Ritualistic Killings: An anthology of True Crime

Rate this book
A look at ritualistic murders that continue to confound investigators. This series is headlined by the murder of Arlis Perry, a newlywed wife of Stanford pre-med sophomore Bruce D. Perry had moved to the campus from Bismarck, North Dakota, just a few months. She would be found in the church with an icepick sticking out from the back of her head. Her killer has never been caught yet conjecture remains on who committed the grisly crime scene that was made to look like a Satanic ritual.

Ritualistic Killings: An anthology of True Crime Kindle Edition

by Tara Bascom

A disappointing entry into the realm of true crime books.
There are many issues for the various chapters, including lack of a style, giving the stories the feel of a ransom note. There are also a number of typos. This would not be so bad had those typos not changed the meaning of the sentence – for instance, 'of' becomes 'or'.
There are also instances where some of the writing is lifted directly from articles on the Murderpedia websites. In fact it was easy to identify them because the voice of narration changes. This is compounded by the use of secondary or even tertiary sources. The air of a rushed report for a high school English assignment. At times, the authors would use a first name only for a character in one paragraph, only to use a last name only. Readers will find themselves pages back and forth to understand who is being written about.
Not more to say except this was a frustrating read that took entirely too much time to read.

Not very detailed

These are more like reports if the highlight of events. Don't expect a lot of detail. Some information should be fact checked and spell checked. The writing is very monotone and sterile. It's hard to stay interested.
