A famous actress goes head-to-head with a powerful politician when she dares to name her abuser publicly in this small-town romance ripped from the headlines by USA Today bestselling author Tess Thompson.
Genevieve Banks is one of Hollywood's most successful actresses. While on set in the small Oregon town of River Valley, she forms a deep friendship with her handsome male co-star. He wants more, but trauma deep in Genevieve's past holds her back.
When her closely guarded secret is revealed, Genevieve must make a painful choice: stay silent and let others suffer at the hand of the man who victimized her or confront the violence in her past and hold her abuser accountable.
Tess Thompson Romance...hometowns and heartstrings.
Tess Thompson is the USA Today Bestselling and award-winning author of contemporary and historical Romantic Women’s Fiction with over 60 published titles. When asked to describe her books, she could never figure out what to say that would perfectly sum them up until she landed on, Hometowns and Heartstrings.
She’s married to her prince, Best Husband Ever, and is the mother of their blended family of four kids and five cats. Best Husband Ever is seventeen months younger, which qualifies Tess as a Cougar, a title she wears proudly. Her Bonus Sons are young adults with pretty hair and big brains like their dad. Daughters, better known as Princess One and Two, are teenagers who make their mama proud because they’re kind. They’re also smart, but a mother shouldn’t brag.
Tess loves lazy afternoons watching football, hanging out on the back patio with Best Husband Ever, reading in bed, binge-watching television series, red wine, strong coffee and walks on crisp autumn days. She laughs a little too loudly, never knows what to make for dinner, looks ridiculous kickboxing in an attempt to combat her muffin top, and always complains about the rain even though she chose to live in Seattle.
She’s proud to have grown up in a small town like the ones in her novels. After graduating from the University of Southern California Drama School, she had hopes of becoming an actress but was called instead to writing fiction. She’s grateful to spend most days in her office matchmaking her characters while her favorite cat Mittens (shhh…don’t tell the others) sleeps on the desk.
She adores hearing from readers, so don’t hesitate to say hello or sign up for her newsletter: http://tesswrites.com/. You’ll receive an ebook copy of her novella, The Santa Trial, for your efforts.
I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review. Riversnow by Tess Thompson brought me back to the wonderful River Valley for the fourth time! This book tells the story of Genevieve (Gennie) Banks and Stefan Spencer. Ms. Thompson draws you in from the very beginning, where we see a glimpse of Gennie's past. I loved watching Gennie grow and overcome her past. I did not want this book to end, I wanted to keep reading about Gennie, Stefan, and their families. Throughout the book, the memorable characters from River Valley are present and we continue to see brief looks into their lives. I enjoy that Ms. Thompson continues to include the characters that we have loved in previous books. I can't wait to read another Tess Thompson book! This is a must read for those that have read any of the River Valley series. If you haven't read any of them, what are you waiting for?!?
I loved this book because the writing is excellent, Ms. Thompson makes her characters feel real. You think you are part of this story and care about everybody. I couldn't put it down, I read it in one day. I can hardly wait for the next book in this series. Well done, Tess Thompson.
Riversnow is a heartbreaking drama, with a lot of suspense thrown in. Genevieve Banks is one of Hollywood’s highest paid actresses. When filming opposite Stefan Spencer in River Valley, Genevieve and Stefan become fast friends, and they have a connection neither of them thought possible. Stefan wants to bring their relationship to the next level, but Genevieve’s past still troubles her, and she’s afraid to take that step. When her secrets are revealed, Genevieve has to make a heartbreaking choice: stay silent and let others suffer too, or confront the demons of her past.
The book is deep and powerful and painful, and a thousand emotions all rolled into one. Once I started reading, I couldn’t put this down. The emotions you feel as you’re reading, the emotions portrayed by the characters, it’s all very real, raw and powerful. The characters are so realistic you could imagine them walking right out of the pages and starting to chat with you. I loved tefan, and I absolutely adored Gennie, and was so proud of her and her strength and resilience.
This is the first book I’ve read in the River Valley series, but it won’t be my last. I plan to pick up another one soon, when I have some spare time (always scarce on spare time) and when I recover from all I felt while reading this book. If you’re not afraid to have your heartstrings tugged, and you enjoy romance books that don’t shy away from some very real hurt in the character’s past, I would recommend this book.
Riversnow is another triumph for author Tess Thompson. It is the fourth installment in her highly-acclaimed River Valley series, but works equally well as a stand-alone novel.
In each of the River Valley books, the author has focused on a few main characters, while introducing others that appear in future storylines. Readers met Genevieve Banks in Riverstar. When this fourth book opens, we are taken back into the past, to a snowy town in Wisconsin. We are given an emotional view of a terrifying event that takes place when Gennie is a shy fifteen-year-old child. This incident shapes the rest of her life and becomes the foundation of Tess Thompson’s latest novel.
This story is a powerful illustration of how events that happen to us as children take root in our hearts and minds and shape who we become as adults, and how the decisions we make in our lives affect all those that we love—sometimes as much as they do ourselves.
I’ve read each book now in the River Valley series. I’ve enjoyed every one of them for different reasons. Tess Thompson has managed to center her novels largely in one setting—the enchanting town of River Valley— but she’s brought in a cast of characters who are wonderfully diverse, who come from all different backgrounds and who have a variety of experiences that make up who they are. She has deftly woven elements of domestic abuse, alcoholism, homelessness, suicide, political corruption and, most of all, love into this collection of tales, making them incredibly real and very relevant.
Although there were many things about the first three novels that I could relate to, Riversnow has touched me the most on a personal level. This was an emotional but satisfying read, and a perfect addition to the River Valley series.
2019 Book Hoarders Challenge: Story with a blue cover
Somehow I doubt I would have read this story except for needing to read a book with a blue cover. Yet, I'm glad I did. The story begins a year ago with a conversation between a nun who happens to be a teacher and her classroom of girls. It discusses abortion and the implications. Shortly afterwards, one of the girls leaves the classroom to go to interview a man who is running for political office for the first time. He rapes her, threatens her, and dumps her on a backroad.
Months later, she discovers she is pregnant. She had not told her mother about the assault initially, but now she must. They make some weighty decisions that night, ones that changed their direction in life.
Twenty years later, the rapist is still following her moves and sends flowers on the anniversary of the rape. But other secrets are spilling out as well, threatening to destroy not only the young woman but others as well. So begins the weighty conversation of what should she do after all this time and with his powerful situation to consider as well.
This is a #metoo novel, and it is one that does look at the results of past actions, not only that of the assailant but that of the victim. It weighs in with some questions victims have. It involves the lives of those who were completely outside of the assault.
The books needs read. I've given enough information to set up the story, but the background is NOT the story. People often have hard decisions, and, yes, are we responsible for what we have done in the past.
In this 4th installment of the River Valley Series we are once again transported back to this wonderful small town in Oregon. With each book we continue to see the same characters, yet each time we are introduced to newcomers that become the main focus of the story. This time we are introduced to actress Genevieve Banks aka Gennie and her co-star Stefan Spencer who are to begin shooting a filming a movie right in River Valley. Gennie is one of Bella’s, Drake’s sister, best friend and the reason they are doing the film in River Valley. Little does anyone know the secret Gennie has been carrying with her since she was 15 years old, but will soon come to light when someone goes public saying some terrible things about this beloved actress. Once again the River Valley clan comes together to stand by someone that becomes one of their own.
This book is definitely one of the best in the series. The story takes you through heartbreak and love, loss and hope, and twists and turns that keep you turning the pages.
Tess Thompson is a masterful storyteller that keeps you involved with the characters and the story. Beautifully written, this story pulls at your heartstrings and keeps you riveted throughout. I can not recommend more highly that everyone should take timeout to read Tess Thompson’s Series’.
Bravo Tess, you have definitely become one of my absolute favorite authors of all time!

This is the fourth book in Ms Thompson's River Valley Series and it is also set in the town of River Valley. We met Gennie and Stefan Spencer during the third book of the series and this book deals with their story.
The River Valley series deals with "broken" people finding a love that heals them in the magical little town of River Valley. Riversnow doesn't steer away from this thread, but the "hurts" in both Gennie & Stefan's pasts (rape; blackmail; threats; abuse; murder) are very dark and somewhat uncomfortable to process. Ms Thompson handles the delicate subject matter very carefully and sensitively. Riversnow was a lovely read that didn't drag. It was also lovely meeting up with folk from the first three books and hearing what they were up to and how they were growing. I suppose you could read Riversnow as a stand alone book, but a lot of the background characters would be lost on you and would make a lot more sense if you read books 1 - 3 first. Holding thumbs for a number 5
Another great Tess Thompson read! This is the fourth book in the River Valley series and can be read as a stand alone. This is the story of Gennie Banks, Hollywood it girl, fortune, fan, success but no one knows the real Gennie. Gennie is filming a movie on location in River Valley where she’s teamed up with actor Stefan Spencer. Stefan wants a relationship, Gennie is emotionally closed off after a tragic event when she was 15. Gennie discovers that River Valley is more than a place , it is “her tribe”, it is filled with friends that are true, people who look out for one another, and genuinely care and love each other ! The world could do with more River Valley ! Thank you Tess Thompson for always being. the light at the tunnel !
Tess Thompson’s River Valley Series will make you wish you lived in this magical small town, where friends become family & help each other thru life’s dark moments and twists and turns. Riversnow is Gennie & Stefan’s Story, actors who meet & fall in love while filming a movie there. Those of us who have read the first three books will also enjoy catching up with “old friends”, but even if you start with this book you will have no trouble following the story. And then after you fall in love with this book as I did, you should go back & read the first three. Tess is definitely an author you want to put on your “must read” list
I forgot I had read this book a couple of years ago, but since I’m reading the whole series I reread it. I really love this group of friends and the new friends they add in each book. This is about famous actress Gennie, who was raped at 15, ended up pregnant, and gave the baby up for adoption. Thanks to the adoptive father, the story came out, and eventually Gennie met her daughter and together they decided to expose the rapist, who had threatened he would kill her family if she told. After some so-called accidents and betrayals, and a kidnapping, they finally take him down. That little Oregon town keeps growing and I love it.
Best book in the series so far ! Love all the River Valley Series books. If it was a real place to live I would pack up and move ! Wonderful characters ! Beautifully written as always. I couldn't put this book down, had to know what happened to Gennie ! Tess Thompson took a very serious topic and brought it to the forefront and everyone should read it ! Pick up this series, you will not be disappointed !! Enjoy !
A young 15 year old win s s school contest and her reward is to interview the junior senator from Wisconsin. You can tell what is coming when she is left.alone in his home office. It was tough to read, but it puts you inside the mind of a sexual abuse victim. It has a good ending but the journey was hard and kept me in suspense. Good job telling this story Tess!
The book is about a 15 year old girl that is violently raped by a man who is a political figure. He told her after that if she told anyone he would kill her, her family and anyone she loves. Four months later she finds out she is pregnant. She arranges for a sea l ed adoption but 20 years later all heck break loose. Read the book and find out what happens.
Predators have made the news in recent years and some are in jail; others get off scot free. Riversnow's heroine, Gennie, gets her life back when she pushes through the threats and trauma of having been sexually assaulted as a teen by a famous man and takes on his money and power. The story highlights that victory but also the irreplaceable power of trustworthy, caring friends. This is a beautifully written, tense novel but rings true in today's world.
Another winner from Tess Thompson! I always look forward to her books and this one did not disappoint.
She takes on a very difficult subject in this book. She continues to mature as an author and it shows, that she can deal with this story in such a fascinating way.
To say more is to give away the plot. No spoilers - read it for yourself. You'll be glad you did.
I really enjoy the stories Tess Thompson weaves, and this book was no exception. She is so gifted at painting word pictures. It's been a while since I read the earlier books in this series, but I plan to go back and get reacquainted with all the wonderful characters in River Valley. Moving on now to Book 5, wishing I could literally visit River Valley.
Keeps you on your toes, but brings a grouping of friends and family together to stand behind Gennie & Stephen. But also brings to light great long hidden abuse of power that people or I should say have over women. Tennis was raped and threatened at 15 and ended up giving up a child from that rape. I so enjoyed how this was written.
Great story but left a lot of loose ends. How many more women came forward? What happen to Rick Murphy? What happened to Trix? There should have another chapter before the epilogue. Felt like the writer was out of time so she just stuck in a syrupy ending.
A great addition to the River Valley Series. I was thrilled to see this new book was out. I read it in one sitting finding it was three o clock in the morning when I finished. Looking forward to Tess Patterson writing more good books to keep us reading.
Riversnow by Tess Thompson is the 4th book in the River Valley Series and it just keeps getting better!! Each book in this series is better than the last. I truly enjoy reading Tess Thompson. Her books are the type that once you start you can’t put down until the very end.
I enjoyed this book better than the previous one in this series, although I think Thompson could’ve added a little more to the storyline of Rick Murphy, like what happened to him after the police found him?
There isn't anything more that I can add to what has already ben posted. I loved the story and the characters and one being brave enough to do what she had to do. I will be reading of Tess Thompson's books.
Absolutely loved this book. The characters were wonderful. The plot was very exciting and full of twists and turns. I now want to read all the books in this series! I'm
Gennie's ability to rise above and even over all that she had to endure makes a tale that all girls, women and even men need to hear. I was reading for a romance and got so much more!
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. The plot and characters were well crafted and kept me interested all the way through. Just wish a little more care in proofing had been taken.
I enjoyed this book so much and didn't want it to end. There much sadne ss, mystery, happiness and love. The characters were well developed and the story just flowed. It's my first book from this author but I will be looking forward to reading more of them.
This is not your typical romance novel. Riversnow by Teas Thompson deals with an emotional journey for Gennie as she finds true love in River Valley. Her past, which includes a unwanted pregnancy as a teenager, holds her back but the magic of the town and the people she befriends sets her free.
