Ugh, starts with a bang, Dempsey grabs you, then it the same old same old storyline formula, he just cookie cutter's it to make it seem different, it has the same tired exhausted elements, overloaded with an extra helping of needless filler and the same old predictable storyline.

He offers nothing new, to keep it interesting, just makes it a hard read for me, like it when authors with each installment of a series they add new twists, elements to the story and just don't keep the same storyline elements making it a predictable read.

Regardless where ever you are reading wise in his books, you know what will happen, how it will end and he doesn't shock you by killing off a character.

By this I mean, Dempsey seems to always make the bad guys so fierce, invincible, having no equal, ruthless, pay off people to get what ever they want and so unstoppable. Just overhypes them, usually they'll kill someone, like he wants to demonstrate how evil, vile they are and started laughing when I realized he'd gone 'Hollywood' with 'The Forbidden Temple'.

Then you have Tommy, Sean and Adriana team good guys, they always seem to be out gunned, they miraculously survive lethal gunshot wounds, when their taken prisoner, the bad guys lose the urge to kill them and at the last possible moment they get rescued or escape.

Add in a couple of devious Indian Archeologists, the Chinese MSS agents, along with good and bad guys and along with a couple of spots that he really could of taken this one over the top. I kept waiting for June to come to the rescue, of Tommy, Sean and Adriana and gave Dempsey a star for not doing it.

Dempsey books are well researched, he mixes real life with his imagination, it's interesting and definitely worth it to read. I just wish he shorten them or at least add new stuff to his stories, you have your main characters, but for me it's just gotten way too predictable, no matter how it's written he uses the same scenerios repeatedly and it's a shame, since he easily could make it just as good as the Quinn Colson series.

⭐⭐⭐ The Forbidden Temple — Ernest Dempsey (Sean Wyatt #16)

Fun, familiar, and occasionally stuck in quicksand.

The MacGuffin:

A forbidden Hindu temple, an apocalyptic trident (the Trishula of Vishnu), and a final vault that’s been sealed for centuries — all perfect ingredients for a blockbuster. Except… Dempsey serves it the same way he’s served the last 15 MacGuffins. Still tasty, but definitely reheated leftovers.

Main Character Traits:

Sean, Tommy, and Adriana are back — bruised, heroic, and basically immortal at this point.
The villains? Comically unstoppable until the exact moment they decide not to kill the heroes for plot reasons. Dempsey goes full Hollywood here: invincible bad guys, improbable escapes, and enough gunfights to qualify for a loyalty discount on ammunition.

The Plot:

Starts with a bang… and then settles into very familiar territory.
Chases? ✔️
Kidnappings? ✔️
Rescues at the last possible second? ✔️✔️
Predictability? Oh absolutely.

The book is longer than most in the series, and you feel it. Some chapters read like padding inserted to reach an acceptable word count. There are cool scenes near the end, but getting there is like hiking uphill in mud.

Writing Style:

As always, Dempsey nails the research and blends myth with modern adventure beautifully.
But this one leans heavily on old formulas, with filler scenes scattered like confetti. Major character developments shoved into two pages of epilogue? Rude. Criminal. Emotionally misleading.

Final Thoughts:

A decent, occasionally fun read — but overly familiar, too long, and not especially daring. Still worth reading if you're a fan, but definitely not the series’ finest hour. I’ll be grabbing the next one, hoping Dempsey surprises us instead of hitting “copy-paste-adventure” again.

Read it if:

You love ancient super-weapons and reliable heroes
You’re already invested in the series

Avoid it if:

Predictability drives you nuts. You wanted fresh twists, not recycled plot beats

Great story! Excellent writing. A few typos remain, but Sean, Tommy, and Adriana have an exhilarating adventure while trying to save the world from an ancient Indian weapon. I love the ending!!

The Forbidden Temple - a review by Rosemary Kenny

There's a very good reason the eponymous temple is forbidden to enter - it contains a deadly Apocalyptic device, the Trishula of Vishnu, said to be the ultimate weapon used by Hindu Gods. The Temple itself has six chambers, but only this last remains undisturbed. Can Sean Wyatt, (with the help of his partners in justice, Tommy Schultz and paramour Adriana Villa) save a kidnapped Indian archeologist, decipher the codes to unlock the final vault and recover or destroy the artefact that could end civilization as we know it?
Ernest Dempsey's wonderful Sean Wyatt Thriller series, of which this is #16 and the latest and greatest, is bang on the money when it comes to nail-biting, unputdownable spy-thrillers and worthy of comparison with the likes of Clive Cussler, Dan Brown and Alistair MacLean's heroes.
The Forbidden Temple would make a great adventure movie such as Indiana Jones in Raiders of the Lost Ark crossed with Ethan Hunt in Mission Impossible and
is sure to be a no 1 best-seller, so make sure you get a copy as soon as the bookstore opens - and tell all your friends not to miss out!

Lovecraft repeatedly reiterated the danger of too much knowledge, of too much exploration. I think he would have roundly decried the Mission Statement of the original Star Trek: "to boldly go where no man has gone before." Lovecraft believed, and illustrated with many of his characters, that the outcome of too much knowledge is inevitably madness. Well, we can add to "madness" also danger, injury, and death--even disappearance. Professor John Portman of Cambridge University, expert on early Indian culture and history, should have heeded Lovecraft. But he did not, thereby creating another case for the intrepid duo of Sean Wyatt and Tommy Schulz. Sean has plenty of experience, both working for the government agency Axis, and since working on his own with partners. This is the 16th entry in the Sean Wyatt series, so be ready for lots of action, compelling suspense, and archaeological intrigue.

Great book!

Sean and his team are in trouble up to their necks and really bad people are the problem. The descriptions of the areas in India are wonderful and I felt like I was with Sean on this amazing journey. Please read this book everyone!

I am a BIG fan of this series but this book just did not do it for me. It seem to never lift more than 2 feet above the ground. Other than some sections towards the end of the book, I felt the writer had to write some non relevant material in and between chapters to get the book to some acceptable level of pages. I think the story can be reduced to less than 100 pages. Even worse some MAJOR character developments/revelations at the end of the book squeezed in on two pages as part of the epilogue?? Unfortunately this book was a BIG fail for me. However - one book does not define the series. As a fan, I will most definitely read the next one. Holding thumbs it is back to the quality I have come to appreciate.

The so-called, “plot,” of this book, is crazy stoopid. Also, book - to me — seems full of no-thought:
.
He’d been in a daze since they’d sat down. “I’m good.”

Lots of “I’m good…good to go…we’re good…you’re good…it’s all good,” and lots of “sipping.

“Her tone was dismissive, and she took a long sip of coffee.”

Sip. Sip.

Sippity.

Sipped….

And lots more simple minded bullsht, if you want that sort of thing.

Story is dumb.

This next part, about the “hero,” who is ex-Delta Force or some sht, is pretty much all one needs to know:

“…she would likely kick his butt….”
.
I had to quit reading this trash and returned it.

Interesting

I’ve read about 10 of the Sean Wyatt books and most are very good. This one lacked the authors good explanation for the story behind the story. I was disappointed. Plus I was disappointed by the lack of more details about the weddings. We knew it was coming but really poor in telling the story. Hope the next one is better.

“The Forbidden Temple” combines the culture and mythology of India in a mystery that opens with Sean Wyatt, security for the IAA (an International Archaeological Agency), his girlfriend Adriana Villa and partner Tommy Schultz searching for a missing archaeologist only to uncover clues to the discovery of a weapon that will stop the insanity of a radical activist who wants save the climate by annihilating mankind.

Well-researched and utterly mesmerizing, the plot heats up when a rich and famous actor breaks into a Vault in a Hindu Temple, stealing the trident Trishula and unlocking its power to destroy anyone or anything that will stop him from dismantling society. Fast-paced and action -packed intensity and suspense escalate as Wyatt and his team working to discover the whereabouts of Dr. Ishana Patel end up searching for a mace that can halt the actor's devious plan. With twists and turns that keep you on the edge of your seat as Wyatt and his team clash with environmental militants and the Chinese MSS, the plot flows smoothly to an exciting ending that has Sean facing his worst nightmare.

Bringing this gripping thriller to life are a cast of multi-faceted and compelling characters like Sean Wyatt who’s easy-going, energetic and has a wry sense of humor. Adriana Villa is his tough, adventurous girlfriend and Tommy Schultz his steady and loyal best friend. But it’s the merciless, cruelty, single-mindedness and vengeance of Brock Carson that adds a cold chill to the story.

I thoroughly enjoyed “The Forbidden Temple”, the 16th novel in the Sean Wyatt series and look forward to reading more by this talented writer.

Losing Steam...

After the homer Dempsey hit with the last book in this series, I’m almost sad to convey my thoughts on THE FORBIDDEN TEMPLE, book 16 of the 21 books in this series.

While the storyline held some interest, and the pace kept me wanting to read more, I must say I wasn’t as satisfied when this book ended compared to Dempsey’s other books in this series. Even connecting together the various sub-storylines didn’t really crystallize the overall message. Maybe after 16 books I’ve become jaded. I’m almost hesitant to read the final 5 in the series. But I will, because I don’t like to leave a series unfinished, if at all possible. (Of course, it’s happened. But I do my best to have patience.)

To be quite honest, I’m losing steam over this series. My primary beef is that I really don’t care for violence. And with Sean and Tommy being more than ready to pull a gun (any gun!) and spray a room or two, it’s getting old. In fact, I was thrilled when Sean Wyatt mentioned in the last several books that when he realized how much he really loved killing, he knew he needed to get as far away from regular guns as possible… then he began looking into Tasers. But then in this book it seems as though Dempsey’s done a 180 and Wyatt and Schultz are back to regular guns again, and killing. What we need is for Sean and Tommy to turn into MacGyver and come up with more imaginative ways to obtain the relics and get themselves out of tight situations.

Not really sure I’ll make it past book #17, the next book in the series: The Omega Project. We’ll see.

The Sean Wyatt series always provides great entertainment, and this is definitely no exception, indeed I think that it's the best in the series so far.
If, like me you love action stories, then this book has it all, a great story, very well written characters with great depth and believability, some very surprising plot twists, superb action sequences, a bit of romance and of course the legendary Sean Wyatt humour, which sometimes manifests itself in rather inappropriate moments (I.e. when his life is in danger).
However, there are also two other aspects of the books in this series which make them stand out, the first is the amount of research that is obviously carried out into the background of each book and the second is the stunning descriptions of the locations in the book.
I received a complimentary copy of this book, but have voluntarily written this review.

Inside His Head

I enjoyed this story as much as I have enjoyed the pre you a Dempsey books. However, I felt we spent a lot of time I side Sean's head. It seemed like we read the thoughts going on inside many characters' heads -- a lot more than before. At times I felt this "mind reading" was only fluff to pad the story. We've learned about Sean's ethical battle over killing in the previous 2-3 books. But this time it seemed we were privy to a major battle throughout this story. I will have to ponder on this shift in storytelling Mr. Dempsey has undergone. But I won't stop reading his books because now I want to know how Sean and Adriana as well as Tommy and June are going to navigate marriage while living dangerous whirlwind lives.

The Forbidden Temple is a brilliant new Archaeological thriller featuring Sean Wyatt. Following the disappearance of an archaeologist Sean, Tommy and Adriana find themselves in India searching for the missing man as well as the item he was looking for. This is a fabulous book that is both interesting and entertaining; Ernest Dempsey has an incredible talent for storytelling that will keep you hooked to the very last page. The Forbidden Temple has everything you would expect .. action, adventure, danger, beautiful locations, history, flashes of humour and a touch of romance. This is a wonderful book and I cannot recommend it highly enough.

Ernest Dempsey has crafted a story that will capture your interest from the first page and won’t let go until that last page. Having read all of the Sean Wyatt books as well as the Shadow Cell books, I believe this is his best work yet, the story line is filled with enough action to keep you engaged, as well as the archeological content that the Sean Wyatt books are known for, not to mention a few well-crafted twists and turns just to keep his reader guessing at what is coming next. This is a must read for any Sean Wyatt fan, and would be a great introduction to the Sean Wyatt series. I received an Advance Review Copy and chose to provide this review.

I did like this book and story. There did seem to be a couple of places(minor) that could have used a little more depth. This, I’ve found, is not an issue with an Ernest Dempsey novel. I’m a geek as far as Googling along in a book or movie to find out other little tidbits about what is going on and to see if there’s truth behind what is being told. I’ve found that his books have a great deal of research that is done to make it feel more real. I greatly appreciate that and always look forward to digging deeper into his stories. I’m already looking forward to digging into the next one.

Another amazing adventure for Sean Wyatt

Ernest Dempsey tells another great story. His characters come alive and I felt like I was globe hopping with them! I love that his books don't contain foul language and sex. It's a real pleasure to read a good story without having to skip over parts like that. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and I'm looking forward to reading more as he writes them.

Totally entertaining read. Ernest Dempsey never fails to delight this archeological thriller reader. And what a finish in the epilogue! Well developed characters, extremely interesting locations and riveting adventures. The Forbidden Temple (Sean Wyatt #16) is better than ever.

And I'm getting ready to read #17 with #18 coming shortly. I usually buy Dempsey's books as a pre-0rder so I never miss out. I read a lot of ARCs, which accounts for my not having read #16 before now.

Sean, Adrianna and Tommy

It was nice to have the three back together again. Sweet revenge doesn't always work out the way you want. Stopping said revenge doesn't always work out the way you want either. Trying to partner with the Chinese equivalent to the CIA is challenging especially when they arrest you under suspicious circumstances. But the surprise wedding at the end was very special. Great job once again. Thank you.

The Forbidden Temple

Sean Wyatt and his friends are on an adventure of fantasy amid everyday concerns for the future of out Earth and of Humanity. Archeological digs and mythical possibilities abound with colorful description of Eastern locals and fabulous treasures to make a fascinating story of discoveries and what might happen if these theories prove to be truths. To have a real conversation with this author would be delightfully enlightening.

I’ve read them all. This is the best

From the first Wyatt to now. Wow!! This was the best so far and that’s going some. Fast paced, great characters and plot. I loved every page. Read it it 2 days and didn’t want it to end. Can’t wait for the next. Move over Patterson. There’s a new sheriff in town and he writes with the best.

Dempsey strikes again

This is a good addition to the series. The characters continue to grow and develop. Sean seemed to be more introspective in this book. Still plenty of action though. Lots of plot twists. I really enjoyed the ending, seemed a long time coming, it felt right. I have read most of the series and have never been disappointed. Highly recommended.

Another page turner from Ernest Dempsey

I appreciate the intensive research that the author uses to show the background and culture of the locations in the book. I enjoy the familiarity of the characters from book to book. Dempsey adds suspense, adventure and humor to the mix to create an enjoyable book to read.

Great Adventure in India.

I thoroughly enjoy all of Earnest Dempsey's books, and this one is awesome. Situated primarily in India, there is plenty of action and a great story. The reader also learns some aspects of Indian culture and Hinduism. I definitely recommend this book.

Enthralling.

Once again I thoroughly enjoyed this archaeological adventure. Unlike some other long running series, my interest is still maintained from start to finish with Sean and company. I love the mix of fact and fiction and glad of the unexpectedly extra happy ending. Now going to start the next in series.

Fascinating, intriguing plot, into the heritage of India’s with the many temples and places surrounding them of beauty. In this we have Adriana along with Sean and Tommy. Sean may have a fear of height, yet he is the first it seems to head into a dangerous situation. Well done, and captured one to the end.

The Sean Wyatt series by Ernest Dempsey somehow keeps getting better and better. The Forbidden Temple combines a great story, believable characters, and excellent action. The post script to the end of the action was wonderful and satisfying, As soon as I finish writing this, I will be ordering the next book in the series, and I look forward to that very much.

As Always, An Exciting Story!

This is #16 of 21 Sean Wyatt books. As good if not better than the others, but I say that after reading each one. I love learning a bit about the areas intrigue and adventure take Sean to. I like the comradery among Sean and the other main characters. One heck of a book, as always!
