Home for Christmas
Can Connor show River a real family Christmas?
When Connor finds River on the roof of the campus admin building, he doesn’t know what to do. His friend is drunk, and shouting into a snowstorm, a bottle of vodka in his hand. The easy part is getting River down; the hard part is insisting River comes home with Connor for Christmas.
River doesn’t have a family, or any place outside of college that he calls home. Not that it matters to him; he’s happy being alone for Christmas in his budget motel, watching reruns of Elf. Only, Connor keeps telling wildly improbable stories of the perfect family celebrations at his parents’ ranch in Texas, and it’s wearing River down. He didn’t ask to be kidnapped. He didn’t want to fall in love with the entire Campbell-Hayes family. But he does.
From one Christmas to the next. This is Connor’s year to rescue River, and himself, for them both to mess things up, make things right, fall in lust and finally, for Connor to show the man he loves what being part of a family can mean.

How alike is Connor his fathers? Very much alike. He has both their traits in him, and at a point in the story I kind of forgot which one of the fathers were his originally. he he. We meet Connor at campus, were he is looking for his study friend River.
River is a guy who has transfered college because of a past happening at the prev college.
Connor finds him on the roof where he challenges some issues. Now , what would you have done in this situation you ask? Probably the same as Connor.
Back at the Double D, they got to know each other little more day by day and River starts opening up to Connor.
I just want to let this hang here because if I say more I'll spoil it totaly.
So let me rather talk about Mrs Scott's ability to include you as a standbyer, watching the scenes unfold in this book. She is clever at this. Then she unfolds the characters on the papers so nicely, and well done. She never strays from the plotline either. Evne a dash of great humor is sprayed throughout the book. Even covering tension as the underlaying layer.
One last thing...if you find yourself wanting more, well, tell the author so. Imho, I am NOT done with this family at all. I want to see Riley and Jack becoming grand dads, and btw...you never know what we get in the future.

RJ Scott's Texas series is one of my absolute favourites, having binge read the lot in about three day, so to find another instalment was planned with the next generation was an absolute joy.
And this one delivers in all ways, a bit angsty, a lot of love all over the place, a misunderstanding that causes the kind of bust-up which is a staple feature of these big dramatic family narratives.
I felt for River, and I'm glad there was no instant curing of his anxieties or sudden disappearing of his symptoms, although I did think perhaps more could have been expanded on once his family background was known.
But, this is a novella after all, not a full blown book, and we got plenty enough detail packed in to bring a fully fleshed festive romance to life perfectly.
Connor is such a sweetheart, even with his need to try and fix everything misfiring a touch, he has a heart as deep as his Pappa's for the right person.
It was great to see all the Campbell-Hayes clan, and the extended Legacy family in passing, and I really hope RJ never closes the curtains permanently on this Texan ranching dynasty.

Connor, 22, has a big tight knit family,
and two dads at their Dallas Ranch, the "D" and is studying Environmental and Engineering Geology.
River, also 22, is studying Hydro-geology,
has no family and is a Gymnast and High Diver.
Connor has wanted River for a long time, but they had a misunderstanding at Thanksgiving, so when Connor sees River on the roof being reckless, he steps up. They travel to the ranch, and spend time with the family, and the whole over-the-top celebrations. River loves the family, and Connor, but never had any of this kind of love growing up.
They begin their relationship full on, and it's wonderful. The guys are planning their after graduation jobs, and rethinking some ideas. We get inner thoughts, concerns, and fears. Our guys are meant to be together.
Hot sexy times are involved,
and we see their closeness. We finally get River's childhood sadness, and it's heartbreaking. Conner doesn't think less of River, he loves him even more. But Connor does make a mistake and nearly ruins everything.
We get a two years later epilogue that will give us what we want.
Highly recommended because R. J. Scott is a brilliant writer who knows how to give her readers exactly what they need.

It's a Campbell-Hayes Christmas...
"Home For Christmas" is really more of a 'Texas the next generation' story. While Jack and Riley are present and accounted for they really aren't the focus of this story. This one is about their son Connor and this boy's not only all grown up he falling and he's falling hard for one River Samson.
Connor and River are like night and day when it comes to their family background. Connor knows he's been blessed. He's a part of a loving, supportive and very in your face family...after all he's a Campbell-Hayes. River doesn't have a family...he doesn't even really know who or where they are it there is any and he's got a few other issues besides...he was addicted to drugs before he was even born...gee, thanks mom! But he's also got a lot more going for him than even he realizes...he's incredibly smart and artistically talented and while he does have some health issues to deal with if he takes his meds and looks after himself he does ok...ok enough to be a member of the dive team and according to Connor he's not hard on the eyes...and now comes the part where I borrow from my original review and really I could spin my gears here trying to be verbally creative but really why? My review of the e-book said what I wanted it to and as well as my thoughts and feelings not having changed I truly don't think I could express myself any better...
I own somewhere around 30 audio books narrated by Sean Crisden...now, I can't say that I've listened to close to 30 because some of these books have been listened to multiple times and not just because I like the stories although that does help...no, I also enjoy listening to Mr. Crisden's narration of said stories.
I admit it, I have several audio books that I've only listened to once even though I really, really enjoyed the story. Unfortunately, what fell short for me was the narration so chances are I may one day listen to them again...maybe, but unlike Sean Crisden and a select group of other narrators I probably won't be listening to them so many times that I can practically recite the book with them....it can be the best story you've ever heard but it takes the right narrator to draw you in over and over and over again and for me the combination of RJ Scott and Sean Crisden guarantees this happening.

Texas #9 is as always about the ‘Campbell-Hayes’ family but it’s the next generation of the ‘Campbell-Hayes’ clan. At 22 years of age Connor and his friend River are both finishing their studies and getting ready to go out into he world. River knows what he wants to do…he’s going to spend a year working as a volunteer in Kenya helping to assist with protecting their resources and assisting with fair distribution before returning to the states and settling into a job. Connor on the other hands has a life mapped out that he’s come to realize isn’t quite what he wants… he’s going to work at CH with his dad, Riley and his sister Hayley…now if he could just work up the courage to tell his dad’s that this isn’t what he wants for the rest of his life.Now for the rest of the new stuff...let's talk audio...so far Ms Scott's 'Texas' series is up to 9 books all of which are out on audio and all of which are narrated by Sean Crisden. So this is the point at which I can fan girl a bit because not only am I an avid fan of the author I am an avid fan of this narrator.
As River and Connor maneuver their way through the holidays with the loud, gregarious and loving Campbell-Hayes family. They also have to work their way through changing and growing emotions as their friendship becomes something more.
Just like with Riley and Jack, I really can’t decide who I liked better in this story I went back and forth between these two men for varying reasons. I loved Connor and his big generous heart and even though like River there were times that I probably would have wanted to punch him. I loved that Connor wasn’t the type to just give up and walk away. He was willing to get in River’s face with his worries and concerns and when River tried to walk away Connor followed, letting River know that he wasn’t alone and there was someone who really and truly cared. I loved River’s strength no matter what life threw at him he kept going, kept trying and working to have something better for himself.
People are so much more than the sum of their past and River truly personifies this…it’s not our past that defines us but where we go and how we get there that shows the world the measure of who we are. River was strong and resilient. He may not have always done the right thing, but he never gave up and he didn’t let himself be defined by a past that for him only held pain and disappointment.

Home with a capital, because he has everything you call home.

With the environments of Christmas and a friendly kind family, some hurt and comfort, engaging characters, nicely developing and written in a appealing way... that’s exactly the right combination for a great Christmas Holiday story.

It's Christmas with the Campbell-Hayes family...
I freely admit that although I was looking forward to this one. I really didn’t expect to enjoy it as much as the previous books about Jack and Riley…well, I was wrong. I love Connor and River and quickly came to realize that comparing them to Jack and Riley, which I think I was doing in my mind, was like comparing apples and oranges.
Connor’s been lucky, and he knows it. Growing up with the kind of warm, supportive and loving family that some can only dream of…others like his friend River.
River doesn’t have a family and once he’s done with college his one safety net will be gone but he’s convinced himself that he’ll be ok. It’s how his whole life has been, and he knows how to do this. But when Connor finds him drunk, alone and shouting on the roof of the campus admin building things are about to change. When Connor basically decides that River’s coming home with him for the holidays, every thing’s going to change for both of them.

I can own that. Despite this little niggle of mine, I truly loved this story and the feelz…so many wonderful feelz!!!
‘Home for Christmas’ is about two men with very different backgrounds coming together and realizing that the past may have helped shape them but it’s the present and the future that will define who they are and what they want and it’s about opening your heart, finding love and hope during the holidays it’s about how the family you make and the family you are given can become one to create the family you love and the one that loves you.
If you love R.J. Scott’s series ‘Texas’ than you won’t want to miss this one! Definitely recommended!

One of my all-time favorite books is The Heart of Texas, the first in the Texas series, and Jack and Riley Campbell-Hayes will likely remain my favorite couple of all time in my heart forever. Seeing them now, over ten years after our last visit with them, brought that home to me. This is the story of their son, Connor, all grown up now, and the forever love he finds with River Samson, the man of his dreams. Jack and Riley are present throughout this story, and I must include one statement about them: they are still hot, still gorgeous, and still very much in love. Thank you for including them, RJ Scott!
Now, on to this story. Connor is a really sweet guy. Built like his pappa, Jack, he’s also quiet like him and he’s learned how to sit back, take in the facts, and proceed to fix any situation that comes along. But his friend River stymies him. They had a brief encounter at a frat party and then River ran off. As the story opens, he’s standing on a rooftop in the snow, waving a bottle of booze around. He’s coatless and scares the hell out of Connor, who fears he might jump.
When Connor drags him away, he virtually kidnaps River and drags him home to Texas to the big, noisy, crazy family he loves so much. There he meets Max, Connor’s autistic brother, who’s grown in so many ways. (Another thank you to the author for showing this Max to us.) And he meets Connor’s dads, his sister, his aunts and uncles, his grandmother, and more. In fact, he’s overwhelmed by the big family and wants nothing more than to hide from them and to hide his secrets about his own family.
RJ Scott brings us a beautiful, heartwarming family holiday story, complete with romance and heartache. I really enjoyed this one, but I must say that Connor’s sex scenes with River made me feel a little weird—almost as if I were spying on my own grandchild. It was odd to be present for grownup Connor’s sex life when I was there at the beginning when Riley and Jack selected their surrogate. Needless to say, I skimmed those scenes because I just couldn’t stay there and watch. LOL. May be just me, but eww, I couldn’t do it.
In any event, I believe those who’ve followed the series will love this one. I definitely recommend this to them and to those who enjoy family drama, hurt-comfort, and of course, holiday season romance.

Needless to say, I skimmed those scenes because I just couldn’t stay there and watch. LOL. May be just me, but eww, I couldn’t do it.
In any event, I believe those who’ve followed the series will love this one. I definitely recommend this to them and to those who enjoy family drama, hurt-comfort, and of course, holiday season romance.

Damn.
Last 20% fucked this(and the rating) up for me. Because for me last 20% of this book felt sooooooooo rushed. 80% were good, nice pace, i liked characters, felt for River, loved the family. It was all about Christmas and few days before/after. And then last 20% of the book was... about brand new year, months, moving in together, graduation and sooo many stuff which were just... rushed and cramped in there. Alongside with drama, which for me(let's remember, this is just my opinion) felt out of Connor's character. I just could not believe that he would do that behind River's back(i mean - Connor is smart. He would know that River would not feel good that things like this, which are already very touchy subject, is done behind his back.).
For me this was nice Christmas getting together story, which touched some serious problems too(Rivers past....). But that last part... i just can't. It felt like someone said that author needs to write a whole year in 10 pages. In real there were of course, more than 10 pages, but the feeling still was the same - so rushed, without depth and it would be so much better if this would have stayed just a Christmas story, with nice pace and logic.
I did not mind epilogue, which was after 2 years. That's fine.

I was so excited when I heard we were going to once again visit the D! Reconnecting with Riley and Jack and all their kids. I love visiting this family.
In this story we have Connor, twin of Lexi . We also get to know River, who Connor has had a major crush on since first meeting him in the hall at college. It was reciprocated although that wasn't obvious at the start.
Throughout this story we not only get to get to know River and Connor but we also get a front row seat to watching their relationship grow. We get to follow Connor through his last year of college and the start of his relationship with River. Connor is so sweet and all he wants to do is make the world perfect for River. River has never had even a glimpse of the kind of family Connor has. He longs to be part of it and struggles with his jealousy over all the love and belonging that Connor has. I loved that even when River tried to run at what he perceived as a betrayal that Connor wouldn't let go. I was more impressed that River was willing to listen and take a step of faith back into Connor's arms.

C’è da dire che questa nuova storia, anche se molto dolce, non riflette la bellezza del precedente volume dove avevamo rivisto tutti i personaggi più amati. Comunque sia, una piccola finestra sul loro mondo la trovo gradita, anche se, forse, RJ Scott potrebbe dedicarsi ad altre inventive. Nove volumi sono tanti per una serie romance e lo si nota dallo stile narrativo che oramai perde pezzi e si disperde.
Questa volta il protagonista è Connor, uno dei due gemelli, il più giovane precisamente, e anche la pallida copia di Jack, senza le sue paturnie, oserei dire. Il ragazzo è un indeciso, per dirla gentilmente. Studia una materia di cui non gli frega nulla con l’intento di proseguire con un lavoro che non gli suscita il minimo interesse. In verità vorrebbe dedicarsi all’insegnamento, ma ha paura di dirlo ai genitori. Sul serio?! Mai sono stati descritti padri più amorevoli dei suoi, non gli hanno mai fatto mancare nulla e, anzi, lo hanno cresciuto con saldi valori e principi. Com’è possibile che abbia paura del loro giudizio?! Sta di fatto che il ragazzo è in procinto di tornare a casa durante le feste natalizie universitarie e rivedere l’amata famiglia, quando, di punto in bianco, vede River visibilmente ubriaco camminare sul cornicione del dormitorio.
River è tutta un’altra storia rispetto al protagonista. Non ha avuto un bel passato e non ha nemmeno un bel presente a dirla tutta. Stando a lui, gli resta solo il futuro, incerto ma con tante belle idee sul piatto. Allora perché è sul cornicione? A causa di Connor e a tutte le belle chiacchierate sulla famiglia perfetta, il che gli ha reso ancora più misera la sua situazione facendogli prospettare il Natale in una spoglia camera di un motel a guardare la tv in compagnia della bottiglia e di qualche snack.
Connor, il quale non ha ereditato neanche una briciola dell’acume del genitore biologico – direi praticamente nulla – si ritrova a temere per la vita del ragazzo di cui è innamorato, anche se lui non lo sa, e la paura di perderlo lo spinge ad agire: salvarlo, preparargli la valigia e trascinarlo in un viaggio non voluto fino al ranch di famiglia per passare delle splendide vacanze di Natale rumorose e calorose. Uno shock non da poco!
Ammetto che mi sarebbe piaciuto entrare nel romanzo e immergermi nel loro Natale; purtroppo, oltre a Max e ai genitori, non vediamo granché del resto della famiglia, quasi per niente Hailey o Eden, neanche un accenno ai nonni. Un po’ triste…
River mi ha lasciato un buon ricordo, al contrario del compagno, ma la loro storia d’amore risulta veloce, anche troppo, assolutamente non paragonabile a quella di Riley e Jack. Per River non è assolutamente naturale fidarsi, ma l’amore e il calore lo rendono incline a provarci, avrà fatto bene? Lo scoprirete.
Per concludere, devo essere onesta nel dire che non sono rimasta entusiasta ma, tutto sommato, vedere anche i gemelli diventare grandi mi ha donato belle emozioni. Spero per tutti noi che questo sia l’ultimo capitolo, ma qualcosa mi spinge a pensare a un decimo volume e, se fosse con tutti i personaggi, lo preferirei.

Connor Campbell-Hayes takes after his fathers, so much he is even referred to as Saint Connor.
The story begins with Connor, being ready to head home for Christmas, spotting River, his college friend, on the roof of our building. In the snow, without a coat, and he was on the ledge, and he’d been drinking.
Thinking River wants to jump and commit suicide, Connor decides to take him home to Texas.
Being at the Campbell-Hayes ranch is being around their large extended family. River is alone in the world and is very overwhelmed with the big warm crowd, and slowly starts to opening up to Connor. He even starts to want to be a part of the Campbell-Hayes clan.
Jack & Riley became grandfathers of Lily, Mason's sister, but I was wondering why Diana, Mason's two years younger sister, was not mentioned. What happened to her?
And Beth, Jack's sister, where is she? Did I miss somethings?

Home for Christmas is book nine in RJ Scott’s Texas series. I absolutely love this series and Jack and Riley and their families. I was excited to see a book with Connor as an adult because I knew I’d get more of Jack, Riley and their family.
I loved seeing Connor all grown up and seeing the influence of his dads on him. He has a big heart and just wants to make everyone happy. River was a complex character who really needed more than a novella to be truly explored and understood. His story felt rushed.
I know this author enjoys the soap opera drama stories but I wasn’t expecting it in this holiday novella. Shame on me. That didn’t stop me from reading it but it did take me longer than normal because it was just so much, nonstop drama that I found it exhausting. For those who love drama in their books, this one's for you!
I didn’t get as much of the family as I expected or wanted but, hey, it’s a novella! And it’s about Connor and River and their story was already too short. I would have loved to have a longer story with them. I never felt like their story ended with a HEA because it felt like they only just came together and the next page was the end. There was a nice epilogue that helped a little but I really needed more of these two. I needed the payoff for the drama.

Another installment of the Campbell-Hayes saga – count me in! It’s set a few years after the previous book and it was great to see all the characters again, especially in a Christmas setting which is all about family to start with. Jack, the cowboy, and Riley, the oil man, are still very much themselves. Going through their Christmas traditions with the entire family there as events unfold was simply wonderful. There is drama, some angst, but mostly this story focuses on the love this family shares and how it affects everyone in their lives.

The ratings for this Christmas story are quite high and the beginning was very promising.
However, somewhere in the middle the story lost me and all the (unnecessary) drama got too much for me.
The plot was interesting, Connor, coming from a big loving family and River growing up in foster care without any family spend christmas together with Connors dads on their ranch in Texas. Unfortunately the connection between the main characters did not feel convincing or genuine. The end (before the epilogue) was over dramatic and in my eyes stupid and for me ruined a story that had already lost a lot of appeal.
Maybe I am a little harsh, this is a Christmas story and not completely bad, but for me it wasn't really good either, so it left me disappointed. All in all 3 stars and an okay read.

Ive really missed being a part of the Campbell-Hayes family.
This instalment sees Connor all grown up and bringing his college friend River home with him for the holidays.
River has had a troubled past and slowly Connor gets to the bottom of it as their relationship evolves.

I'm FINALLY done with this series, hallelujah! Book nine is definitely my favorite in the series after book one. I really struggled with the others and almost dnf'd on several occasions.

Kidnapped for Christmas
This was a great feel good holiday read. Connor is unbelievably sweet and River needs all that sweetness to act as a balm to soothe all the hurts his heart holds. I enjoyed seeing River being folded into Connor's family because he was in desperate need of a place to belong. This touching story is a great addition to the Texas series.

Connor is all grown up. He clearly inherited the best of both his Dads, demonstrated in his caring, determination and loyalty. So clearly the path to his Happily Ever After has to have some detours.
Enter River. He is a man consumed by his own demons and uncertain of his own strengths, even after Connor points them out to him. This story beautifully manages the messy process of putting all your broken bits back together, creating a poignant Christmas story.
Home for Christmas is everything fans of the Texas series could want - enough Riley/Jack to know that the things readers adore about them remain; updates on siblings Hayley, Max and Lexie and a few brief cameos from the various ranch hands/Legacy staff and extended family. RJ Scott drops us back into their world, although years have passed, and somehow it feels as if we didn’t miss those years after all.
There are a few small details that are missed (what happened to Carol? Is she still an honorary part of their family? Did she bestow her cookie recipes on the guys?) and some things that are glossed over (an ever-so-brief mention of the twins’ surrogate, an equally brief mention of a contingency plan in place for Max) but overall, readers should feel satisfied with the quality of the catching up with beloved characters. Given the large number of characters that have been introduced over the Texas and Legacy series’, and the word limitations of the current tale, RJ did an admirable job of trying to ensure nobody was left out. As always, there were plot points that I personally would love to explore (more about the dogs) in future books (nudge nudge to the author) yet I felt satisfied at the conclusion of this book.
If you’re new to the Texas series, this story is strong enough to be read as a stand-alone. But do yourself a favour and start at the beginning; the complexity of relationships and the richness of life at the D is balm for the heart. (The audio by Sean Crisden makes the experience even more fantastic, if you’re so inclined.)

This latest book in the Texas series starts with Connor in his last year of college in Denver. He's got a friend in River that he'd like to make into something more, but he's leaving to go back to Dallas for Christmas. When he finds that River has nowhere to go, he forces him into going home with him to the D.
Connor is a fixer. He's got a huge heart and wants everyone to have what they want and to be happy. But when River has some major issues and won't let Connor in to fix them, he's at a loss of how to proceed with the relationship. Connor's dads, Riley and Jack are perfect. They are the epitome of what a supportive, healthy, loving family means and they waste no time letting River into their fold.
But, for River, all of this love and family is overwhelming. He's got a shady past that he's kept secret and doesn't know how he'll ever fit in.
The characters of River and Connor were so very different from each other. Connor is an open book. He wears his heart on his sleeve and I loved that about him. He's always looking for ways to make everyone happy, which fulfills him. On the opposite end of the spectrum is River. He holds everything in, building up walls around his heart. I loved how Connor was able to tear them down with words. I loved how he gave his whole self to River and how River was able to accept his family as his own.
The family dynamic was just awesome to read. Jack and Riley were so different as well and they made it work so well for them and their family. They knew each other so well and were able to show that understanding and love and be an example and it was really refreshing to read. I truly enjoyed the familial theme of this story and the bonds that were so easily created with love.
As ever, R.J. Scott's writing was impressive and engrossing, leaving me wanting more of Connor and River's story. I always feel part of the action, like I'm sitting in the backseat of the car with the characters and I love that about her writing. Another awesome adventure.

Connor is a fixer. He's got a huge heart and wants everyone to have what they want and to be happy. But when River has some major issues and won't let Connor in to fix them, he's at a loss of how to proceed with the relationship. Connor's dads, Riley and Jack are perfect. They are the epitome of what a supportive, healthy, loving family means and they waste no time letting River into their fold.
But, for River, all of this love and family is overwhelming. He's got a shady past that he's kept secret and doesn't know how he'll ever fit in.

It’s almost hard to believe that this is the ninth book in the Texas series, but it’s so easy to lose yourself in the Campbell-Hayes family. And while this could realistically be read as a standalone, I would highly recommend reading the series in order, if for no other reason than to understand the closeness of the family and their dynamics.
Connor does seems like he has it all, and doesn’t want for a thing—which is something that River can’t relate to (and maybe even resents a bit). Connor also tends to turn into a pretty chatty guy around River, while River is quite the opposite and seeks quiet and order. Connor’s protective side shines bright when it comes to River, at times to River’s chagrin. They are wonderfully well-matched though, and balance each other out.
I felt bad for River’s childhood, but also proud of him for rising above. He’s intelligent and caring, but his defense of his actions at the start of the story felt a bit off to me. I felt just like Connor with a need to protect River after I heard his full story, and loved how he was so easily accepted into Connor’s family…a place River is not at all familiar with but still craves so badly.
I really enjoyed getting to hear Connor’s story after spending so much time with this family throughout this series. Home for Christmas is another excellent addition to the Texas series, and was a solid 4-star read for me. It did get a bit angsty at times, but all of the happy parts more than balanced that out. This book is meant for readers 18+ for adult language and sexual content.

This audio book blew me away! I loved it so much and will definitely listen again and again.
I'd read the ebook version and really enjoyed it, so I was excited to listen to Sean Crisden perform the sweet story of River and Connor. What I wasn't expecting was how much rawness he brought to River and how much emotion he placed in Connor. There were parts that completely ripped me apart (the scene with the taxi at the end). It was just so completely perfect.
The story is a tale of two college almost-graduates. Connor, with his perfect family, money, and perfect future awaiting him, and River, with basically nothing after he graduates. The bitterness of one person and the acceptance and support of another. It's about how having the love of family can lift you and provide hope.
I loved Max. If you don't know who Max is, you really need to listen to this story. Well, you need to listen to it anyway!

Connor Campbell-Hayes is in his senior year of college. His best friend and love interest is River Samson. Connor is finishing a geology degree and is expected to take a job at his dad's company CH Consulting but he's not sure it's what he really wants. Connor doesn't want to hurt his dad Riley but is CH the job for him. River is also a senior and working on a geology degree. He also is a diver on the college dive team. River has a lot of issues and secrets he's keeping from Connor. Connor finds River in a precarious situation and decides to take him home to the Double D for Christmas. Connor slowly worms his way into River's heart and they become close. River starts to come out of his shell over the Christmas holiday and thinks life can actually be beautiful. Going back to finish up the last of the semester Connor and River move into one room and spend all their extra time together. Connor gets an idea to help River and it backfires badly. Connor learns he can't fix everything and River learns to trust and lean on others.
I really liked this book. The next generation of Texas is something I've really been looking forward to. I needed Connor and River to spend more time together and bond more because it felt a little lacking. Their relationship felt like two people casually dating not two people settling into a HEA.
