This brilliant book should be required reading for every brainwashed self-hating white person in the world. It just might wake them up to the gigantic con job they've fallen for.
Goad is an extraordinarily good writer and he frequently surprised me with the clarity of the insights in this book. If only this book was a set text in all American universities ... but if it was, the entire education system might spontaneously self destruct.

Years ago I remember reading about the "Doll Test," a saddening study about how black children preferred to play with white dolls rather than dolls who looked like themselves. Psychologists (including I think, Kenneth Clark, instrumental in the "Brown V. Board" landmark case) set themselves to the task of finding ways to teach black children that they were not inferior and were the equals of whites. I am way too young to remember any of this firsthand, but as much as the Baby Boomers get lambasted in inter-generational political squabbles, I think that the central goal of Civil Rights (when it started) was as stated and in earnest, to achieve a color-blind society where people would all be treated as equals and children of all colors would not hate themselves or other children on the basis of something as immutable as skin color.
Flash forward a long time and Congresswoman Nancy Pelosi is on the floor of the House, delivering some sort of bizarre plea in which she speaks of how her grandson wishes that he did not have the skin color or the eye color that he has. She was not mentioning this to illustrate how shocking, bizarre, or destructive the inculcation of self-hatred in her grandson was; she was doing it to demonstrate her own virtue and the virtue of self-loathing as espoused by her grandson. That her progeny was failing a form of the "doll test" (only in this instance he was the doll) was, for Pelosi, an indicator of progress, not a sign of over-correcting in which whites of her generation and succeeding ones had allowed this desire for equality to somehow curdle into one for annihilation and extinction (reports constantly come out, sometimes gleeful in tone, mentioning that white death rates are now outpacing birthrates).
Watching Madame Pelosi speak (and encountering other such self-abasing, perhaps self-annihilating expressions) I had an epiphany, and that was that the only people I truly hated were white people obsessed with their own historical guilt. In a society where one is in power, they can indulge in this sort of behavior and maybe write it off as self-deprecation, or the price of being in a position of privilege (kings, for instance, throughout history, have enjoyed jesters making sport of them, within reason, and even modern-day celebrity roasts seem to retain something of this dynamic). In a society in which your cohort's number is constantly growing smaller, and other groups are becoming more vociferous in their own open rancor to you and their numbers are swelling, taking the default stance embraced by people like Pelosi, most boomers, and white kids currently in college, is a suicidally stupid attempt at literal self-destruction.
Jim Goad's "Whiteness: The Original Sin" devotes most of its pages of short essays to documenting and addressing the ethnomasochism of these white people ("Goodwhites," as he calls them) and their ongoing culture war with "Badwhites," whose ranks include everything from neo-Confederates to run-of-the-mill milquetoast suburban whites whose only transgression is not hating the color of their children's eyes.
I've never been a fan of Goad's style, his cloying need for laughs or his "surface tiresome wit," as I think Stephen King once said of film critic Gene Shalit. When Mr. Goad stops going worrying about rim-shots or being controversial for the sake of it, though, he's capable of good writing and clear thinking. The previous book of his I read, "The New Church Ladies" had a point, but made it with bludgeoning regularity and one predictable pun piled on top of the next; reading a thousand words of Jim Goad is many times a greater slog than gliding through five-thousand words of razor exegesis from the likes of Theodore Dalrymple (a stablemate of Goad's over at "Taki Mag").
"Whiteness" is a better book from Goad, I believe, and a more diverse offering, despite its thematic unity. One standout piece is especially surprising and demonstrates the nuance that Goad is capable of when not snickering or throwing out ad-hominems about how men he doesn't like resemble lesbians. The piece in question, "Of Heritage and Hate" is actually a bit simpatico in its portrayal of Representative Hank Johnson, who, despite his apocalyptic outlook on the Island of Guam, has some measured things to say about why Southern memorials need not be capsized and sandblasting Georgia's Stone Mountain is not going to solve America's problems nor erase its history. Recommended, with the caveat that some people who are even in ideological agreement with Goad might find him too coarse. His puns were especially out of place and ill-warranted in "Blacks Rape Preteen Hispanic in Texas, Whites Get Blamed." I rarely claim the moral high ground on anyone, but he could have spared the reader his wordplay shtick for a couple of pages dealing with the mass rape of an eleven year-old Hispanic girl by upward of twenty black boys.

Bad white person
5 because I have lived this picture my whole adult life from the 1964 act of president Johnson to my retirement. I changed my major to avoid being a static to select hiring,affirmative action and stagnating in a bureaucracy of PC. Today one has to but observe the news channels to witnesses panels of women and minorities dominating every aspect of broadcasting. Commercials, and programs have majority of minorities dominating the show. The education system is run by white guilt apologists and white youth are brainwashed to feel bad about their heritage. Listen to politicians talk about "old white guy's" in a derogatory manner. These are trying times and we haven't seen the worst of take over of the system.

Oh my. This Jim Goad is crazy. Howeverrrrrrrr, he makes a lot, A. Lot. Of good points. I don’t know if there was a show, a movie or a book, but I know there was something called “Dear White People”. Well, I would like to nominate this book as a counter to that. And no. Reading this book will not make you “racist”.

Interesting perspectives on being white in contemporary America.
Goad is not afraid to speak his mind. This book challenges a lot of today's orthodoxy.
Specific topics include:
White slavery in America – Goad has done a fair amount of research on the subject.
Slavery was a very pervasive institution, affecting all ethnicities. See my review of a
Brazilian perspective, História Da Escravidão by Maurilio De Gouveia, which traces the
history of slavery in Europe and mentions the USA only twice.
The way in which white people – straight white men most particularly – have been
demonized over the past half-century. Unlike Goad, I have lived through this and
pondered it at length. What at first seemed like random attempts to undermine our
position in society appears in retrospect to have been anything but random.
The selective denial of the innate differences among human populations. Goad
chronicles the comical contortions to which they go to convince us that transsexuality is
natural and innate, but the differences among races are no more than social
constructions.
Goad's perspective is expressly American. Several Europeans have done the same for
their countries. La France Orange Mecanique is one of many I have reviewed.
Goad's style is the five-page essay. He takes a single point, makes that point, and
wraps it up. 250 pages is just enough for 50 of these essays.
A brave man, waving red flags in front of all of the bull coming from the establishment
Jim Goad is a well-known personality in the blogging world; he is a regular and prolific
contributor to Takimag.
Several things surprised me about this book. First, that Amazon rather than any
Internet forum called my attention to it's existence. It seems to have been published
with very little fanfare. Second, I'm surprised that this is only the second review for a
man with such a wide following. It is unsurprising that the book turns out to be either
self published or pretty close. The publisher is listed as "Obnoxious Publications."
The essay is Goad's format. As the table of contents below shows, he has the ability to
put across a single idea in about 5 pages.
Is unsparing in applying sarcasm to the hamsters/rodents/vermin of the left. His
message throughout is that they do not have cogent arguments. Science is not on their
side. There is no science demonstrating their fundamental precept, that all people are
equal.
This being the case, their argument that things are the way they are because evil white
people wanted so simply does not stand up. There are, and always have been,
differences among individual people and differences in the averages among peoples.
What is new is our studious, willful, reckless blindness to such obvious differences.
He singles out the educators for their obtuse unwillingness to see the obvious. He
singles them out for their egregious double standards, permitting all other groups to
discriminate against white males, but tolerating no such activity among whites. There
are clubs, sports, extra facilities for everybody else except white me. He goes into the
plight of rednecks at some length. While by any objective measure their situation is
worse than that of certain minorities, they never get a break.
He has a wonderful article on Jared Taylor of American Renaissance, whom the entire
leftist establishment works vehemently to hate but who is such a gentleman that he
never gives them anything to attack except facts. He smothers them with facts that
they cannot refute.
Among the facts that Goad, Taylor and others point out is that "white supremacy" is a
canard. They all acknowledge that Northeast Asians and Jews generally do better by
objective measure: SATs, IQ tests, income, status… Moreover, there is just about
nobody who fails to see these facts.
Goad is a student of white slavery in the English colonies of the New World. He has a
couple of articles describing how extensive and brutal it was, approaching the scale of
black slavery. He describes how assiduously the history is suppressed, detracting as it
does from the narrative that black slavery was uniquely evil and is the cause of black
underperformance.
Goad coins a meme he calls "Passover Syndrome." Goodwhites relentlessly signal
their virtue in the belief that when the racial situation blows up, and as whites become
a minority, they will be rewarded for their benevolence toward minorities. As with the
Israelites of old, the avenging minorities will "pass over" the households of the virtuous
good whites. Goad points out the absurdity of this concept. A white person is a white
person. He points to instances, such as the Portland riots, in which minorities attacked
all white people, unable and uninterested in distinguishing the supposed good from the
supposed bad.
It is especially dangerous to identify the authors and perpetrators of this diversity
business. Especially by ethnicity. Goad is unusually brave in doing so, which may well
account for the fact that he had to self publish. He says the things that you cannot say
in modern America. For that alone he deserves 5 stars.

It amazes me to see no reviews for this book.
Insert Borat's PAUSE... "Not!"
Even Jim Goad's biggest of fans would never like to have something as concrete as something as a book review posted in association with their social media name and platform. Out of fear of whom? Well, anyone with a political, hollow shameless agenda, that can be traced back to them - used in evidence by their enemies to warrant an affirmative to their shit slinging accusations, that if by praising this one guy, you are everything that is wrong with the world.
Sigh. Snooze. Get a grip. Truly, get a grip.
Jim Goad is one whom it seems will automatically have you labelled on the Right, Alt-Right, a Neo-Nazi, a racist, a - this, that, blah fuckety blah. It is sad, that we live in such a world.
This has happened to me. And my answer is, I don't care. You can't judge or pass sentences on people like that. "You like Jim Goad, well, you're no better than Hitler!" Oh, man, it is so sad, hilarious, and dim witted and pathetic. You think this makes me this or that, it's your issue, and whilst you're at it...seek help. Or a hobby.
Jim Goad, isn't Right leaning, definitely not Left leaning, he is not fence sitting. He is in his own void. Screaming. Shouting. Calmly and eloquently stating his case. He seems almost apolitical. His writing as a journalist is well researched, well conceived, and his writer-ly voice is his real voice. No sugar and spice. No kowtowing. Upfront. Honest. Real. It is so fucking refreshing.
Raw, scathing, pessimistic, darkly humorous. I love reading his stuff. Some things I can agree to disagree with, but, that's his right to voice and write. And by my enjoying his works makes me a supposed enabler, who are you to think or state that? Does that have any recourse or reason to be a thing?
Goad is in his own warped world of exposure, where truth and hilarious observations and, yes, harsh, brutal, controversial truths are delivered.
We live in a world where reading Jim Goad and praising him casts a shadow over one's morales and personality. That alone, for me, speaks dividends about how important a writer and commentator he is. And what is wrong with the world. How fucking wet eared and un-earnest and fake and misguided society as a whole is. Especially the supposed Lefties. Man, they personify everything that is wrong with this ever political wrought world we exist in.

Even Jim Goad's biggest of fans would never like to have something as concrete as something as a book review posted in association with their social media name and platform. Out of fear of whom? Well, anyone with a political, hollow shameless agenda, that can be traced back to them - used in evidence by their enemies to warrant an affirmative to their shit slinging accusations, that if by praising this one guy, you are everything that is wrong with the world.

First, this book isn't for everybody. Many will find it offensive - my guess is the author wanted it to be that way.
Secondly, I have always admired Jim Goad's writing style - which could be described as a shout to the mind's ear rather than a conversation.
Finally, many of the points are sound. I especially enjoyed the chapter about Iowa.

Some of it made sense, and repeats what I've said for years. Some of it is pretty iffy, and I can see why he would antagonize people. People are people, and no one is ever going to agree 100% with anyone else, and that's pretty definite. P.S. This was my son's revenge for all the things that I suggest he should read!

I first read this a few years ago and speed read it without much deeper consideration.
I have to say, living in the countryside in England, racial tension seems a million miles away, if it even exists to the extent that Goad describes in this book, as it does in the US.
With regards to the recent racial tensions in the US sparked by the George Floyd episode and the subsequent riots, arson attacks, etc, it has become increasingly obvious, from new articles, videos, reports, that America is on the verge of some kind of civil war.
This book, in a very blunt and almost, teeth sucking format, gives examples and analogies of how this 'white guilt' narrative is being used and how it is not just non-Whites that are using it to their so called moralistic advantage.
I'm due to read 'White Fragility' next to get an alternative perspective.

I'm not entirely sure what the answer is to calm these tensions, or even if there is an answer. But what I would point out is that there is a bigger more important target for all colours to focus on, and that is the slow erosion of rights and freedoms by respective governments. I believe that each government and their acolytes in the media use the power of propaganda perfectly to keep all colours fighting each other, whils they pick the pocket of all...
