A biography of Bob Dylan, told through the prism of his 37 studio albums, from 1962 to 2017. As well as 37 short essays on each record, there is also an afterword that attempts to rank all of Dylan’s albums from best to worst.
There is nothing really new here for a Dylan fan but it was a pleasant enough read on a Sunday morning. Obviously Bob Dylan’s albums are all about personal choice. Everyone knows that ‘Highway 61 Revisited’ ‘Blonde on Blonde’ and ‘Blood on the Tracks’ are classics and deserve the authors A+ rating but personally I love ‘Street Legal’ and ‘Shot of Love’ so would disagree with the author on a few. If it inspires anybody to pick up an album and listen then it will be a job well done.
Rather insulting book with very few insights of note. Marking each album as a grade and not fully discussing the bootleg series, were two major problems.
