Thirty years after their trip to find the Christ Child, Gaspar, his wife Rachel, and one of the other original wise men, Melchior, are off on another adventure to seek out the adult Christ. As in their first expedition, they find plenty of peril, excitement, and tragedy. Gaspar and Rachel make friends with the Roman Proconsul of the region, Pilate, and his wife. The Jewish people have never liked the ruler, though he has tried to placate them and be sensitive to their needs. King Herod who rules the Roman territories to the north and east of Pilate, and the Jewish religious leaders constantly make his life difficult. Though Gaspar and Rachel have troubles of their own, they come to the aid of Pilate when he calls on them. Their resourcefulness is quickly realized by Pilate, but will that be enough to help the proconsul overcome his enemies who seek his demise? The story takes place in the final weeks of Jesus of Nazareth's ministry in Palestine. Gaspar became a follower of God the Father in his first journey to the Holy Land. His interest in the message of the traveling Rabbi, Jesus, and his friendship with Pilate threaten to tear the community of his camp apart. If Gaspar decides to become a follower of Jesus, it could do irreparable damage to the relationships he has fostered for a lifetime.
