Tessara Knox has had a hard both of her parents are gone, the only immediate family she has left is a sister she would die for, and since she was little she has been able to read minds. The advantages this gives her always leaves her wondering if the constant pain radiating through her head is worth it. Sometimes the pain is so excruciating that she would do anything to stop it, even end her own life. With all of this riding on her young shoulders, moving to a new town is the last thing she had in mind. But it's in Salem, Utah, that Tessa meets some new people who curiously seem to have powers of their own. Even that seems insignificant when a boy from school goes missing, and all fingers point to Tessa. Feeling a strong connection to a boy she only met once, Tessa makes it her job to find him—or at the very least, what happened to him.
Everlasting was a great read of the Young Adult Fiction genre. It definitely kept my interest the entire time. I am new to J.C. Horton as an author and I must admit that her writing style is very simple, to the point where I was under the impression that this body of work was written by a fifteen year old. But, that didn't change the fact that this book was most definitely captivating.
I think the only negative part of this book was the fact that the editing was absolutely horrible. It read as if it had been edited by a generator such as Grammarly. And I'm not knocking Grammarly. I love the program but, if you don't review the changes, then you get words that have been changed to words written similarly or sound the same. Everything about this editing was horrid but, the story was so interesting, this was the first book I read where the poor editing didn't make it hard to read.
One thing that connected me to this piece was the fact that it was similar to a story my brother has been trying to birth for years. In his situation, he hasn't figured out how to bring his imagination to fruition. Horton has effortlessly given each character a story line and intertwined them perfectly with each other. I give this piece 4 out of 5 stars. If the editing were perfect, I would give all 5 stars. And if the poor editing distracted me from enjoying the story, I would definitely administer 2 stars. One thing I hate is a bad editing job!
Good work, Ms. Horton. I look forward to reading more from you.
This book grabbed my interest from the first few pages!! It was a smooth read. There is always something happening which never bored me!! The pacing was good. Camille has done a great job of twining the book together from different character views. The character development was excellent!
The ending though! It threw me off, I did not expect it at all! I can not wait for book 2's release! I really can't fault this book. I just loved it.
I really like the plot, the storyline, and the characters. I struggled with the writing though. It was very simple and basic, which isn’t always a bad thing, but it hindered the story for me. I fully expect to see this authors voice grow, throughout the series or in other books. The rules of the magic are beginning to become clear, though I think there are probably a few more rules than we have been introduced to in the installment of the series.
I received a complimentary copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review.
I thought it was very well paced and the mystery what was going on and why was fascinating, however, I would add that you could have added some more clues perhaps towards the case since when it was revealed who the killers were I was extremely shocked more than I expected to be. Although if you weren’t going for a mystery and rather a more different approach that’s totally understandable. It’s been a great read and I am excited to see where you go next!
I enjoyed the story. I love the mystery surrounding the plot, and when all was revealed, I didn't expect it at all. Horton keeps me on my toes with all the characters' different quirks. I found Everleigh quite irritating at first, but as the story progressed, I understood and was even able to empathize with her. Tessa is a rather complex character. The plot is actually more intricate than it seems. The second book can't come out soon enough.
This book appears to be written for young adults, especially those the age of main character Tessara Knox, a high- schooler with some special abilities. When Tessara moves to a new town, life begins with finding out amazing similarities with some others, but also starts with a tragic event. Readers will enjoy the characters and the story line in book one of what looks to be an intriguing series.
This was a great first book in her he series. It's a little rushed in areas and long in others but it not to bad. I give the four stars because of some editing issues and repeat of phrases.
