Mason Steele's dream was to be a SEAL, but when a disabling injury causes him to have to give up his dream, his choices are a desk job or private security detail. Becoming a "guard dog" for what he perceives as a spoiled rich girl, is not what he expected. But perception and reality can be different. Pansy Hightower may be high maintenance, but once Mason gets to know her, he sees through all the glitz and glam to a girl that could be everything his heart desires.
Really enjoyed Mason & Pansy's story, and highly recommend!
Fav quotes:
"This man was different...all he wanted was her."
"You are a naughty girl." "What are you going to do? Spank me?"
This was fun in places and had potential, but it felt a touch too insta in the relationship department and the story ended much too quickly for me. I just couldn't help but feel it needed something more for me to give it a higher rating.
(And yes, I get that it's a novella, but some novellas just work better for me in this regard, despite their length.)
On a positive note, I enjoyed some of the dynamics between Pansy and Mason, and also got a wee kick out of Lola, the fierce (and funny) chihuahua pup, who had a definite attitude and was super protective of her owner.
That being said, I wasn't overly keen on certain descriptions during heated moments between the leads.
For example:
Again, her words made something hard and needy sizzle through his bowels.
***
She shuddered then, hesitated and something like fury and need, or a fury of need, scalded his bowels.
***
It was hardly her fault his cock was goring her.
When it comes to the intimate scenes, certain words (like bowels and goring ) simply don't work for me. Their connotations and what they bring to mind aren't sexy to me.
Anyways, on a final note, I read this book out of order for a reading challenge, so I'm planning to go back and read the first two books in the Stone Hard SEALs series at some point (as I've enjoyed other books by this author).["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>
Hot SEALs: Guard Dog (Kindle Worlds) (Stone Hard SEALs Book 3) is the second book in this series and it was a great read! This book continues the story of this group that started out in Stone Hard Seals which featured Ryder and Drake, and this one is about Mason which is no longer a Seal because he was shot in the chest and had the steel plates in his uniform in but the shot caused his heart to stop. This book Guard Dog is Mason's story.
After being discharged from Navy Seals, he now works for GAPS-Guardian Angels Protective Services. Although he misses being a Seal, this gives him a chance to still use some of his skills, even if he does not really like it. Now he has been given the job of babysitting Pansy Hightower, a young and beautiful woman who is in grave danger. At first he resents what he thinks is babysitting a spoiled heiress, one who carries her dog around in a purse which is always dressed to the 9's, and I might add, has a terrible attitude.
Mason thinks that Pansy is the typical spoiled heiress who is beautiful and self absorbed and just cares about herself, until when following her one night, she is kidnapped and driven out to the desert by some thugs who have been hired to kill and bury her!
After this happens, and he finds out that her mother who supposedly killed herself, was also a victim of the younger man she married, and who Pansy knows is the person trying to kill her, the team gets together to find out what is going on! While this is happening, Mason and Pansy become very close and suddenly he can understand what happened to his team members Ryder and Drake who went on a mission and came back changed men!
Read this book and see what happens, and you even get to know more about Lola the spoiled and pampered chihuahua, with a bacon addiction and who gets her revenge by destroying Mason's shoes, going to the bathroom on his boxers, and growls! Lola has even been known to be an ankle biter! At one point in the book Mason is shocked when he walks into the room and Lola is sitting on his friend's lap and getting petted. He asks Dane, "How did you get the dog to shut up?" he asked. "Dane shrugged. It was easy." Easy my ass. Eli chuckled. "She likes bacon."
Read this book and finds out how everything turns out and enjoy the author's absolutely snarky dialog, the sexual angst that builds up in the book, and how it all turns out in the end! I really enjoyed this book, I love books with hot alpha men in them, and gave it 5***** bacon flavored stars! A special suggestion-read this book while wearing your tiara, and eating a bacon sandwich!
We catch up with Mason in this story, having been brought back to life after the last rescue mission, he has a slight problem with his heart. Not cleared to be a SEAL again he's forced to take a job protecting people rather then a desk job. Pansy is on a mission to save her family's company but she has someone out to get her. Things are hot between Mason and Pansy! With a little help from his new team and a couple of his old team, they have a plan to eliminate her threat. This was a fun and hot short. I was glad to see Mason get his own story. Another awesome story by Sabrina!
This is a steamy, funny and adventurous book! It was very different from the typical romance that's sprinkled with adventure and that was obvous from the get go. I liked the fact it was conected to another series, yet it isn't necessary to have read it in order to catch up! The sex scenes are hot and the heroes are a perfect match! I just wich it was bigger, 'cause I didn't get enough of the duo.....
Who couldn’t love a short hot story about an uber alpha male and a pampered celebrity and her ever-so- temperamental Chihuahua in a tutu nonetheless? Well, a spin off from one of the secondary characters from the Stone Hard SEALs collection from Sabrina York brings all that and more.
Pansy and Mason are adorable together: her with her smart-aleck mouth, independent streak and Lola the Chihuahua, doubling as guard dog and fashionista. Mason is so torn between wanting Pansy and wanting to do the best job possible, used to instilling fear and obedience in everyone he encounters, neither Lola nor Pansy seems particularly impressed with his size, skill or demeanor.
Told with flair that highlights York’s work, the characters share interior monologues that deepen their emotional draw for readers, as their banter and Lola’s irascible and incorrigible behavior bring full on laughs. Lola in her tutu, rhinestone necklace and booties proves to be a solid break for the emotional action and tension that comprises most of the story. With plenty of bad guys, big alpha men who rush to the rescue and several moments of lose your mind steam, this is a wonderful quick read that will leave you smiling.
I received an eArc copy of the title from the author for purpose of honest review. I was not compensated for this review: all conclusions are my own responsibility.
Mason is out of the service and working for Ryder. His job is to follow a socialite around and keep an eye out for her safety. Pansy notices him and tries to shake him off not knowing why he is following her. That only leads to her getting kidnapped and almost dead. Mason takes charge of her protection. And he also takes control of other activities. Just goes to show ya opposites do attract.
We got to meet Mason in the book before this one. He was shot in the line of duty and is no longer allowed to be a Navy SEAL. This book talks about his new job and how he is tasked to protect Pansy. A woman who has been targeted by an unknown person.
At first Pansy thinks that Mason is one of the bad guys but soon learns that he was sent to protect her. These two crazy kids are very interested in each other but Mason is trying hard to stick to the code. That is, until she undresses for him and all bets are off.
Watching these two fall in love while trying to dodge the bad guys was a fun, fast and hot read.

First off that cover is hot isnt it? And the man inside the book was just as sexy. Mason Steele is feeling a little sorry for himself when he's forced out of the SEALs by a heart issue he'd developed. Having to do guard duty for a spoiled rich businesswoman who carries a dog everywhere is not where he saw his life ever going. Pansy Hightower has no idea who this huge hunk of a man is that has been following her but she is grateful he was when she is kidnapped and taken to the desert to be killed and buried.
I liked both of the characters even with the super fast tracked romance that had to happen. My only little pet peeve was his calling himself a bedroom Dominate but yet at the start of the book we see him feeling sorry for himself and then when the first bedroom scene happens he is hemming and hawing when trying to explain to Pansy his dominant preference. That does not scream Dom to me. Other than that for the shortness of the book it was sexy and had just enough suspense to keep your attention.
I really liked this cross over in this Kindle World Seals novella and book 3 in her Stone Hard Seals.
I think that Ms. York developed the characters with a heart & sole even though they are very Alpha.
Mason Steele is out of the Seals because he was injured. But, he is glad to have a job with GAPS - Guardian Angel Protective Serives, from Cat Johnson's Hot Seals books.
His first assigment is to "babysit" a spoiled heiress. But, he finds out there is more to Pansy Hightower than he thought. She is smart, sassy and determined to save the business her late mother built. While she is resentful to have a "guard dog", she quickly is grateful when she realizes that she is targeted and she wants to live.
As Mason continues to protect Pansy, their attraction for each other grows stronger until they had to give in to their passion. Mason continues to keep Pansy safe even though at every turn danger is just around the corner.
This is a great easy read and you don't want to miss this installment. Ms. York will have you at the edge of your seat and maybe bitting your nails.
"Guard Dog" by Sabrina York is related to the ‘Stone Hard SEALs’ and ‘Hot SEALs’ series and features Mason Steele, who is trying to adjust to his new life as an employee of the Guardian Angel Protection Service after his health issues prevent him from rejoining his SEAL brethren. Pansy Hightower has trouble believing someone wants to kill her, let alone that she has her own personal bodyguard…who won’t let her convince him that she already has a guard dog, fortunately for both of them!
One of the best things about reading a story by this author is the knowledge that it will be an exciting tale with humor and sensuality, and “Guard Dog” is no exception. The combination of sexy SEAL, danger, heat, and the light relief supplied by a ferocious canine with her own wardrobe makes this another fun addition to an exciting series. The glimpses of the other alpha males who serve with Mason whets the appetite for their stories and makes one hope that they will get their time in the spotlight soon!

This is a must read!! This Kindle Worlds Crossover Novella contains the cutest Chihuahua (”guard dog” with a bacon addiction) on the face of the planet. A Navy SEAL—Mason Steele—now working with Guardian Angel Protection Services (GAPS) is assigned to be a “secret” body guard to an heiress in the fashion industry—Pansy Hightower—who doesn’t believe her life is in danger. What starts out as clandestine body guard surveillance duties turns into full-blown body guard duties (in more ways than one), to a mission to take out the person suspected of the attempted murder of Pansy. This book has action, humor, love and did I mention the cutest dog on the face of the planet? This is an easy and quick read. I highly recommend it. It can be read as a stand-alone, but I suggest reading the series.
This was a quick easy read about two opposites that attract. Mason is a former seal, hired to guard Pansy, and he is not happy about it. Her rich party girl life is not for him, but she's in more danger than she knows! Thank goodness he never takes his eyes off of her! After he saves her, from a horrible incident, their chemistry is off the charts! And the relationship that develops is sweet and lasting. I recommend this book. I Really enjoy anything from this author.
Mason is a Navy Seal who was injured in a mission. He now works for a service where he's hired to protect the beautiful Pansy Hightower who may be in danger. He thinks Pansy is a spoiled rich girl. Pansy doesn't like being followed and plans to loose Mason when she discovers he's been following her. After Mason saves her life, he realizes he was wrong in his opinion of Pansy. She trusts him and soon the sparks fly. Mason is determined to do whatever he has to in order to keep her safe.
I liked both characters and enjoyed their back and forth when they first met. It's a quick read with a happy ending.
It's really to bad they only allow 5 stars because this book deserves a 10 star rating!! I love, love, love the brilliance of Ms. York's mind! I started this book on a very bad day I was having and knew I needed an escape. I picked this book because I figured it would be a nail biting, on the edge of your seat, romantic suspense, which was just what I needed! This book though was sooo much more than that! Don't get me wrong, it was suspenseful but it was also funny, steamy and intense! I can't wait for the next book in this series!!!
Sabrina York once more hits one out of the park. I loved Guard Dog!! Sabrina has delivered a well written book with great characters. Mason and Pansy's story is full of action, humor, sizzle and Lola, the spunky little chihuahua. Guard Dog has jumped to the my favorite Sabrina York book list. I look forward to reading more from this talented author soon. Guard Dog is a complete book, not a cliff-hanger.
I didn't like that they hooked up do fast, I understood it but still didn't like it. Also this is a very short book almost a short story, I thought it would be longer, my fault. Book cover guy is hot, girl is kinda a pain in the ads but at least no on ended up pregnant.
Sabrina York has done it again!! Loved this!! Mason is my new favorite hero! Pansy proves that first impressions are not always believable. If you like romance stories about hot Navy Seals you will love this one!
Fun, fast, quirky & steamy. This was a very good short story! I liked Pansy & Mason (& Lola!!). I would have enjoyed possibly a little more relationship-building or conversation on the page before getting to their HEA, but other than that I give it two thumbs up! : )
