The installment on language assessment of the DLL-series edited by the Goethe-Institut is a surprisingly good introduction to the basics of the field which is often treated and presented dryly and way too theoretically. One good thing about this book are the practical examples and hypothetical assessment situations with which DaF-Lehrkräfte are usually confronted on an almost daily basis, in order to make them understand better purpose, impact, and proceedings of a more meaningful and fair evaluation of learners' progress during the acquisiton process of German. It was nice to find out that even more technical aspects were covered too in a way that made them easy to catch: how to calculate Trennschärfe, Testwert, and Schwierigkeitsgrad of a test item is explained step by step, as are the quality criteria of ALTE for the development of their exam items. Overall, DLL 7: Prüfen, Testen, Evaluieren is a very recomendable acquisition to your stem DaF-library if you're still getting a grip of the practical issues of language assessment, either German or any other language.
