Amanda Clarke knows she's a witch. She unleashed unstoppable magic to save her friends and catch a murderer. But she only did it the one time. And now? Back to powerlessness. Her friends insist that all she needs is proper training. Sophie wakes her before dawn for meditation and workouts designed to channel magic. Brianna buries her under books, so many books. Amanda longs for a distraction. But when the woman who lives next door to Miss Zenobia Weekes' Charm School for Exceptional Young Ladies turns up dead, and the murder weapon dates back to Prohibition, she gets more of a distraction than she bargained for. But who in 1927 would want her neighbor dead in 2018? "Work Like a Charm", Book 2 in the Witches Three Cozy Mystery series. If you're a fan of Amanda M. Lee, N.M. Howell, or Amy Boyles, this mélange of magic and murder mystery is sure to charm you.
A good read. However a bit confusing too. The plot was a good one but could have been executed in a clearer manner. The characters are good but it would be nice to know what type of magic each girl holds. She has packed up her belongs and is now headed back to the school and her new found friends. Hoping that they can pull her magic out or at least let her learn how to. An uneasy feeling has been hovering over her but she has tried to ignore it. The girls tell her that the portal (that they are guarding) has been behaving badly in her absence. As she settles into training the uneasy feeling continues. Where is their nosy neighbour? Take a break in, a dead body, murder, time travel, a witch cut out of time, a whispering globe and a cold blooded murderer whilst throwing in a witch who is still learning her powers for a good read if albeit a confusing one.
In the on going story Amanda is still having trouble with her magic. She went home to pack up all her possessions and to permanently move to the School. On returning after a week she finds that her two friends have had trouble with the Portal in the back yard. Then they discover that a friend has been murdered by someone in time. Can the three witches discover the murderer and why this is happening?
The second book in the series begins not long after the first book. The three young witches, tasked with protecting the portal behind the house quickly become involved in another mysterious death. The murder weapon and time travel make for an interesting story. This book did not have the typos that marred the first one.
I really enjoyed this story, as the Witches Three learn more about their powers and their job, and we learn more about some of the other characters. I've already pre-ordered the next book.
Love the story behind this series. It's easy to immerse yourself into Miss Zenobias charm school for exceptional ladies and follow Amanda, Sophie and Brianna as they try to figure out what they are guarding and why
Another good book in the Witches Three series. I enjoy watching how Amanda is developing as a witch and how the other two are helping her as much as they are able.
Few small loopholes/plot points and editing issues - but the story is amazing, and I really like the characters. I like how it is all coming together, and the story lines that are developing! I'm hooked!
I liked this book better than the first one. There were some things towards the end that made me think, "what??", but overall, it was a fun witchy cozy mystery. I look forward to the next one in the series.
Enjoyed this second book in the series. Would like to see the characters develop a bit more. But interesting enough I want to read the next book in the series.
Short book at 150 pages of story with an interesting plot in the NOOK Book edition that drags you to the end. The heroines have unwitting help from "mere mortals". They need it to solve a murder set in motion 100 years earlier. A time tunnel that takes them back to 1927 when they find the beginning of the plan. I'll not reveal more to allow you the thrill of the ending.
