D.J. Doyle was raised by pot-smoking hippies and spent her days worshipping pagan deities in the HellFire Club and her nights watching horror movies and reading horror books. She now lives with her family in a treehouse, preying on unsuspecting travellers, and where she likes nothing better than coming up with ideas for new stories and plotting her next novel. Some of this might have been made up. To learn more about D.J. Doyle, her website can be found at http://djdoyleauthor.com and her official Facebook author page is https://www.facebook.com/DJDoyleAuthor/
I liked this one even better than part one. I just wish these were longer cuz the priests demons and the humor is so awesome I want more... Guess I'll go read the next one really liking this little series.
Father Jack is back! And he's hunting demons again. Just like the first of the Father Jack Chronicles 'Çhrist on a Bike', OMFG! is a light-hearted, fun glimpse into the world of an Irish Priest who does exorcisms and battles the metaphysical bad guys.
I'm a huge fan of DJ Doyle and hunted her down like a rabid dog after reading one of her more extreme shorts. These sweeter books reflect her humour, charm, and natural Irish lilt perfectly in my opinion. Not extreme, but pure comical 'soft horror' fun.
I urge you if you haven't read any of this lass's stuff, change that fast.
This was a short glimpse into the Father's life. Hunting demons once again. Just like 'Christ on a Bike' the banter is witty and fun. I love how the author can take something serious (well serious in the make believe manner, unless demons and portals actually exist. I've never seen one myself.), and make it funny. The main character is very likeable. It was just too short in my opinion. I wanted more. But I get it, the story was told and brevity wasn't a bad thing. It just made me want more. I wanted to read about him visiting his sister. Perhaps that's in another book. I need to look into that.
This is another great short story that follows father jack and his colleagues as they battle demons and close portals. I can’t wait for the next instalment.
A nice follower to Jesus on a bike, a story about Father Jack and his team of exorcist priests, who go around saving poor souls and protecting the world from nasty beasties like demigods and demons. A really enjoyable read, that seemed so long ago that I read it, I read it again with OMFG! Still laughed out loud in the same places, particularly the bit when in the middle of an exorcism of a young lad, the boys mother walks in on the priests at a really crucial point. Father Jack, the main character turns to the mother and says she should leave as this is no way to see her son like this. Then in that really flippant, off the cuff Irish way, she says to Jack "Sure Father, I used to be a midwife, this isn't anything unusual for me, really tickles me still. OMFG! Continues on, I won't spoil it, but basically Jack takes charge of the band of brothers(and fathers) after the original leader has to stand down because of illness. Then we follow the new exploits of Jack and his clerics, leading up to where Jack is given the simple task of saving the world in a shopping centre. Once again, like Jesus on a bike, very well written, very much keeping the interest throughout. A bit of a rant at the first chapter, in one paragraph, Jack is going to visit his sister in the looney bin(as he puts it) then the next he changes the subject. Ok, so it's a first person thing, and maybe it's an insight into the character that he is a bit erratic and irritated. I do feel that we should have seen the visit to the hospital, and a little more character building with the sister. After all, she was spoken about so much in the first book. It may have also put a bit more underlined emphasis on the passion with which Jack had taken up his post. Otherwise the makings of a good series, now I am gagging for more! When I read D. J. Doyle's first novel, Banshee, I loved it. I loved the crisp and clean writing that told the story of lore from my land. It was one that struck fear into me as a child and one that even today tugs on my nightmares occasionally. So after reading it (and loving it) I eagerly awaited the next book from this talented author. Boy was I in for a wild ride. Newgrange was the next big release from D. J. Doyle and it carried on with Irish lore giving us a gritty look at life back before civility blessed us and Christianity scourged us. In this, we met one of my all-time favorite characters...Fr. Jack. This priest was and is (in my mind) the star of any show. So you can imagine my surprise and sheer glee when I saw this amazingly gifted author dedicated two short stories to him and his crew (yes, he has one). First came CHRIST ON A BIKE, and then this little beauty OMFG! In these, we get our teeth into the character of the cussing, drinking, short-tempered and yet lovable, man in the collar.
OMFG! is the continuation of Jack's story. It gives us a little more of a link to his past, his reasons for doing what he does and his not so hidden agenda that he wears the collar to achieve. This is an awesome read for lovers of Irish lore, horror with humor and those who appreciate a great storyteller, of which D. J. Doyle is one.
I love Father Jack! The Irish priest never fails to surprise and delight me with his humor, sarcasm, wit, and penchant for trouble - usually in the form of demonic and evil forces. Leading his fellow priests in an eternal fight of good vs. evil, Father Jack encounters demonic possession, witches, and other supernatural entities. He's got a bad habit of foul language and dry humor - but oh, is it fun to read!! This next installment of cursing Irish priests who battle with bloody exorcisms and demon portals is both amusing and entertaining while also being true to the author's horror roots. An excellent short story!
Characters: 5/5 Plot: 5/5 Word Building: 4.5/5 Story Flow: 5/5
This is the second Father Jack escapade & this time we learn how he came to lead ‘The Other Realm’ exorcism team. Quick-witted, sarcastic & thinking on his feet, Jack is not your typical priest. He swears like a trooper, fires jibes at his colleagues & is an overall loveable rogue. The prose is playful & hilarious, as long as you don’t mind a few curse words, and I can’t watch to read the next in the series. Well done, D.J. Doyle, I even found myself reading with an Irish accent in my head, what a hoot!
A spin off from DJ Doyle's Newgrange and Christ In a Bike. OMFG funny and OMFG scary. A quintessential mix of Leather wearing, cursing Irish Priests who battle bloody exorcisms and demonic entities. An entertaining read, for those that aren't squeamish. Doyle Does It Again
Another short story in the Father Jack chronicles. This gives a backstory as to how Jack became the leader of his 'posse of priests' who travel around sending demons back from whence they came. It's a great, action-packed story and I'd like to read more from this author.
I’m quite a fan of Doyle’s work and thoroughly enjoyed the comedy-horror short Christ on a Bike! OMFG! is another winner, blending humour with some scary demons – a great short story.
I wish these were longer I get sucked right in and then it's over so fast. It follows a priest named Father Jack and his adventures with exorcisms and closing up Demon portals.
Was a fun quick read. I would really like to see a novel for Father Jack and his crew as I think these little stories could be made longer. Enjoyable read though.
