There is no way to rate this book. It was exactly what I expected from a self-published book on local cryptids. It’s the book equivalent of the shows the History Channel plays at 1am. So I would be hard pressed to actually recommend it. But I enjoyed reading it and learning local legends. Like - did you know that KY has the largest population of white-furred Bigfoots?
I don’t specifically believe in Bigfoot, or the Loveland Frogman, or the Harrington Lake Monster. But I do believe in the general idea that humans have a lot to learn and discover about the world we live in. Maybe the species that science hasn’t recognized yet aren’t exactly the ones in the book (or maybe they are) - but there is something out there left to discover, surely. And I enjoyed it in that spirit.
Wonderful read. Phenomenal inclusions to the various cryptids in Kentucky. Well-researched and accurately examined considering the topic. I loved reading the stories and history about each of these creatures. I also enjoyed the author’s commentary and theories surrounding them. I’m well versed in cryptozoology of the state and was excited to see a couple of things I had not yet heard about! I will definitely be adding this book to my personal library. While researching for my own book, I was surprised to learn that this is one of the only books solely on Kentucky cryptids. Well done, Ron!
It was a quick easy read. Even tho it was interesting it’s not something I would reread. Would I read books similar to this? Probably, because it is interesting to learn about the different creatures. I don’t really believe all those creatures in the book are real.
