I was told off as a child for making up stories—little did I know that one day I’d earn my living by writing them!

To the horror of my parents, I left school at sixteen and held a bewildering variety of jobs: I was a London DJ (in the now-trendy Primrose Hill), a decorator and a singer. After that I became a cook, a photographer and, eventually, a nurse. I waitressed in the south of France, drove an ambulance in Australia, saw lots of beautiful sights but could never settle down. Everywhere I went I felt like a square peg—until one day I started writing again and then everything just fell into place. I felt like Cinderella must have when the glass slipper fit!

Today, I have the best job in the world, writing passionate romances for Harlequin. I like writing stories which are sexy and fast-paced, yet packed full of emotion—stories that readers will identify with, laugh and cry along with.

My interests are many and varied—chocolate and music, fresh flowers and bubble baths, films, cooking and trying to keep my home from looking burglarized! Simple pleasures—you can’t beat them!

I live in Winchester, one of the most stunning cities in the world, but don’t take my word for it—come see for yourself! I regularly visit London and Paris. Oh, and I love hearing from my readers all over the world…so I think it’s over to you!

...My prayers have been answered,’ said Tomas emotionally. ‘For he flies to us like a bird of prey! El Cóndor!’

A second chance romance, served up by a ruthless, cynical H, with a heaping twist of revenge.

Sharon Kendrick delivers the passion, vengeance and angst in this tale about a H who's determined to get retribution from the one woman who'd broken his heart and coldly thrown his love back in his face.

This storyline bears a superficial resemblance to last month's Reunited by the Greek's Vows:

1. In both novels, we have a youthful, first love romance between a rich heroine and an impoverished H.

2. And both heroines were the ones who broke their respective H's hearts, by jilting them when parental pressure was applied.

Why then, have I rated this so highly while allocating a mere 2 stars to Andie Brock's novel ? Well, as any competent English teacher knows, it's all in the details. Two students can write creative writing essays on the same topic, but only one might actually fulfill the assignment's requirements and do so in an entertaining manner.

Sharon Kendrick is infamous for writing passionate, brutally emotional love stories and she doesn't pull the punches when she crafts her alpha males. Sometimes she might create a H who's a little too cruel and vindictive, but at other times, she hits a home run.

This novel was riveting. Unlike Reunited by the Greek's Vows, I wasn't bored at all and the author portrayed a heroine who was still likable, in possession of a working brain and most importantly, was sympathetic. The revenge trope isn't done that often in today's more politically correct HPlandia, so I'm always gleeful when one crops up.

Emily, the 26 year old heroine, had been in love with Alejandro when she'd been 18 and he was a 24 year old stable boy employed at her cruel stepfather's Argentinian estancia. Alejandro had loved her too; a fact that he himself admits, in a very early internal monologue, right after they're reunited:

Because he had loved her in a way he had never loved anyone else and he’d thought she loved him, too. But she hadn’t. She had been the only woman who had ever rejected him and she had done it in a cruel and dismissive manner which had emphasised his subservient status. He would never forget the way she had looked through him, as if he had been invisible. As if he were nothing.

This is the heroine, Emily:

And Emily Green had played him for a fool, hadn’t she? Stared at him with those big sapphire eyes. Tossed her fair hair like a feisty pony, so that it rippled down her back like a field of golden wheat. He’d been transfixed by her Englishness. By her pale beauty and the pert vigour of her young body. Long legs and slender arms and a pale bottom, which curved like the moon. She’d driven him mad with frustration and desire...

He'd have done anything for Emily, because he'd wanted to spend the rest of his life with her. Her manipulative, needy mother and her cunning, social climbing stepfather intervened to destroy the MC's relationship because it wasn't socially acceptable for the housekeeper's illegitimate son, to marry the ranch owner's stepdaughter.

This is the H, Alejandro:

Bittersweet memories. Of a man with a hard body and warm, green eyes. A man who had brought her alive with his lips and his fingers and a whole lot else besides. Who had made her feel stuff she’d thought herself incapable of feeling. When she’d walked away from Alejandro Sabato it had felt as if someone were ripping her heart from her chest and then crushing it.

She remembered him as the man who used to slowly trace the line of her lips with his fingertip before bending his head to kiss her. The man who had taught her the true meaning of love.
And she had thrown it all back in his face.

The heroine's pathetic mother had begged, on bended knees, for Emily to dump Alejandro. The wicked stepfather had thrown in worse threats of blackmail; promising to destroy her mother's lifestyle unless she renounced the H. The youthful heroine, who was already a little insecure about her relationship, weakened to their combined pressure and jilted the lovelorn H.

It was a merciless and cold jilting but it's difficult to hate Emily, because the author made it clear that, unlike Andie Brock's heroine, she was in an impossible situation. Her mother couldn't survive without the stepfather's funds and the teen heroine wasn't in a position to provide any alternative.

In order to make the H hate her and accept her decision, Emily told him some terrible lies:

1. That she was too good for him.

2. That she didn't love him.

3. That she was still young and intended to sleep with lots of other men in the future.

It makes the heroine seem disgustingly unsympathetic, doesn't it ?

And yet, this novel worked for me because the revenge trope was well executed. Revenge romances usually fail if the H's justification for vengeance is weak and/or based on circumstantial evidence or another character's hearsay. As seen from the above 3 points listed, there's nothing "circumstantial" about Alejandro's evidence and the words were delivered from Emily's own mouth.

The reader's aware that the heroine faked her cruelty, but the H's oblivious to that reality. This is what makes it such a deliciously angsty tale. On the one hand, I'm rooting for the likable heroine but on the other, I'm eagerly awaiting the culmination of the H's well deserved revenge. The tables have now turned and he's the retired Polo champion, turned powerful billionaire.

Alejandro devises a fake scenario to inveigle himself back into Emily's life. She's now an up and coming PR executive and he uses some convenient emotional blackmail to hire her as his newest contractual employee. He claims that his playboy reputation needs to be restored after a scorned pump and dump former penis polisher, wrote a slanderous tell all book about him.

Their relationship alters quickly after the heroine suggests that marriage, to a suitable candidate, might be the fastest way to repair his reputation. His vengeful plan: to marry the heroine, use her for sex until he's tired of her and then dump her blandly and carelessly, the way she'd jilted him.

The sex is awesome, as usual, in a Sharon K novel, but the heroine's always aware that he doesn't make love to her in the same old loving way he used to, when they were in love. He's also bitterly jealous, possessive and angry because he's consumed with torturous images of Emily and all the other lovers who'd ( supposedly ) replaced him 8 years ago:

Had she dressed up like this for other men? he thought, with a sharp surge of jealousy. Had they too been busy thinking about how much they’d like to slide their fingers beneath that scarlet hemline to caress her cool thighs, before travelling further upwards to find her melting wetness? A pulse throbbed at his temple.

In this respect, Alejandro's very much like the vintage alphas who are eaten up with jealousy when they're reunited with their heroines after a long time. He's falling in love again and responds to these feelings, by upping the verbal cruelty while pretending indifference and nonchalance.

Eventually the gig is up, after she learns about his cold-blooded plot to use her and then break her heart. She throws his ring in his face and dumps him - this time, she really means it ! I would've given this a full 5 stars if the very final section of the novel hadn't been concluded so hastily. Their reconciliation seemed rushed and his grovelling could've been improved.

The epilogue was quite good and I was happy that the heroine's beloved, elderly horse Joya was in fine health but I wished that their baby had already been born. Instead, we're told that the heroine's just discovered that she's pregnant. I'm very excited to read the author's next novel, because it focuses on the H's long lost half brother, Lucas.

Safety: No OW, no OM, no cheating. The heroine was celibate during their separation while the H wasn't. In view of the words she'd said to him when she'd dumped him, 8 years ago, it's realistic to accept that he wouldn't be celibate. After all, someone would have to be a masochist, to pine over a woman who'd told him ( the day after he'd taken her virginity ) that she intended to sleep around with lots of other men. And, this might just be something that appeals to me only, but I really appreciated the fact that the H had not been able/willing to perform oral sex on any other woman during their 8 year separation:

The memory of that had stayed stubbornly with him and the thought of laying his mouth so intimately against another woman had repulsed him.

My first book by Harlequin author Sharon Kendrick and wow how baffled i am!"Bought Bride for the Argentinian" is a riveting, angsty and sexy romance that delivers passion, revenge and a second chance of love that made me tingle all over!Sharon Kendrick knows how to write and the scene where the rich superstar tycoon Alejandro Sabato stepped out of a helicopter was so epic that it reminded me of a similar scene from the hindi soap opera "What should I call this love?" where one of my top favourite on-screen heroes got presented in the likes of Arnav Singh Raizada.Ohhh my beating heart!Like i said..it was EPIC!

After all these years Emily Green`s soul still shatters everytime she remember the moment she broke Alejandro`s heart. They were young passionate lovers, but circumstances forced Emily to break up with him.She had been a rich man`s stepdaughter while Alejandro was a stableboy for the mansion. This also reminds me of another book Again the Magic which is one of the best romantic historicals i have ever read!Alejandro have grown in the levels of power over the years and have made himself one of the richest and powerful men in the world. The agony of heartbreak still eats him inside and he wants revenge against the gold-digging manipulative woman who once held his heart.

I love the bittersweet taste of revenge-ahhh all the delicious angst it causes!Sharon Kendrick is also a expert when it comes to EXPLOSIVE CHEMISTRY..and whewww how the pages was filled with sexual tension between Alejandro and Emily!Daymm how he even succeeded in seducing me!I will definitely be reading more books by this author in the future since her love stories have that intensity i crave when i search for a good romance! That epiluge was so romantic and i found myself wanting more by the end!

Emily took a huge step and decided to revisit the ranch she grew on. Facing some sad memories of life on ranch and also to say goodbye to her beloved horse. She left the ranch years ago with a lot of hurt and regret. She grew up with a mother who was always searching for "love" and riches. Emily never really had the nurturing mother she longed for and her step father was unkind and cruel. But growing up on the ranch there was one saving grace for Emily and that was the ranch hand who took care of the horses, Alejandro. Growing up he became her best friend but as she matured that friendship turned into love. They became lovers, but that wasn't going to work with her mother or stepfather. So Emily made a decision, under extreme pressure, that shattered her heart as well as Alejandro's.

Emily returning to the ranch before it was sold was to say her last goodbyes and put to rest her love and regret of how things ended with Alejandro. If only she could turn back the clock, but to little too late. Or was it?? Alejandro show's up, successful ex polo extraordinaire and now successful business man. A man with a reputation of being quite the playboy.

Alejandro, has a plan and Emily is part of that plan. He was heartbroken when she dumped him and in a manner that shattered his heart and closed him off to all relationships. But it's payback time, he needs his reputation to be cleaned up a bit and Emily being a PR executive is just the person to assist him, as his fiancé. He'll take care of her horse and what she cares about most, but in return she will play the role he deems for her.

The romance between these two is filled with angst and a lot of past hurt. Alejandro has a lot of bitter and hurt feelings he never resolved about his break up with Emily. He's going to make sure she pays, but as he spends time with her he finds himself realizing there was a lot of good and wonderful times in their relationship. Emily is dealing with guilt and regret in her lies and the role she played in their breakup. She is also trying to resolve all the issues she has with her mother and her upbringing as well as her stepfather. So the tentacles for Emily with her issues deal with several different people and circumstances. They go through a messy and convoluted stretch at the beginning of their reacquaintance, but as they slowly peel back the layers and past they begin to realize that they still love each other and are willing to work through all their baggage and untruths.

This was an angst filled read. With a lot of blame to go around and more communication being the key to mending their hurt and broken hearts. I was frustrated in that if only they were more open and talked more it would have been a more satisfying read and romance (but again this is HP land so maybe not). The pacing was good and characterization was fairly well developed.

This was a delicious angsty, emotional, book on revenge that will go down as my personal favorite. Loved Alejandro & Emily. They had awesome chemistry. Alej was a typical ruthless alpha who was left badly hurt when the love of his life had cruelly ditched him and is looking for revenge whereas Emily was a sweet, caring, strong, independent heroine who always lived with regret for being cruel to Alej when breaking up with him and who never stopped loving him.

One could feel the deep love the two of them had for each other throughout the book be it in the flashbacks of the past or right through the anger, hurt and lies they kept telling one another to hide their real feelings. It was palpable.

Also, there was a lot of sensitive and tender moments in the book which I find missing in most romance books nowadays, where romance is mostly equated to sex. I'd stopped reading SK's book a few years ago for this same reason, but this book had a good balance of sex, tender emotions and angst.

My favorite scene was Emily seeing Alej fast asleep in his plane seat and unable to help herself kisses him on the forehead. Also, the scene where Alej declines the actress's invitation to spend the night with her and rushes to the hotel suite he's sharing with Emily hoping she hasn't gone to bed and the tenderness that overtakes him when he finds her fast asleep on the sofa and is unsure whether to wake her up or leave her there. Both scenes end up with them making love.

Now for the story...
Emily was twelve when her mother married a rich man and the two leave England to go live with him on his ranch in Argentina. Alej is six years older to her. He was the housekeeper's son who grew up on the ranch from the time he was three, but later on went to live at a polo-stable elsewhere when his extra-ordinary talent with horses was recognized and he was given an opportunity to be schooled for the sport. He'd meet Emily on his visits to the ranch to see his mother and taught her how to ride among other things.

Emily's step-father never wanted a step-daughter and so treated her very badly. The lonely girl found companionship with Alejandro and began to idolize him. However things changed when she turned seventeen and desire entered into their friendship and they both fell in love with each other.
Emily's step-father didn't like the son of a hired help socializing with his step-daughter even though Alej was going to be big polo star. He told Emily to end the affair or he'd divorce her mother. Her mother too, had gone on her knees & begged Emily to do as he said because she couldn't handle being divorced.

Young and scared and backed into a corner, Emily breaks off with Alej and to stop him from coming after her, she deliberately told him she only wanted him to teach her all about sex and that she was seeing other men in England, ripping her own heart as she walked away from him. She then moved to London and they never met again. Her step-father eventually divorced her mother, who never got over it and her over-dependence on tranquilizers finally led her to her death.

Eight years after Emily had left Argentina, she receives a letter from her step-father's lawyer to say he's dead and has named her as a beneficiary. A shocked Emily goes to Argentina and finds he'd bequeathed her with the horse she'd loved dearly. The aging horse was in a terrible condition and Emily was in a dilemma for even though she loved the horse she couldn't keep him as she lived in a small flat in London and didn't have much money to pay any stable to keep him.

While she was pondering what to do Alej lands up at the ranch in a helicopter telling her the old groom had called him to help her with the horse. Although, they hadn't seen each other for eight years, she'd been following his progress and knew he'd become a world-class polo player, but ended his career suddenly though no one knew why then went on to became a successful businessman and an international icon and heart throb. His reputation however took a little beating when a scorned ex of his --a super-model--wrote a nasty unauthorized biography on him making him out to be a serial philanderer.

Seeing each other after eight years they both realize that the chemistry between them is as strong as before. However, the ugliness of the past dangles over their heads. Alej was badly hurt for the cruel way she'd broke up with him making him feel she'd used him only for stud services and he was never going to forgive her for it. When she calls him Alej like she did before, he tells her that only his close friends and intimates call him that and that she should stick to Alejandro. Although, it pierces Emily's heart, she understands the reason behind it.

Alej then tells her he's planning to enter into politics and as she was into PR business he wanted her to change his bad boy billionaire image into a respectable member of polite society. Emily had recently started a small PR agency of her own in partnership with a friend she'd met at Uni.
Alej further tells her if she worked exclusively for him he'd give her beloved horse a home at his estancia. At first Emily declines his offer, but when he mentions a huge amount, she rethinks her decision.

With that amount she could help her fledgling business and also help her great aunt who had helped her a lot to take care of her mother when Emily had no money. The lady is now old and living off a very small pension. Emily thinks if she surreptitiously helps the lady from the money Alej was ready to pay her then she'd stopping worrying about her future and live life comfortably. Also, if she could single-handedly turn around Alejandro's bad boy image, it would bring in a whole stream of new contracts and catapult the company to next level.

Above all, she wanted to see whether proximity with Alej, would help her in dismantling him from the pedestal she'd given him in her head and heart and free her from the limbo she was living in. She'd stopped dating men because she always compared them to Alej and found them wanting, which is also why she never had sex with anyone. He remained her only lover. She didn't want life to pass her by in this manner. She wanted closure for her past.

Without telling Alej the real reasons, she accepts his offer which only angers him that she accepted only after he mentioned the amount to her. He thinks she's shallow and avaricious. It firms up his mind to take revenge for her past treatment of him. The only two women whom he loved --Emily and his mother-- had lied and betrayed him. His mother was dead, but Emily was alive. He'll have her back in his bed and this time he'd walk out.

Emily doesn't know about this plan of his and naively thinks that there wouldn't be any physical involvement. It however doesn't take her long to fall into his bed. Later, when she suggests to Alej to boost his image and help his political career he should get married or at least have a pretend marriage, he immediately tells her that she should be that temporary bride and goes on to stamp down all her protests and is helped by their uncontrollable lust and also Emily realizing she's still little in love with him and couldn't bear the idea of him marrying any other woman.

However, again not wanting to give him the upper hand by telling him the truth, she lets him think it's his money that swayed her into accepting his decision. But, later when she does tell him he was her only lover, he gets all the more angry because he'd heard so many lies from women he couldn't figure whether Emily lied before or was lying now. He tells her that she is only is temporary bride and nothing more.

But then, contrary to his words, he was doing sweet things like playing their song for the first dance at their wedding or gifting her with riding clothes and taking her riding, also confiding in her the truth he'd discovered about his parents, the reason for the scars on his back and why he ended his polo abruptly. Another tender scene where Emily hugs him empathizing with his pain and doesn't let go even when he tries to push her away.

The wedding was beautiful. After a honeymoon in Paris, Alej takes her to his estancia in Argentina where the two of them have happy and blissful days until Emily discovers the heartbreaking truth She leaves him and goes back to England until weeks later Alej comes to apologize and take her back. It wasn't a long groveling because by then both realized they couldn't do without each other. The epilogue was nice with them expecting a baby.

Alej, along with the truth about his parents, discovers he has a younger brother, Lucas, hero of The Argentinian's Baby of Scandal

Two billionaire friends of Alej make an appearance Salvatore di Luca and Marcus Helland, which tells me they'd be getting their own books. Salvatore also makes an appearance inThe Argentinian's Baby of Scandal

As I said, this book will go to my personal favorites and would recommend it to anyone who likes revenge, angsty reads.

A revenge-lite story.

Polo-playing hero had a one-night stand with the 17-year-old heroine. Then heroine is forced to break up with him by her evil stepfather (his mother's job as housekeeper and her mother's marriage are on the line.) In the end the heroine's lies did no good because the housekeeper lost her job, her mother got divorced, and now hero thinks all women are golddiggers and liars.

Hero sees his chance for revenge many years later. He will give heroine a job as his PR person in exchange for caring for her elderly horse. He lies and says he wants to go into politics and must clean up his playboy image. Heroine suggests he marry someone respectable, so he pushes for a marriage of convenience with her for a year (with sex on the side, of course).

Heroine thinks their romance has picked up where they left off, but then eventually discovers the hero's revenge theme. She leaves him and then suggests he find his lost brother and work on forgiving his past. Surprisingly, this does the trick. Hero tracks her down in England for an HEA.

Hero was pouty and cruel to the mystified heroine for much of the story, so I enjoyed that. It was kind of convoluted how the hero came to regret his revenge and to realize he loved the heroine, but it worked for the h. SK rarely has her heroes grovel, so I wasn't surprised at the ending.

If you love second chances with a revenge and marriage then this is the book for you! I am a sucker for books with this theme. Alejandro and Emily were childhood sweethearts. She was an heiress by marriage and he was the stable boy/rookie polo player. Their love bloomed unbeknownst to their family members. When they finally gave into passion they got caught and Emily was forced to walk away from her love. Alej was misled and assume Emily was a sophisticated bi&% and he channeled his hatred into becoming a Billionaire.

Eight years, later they met once again and Alej got his opportunity to exact his revenge. He manipulated the situation he hired her under false pretenses, manipulated her into a passionate downfall and married her with the intention to divorce when he had his satisfaction. It was cunning, ruthless and hateful. When Emily discovered his lies and deceit,it broke her heart. She immediately left him and moved on with her life. Alej realised his errors and grovelled his way back into her life.

I look forward to the reading 📚 the next story and the reunion of Lucas and Alejandro. The sex was highly overrated in these books. I just skip them and enjoy the real emotional part of the story

An exciting second chance romance well worth reading.

The main characters were a couple when they were younger. She was the snobby rich guy’s stepdaughter and he was the housekeeper’s son. When they were found out, her mum and stepfather forced her to end the relationship. So she told the H awful lies to end the relationship and stop him from pursuing her.

Her lies worked too well. Eight years later, they meet again and the H is still angry and hurt by the way she ended it with him. It made him a cold, hard hearted person and now he’s out for revenge.

Glad I read this one. It was really enjoyable.

I love a revenge plot and this latest book by Sharon Kendrick did not disappoint!
The H is a ruthless, cold hearted billionaire playboy who seeks out the girl who crushed him 8 years ago with her lies. She had a reason for those lies but he doesn't find out until the end.
I really adored the h, she never stopped loving the one and only man in her life and the backdrops of beautiful Argentina and Paris wonderfully enhance the plot.
The H and h rekindle their love and very near the end, they realise honesty , acceptance and forgiveness are the most powerful things in a true relationship. A well deserved HEA and a sneak peek at the next instalment in the series as we find out that Alej knows his brother's name is Loukas!

Bought Bride for the Argentinian was a good read and I enjoyed it. Alejandro and Emily needed to overcome some misunderstandings because of a lie to should him. Now Alejandro is out for revenge but in the end could he have gone too far. Emily said a little lie but she never forgot her first and only love. I thought that he was very hard on her and he wouldn’t listen to her but I understood him I don’t know if I would be able to trust a man after a lie. Their journey is going to have bumps on the road but in the end she leaves him and he will be have to come with terms that he is in love with Emily.

The story opens up with a sensitive scene with an aging horse. Very soon after, the hero arrives to save the horse, but his motives are like an iceberg, I only saw the tip of the conflict. His effect on Emily, the heroine, is rather telling. These romance waters are turbulent and run deep. What fun!

It’s stories like these that make me glad that they are told in the third person point of view. I can see that Alej and Emily are both hurting. I was curious as to what happened. You know, what tied them together in the beginning, and what could bond them now? How could they possibly find common ground with so much angst and past history in the way to have a future? This is a romance after all. And, Alej is the perfect alpha male with attitude so that gets in the way, too.

This is the typical ‘convenient marriage” plot with a twist. They used to want the real thing, badly. Then external forces overwhelmed Emily, and being so young, didn’t stand a chance against the force of more experienced, hardened people around her. I felt bad, at first. Then, I realized the crux of the plot is to have them fall in love now, as the people they’ve become with the baggage of their life’s experiences. Being more mature, more realistic and with a passion that has more of an impact, what kind of fireworks would come from their clash of wills? Bought Bride for the Argentinian is classic romantic brain candy.

The scenes between the two were spicy and the bedroom door, and wherever else it happened, was wide open. Alejandro’s seduction of Emily was blatant and the descriptions left nothing to the imagination. Fortunately, there’s a lot of emotional byplay and push/pull of their personalities to see the romance advance; to see the hero’s perception change, little by little, to see him open up just that teensy weensy bit, giving Emily hope things could be worked out.

The one element that is classic is the hero’s propensity to justify every devious thing he does as payback. His emotions are volatile and his desire for revenge is paramount – or so he thinks. Why would someone want to go to THOSE lengths if he despised a person? Why would he buy certain things for a person he wanted revenge against? His actions belied his words. I liked it when Emily pushed back. She stood up to him just as a great heroine should.

The happy ever after was fulfilled by the epilogue. Since the characters were written well, I cared for them. The message of forgiveness was sweet, poignant and very satisfying. I enjoyed reading Bought Bride for the Argentinian.
