"When I ran away, aged seventeen, I didn't do it for the usual reasons...I did it because I was looking for adventure."
My name is Mira Brand, and I'm a Seeker - a treasure hunter who can cross between worlds seeking long-forgotten treasure hoards of ancient races. My home is London, but I work in the worlds beneath our own, seeking after my own fortune.Or at least I was, until I was beset an unimaginable tragedy. My life torn apart, I was finished. Adrift.
Except...they wouldn't let me out. Not that easily. One more time, I said. One last adventure. And after that...I'd be done.
Robert J. Crane was born and raised on Florida's Space Coast before moving to the upper midwest in search of cooler climates and more palatable beer. He graduated from the University of Central Florida with a degree in English Creative Writing. He worked for a year as a substitute teacher and worked in the financial services field for seven years while writing in his spare time.
For me, "We Are A Family" is more fitting as Book 6 was completely about Families and Relationships. Touching on the very old "we know better than you so just listen to us" was a very brave decision, if this was written before the 1980 or 1990s, it surely would have received a very strong backlash.
At the same time, paring that up with teenagers turning young adults who demonstrated they can understand the world and sees it for what it is was a good way of balancing out the things this novel has brought to the surface.
A must read. Both parents and coming-of-age kids will learn a lot from this 6th book in this ever expanding world of Mira Brand.
The continuing roller-coaster ride that is Mira Brand.
Following on from the previous book finds Mira back at home with mom and dad. Kind of in limbo only to be called back to the worlds of seakers by an unlikely face or two.... As with the other books in this series the book delivers on action and adventure with No swearing, no sex stuff and little to no gore. Descriptive prose that will fire up the readers imaginations. Would be comfortable if this was on YA shelves but saying that it would appeal to all ages who love the old Indian Jones meets magic crystals vibe. Would recommend the whole series to hardens readers and children who will enjoy as a driver into the world of books/reading.
Just when I think that I have the measure of this series and these characters, Crane switches it up. I don't know why I'm surprised. It's not the first time he's done it.
But this time, the change has produced a side of Mira we haven't seen before. I like her more as a character as a result.
This addition to the series is something of a catharsis. There's a feeling that things are reset. Lines are drawn. Plans are made.
I look forward to seeing them unfold.
I voluntarily reviewed an advanced reader copy of this book.
