"Sizzling hot, charming, witty, and heartfelt." - Elizabeth Williams, GoodReads, 5 stars. Boy billionaire Desmond De La Rosa has been missing for six months. His fiancée, aspiring musician Mia Kealoha, has not seen or heard from him since. She yearns for his return, but has moved on with her life and now works at one of Honolulu’s most prestigious banks. Mia is half hope, half heartache, until one day her workplace is attacked—by pirates! And Desmond is among them. The one that got away came back… …and he’s as sexy as ever. Why did Desmond leave, and can Mia rescue him in time? Can she resist his erotic charms or will they consume her? And after everything that’s happened, will their love still prevail? Ablaze is a sensual blend of romantic comedy and romantic suspense, starring a brilliant BBW and a protective alpha male. The stakes are high and the tension is thick, and the ending is a delight.
In Hawaii, Mia Kealoha is working as an accountant at a bank when it’s robbed by pirates. But the man with a sword to her throat seems familiar, and then his words reveal he’s the college sweetheart/fiancé who deserted her.
The story is told via Mia’s first person POV, and it has plenty of potential, but it really needs to be fleshed out as a full story rather than a short story. The hero and heroine just weren’t developed enough to feel their chemistry. I didn’t dislike them; I just couldn’t get a fully dimensional picture of them. From what I could gather of Desmond he seemed like he would have been a devoted, sweet guy. He studied World Lit and Women's History so that won points with me. ;-) I think if the pieces of their backstory that were just sentences thrown into the present action was fleshed out into full chapters it would greatly benefit the romantic and sexual element. As it is, there’s nothing elaborating on how their foray into some mild BSDM came about nor does the reader get to experience them falling for each other. Also for there are some heavier issues (Mia’s adenomyosis, OCD, workplace sexual harassment) that also weren’t woven seamlessly into the story or given the development that could have made the story fuller. Finally, the reason behind Desmond’s situation with the pirates was a little too outlandish for me.

All in all, the bones for an interesting romantic suspense-adventure are here, but the execution is hindered by the short length and rushed plot. There’s a lot here to work with and expand on.

So intriguing plot, steamy, dynamic, and needed the continuation!
I got this book as ARC copy. I really enjoyed this book and the characters. It had a full dynamic tempo and lovely MCs. I enjoy when the mail character is so sexy and wise as the heroine, and the story full of adventures plus a steamy mood.
The sad thing is this story is so short, I would like to read more ;) My rate is 4.7 stars :)
Thank you so much for this book, ms Moon! I would like to read the sequel - a big novel ;)
Ablaze by Violet Moon is what I would describe as an erotic romance with a social conscience. It has bodice-ripper written all over it, what with star-crossed lovers (a musician and a billionaire), forbidden love, actual (modern day) pirates, grand romantic gestures, and more, but do not let that fool you. Beneath all the trappings of the romance genre, there are some clever, empowering moments, and smoking hot erotic interludes.
It was the character of Mia Kealoha who drew me to the story - described in the blurb as a brilliant BBW - and I immediately fell in love with her. She is bold, brave, confident and curvy. I admired her as much as I enjoyed her, and was rooting for her happiness from the start. Seriously, when her boss made a flippant, sexist remark about needing makeup, I already wanted to be there for her, and we had only just met a page before.
The story does strain disbelief at times, but that is okay because Mia and Desmond are so wonderful together, and Madison is that one friend we all wish we had. If it felt at all rushed, that is only because I wanted to get to know them all better. I especially wanted to know more about Mia's OCD, which manifests as particularly violent thoughts, but I do love that Moon did not just offer some flippant validation of her condition to serve the plot.
At times funny, sexy, romantic, and suspenseful, this was a different sort of romance from what I am accustomed to, but a welcome one.
