Hidden Secrets is a Christmas story about Gilbert Tucker, a man who drank from a spring along with his family in 1793 as they were searching for a new homestead. Later, the family notices that something isn’t right. Several odd things happen. Elias, Gilbert’s brother, falls out of a tree, breaking his neck, but he stands up immediately afterwards, feeling perfectly fine. Pa saws off a finger, and it grows back. When Pa got run over by a wagon in town and got up as if nothing had happened, the other settlers come out to their homestead, wanting to drive them out. They shoot Ma, and she survives it. The family realizes that they can’t stay any longer. They go back the way they came and find the spring again. They realize that it was the spring that gave them eternal life. They also realize that they have to keep this a secret and protect others from the curse of immortality.
Hundreds of years later, Gilbert finds himself at school pretending to be a seventeen-year-old boy. He meets a shy girl who refuses his every attempt to be kind to her. When he follows her home, he sees that she lives with her abusive father. Wanting to save her, he kidnaps her and takes her to the homestead his family built by the spring. But she doesn’t want to be saved by him. She wants to go home to her father and help him get sober no matter the cost.
Can Gilbert persuade her to stay with them for an old-fashioned homestead Christmas? Maybe he can persuade her to marry him and stay forever?
Hidden Secrets is a spin off of the popular Christmas spanking romance - Hidden In The Woods, but it can be read as a stand-alone.
Great Christmas story. It was nice finding out what happened to Gilbert and learning about the other characters in this story. I enjoyed reading this book. Read thru the KU program.
