With violence erupting on the streets of Harlem and his cousin possessed by a demonic force, Cullen Sangerye reaches out for help from an estranged family member. Meanwhile, in Mississippi, Ford Sangerye fights for his life at the gateway to Hell.
I love the story that Bitter Root is telling here. It’s dark and deceptive, while also trying to tie everything into the complex past of this country. I’m sure there are more meaning and hidden points that I’m completely missing, but I’ve loved what I’ve seen and picked up on. I’d honestly love to know even more about the main characters. I feel like we have three distinct groups moving around each other here. Two have the potential to be working together, while the third is obviously working against them. I can’t wait to see what happens when all three meet up. I have a feeling it’ll be explosive.
I really like Sanford Greene's art on this series. It's expressive and reflects the almost manic pace of unfolding action. It's early yet, and there is a heck of a lot going on with a complex narrative and multiple players making unlikely alliances.
