only because of the entertainment factor but because of what Mr. Akart put into it…his heart and soul. Throughout this whole series, the amount of time and research that he must have done to bring us such an outstanding series is immeasurable. The details are phenomenal and the information about the Yellowstone Caldera…incredible! Thank you Bobby Akart for the wonderful series…the hours of enjoyment and most of all, for the knowledge that I have picked up along the way while reading your stories. I look forward to the next series where I know you will once again bring into light a headline from the news, long before it ever happens.

Absolutely love it. Bobby takes you through a learning class about earthquakes and volcanoes along with a thrilling ride with the characters in the series. He takes you to the limits of your seat with a roller coaster of twists and turns. Just when you think everything is going along solid, he adds the change up and your off again. He's does this in all of his books. Every time you think you have jo it all figured out, you don't. I am looking forward to the new series while I finish up a few of the others.
Great Job Bobby!!!

Bobby Akart writes stories that could ripped from the headlines. This fourth and last book in the series picks up right from the third and the hits keep coming for Jake and Ashby. Will they find somewhere safe or will they constantly have to fight for survival against nature and the cruelty of mankind. This series isn't what you would see on the Horror shelves in bookstores but it is a horrifying scenario which could happen. I highly recommend this book and series to anyone who loves a real gut punch of a story with great characters.

The Conclusion

Another well written book by Bobby Akart. Survival chronicles the continuation of Jake and Ashby's escape from the Yellowstone eruption and fallout. Though not as strong and scientific as the first two books, I enjoyed it more than I did the third book.
It is scary to imagine what could or would happen to humanity in case of a true disaster of this magnitude. It does make you wonder how you would react and how the various countries would react in a post apocalyptic world.
Yellowstone: Survival is a well written finale to an outstanding series.

Good not great

Love this author and series...well except this final book in the series. Don’t get me wrong it was good, but the edge of your seat ,breath holding experiences just was not there as with the others. Again Mr Akart is a great researcher of all he writes about, helping to build the great books he writes, but in my opinion this one had to much explanation and education. But still worth the read. Looking forward to more from this author.

"Survivors Head Out To Sea"

In the last book of the Yellowstone Series, Jack and Ashby, who were at ground level during the Yellowstone volcano massive eruption, have finally made it to the West Coast. They now voyage on the Pacific Ocean seeking safety on some little known southbound island. Another awesome trek of survival well written by great author Bobby Akart. His novels are not only compelling, but also thought provoking. Highly recommend.

All four books make one great novel

Thrilling adventure, great characters, romance and of course one really big boom from Yellowstone. You learn a little about geology and volcanology along the way too though it’s not always correct, but good enough for the story ( I’m a geophysicist so I’m a tough sell). Good survival story and if you like the genre, well worth the read. Loved it.

The End

Enjoyed the last book. Very detailed information. Believable characters. Happily ever after ending....better be. Jake and Ashby went from one adventure/catastrophic event to another and another trying to flee Yellowstone.

Bobby Akart books are great entertainment and a learning experience. I hope you enjoy this series as much as I.

Terrifically Terrified

I always have loved end of the world movies but never really read a lot of books on them. The ones I did were not that good. However Mr. An arts books kept me on the edge of my seat and up for 4 days because I could not put them down. A great read for all who like adventure and scarring ourselves to death.

Buckle up and hang on!

This is amazingly real, frightening, and too plausible to ignore! Very well researched. Geology, earth science, volcanology, technology, and climatology are intertwined with our cultural climate to create a terrifyingly realistic look at...What if? And then, What next? Would love to see more of our how our heros cope with THIS APOCALYPSE!!

Great series!

It was over far too soon, but the Yellowstone books have been an amazing ride. Great characters, roller coaster adventures, descriptive scenes that are Asay to imagine. I hope to see a ‘post-quell seeing what happens as the time after the eruption goes on, for our heroes and for the world.

Very enjoyable rollercoaster !

The whole series was great! Each book was exciting, nothing was predictable. This book had the extra interest of its nautical nature. They are also packed with new information, so you’re constantly learning things. I’m going to have to read more from Bobby Akart!

This book brings the Yellowstone series to a close. The series started well, but did not continue at the same level.

I have no doubt that in a global-level apocalypse, such as the eruption of the Yellowstone super-volcano, a lot of the worst side of humanity will be on display, but the rapidity (and even enthusiasm) with which the protagonists of the series - Ashby and Jake - go from regular, decent humans to casual killers and torturers, is disturbing. By the end of the series, it is almost as if they need to find a reason not to kill everyone they meet, rather than being forced into a situation where they have to kill people. Along the way, they also start to make a number of bad decisions that are not going to increase their chances of ultimate survival.

As in the previous books, the focus remains almost entirely on the two main characters, and the effects on the greater world are passed on to the reader in a series of overheard news reports or online articles. I found this somewhat dissatisfying, and it lessened the feel of this being a post-apocalyptic series.

On the plus side, the books (all of them) are quick reads, and Akart is good at dragging his audience along with him at a frantic pace. This was my first exposure to Bobby Akart, I may try some of his other books to see if this is as good as it gets (which would be disappointing), or if he wasn't at his best for this series.

Bobby Akart is a very talented wordsmith that combined a lovely romance with horrendous and dramatic action-packed scenes. Some may say negative things about the romantic partnership that formed. But, if the eotwawki causes such terrifying and horrific events (and I firmly believe it would) surely one couple could have one great thing happen to them. Plus, they are a great team and I love their characters. There are many extraneous occurrences related to the volcanic eruption in this book, which is last in the series. But, most of the primary terrors related directly to the eruptions were in the three previous. Yet, there is a tremendous amount of dramatic breath-holding, white-knuckle tension-filled moments. I throughly enjoyed reading this entire series and highly recommend it. I intend to begin another of Akart's series very soon with the ultimate plan to read all of his work.

A BA. SYFY Novel About a Apocalyptic Event/TH I Erupts

BA. has. penned the 4th installment of the PAS. Which has led to the troubling turmoil to Americans with, "What's Next?" BA. Writes SYFY with the facts laid out for you to read. Then he surrounds those facts with adult fiction, which, unless you research the material, will awaken your fears or scare you to death. The impossible happens and the US collapses . The funny brook between civilized man and woman just became extinct. This is an excellent read for the genre.......An added point I like to make when I have read new SYFY comes from a comment Isaac Asminov made at a SYFY convention at Cape Canaveral in the late fifties. He stated, "There is no bad science fiction. The authors idea may be impressive but the presentation does not match the idea!" .......DEHS

Overall, I have really enjoyed this series which is why I scored this as a 4, when this particular book was a 3. I was a bit disappointed since, rather than a focus being on surviving in the post-eruption world, it was mostly about the relationship between Ashby and Jake. This relationship was so consuming for them, they completely lost situational awareness several times. The banter even occurred when they were in actual danger. I do like that some of the science information kept coming and I always like Bobby Akart's maps and illustrations. This final book did not really extend the story of the series that much, in that had the series ended in book 3, we would have been fine there too. Nonetheless, this has been a good series, in particular the first and second books.

Great story, Great series!

As all the books I’ve read from Bobby Akart, this was a great series of books. Anyone who enjoys reading disaster stories will enjoy this series. The plot is a little different from most apocalyptic plots since it’s about the Yellowstone volcano instead of a bomb, or emp. The research involved in learning about volcanos was thorough, interesting, and well presented. The characters are well developed and believable. The situations that befall them are realistic. You will truly be unable to put these books aside until you’ve read them all. I suggest you download all 4books at the beginning of your read so you can continue your enjoyment of them uninterrupted.

Five Stars, Again

Another apocalyptic story by an author who does his research in detail.

This is the first apocalyptic book I have read about the potential extinction level event from a source in our back yard. An extremely attractive tourist attraction is the source for the largest volcanic explosion man has ever seen, or may ever see as water sources are fouled, grain fields are destroyed and animals are all killed in the Northern Hemisphere of the planet. The United States, Canada, Europe and Russia are all brought to their knees and crushed.

I highly recommend this Horror/Science Fiction novel series for your enjoyment.

Volcano of the Year! Yellowstone upgraded to super-volcano as caldera encompasses half of Wyoming!

Did you know the most destructive super-volcano in the planet's history is only a couple States away from anywhere in the continental U.S.? Did you know that the ash spewed into the atmosphere from a Yellowstone eruption will smother the land as a new ice age freezes the Northern Hemisphere? Did you know that Yellowstone erupts on a fairly regular schedule and is a few thousand years overdue?

As Yellowstone winds down, but still throwing thousands of tons of ash and gases high above the northern states, our survivors continue to bind their relationship tighter. Outwitting and outgunning the multitudes of desperation driven thieves and worse, our heroes make their way south of the equator to find fuel, food and ammunition and to outrun the dust and gases swirling in the northern jet stream.

Amazing action and characters drive the storyline, but many survival lessons are sprinkled throughout the series. Give it a try, it's a good read!

Book 4 in this series and, in my opinion, the weakest of them all. Ashby and Jake are two survivors of the massive eruption and end up on a boat in the Pacific. They have to deal with a hostile Mexican navy and modern-day pirates. They work to free some people that live on an island. They have to work to destroy the attempt of would-be slavers and murders.

As far as the Yellowstone eruption, though,. it has gone from center stage in the series to a background event. Actually, this entire book could have left out the entire Yellowstone event and not been very different. Very disappointing.

GREAT SERIES!

I truly enjoyed the ride this series took me on! Just when you think the worst is over, it gets even worse! The emotions, angst, momentum, anguish, hope and even humor play a key role in making the series a memorable one. Bobby Akart is a master storyteller!
Note to author…all throughout the first three books, the messenger bag plays a vital role in the story…why was it missing in the fourth book? I saw it mentioned once when it was placed by a post. Did I miss something about it somewhere else??
