This is a romantic suspense novel with a HEA and NO cliffhanger! Readers 18+ This is the second book in the Harper Sisters Trilogy, but each book can be read as a stand alone.
Growing up, Satin was an avid reader who wanted to be either an English teacher, librarian, or author. So, of course, she became a financial advisor.
Years later, she realized that life was short, and decided to follow her dream. Now, she’s published three books in her romantic suspense trilogy called The Harper Sisters.
Satin lives in Massachusetts and is married to the love of her life, a man who literally flew halfway around the world for her.
Other than writing, she loves reading, supporting fellow authors (especially self-published ones,) traveling, and photography. She’s also partial to a good whiskey every now and then.

This was my first read from Satin and I really enjoyed it. I found that once I started I struggled to put it down. There is definitely suspense and romance and I enjoyed watching both Alex and Liz become reacquainted and then eventually a couple. There was just the right amount of heat for this book’s genre. I am looking forward to reading book 1 in the series and then book 3 which I am hoping will be Fiona’s book and will be available soon. The spark between both Alex and Liz was instant from the start of the book and at times they had me laughing to myself. I am intrigued by Cynthia though so am hoping I get to read what her story is. Overall, this was a thoroughly enjoyable read and I would definitely recommend it.
It's a romance mixed with suspense, and it is one of those unexpected stories. Secrets are always lurking in small towns, but this story has a new spin on suspense. A connection between Alex and Liz, as they are coming together, despite the past childhood relationship. Kids really do grow up and become adults, but not everything can be forgotten. Fate or something throws them together and they have to come together to get out of it. It is well written and thrilling, with both predictable and unpredictable twists that come their way. I didn't read the first story, but this was one that could be read without reading the first. I may just go back and read the first one though.
Secret Need by Satin Russell is an amazing read. Liz, the main female character is not your typical female lead. Thank you for that. This is what makes it so refreshing. When a male from her past walks back into her life, things take a very interesting turn for Liz and Alex. Especially when they get caught in a web of deceit.
The drama, action, and suspense kept me turning the pages on this one. Satin Russell did an amazing job with the story. The dialogue flowed nicely as well as the dynamic between the characters. There wasn’t any continuity or timeline issues. But what I absolutely loved about the story was the relationship that Liz had with her sisters. They are a tight family unit, and the story world needs more of that.
The sizzle factor between Alex and Liz though was giving me life. I love stories where the characters have a backstory. I felt an instant connection with the characters. I became heavily invested in this book. I will definitely recommend that others read it.
I loved Secret Hunger, the first book in Satin Russell's Harper Sisters trilogy, and was really looking forward to Book 2. It did not disappoint!
Secret Need is focused on Liz, the middle Harper sister, a badass car mechanic who has trouble letting people breach her protective emotional walls. Enter Alex Marston, a contractor working on Liz's sister's restaurant who has recently returned to town to help out his terminally ill father. Alex was in Liz's high school class—he was the football hero and golden boy, while she was the flat-as-a-board grease monkey his friends made fun of. Now she's a successful businesswoman, but she hasn't forgotten the fact that he never intervened.
When Liz inadvertently stumbles onto illegal drug activity happening in her own shop, she and Alex are quickly thrown into a high-stakes, life-or-death situation. Unsure of where it is safe to turn, they go on the run while they try and figure out who is behind a major drug ring.
The thriller aspects of this story are gripping. The characters are multi-dimensional; we are able to sympathize with the criminal underlings as the author presents them in a very human light. The romance aspects of the story are hot hot HOT!
I read Secret Need in one sitting, and eagerly look forward to Book 3 in the series!
I loved Secret Need. After a crummy day I thought eating a large slice of chocolate cake and then I remember I had Secret Need waiting on my bookshelf. Having read Secret Hunger (vol. 1 of the Harper Sisters), I was primed for an intriguing mystery that would make me forget my crummy day. Secret Need did not disappoint! I was sucked into the world of the Harper Sisters and my desire for chocolate cake was forgotten (which was a very good thing as we didn't have any chocolate cake.) "Liz" is a complex character and reading her story was fun; the plot twists were unexpected. I really enjoyed Secret Need and I look forward to the third book about the Harper Sisters. Thank you, Satin!
I flew through the pages of Secret Need, and when I got to the last one, I only wished there were more of them! Loved Liz and Alex's story, and the tension throughout the book just sucked me in. There was always something going on that I had to keep reading to know more about - the relationships, the intrigue, the sizzling romance. Looking forward to reading more from Russell in the future.
I preceded the character of Olivia in the first book, as opposed to Liz. I understand that there are many ways to develop personalities. I thought the conflict was more interesting in this book than the first book I read. Overall, both books by this author kept me engaged and reading.
If you liked Russell's first book Secret Hunger, then you'll love her second book. Where the first novel's thriller storyline had a slow burn that culminated in an exciting climax scene, Secret Need's thriller storyline starts immediately and doesn't stop until the novel's very end. The romance storyline follows suit with the two love interests being forced (by proximity) to acknowledge their growing relationship. My only complaint with Russell's first novel was the pacing dragged occasionally; I can safely say all pacing issues were resolved in this second book. I highly recommend this book for any fans of the thriller and/or romance genres.
I really enjoyed the first book in this series, but I LOVED this book even more. It had a tight and fast moving suspense throughout. The chemistry was at a constant sizzle without being overwhelming or feeling out of place. A fantastic read and I'm looking forward to the book about Fiona. Also, I hope we get to see more of the MDEA agent in the future.
Love this series so far but I almost feel that it ended so suddenly. I love a Happily ever after and this book hints towards one, but doesn't tell it. But the story was great and the bad guys went to jail, so all in all, it was a good book and I definitely recommend it
Liz lives in a small town, she grew up in this small town. Liz was bullied throughout her life because she was different, she worked on cars with her dad. Her parents were killed when she was a teenager, her sisters and her dads best friend helped her stay out of foster care. Liz took over her fathers garage and made a success of it. Alex moves back home to help his father who is ill. Alex is doing work for one of her sisters in a restaurant she is getting ready to open. The sisters are having a small get together at there home and Alex is going. Little do the sisters know that Liz had a crush on him in high school but he ran with the crowd that tormentited her, although he was the one who tormeneted her, he never did anything to stop it. It gets tricky when there is a break in at Liz's garage and Alex shows up, they go on the run and the suspense starts. The story has twists and turns. Please read thr story to find out what happens next.... it is well worth it! I loved every minute of it, it was hard to put down.
This is the second book I have read by Satin Russell, and I admit, hands up, I'm a fan.
She creates realistic characters and provides an intriguing, well-constructed plot that keeps you engaged from page one. I love her strong female leads and the situations they are plunged into, which makes you keep turning the pages wanting to know what happens next. Her heroes have just the right amount of sexy broodiness that sucks you in, and she delivers an ending that wraps the story up neatly. What more could you want.
Was a good combination of romance ,Alex and Liz after years , from high school to adulthood. Of remembering the torment and attraction, to present feelings of attention. Of past friends and where life had taken them, of believing in them and how to help them. And ,of course suspense in the present. Great read, I enjoyed and look forward to the next book.
Some unnecessary emphasis and some formatting issues when italics are used (the font is forced on the italics so they don't match my selections), but overall a good solid read.
